see we got to do and could have done this year but got to make sure uh you know it’s not in other people’s hands and um you know keep ourselves uh kind of focused on uh on that next year um you know just knowing that the process uh doesn’t always end up how you how you how you think it is how you think it’s gonna so um had our banquet tonight uh with our guys you know um haven’t had a lot of like one-on-one talks and things like that but um certainly they share the same disappointment uh but you know um also um you know looking forward to uh what you know lies ahead with our Bowl opportunity and obviously hoping that was going to be more than one game but uh we got one more game together and uh going to make the most of it whether it’s uh this season the 2024 team or you know uh just uh building on it and uh preparing for the future and being better because of the opportunities we get here in the next couple weeks all right thank you coach we’ll go ahead and take some questions uh Charlie why don’t you go ahead and start us off just uh go ahead and unmute yourself yeah hey coach um you mentioned how you haven’t had one-on-one conversations with the players but have you been able to talk to the leaders on your team and they maybe kind of relayed their message or your message to the rest of the team uh a few yeah there are few I mean it’s been a busy day we went from first uh kind of um understanding what the the situation was going to be as far as was not being in to um talking to a few of the guys still not even knowing what our bowl game was and then the bowl game you know announcement and then really right into our banquet and to just finish that up here about 45 minutes or so ago so um again I think uh just around our program um you know I feel like the the culture is in a good place the mindset of guys uh um you know they they’ve taken a lot of pride in in what we’ve gone through and what we did this year uh whether it’s just the course we stayed on and to get the way they stuck together um but also uh you know the resume ain’t perfect but uh there’s a lot of big moments uh in the season and big wins you know that um we know we uh we had this year so again a lot of there there are leaders uh and those leaders expressed uh nothing but positive things as far as moving forward whether it’s guys that are you know kind of on the back end of their career just guys that uh that are you know going to be important for us moving forward um you know same roles or even bigger roles and so um you know I’m sure there’ll be some some discussions and things like that um there always is I would expect that uh you know whether you you you’re playing the last game in January or um you know we just finished a week ago you know there’s discussions just guys trying to understand you know the the role and um doesn’t doesn’t mean it’s bad you know know uh means that uh you know you’re just that communication’s there that’s how you build trust and again I think uh our players uh feel good that they can come talk to us and you know we encourage that go to KD wendam with Bama Central uh obviously Michigan is a team that this Alabama team is familiar with guys that played them last year you played them last year just kind of this matchup um is there maybe a little bit of the Revenge factor for the guys that played for you at Washington and then these guys that played Michigan last year yeah I mean there’s so many different pieces to this uh I get that and and appreciate the question for sure um but I you know I think this again we’ve made it always about this team uh that’s when we’ve been at our best is when we really focus on just what it means to this program this team um we can go back to the iron bow it wasn’t about anything external uh it was about this group and uh that’s what we will certainly keep it too uh you know when it comes to getting ready for you know Michigan and the bowl game let’s go to Nick Kelly al.com hey kayin uh I realized that you still have the bowl games one more game but um when you when you look at this season and preparing for next season how do you think you’ll address um maybe improving on consistency and the the inconsistency issues you guys had at times in certain games yeah I think um I think think there’s different reasons for it throughout the course of the year uh it might you know and different position groups might have been hit with different things uh that affected them throughout you know that week um you know it might have been the matchups be and and some of those things that were greater challenges it might have been the flow of the game other things just some a lot of things you know you control and that’s what we got to focus on that’s what we always focus on um is those that we can control the think we can’t control or the the the the breaks that don’t go your way um you know we just got to make sure that we’re stronger because of what we went through um I think having a having an off seon where there’s some consistency you know uh and a longer period of time to uh be able to just um you know do what I would normally do in an off season uh whether it’s you know the the details uh you know that you’d be starting in the middle of January or the end of January where you know you know we pretty much hired our whole staff probably the middle of February and you know trying to just get them to learn the offense learn the defensive scheme so