good morning DJ and PK it’s 9975 the Zone welcome in on a Wednesday morning I know the holiday is not till tomorrow but we’ve also been doing this long enough to know the freeways are going to be pretty open this morning so if you’re up listening to this this early thank you you are hardcore and I’m sorry you don’t control your own schedule and get yourself so you don’t have to work this morning because uh that sucks but guess what we don’t control our schedule we’ll be here working so let’s just start talking sport shall we and let’s start with Utah Hockey Club they go on the road they get a win in overtime they win in Montreal 3 to2 Montreal last place in the Atlantic division and it was an excellent fight with about six minutes left in the third period there’s some serious bad blood and I don’t know where it comes from I talked to Adrien Denny who does the best of the postgame show he doesn’t know either he thinks it just organically happened during the game but uh sergachev with the ref pushing him up against the boards and three different Montreal players come over and taking a swing at him while he’s restrained by the ref that’s uh chicken bleep and then serach Chev gets one arm free and Bluffs a punch and the guy flinches and serach Chev looks at him like I’m a tough guy and you’re a Pansy you just flinched you loser I I wish they played more than twice a year because that was entertaining and when they got the goal and won the game it was yeah they were happy because they won but there was also a certain bleep These Guys these bleepers you you can see them talking to each other when they’re celebrating they look that happy they look mad I I wish they were like the Jazz and the Spurs and they played four times in six weeks all right let’s go now or five weeks let’s go to Adrien Denny for the best of the hockey of the Utah Hockey Club postgame show DJ and PK I promised you I’d return on Wednesday morning to recap a Utah Hockey Club Tuesday night win in Montreal and here we are they win 32 in overtime to wrap up their trip by taking two of the final three over a set of four games in six nights Utah back home to host Edmonton Friday night here inside Delta Center for hockey fights cancer well it was a first period where youah found themselves short-handed in the first minute killed that off and went on to outshoot Montreal 14 to5 in the first period drawing three straight power plays but we’d be scoreless going to the first intermission and then Utah had come out in the second period and we get our team leading 10th goal of the Year from Dylan Gunther five seconds after an early second period power play expired and now sergachev side of the net Gunther pass across rebound loose and save by Mono with the pass penalty time over Gunther a one timer he scores Dylan guns their lasers a onetime high into the top right corner of the net and Utah is on the board first it’s not a power playay goal but it is Dylan Gunther’s 10th of the season and it gives Utah a one ZIP Advantage 6 and 1/2 minutes into the second period but as we saw on Tuesday night in Montreal no lead would be safe 1 minute and 42 seconds later the Canadians Got The Equalizer and they take a 2-1 lead early in the third 46 seconds into the final frame Alex new hook a loose Puck out in front knocked home his Fifth and the Canadians had their first lead of the night but as I said no lead was safe and 3 minutes and 33 seconds later Logan fed Jack McBain on a two onone and we were back tied in Montreal we’re four minutes into to period number three Montreal enters the offensive zone Kirby dock fires from distance and that was easily Shrugged off by Vela now Utah wants to run a two-on-one with and McBain across McBain shoots and he scores Jack mcbaine has goals in three straight games and this one ties the game at two it was a game tied for all but 5 minutes and 15 seconds in regulation Utah killed a late penalty and we would go to overtime 27 seconds away from the Utah hockey club’s first ever shootout M sergachev would get the bus warming up to head to the airport 40 seconds to go in overtime sergachev right back out there with scht and Barrett Hatton Hatton carries the puck down the wing Utah in the offensive zone he hits a streaking schaltz schaltz moving in feeds it across and they score male sergachev wins it in overtime for Utah two points to end the road trip and sergachev gets his sixth of the year after the setup from schaltz serach chev’s third goal in six games as Utah wins a big one goal contest they outshot 29-13 13 shots allowed in a game the fewest Allowed by the Utah Hockey Club in a game this year as that young line of Jack McBain Logan and Dylan Gunther stayed hot 24y old Jack McBain gets his third goal in three games to tie it in the third his six goal in the last nine games 21-year-old Dylan Gunther gets his third goal in the last three with three assists he’s got six points and two multiple point games in that stretch and Logan adding in a assist after he had back-to-back multile point games in Pittsburgh and Toronto over the weekend the 20-year-old has one goal four assist Five Points in his last three games so nice win for Utah heading home for two of their next three home on Friday with Edmonton they’ll be in Vegas Saturday and host Dallas on Monday head coach Andre turny