hey guys welcome to Pistons Talk podcast post game show I had my mic muted I don’t know how many podcasts I’ve done and I’m still muting my m Mike uh welcome to the show you guys we’re going to recap this Detroit Pistons vers Memphis Grizzlies game a lot to get into uh this was a this was a game that I honestly thought that um we had a chance to win but obviously that was not the final outcome but if you are new here what we do is we break down the quarters I take some notes go over some key points of the game and after that we open up the show to you guys that are watching live on YouTube right now but let me get into the quarters so I thought the first quarter we came out great we came out with a lot of energy Memphis obviously wasn’t hitting their shots in the first quarter um and we looked like a team that was going to play fast we were going to push the pace play out and transition but um that wasn’t really sustainable and you kind of saw that um little side note Tobias Harris did not play tonight and that start Thompson started in his place uh Tobias is stealing with a hip injury um I guess but good to see AAR get that start out there but the what I thought was good in the first quarter is we got out to an 11-point lead but what I really paid attention to is once we got out to that lead our shot selection I thought was really poor I thought we were making some three-point shots but we were kind of falling in love with the three and we stopped moving the ball there was no motion um and you gave Memphis an opportunity to get back into the game and I I think a key point of why they got back into the game was Marcus Smart and just the way he took over this game and the way he dictated uh how he was going to play tonight against the Detroit Pistons but they do end the first quarter with a one-point lead Believe It or Not 35-34 transitioning into the second quarter Memphis just had all the momentum coming out of um the first quarter they were moving the ball Marcus Smart looked like Steph Curry out there tonight I think he made six threes um and a lot of the role players that you probably wouldn’t expect it just went absolute crazy against the Detroit Pistons I honestly think another reason why we did lose this game was just the lack of taking care of the basketball again just to turnovers Memphis was just the more active team in my personal opinion uh they looked like they wanted it more they were crashing the offensive glass they were moving the ball side to side and they they just came out um as a team that looks like a little bit more hungry um just lack of communication too on defense like if Isaiah Stewart was going to to attempt to block a shot uh you had about four or five Pistons just standing there not boxing out looking trying to get a rebound and you know Memphis was getting those loose balls but they go in the halftime giving up 71 points to Memphis Detroit only scored 53 going into the third quarter coming out of a halftime just really bad offensive possessions to the point where excuse me uh JB bicker staff ripped out the starters and they did not come back into the game outside of assar Thompson around the six and a half minute Mark so you saw some two-way guys you saw some bench guys that usually don’t get a whole lot of burn like Paul Reed out there uh JB was just kind of fed up with the effort tonight you could honestly see it on his face uh it it just seemed like the Pistons got a little bit too confident in the first quarter and never really fully recovered uh after Memphis defense was just swarming their ball handlers like nothing against Marc assassa but I’ve told you guys he’s okay if you want to bring the ball up the court you know maybe couple possessions a game but he he’s not really a lead point guard that you want facilitating your offense that’s not really part of this game um they they just did a really good job of just getting the ball out of his hands even Jay iy struggled tonight but they end the third quarter 104 to 77 and I I really didn’t write down anything in the fourth because I knew the game was over um I think JB bicker staff knew they have to play the Pacers on Friday and then they have to play the 76ers on Saturday uh so he just gave some time to guys at the end of the bench that usually don’t get playing time but yeah tonight’s effort I I just thought from a defensive standpoint there to many possessions where we were just standing around um there were possessions where we just didn’t move the ball we settled for shots just this whole game I think it’s actually worse than the New York Knicks game earlier this year because you got out to a lead and you played good basketball for maybe a good six minutes and after that it was just absolutely terrible um but Pistons still lose this game 131 to 111 they do play the Indiana Pacers on Friday it’s an inseason Tournament game no word of Kate Cunningham or Tobias Harris is going to be back for that game but we’re going to have to wait and see we’ll probably get an indication toor if they’ll be good to go to play against the Indiana Pacers in Indiana for that inseason tournament game but uh I would probably chalk off this loss up there with the Knicks game I think it’s actually worse that’s probably the worst basketball game that I’ve watched this season um and that’s saying a whole lot we’re 20 games in um that in the Knicks game I think were probably the worst but um that’s just my over overall opinion um I much would have rather lost this game getting blown out by 20 rather than like have a little bit of a lead in the first and you let it go and you kind of just let Memphis do what they did tonight but we’re going to get into some comments and questions for you guys that are watching live on YouTube right now and appreciate you guys tapping on in after this tough Pistons loss but we’re going to get into some of these uh questions and comments we going to go to Johnny uh first he did dro the first comment in this show and he said if this game shows us anything it was is we desperately need to find a backup point guard before the season this year’s even ends it was uh that was rough SAS on the bench SAS on the bench had the most assist okay had a really difficult time raing this I don’t know why my bad um I agree I know a lot of you guys actually had commented about like how we need a backup point guard and I agree um I don’t really know what the market is right now for backup guards um I think if you do get a backup guard it’s probably going to be in the trade market um I don’t really know if the Pistons are willing to send anything worth value to get a backup guard uh maybe someone becomes available I told you guys December 15th I think is a really big date to pay attention to uh for players that signed contracts this summer they’ll be uh able to get traded legally so um maybe we can just kind of hold on out until around that December 15th headline I don’t really know what Tran l in the front office long-term plan is um for the backup point guard position but obviously they tried to fill it they tried going to get tyus Jones that didn’t happen they tried to get Patrick Beverly that didn’t happen looks like Patrick Beverly might be coming