you know the the time frame and the buildup um you know the ability now after one year to you know uh just grow the relationships which builds trust uh which leads to Greater confidence I mean it’s just all part of the process and you know we always want to jump from you know and we look at oh there’s Talent here there’s Talent there um there’s a process to this and we want to skip steps um and you feel like in a lot of places you know you can and I think we did in some areas but there’s some areas too that’s just um as agonizing as is sometimes you just uh got to go through those tough times to really um know how it can help you in the long run so you know uh I always kind of learned from a from a a good friend of mine and and great coach uh you know you always kind of look at and know why is this happening you know to me sometimes you got to look at like why is this happening for me and that’s what I shared with the team all season long um I think that really helped them understand that okay you know we got to learn from everything we go through and make me better because of it okay next let’s go to Colin gay with tus Lua news hey Kaylin and kind of jumping off of what uh Charlie asked but after the Oklahoma game you obviously you know we’re preaching kind of commitment and then kind of a culture of you know opt outs and and and early you know portal entries draft entries is that a message that you continue to push um today like when talking about a bowl game in a cfp world is that something that you continue to kind of preach and push um after the Oklahoma game we were preaching that or yeah yeah you were you were talking about kind of just the emphasizing commitment through whatever was for the rest of your yeah commit I mean commitment to for the rest of the schedule to me it’s more about just commitment to that you know the sacrifices it takes each and every day to be our best you know I don’t think it was necessarily at especially at that time uh focused on uh someone we might lose two weeks later when let’s say the portal opens or anything like that I don’t think it was you know really directed towards that it was towards the day-to-day you know work that it takes in in the process uh you know that we focus on that made it successful is making sure that that was the case getting ready for the the iron bow you know that that was the next week Tony Su Callas with Todd Illustrated yeah Kaylin I’ll ask you another kind of opt outy question but um is there ever opport is there opportunity where you have guys that could be first round or early round picks do you almost encourage those guys to um maybe maybe take care of themselves and and does this opportunity give you maybe the opportunity to to see some of the younger players and are you kind of excited about that uh yeah you’re always uh you know I don’t know if it’s gonna be because of opt outs though I think uh from what I feel right now and I’m not saying there won’t be one but I feel like right now we’re in a place where most of those guys are planning on playing I don’t care what round they’re planning on going in um you know and we’ll see uh but uh that’s my early just understanding um having talked with a few guys and uh you know these guys are committed to this place and and um you know there’s been a streak of of U you know 10 game Seasons or more or 10 10 win seasons and you know they got a lot of pride in this program and and want to continue to move it forward and you know want to want to play and spend one more game with their with their brothers here on this football team so you know I think again there we’re in a good spot uh you know there’ll be some things I’m sure with with some guys moving on out of the program as I think maybe some have already announced uh already uh that they don’t plan on being here and that’s going to be the case I think every year uh and especially here as we go through really our first full cycle where they you know we’re working together with them uh as well so last year we were really just in full retention mode you know there was no portal for us to take any guys from um I mean I guess other than programs that blos head coaches you know um and that’s a situation we were in so um you know again we’re going to build our program with uh the Freshman Class which I’m really excited about you know the the signes um we’re going to retain and we’re going to develop the guys we have here uh and um you know fixing fill in the the the areas that uh you know um need some numbers or maybe just needed you know uh need to be a little bit better on the football field on Saturday so you know that’s a that’s a fluid thing and I feel like again communication is where it all starts next let’s go to Mike rodak with Bama 247 just on those receivers entering the portal this what was your message throughout the year as maybe the opportunities and the targets might not have been there for him I think they’re aware that you know um that just our style of offense this year um you know uh it was all about whatever it took to win and I I credit those guys uh they did agree great job of doing whatever they needed to do to help us win and uh we got a lot of unselfish guys um you know that from year to year is gonna change and evolve based on the Personnel we have and um you know uh the style is going to be different it might not just be you know uh your quarterback it might be you know the number