returning to his home province of Quebec earning his 100th NHL Victory on Tuesday night let’s hear from him post post game after the victory what does this game Define your team as after something like that well there’s two way to look at it I think U half class fmt and a full uh I think we played really good you know it’s tough to believe we went in in OT uh I think we played solid defensively think our goal made key stop at Key moment uh I think our power play were moving the park really really well I thought we stayed out of the box for most part um the only one we took was to defend scoring chance which which is okay um I I like a lot of stuff I like our resilient I like the fact we stay with it uh we kept attacking we we kept putting pressure on them so that’s uh that’s a big win we talk about managing emotions a lot in terms of you know this game and not getting too high or too low what did you see or what do you look for when when a a game goes the way it does night you know the the score right away at the start of the the third that could have gone either way we could have start Force the play turn the puck over and do those kind of thing but no we we uh stay with it and uh we didn’t generate as much offense in the third obviously but uh at the same time it’s a road game hand of the road trip for us four game and six nights we just wanted to make sure we didn’t shoot oursel in the foot and by giving an non-man rush or a turn over or something like that so I think the boys did a really good job to have a good balance of managing to pu keep playing offense but playing smart hockey I’m sure it’s good to give goal support to carava Mala especially after this road trip that’s that’s unre he he’s playing well but we he didn’t get spoiled from the our offense so far but you know at the end of the day we won two out of four on that road trip the other two game were one shot away so we’re coming how does this game fit in the building blocks as you continue to improve you know 1% better every day yeah I think the way we we play um generate enough offense we played good defense like I said I won’t repeat everything I said but special team and everything I think we’re we’re heading in the right direction we have a tough stretch heading up first we’ll have time to rest but then we have a we have a few uh few really good uh opponent to to face the next week in Minon and Dallas and Vegas so it’ll be a big week and male sergachev with that big walk off in the OT caught up with Sarah marafield after the victory how big is this one for your team especially to go back home with it’s great I mean uh obviously we strive for the best and uh you know we didn’t obviously want to get more points than wins on the road than games on the road but this one uh you know is a confidence boost how did you allow your you know the emotions of of the third period not to get too low and in order to finish the game on top I mean we gave up a goal what like First two minutes and into the Third and then came back like I didn’t see guys down on themselves or on our team and we just kept on fighting and fighting and uh you know got rewarded in games like this what do you learn about yourself especially now that we’re a quarter of the way through the season that we’re not giving up you know we uh we stay in the fight and we uh we can win does it taste even better to score the winning goal here in Montreal with everything that was probably said on the ice tonight I mean yeah you know it showed in my emotions after uh but you know it’s just one of those scrums where you know everybody punching everybody and uh you know I just uh I lost my gool a little bit after I scored but uh you know it’s emotions you were seeing this morning that the team is playing better results might not be there but you’re getting there is this one of those game where cuz it’s not a flashy game it’s not high scoring but at least you guys kept your full and exactly made it work yeah we we don’t have to score six every time to uh win the game you know we can help out our goalies a little bit and uh give up two maybe one and still win the game and uh you know and we showed it tonight and we just got to keep it going and obviously it’s it’s going to be it’s not going to be pretty sometimes you know you have to go to the net and take shots and you know get elbowed in the face but you have to get through it and I feel like our guys are doing that right now I don’t have the exact figure but like you help them to pretty much about 15 13 shots on goal what’s like you know what do you think you guys did in order to live at that uh I mean we kind of stayed inside you know didn’t let them penetrate and uh you know their team they hold on the puck so it’s us but it’s them too you know they hold on the puck they don’t waste shots you know they’re looking for kind of like good opportunities to shoot so it’s you know it’s on both of us is that something you noticed is that something that was talking yeah I mean we talked about it yeah they got patient guys with in there you know good forwards that are not going to waste shots but yeah that’s what we PR Scout a little bit Sarah also track down 20-year-old defenseman Maverick laroo playing in just his 15th NHL game on Tuesday in Montreal and his first at the Bell Center he grew up just 30 