back over to the United States I don’t know if they want to go down that Avenue again but uh to your point Johnny yeah tonight really showed how valuable Kate Cunningham is and how much you do need a backup point guard on this roster nothing against Marcus Asser I thought he did a really good job tonight in terms of just you know finding his own shot if you wanted to kind of take just an individual performance for Marcus Asser I thought he had a good individual game but from a team aspect you’re 100% right uh this organization needs to look to add a backup point guard so you don’t have to you know put Marcus sastra in positions like he did tonight but uh give a shout out to Sasser I mean he did his best out there it’s not really his natural position anyways Bayan left a comment Dennis Schroeder please I know we we had talked about Dennis schroer last week um if you guys don’t know um what I’m talking about Brooklyn Nets had made it known that they with willing to take calls on everyone on the roster um as expected for a rebuilding team like the Brooklyn Mets now what would it take to get at Denis schroer I’m not really entirely sure I’m sure they would probably want some kind of you know draft Capital compensation uh to me I think Schroeder is kind of under the radar type of guard you could possibly get but I’m sure Brooklyn’s going to have a lot of suitors for a player uh like him he’s 31 still a really good player still has a lot of you know miles left in the NBA in my personal opinion but don’t really know what a Dennis rer would cost to Detroit Pistons I’m sure draft picks um and probably a young Prospect for the Brooklyn Nets to uh you know Come Away with in a trade but I don’t really know what the Pistons would be willing to give up to you know L Denis schroer but he’s on my wish list at the Pistons see want to go get a veteran backup point guard Johnny no one stepped up tonight either SAS had the most attempts with 13 Off the Bench yeah I mean it it was such a weird game to watch because if you watch the game for the like the first six minutes you thought this was going to be a a game where the Pistons just go out um and dominate this game and that just did not happen like Memphis woke up by like the last like three four minutes in the first quarter and they never took their foot off the gas for the entire game I mean you look at the box score some some guys that you probably never heard of just went absolutely crazy against the Detroit Pistons and just I want to give them credit the way they move the ball side to side I think it was so beautiful to watch as like just a basketball fan not a piston fan obviously a piston fan I was absolutely miserable watching this game tonight but as a basketball fan watching Memphis set up their offense moving the ball side to side um I thought it was like really enjoyable to watch as a basketball fan but yeah the the effort tonight just was not there I’m sure JB bicker staff is going to let let his guys know that um let them enjoy their Thanksgiving um tomorrow but man like that was just a really really ugly game um to watch uh if you were a Detroit Piston fan Kate needs to get back on the floor yeah he does I don’t I don’t know how long he’s going to be out with that joint sprain um just my opinion I don’t think he plays this week I could be wrong there we’ll probably know by Thursday evening if he’s going to play in the the Friday game but um it would be nice to see Kate Cunningham back in this game or not in this game but um just you know finish out games this week uh you know Pistons are what8 and 12 in the first 20 games I mean that’s progress from last year anyways but um we’re not really going to take moral victories talking about this team because I think this team has proven that they are more than capable of wi back basketball games but the effort tonight was really bad um you guys had mentioned it earlier this game really signifies signifies that you need to get another lead guard Handler um out there but I mean th this game was in my opinion I I think the next game and this game were the two games in the first 20 that were probably the ugliest basketball that I’ve seen this year um but overall if you just kind of take a 30,000 foot view in the first 20 games you had two stinkers out of 20 so the consistency the effort is a little bit better but tonight’s effort was just absolutely terrible um there’s not really too many comments or questions you guys I don’t want to take up too much of your time because Thanksgiving is tomorrow um we’ll probably do one or two more questions and then I’m just going to wrap this podcast gu up I want to keep it really short um I’m sure you guys want to you know spend time with your family and that listen to me talk about the Detroit Pistons uh getting blown out by 20 uh tonight um better than last year had to watch Knox as a starter uh it’s from Curtis Kevin Knox Pistons Legend um I don’t even know if he’s in the NBA right now I don’t I haven’t looked it up but yeah if you think about it Kevin Knox was her best like offensive Wing player and we’re going down memory lane from last season you had like Isaiah livers who just forgot how to shoot the basketball um assar Thompson was a rookie yeah last year was last year was rough if you guys want to like go down that rabit all but yeah man Uh Kevin Knox and not one but two Detroit Pistons trades got his James wisman um one year and then got a Simone fako who s had a pretty good game tonight um it was nice to see him you know hit some open three-point shots but yeah shout out to um Kevin KN Pistons Legend do one more comment from Johnny I’ll let him have the uh last comment um for this podcast we’ll wrap it up Jaden iy had seven turnovers and one assists I guess he isn’t ready to be an elite point guard I wouldn’t say that I would just say it was better defense by Memphis than better offense by Jaden Ivy um Memphis does a very good job of guarding you on the perimeter um and I think Jade iy just struggled to figure that out I think there were times where the ball was just in his hands too much he didn’t really look to distribute the basketball tonight I honestly think that um Jaden ivy can still be a a pretty good point guard he’s just you know he has to share the backourt with Kate and Kate usually has a majority of you know the ball handling duties but you have to tip your cap to memphis’s defense and how they attack J Navy defensively um jadeen Ivy just kind of looked frustrated tonight um and I think JB saw that that’s why he took him out of the game in the third quarter he didn’t want him to uh just go so out of control where he loses confidence which I think was a a good decision good coaching decision by him to just empty out his bench and let guys um towards the end of the bench that you to don’t get the play play tonight but going to wrap this podcast up you guys again your Detroit Pistons just get absolutely obliterated by the Memphis Grizzlies of a final score of 131 111 Happy Thanksgiving you guys go Lions hope they beat the Bears the Bears I’ll talk to you guys on Friday after the Detroit Pistons play the Indiana Pacers immediately after the game take care I’ll talk to you guys soon peace