minutes away from downtown Montreal all right let’s start with the personal emotions how does finishing a game here in Montreal feel uh it feels pretty good that’s for sure especially having a win uh that’s what I told you before the game we needed a win to finish to that trip but always winning is always feels good as far as what you guys saw out there tonight you guys you know figured out by the end you didn’t get the emotions too low how did you guys finish this one and not allow that to happen like you said I feel like we stay calmed all game especially in overtime uh finally we have we had some success in overtime and and having sery scored here I think that was definitely a special moment for him and how does it feel to you know give some goal support to carala who’s been so solid on this road trip yeah he’s been playing so good for us he stepped up really good really well uh so having him play that well now and having him have a win definitely feel we needed to do that for him and going 500 on the road trip before you go home how how does that what does that do for the room yeah we always want to win as much as we can so Neely being 500 is always good for the team another great start from Carell Vela he allowed just seven goals on the entire trip one in Boston Thursday as Utah lost one- nothing one on Saturday in Pittsburgh as Utah won 61 three in Toronto on Sunday as Utah lost 3-2 and just two on Tuesday night in Montreal as Utah won it by a count of 32 in overtime so good trip for Utah four games in six nights and getting the split winning two of their final three DJ and PK looking forward to Friday with Edmonton Conor McDavid coming to town with the Oilers their first ever visit it’s hockey fights cancer as well Utah hockey club.com for ticket information and more have a Happy Thanksgiving and we will talk to you coming up next week here from Delta Center DJ andp K when we come back Utah Hockey Club is in Montreal Jazz at home against the Spurs we’ll have more on that game and the injury next good morning it’s DJ and PK proudly presented by our title sponsor Black Desert Resort Utah’s Premier Golf Resort time for the best of the Jazz postgame show the Jazz lose to the Spurs they lose three out of four in the season series they won’t see San Antonio again this season it was a close game but so many turnovers so many points off the 21 turnovers led to 33 points for the Spurs way too many and that’s why the Jazz lose the game uh and also they lost Lowry marinin for how long don’t know fourth quarter uh when by Yama knee to knee it was with the inside of Low’s knee it kind of bent out so you wonder about maybe an MCL or carless damage hopefully it was just the KNE to KNE and it hurt it was late in the fourth quarter so he wasn’t coming back he wasn’t out that long um but is there damage he’ll be out long you don’t know now hopefully we’ll find out more later today uh Jazz play again tonight in Denver let’s get to the best of the postgame show with Jake your Jazz recap here on DJ and PK 975 the KSL Sports Zone Jake Scott with you the Jazz fall last night to the Spurs 128 to 115 big game for wemi 34 points in the win for San Antonio on 13 of 23 shooting six of 14 uh from three the Jazz uh they were led by Keon Jord who had 26 points on 9 of 16 shooting six of 12 from 320 a piece from Colin ston and John Collins in fact John Collins with another double double in the lost 20 and 13 and then 16 points from Bryce sensah coming in off the bench but uh jazz outscored in the fourth quarter 32-22 coming up just short to San Antonio let’s get to the postgame sound and start things off with ja head coach will hardy there’s good stuff in the game I really do think that ultimately tonight like we beat ourselves um it’s a three-point game going into the fourth quarter with some ugly play that’s where you want to be close game at home going into the fourth we gave up eight offensive rebounds in the fourth quarter alone and another night where we have you know 20 plus turnovers it’s just hard to win um the math is against you in those moments and so I think the key for our team continues to be you know focusing on the details focusing on the little things focusing on the task at hand what’s next and not the things that have happened before um you know I do think that the team is playing really hard I think the competitiveness is there and that’s a great Foundation but we all have to stay focused on the task at hand um I feel like there’s moments where we get in a Groove and things start going well and we sort of abandon some of the things that are the reason why it’s going well and we kind of start playing a little bit too much one-on-one um the ball starts to stick a little bit when what’s gotten Us in that flow and what’s gotten certain guys going is the ball moving um you know we’re built to play as a team and that’s always going to be the message message to the to the guys but you know I think that they fought hard tonight but I think that ultimately you know we were Our Own Worst Enemy um especially when it comes to the rebounding and the turnovers with the turnovers maybe not just specifically tonight but throughout the season probably easy to like explain way like it’s going to happen with young players that probably doesn’t include like John and Lowry who have had a number of turnovers too M have you seen like any Trends with them or things that lead up to turnover well I mean the the biggest concern is that we have so many live ball turnovers um we have way too many turnovers dribbling in a crowd we have way too many turnovers getting stripped oneon-one [Music] um and then we have too many you know kind of pass and catch turnovers it’s not passing turnovers where I threw the ball on the stands or somebody made a great play and shot the Gap and got a steal it’s relatively simple passes that are just off Target and we mishandle it um you know we’ve had a couple turnovers the last couple of games where you’re throwing me the ball and I’m looking that way it’s like there’s just we’re a little bit off off-kilter as a group at times um so there’s youth in that there’s continuity in that um but it’s it’s everybody’s responsibility to take care of the ball um it it’s hard because I I I wish we wish that it was like one category like hey we are really struggling in when we throw the ball to the five men and pick and roll we’re having way too many turnovers but it’s not it’s we get stripped three times one-on-one we dribble into a crowd four times we drib off our foot once okay we’ll wipe that one away two moving screens uh the you know it’s it’s you know appetizer sampler of turnovers um so it it’s been it’s been brought up it’ll continue to be brought up again I never fult the guy’s intent like nobody wants to make a turnover but um you know we’ve got to do again the little things the details you know setting your man up when you’re going to get a catch if you’re supposed to catch it at the elbow we need to be strong catch the ball with two hands the guys that have the ball set your man up pass fake then throw you know there’s all those little things that add up but um you know I don’t think that those things are a long-term issue those are habits that can be built when it come when it comes to the re offensive rebounding they had on that four do you feel like it was more weird bounces or were you guys in wrong position there were a couple that were a weird bounce but there were also way too many where we weren’t covering up the free throw line area um that’s an emphasis I would assume for every NBA team with the amount of jump shots that are being taken um and we just didn’t come up with those balls um I haven’t watched them all on film obviously my angle on some of them is it’s tough to say but for the most part I would say you know generally we had too many people under the basket um we didn’t have you know those two guys around the free throw line like we needed two things on low you know if it’s just a contusion or is there a structural component uh as of now it’s a contusion and then Bryce gets his first chance to play in a while um what did you see from him what did you like from him what are you looking for him for from him moving forward yeah I I Bryce is going to get a lot of opportunity right now um I like Bryce’s instincts on the offensive side of the ball I think the work that he has done with his feet to speed up his release is allowing his good shooting to really show itself what I want to see from Bryce or is is two things number one executing our team defense um and really focusing on that end of the floor I don’t mean this in like a an arrogant way with Bryce Bryce can score in his sleep like that’s not what he needs to be thinking about he needs to be focused on the defensive details and then on the offensive side it’s continuing to play a reads based game um I think that’s how he got himself going was he made really good reads and then the one sort of loud play that didn’t look good was when he broke it off and tried to play one-on-one it’s not that Bryce can’t score one-on-one he’s plenty capable but I think when he stays within the flow of the group his skill set shows his IQ shows um because those are real strengths of Bryce’s like he can see he understands the game he sees his teammates he’s a good decisionmaker he’s a good passer you know his shooting is the stuff that we all go oo and a about but he’s a good passer he’s a good decision maker so um I I think that Bryce has put a lot of really hard work in um it’s good to see him have a game like tonight but like with all the young guys there’s another game tomorrow and this is an every night bus business and so it’s about trying to build some consistency I don’t expect it to be what did he end up with I don’t expect it to be 16 points every time he goes out and plays 26 minutes but I do expect him to continue to hammer on the details especially on the defensive side of the ball that’s Jazz head coach will hardy let’s move on to the players here is Colin seon well Colin it looked like at least in the first half strongly in this game you guys had a lot of communication on both at the court defensively and stuen what did you think from that um honestly I feel like the first half we communicated a lot a lot better than the second half but I would say just I think they have maybe like nine more uh shot attempts than us and maybe like um a lot of points on offensive rebounds so like at the end of the day you’re not going to win the game like that so um even just the little things of boxing out um it’s is huge helping out on helping The Bigs cuz um Walker and John they got a hard job so just helping out in bigs trying to rebound and just mix it up what did you see from Keon’s performance today I mean it looks like he has had a lot of poise just on the court too what have what have you seen from his growth I would say just continue to play with confidence continue to play with confidence and belief at the end of the day um we all are behind you so that’s why I try to tell them each and every day like you miss One Shot Two Shots it’s not the end of the world we’re going to continue to push you continue to ride for you so just continue to go um and have that confidence that you’re going to make the next one then the next one after that that is Colin ston 20 points last night for Colin let’s now hear from price sense I think you know first and foremost I want to give you know all glory to God you know I’m in constant conversation with him throughout the game and you know he guides me through uh situations that I see but you know my mentality is just um you know com in the game and you know if there’s an open look take it um cuz you know this is what that’s what you know this team kind of needs it’s just a catch and shoot guy um that’s what they stressed to me so you know I just try to come in and do my best that you know as soon as I see a pocket Let It Go and um you know just trus in my work will mentioned like he’s not worried about your scoring at all he was like Bry can scor to sleep you know he doesn’t have to worry about that part of the game what are you seeing defensively and how’s your game kind of evolved there yeah I think you know it’s different from game to game um obviously because of personnel and uh you know the team we’re playing but you know when it when you really boil it down this effort so I’m just making sure I’m giving maximum effort and you know just carrying myself into the right spots um you know so I’m not playing from behind um so you know just continue to work on that and you know more reps I get I think the more natural it’ll be um but you know I think I made a a big step from last year obviously it still got a long way to go but um I think you know I’m trending in the right direction Cody was sent down to the g- League this week and that happened with you as well and you know ultimately got back up at the end of the year but what did that experience with the Stars do for you in in your game that may happen for well yeah um you know I texted him and you know just let him know you know what I went through um and it’s not a negative thing at all I I think you know I took it as a a challenge and you know I challenged him to do the same thing um you know I had a lot of fun in the G League to be honest uh just getting my feet under me um and you know just adapting to the pace of the NBA obviously it’s different it’s a different league but um you know I think it’ll be good for him just because you know it’s a big confidence booster you know if you take it the right way um you know you get to stay out on the floor for a long time get a lot of reps uh so you know I just you know basically gave him a few pointers on you know what you know the mentality that I went into it with um you know cuz I want him to succeed he’s a he’s a good kid and I think you know he he can be a great player so um just got to trust the process was he pretty receptive to what you said yeah for sure yeah he’s real coachable um like I said he’s a great kid I’m only a year older than him I’m calling him a kid but uh no he’s a great person so um you know I think great things will happen for him was it difficult for you to not look at it as a negative thing um you know I think initially it was kind of a shock well not a shock but you know it was kind of like dang but um you know I think it’s a super common thing you know for first round players and rookies um you know I think my year there was like uh like 22 or 25 out of the 30 players were in the G league for a little bit so um you know it’s very common um you know I think it’s just you know the way you look at it um you know I think I look I saw it as a challenge to get better and you know build my confidence up and you know I think if you use it the right way obviously they they’ve got a a lot of credibility and players that come out and you know do big things that’s Bryce SBA 16 points on six of 11 shooting last night from Bryce uh but the Jazz come up shorting at San Antonio 128 to 115 next broadcast coming your way tonight the Jazz take on Nica yic and the Nuggets tip off will be at 7 o’clock pregame coverage begins at six when we come back college football and the college football playoffs with Brett McMurphy that’s next good morning DJ and PKS 975 The Zone the college football rankings came out last night there are no big 12 teams in the top 15 as expected given the fact the League’s beating itself up and everybody has two losses and given where everybody was going into the weekend and nobody was moving up well ASU moved up but they were so far down so they’re at number 16 Clemson and Alabama on the outside looking in but they are the next two teams waiting for somebody to stumble so now how many teams do these conferences deserve how much power does the SEC really have in this uh nothing directly but what about indirectly PK and I with Brett McMurphy right here on the Zone Brett good morning good morning guys how you doing good that was a chaotic Saturday of college football there were upsets there were teams that had uh playoff hopes dashed are you liking the way that seems to be the play the new playoff format seems to be impacting the regular season yeah I mean it’s great I mean it’s you know um I think you mentioned Major League Baseball a second ago I think college football during the 10 years of the 14 playoff was similar to Major League Baseball and that after the first month of the season the the number of contenders to get to the playoff have been reduced to basically you know five or six teams now you’ve got you know literally you know 18 or 20 teams that have legitimate shots to get into that 12 team field I think the not really the challenge but the frustrating thing for everyone involved in everyone involved is there’s no clearcut you know manual or Playbook on what constitutes how you get selected to this other than winning the conference and by that I mean you know again it all boils down to this same as the 14 te playoff it’s a beauty contest and what you and I think may be the most attractive 12 teams uh the committee members may think it’s something else and it’s not that we’re wrong or they’re right or they’re right and we’re wrong it’s just their opinion and that’s what’s you know gets everyone so infuriated when everyone’s comparing well that’s a bad loss well they don’t have any top 25 wins well their strength is scheduled you know yada yada yada and we’re just sitting there waiting to see okay what are these people’s opinions going to be um you know that that second Sunday in December and that’s what we got to live with the immediate reputation of the Big 12 I think is at stake and where I’m going with this is this first round buy and right now you see ymark the commissioner of the Big 12 out there petitioning basically running a political campaign to make sure that the Big 12 gets the buy and not Boise State and it’s going to be a hotly contested battle and we won’t know until we go to the polls and I think it’s a significant blow to the Big 12 if their winner in the Big 12 title game does not get the buy and the argument well Boise you their big uh calling card is the loss to Oregon that was only by three points and you can argue Oregon was just you know breaking into quarterback I think Idaho only had a 10-point loss the week before the week after whatever it was and then last week Wyoming they got a four-point win against a 2-9 Wyoming team ASU beat Wyoming by 41 BYU beat him by 20 so you got all this going on how important is it for the big 12 to get that big to get that first round by for its team that wins it next week because I think it’s a significant blow to the rep if they don’t get it yeah I agree um you know I do think I do think that um I do think ultimately the Big 12 champ you know again unless there’s you know if it’s one of the the four that seem the most likely went out you know and there’s not just total chaos within the Big 12 I do think they will climb over um Boise State and you referenced the the Wyoming you know comparative scores with um you know the other Big 12 League members and you look at Boise’s overall record and you know only one loss but they only have three wins against teams with winning records and if they you know they beat UNLV that’ll be four uh in in the title game so they’ve got two two of their four wins are against the same team um so I if you look at Boise State in the rankings they have basically I think they’ve peaked because they they started at 12 they dropped to 13 and then they were 12 last week so I think they’re at the the peak of where they’re not I don’t think they’re going to get low any higher than than 12 um but I do see you know you’ve got teams in the Big 12 that are moving all around them um you know Colorado climbed from 20 to to 17 excuse me to 16 obviously BYU was was you know number six until the first loss um you know Arizona state has come out of nowhere it’ll be fascinating to see where they are this week um I think that will be key you’ve got Iowa state that ranked so you’ve got the big 12 teams playing ranked opponent so that I think that will help them even more and you know look we have seen again that’s why I I caution people don’t get so worked up on these early rankings because they are absolutely meaningless and a perfect example was last week uh or actually two weeks ago the committee had Miami above Alabama and then the following week Alabama jumped in front of Miami why did that happen well Miami didn’t play that week and Alabama beat Mercer so the committee decided based on that win over Mercer that now Alabama’s better than Miami or is it more likely that they thought Alabama was the better team before and they just screwed up and put Miami ahead of them I’m not arguing whether Alabama’s better or worse than Miami I’m just saying this is how the committee works and I think sometimes they see their mistakes and they try to correct it the following week I think you’ll see the big 12 teams outside the top 12 but I think clustered in there where if they do beat each other I do think they jump Boise State and heck there’s a there’s a possibility tan could make a strong move and even jump Boise State because Tain you know has a much better resume if you will but they haven’t had the publicity they haven’t had the narrative and um you know they can end with with A ranked win over Army also right that shift with Alabama some people see you know just a a course correction a mistake was made other people see the evil hand of the SEC at work and there was a story about them wanting four guaranteed bids going forward and we know uh Davos Sweeny just came out and said it’s the big 10 SEC Invitational as he lobbies to get his two loss team in how how much do you think the SEC can put their hand on the scales and crank their PR machine and and force one extra team in that’s going to make the rest of the country uh you know gag well again it it’s they don’t control the 13 people on the committee but they do you know they do have a lot of influence and you know I’ve done the mock selections and I’ve gone through in from a past season you look at all the data and you you rank the different teams and so forth and so on um but I mean I mean it’s human nature that if you’re sitting there comparing um you know Alabama we say Alabama versus Boise State I don’t think those two will be compared against each other because one’s a conference GNA be a conference champ but just it’s human nature to take into all of your thoughts and history of Alabama in Boise State and maybe give the edge to what you what you know is a known commodity and that’s Alabama is that fair probably not but that’s human nature and that how that’s how it works but you know be clear how the committee ends up selecting the the 12 team playoff and who is in it if the SEC feels like that they got screwed because look to be very honest last year Georgia got screwed like Georgia was the number one rated team in the country but because they lost in the SEC title game their only loss they dropped completely out of the top four the SEC was not happy about that now Alabama got in their place but still um you know obviously Georgia showed how good they were against a depleted Florida State team if the SEC feels like they get screwed in this format then when again we haven’t determined what the the new playoff system is going to look like starting in 2026 there’s a very real possibility they could escalate the point where the SEC decides you know what we feel like we can do our own playoffs we can you know if if we want to partner with the big 10 we’ll do it and they’ll take they’ll take their ball and they’ll go home and they’ll just go off to the side and they’ll do their own thing um ultimately they could get up to to 20 teams the Big 10 can get to 20 or 24 and then you’ve got you know somewhere between 40 and 48 teams which arguably would be the the biggest brands in in college football and have their own playoff they don’t need and look I’m an Oklahoma State guy they don’t need the Big 12 to be part of their playoff they don’t need the ACC they certainly don’t need the group five so again I I don’t think they’re threatening that but I think that could be a real consequence if they only get three teams in and they feel like that they weren’t treated fairly and I know the flip side to all that but also they’re thinking why should we beat our brains out and play these conference G made for TV games Texas and Georgia Etc um when we’re getting penalized for it where teams like Indiana can play you know one top 25 team have no top 25 wins they’re in a playoff Penn State has no top 25 wins they only have one loss they’re in the playoff so I don’t know if I answered your question or wasted your time but that’s that’s I don’t think they’re they’re specifically going to the SEC just sent me a you know a bottle of bottle of wine I’m going to vote for an SEC team but certainly they’re they’re reading everything thing they’re seeing everything online they they’re hearing stuff whether they want to admit it or not will that influence them we’ll have to find out the flip side of that you know with the the the big uh non-conference games that you mentioned you look at last week and this is annual the big the SEC schedules included Louisiana Tech wford UTEP Massachusetts so in a sense they you can argue that they are doing their own thing because these other conferences have have to play nine conference games and a conference game particularly November can be a huge deal we saw the outrageous situation and I was there in Tempe with BYU and all that uh storm in the field blah blah blah you know I’m sure you’re well aware of all that yeah yeah and and so the SEC is only playing eight and they schedule these games and you always know it’s the next to last week of the season because they’re playing these dogs and Herb Street and the likes the big Power shakers Movers complain about it but yet nothing has ever done about it can we get some type of uh uh uniformity to have some consistency so the field will never be level I I don’t think there’s a true definition of the word fair but at least maybe more fair well so I’ve I asked you know several SEC ads um in the past few years about you know because the big debate is where the SEC go from eight conference games to nine conference games um you know TV plays a big part of that surprise surprise money plays an even bigger part of that but also they basically the message to me was look if it ain’t broke don’t fix it I mean they’ve won you know I don’t know not 12 of the last 15 national titles playing only eight conference games so why why should they go to nine because the Big 10 plays nine or the Big 12 plays nine um that that doesn’t impact them at all they’re supposed to do what’s best for the SEC and look I’m believe me I’m the last person that’s in the FDC but what incentive is it for them to go to nine well the biggest incentive is if they get more money well the ESPN wouldn’t give more money so they stayed at eight could they eventually go to nine yes when you talk about you know you want everything to be the same if you’re the if you’re the SEC should you be the same as the Big 12 or the ACC and certainly I’m not even including the group five what you know you have deter you have established you have won a dozen national championships in the last 15 years so why should you change to be like that you could argue why shouldn’t other leagues change to be like you again I’m just being double I got you I got and you and and the schedule you bring up and everybody brings this up yeah I understand it oh they’re you know November you know Alabama’s playing Slippery Rock and Geor just playing you or whatever well okay let’s what’s the difference between an SEC team playing that schedule in November and in September you’ve got BYU to playing Southern Illinois and Southern Utah in Ohio State playing auran Everybody Plays a tomato can it’s just where you put them on the schedule the SEC has historically put those in November before their biggest annual rivalry game to give them a break in the schedule to give them almost like an extra off week it’s actually pretty smart um so I I agree that maybe they should play the same number of conference games but again there’s really no incentive for them to add another additional conference game especially now if they’re only going to get three playoff teams in and now you want them to play a ninth conference game you’re giving half of the league another loss and league play and we’ve already seen what what’s happened this year when they’re playing you know more Marquee games within the conference because of TV so again I know I’m coming off like Mr SEC but that’s I’m trying to give you basically what they’re looking at it and how they look at it um me you make valid points but that’s why we’re never going to have a conference commissioner because you’re not going to put somebody that’s overall ahead of everything in college football to make everything the same because you’re basically telling the SEC okay this guy’s going to be your boss now you’re telling Tony PTI the Big 10 this guy’s going to be your boss that ain’t happening guys Greg sanki answers to the SEC presidents petiti answers to the Big 10 presidents they’re not going to have somebody over them that tells them okay you’ve got to play nine or 10 Conference games because these other two quote power leagues are doing that if I’m Your Mark then I go to seven conference games uh if you could find if there was value TV wise why not I mean Alabama opened with Western Kentucky and then is playing Mercer so it’s not like that first game that they’re they that tomato can was right there in the Western Kentucky in the first week of the Season August 31st everybody does I could we can go through everybody’s everybody everybody’s scheduling philosophy every Power conference school there are a few exceptions West Virginia’s one they’re crazy they play like 10 10 or 11 power five conference school so I know we don’t have power five anymore but it’s basically you play one non-confidence power five you play one um it depending on if you have nine or eight or nine games you play one or two group five and you would play one FCS to get the four non-conference games you have three non-conference games and you go one one power five one group five one uh one FCS everybody does that everybody there there are a few exceptions but basically that’s what everybody I’m look Miami played Florida ANM Ball State you know that’s their non-conference schedule they played Florida so they that’s that’s how that’s how everyone does it um there are some an exception so um it’s it’s easy to slam on the SEC they they’re an easy ptic especially when they talk about how great the the conference is and we’ve kind of buried the lead I I don’t think the conference is that good this year I think it’s really balanced unlike past years they do not have a great team and I love chaos I want to see Texas annb Texas because I don’t think 10 and two Texas deserves to be in the play off they’ll have as many top 25 wins as you got you and I have and that’s zero and what’s their Marquee win they’ll have two wins over I mentioned Boise has three wins against teams over 500 Texas has two Vanderbilt and Colorado State now is that a is that a playoff team I don’t know and that’s the problem getting back to what I said earlier because you don’t any top 25 wins on your schedule or top 25 opponents on your schedule does it mean you can’t be one of the 12 best teams I I I don’t know it’s it’s an endless argument and that’s why this makes it so fascinating frustrating for everybody a lot of the a lot of the great points that you guys brought up yep when we come back what is trending the headlines are next