of receivers or tight ends uh yeah we’re going to try to have a some guys that fit a little bit of what would be Envision it being um you know down the road but um you know that’s that’s kind of what I really appreciate about our guys is H it was all about whatever it took to win and them taking a backseat to whatever it would take to do that for them individually and uh and just you know all those guys did that next let’s go with Chase goodread coach the last time we asked you about Jaylen hay I think back in the summer you mentioned that he had an outside chance of coming back before the end of the season can you just update his recovery and is there any chance we could see him in this bowl I don’t anticipate you seeing him in the bowl um but he’s been out there uh and it was we kind of we’re excited to i m been about maybe week or two ago um to see him out there running around and doing some things uh again not any type of full contact yet at that point but uh you know just uh was fun to see his you know body out there running around and uh you know he brings a smile on his face and I know he was enjoying that uh that moment getting out there um just working through the process work and progressing along and so um man he’s been amazing going back to uh the time he even had his injury just with his mindset and I know our guys really respect him for that and appreciate you know know the grind he’s been putting in to come back as quick as he possibly can okay let’s go with Matt stall with al.com yeah um just I mean you mentioned you’re not expecting that many opt outs but even with that how valuable can the extra Bowl practices be uh for some of the younger guys on the team yeah I think I think you know bowl games any type of postseason is just always critical um you’re just playing more football and more football uh helps everyone um it keeps you uh sharp uh it keeps you you know moving forward progressing um just you know when you don’t have this time uh it can you know really what are you doing you’re not it’s it’s a struggle to get better and so uh more meetings and uh you know again there’ll be some practices where we can dedicate uh you know that to maybe some younger guys and development there um more so than we would if we were you know getting ready for a game during the course of the regular season or even postseason too and if you’re in the playoffs but uh yeah that’s certainly this is these are added practices that we will take advantage of let’s go to Wyatt fton hey coach kind of to piggyback off what Matt said how do these pra does these practices help you get a little bit of a jump start on maybe some position battles that you’ll see next season uh I mean I think a lot of our team you know uh you know there might be a position or two but I mean with a lot of our team being the same that you know for the most part that I would expect uh for the blll game that’s been on the football field um again the the again the development I think of the guys that maybe aren’t playing as much uh yes that can happen and uh um something you’re focused on but you know we’re we’re uh you know trying to maximize the opportunity to go win a football game you know on December 31st and so uh there’ll be a lot of focus on those guys and us uh finishing this year strong you know uh these guys that are choosing to to play this last game um you know they’re doing it to win it you know and finish it out the way it’s supposed to be done uh Andrea Adon with ESPN I was hoping I could ask you um something related to the playoff because Greg you know tweeted on social media that he thought he might have to reassess what you all are doing with your non-conference schedule as a result of what happened today um and I’m wondering how you feel like the committee valued your strength of schedule in its evaluation whether they valued it or not yeah I mean as far as like the future um you know that’s kind of that’s something I’ll let kind of Greg lead the charge on and you know he is a understanding and kind of we’ll figure that out moving forward but that’s not really you know I mean we won’t play competitive games we want to playing the best games and you know understand how it didn’t feel like that um it really def definitely wasn’t rewarded it felt like uh you know with you know our schedule and and the wins we had against teams uh you know that were ranked or you know now ranked or even ranked at the time uh because there’s uh I think even like an LSU you know at the time was ranked and and isn’t anymore but um you know just we’ll have to you know I’ll let I’ll let Greg and you know administratively kind of lead the charge and better understand of you know what needs to be done for the future if anything at all but I know we got some ex you know some what would you consider higher profile games against you know uh programs that traditionally have been very successful um you know we want to be a part of that we want that to happen that’s the exciting thing about college football um is being in as many big games as possible you know we don’t want to back down to that we want to be a part of it and um you know that uh that hopefully will be rewarded down the road and we have just these two questions left so we’ll start with Leo and then finish with Trevor Leo go ahead coach you kind of alluded to this a little earlier about how certain positions have been really banged up uh linebacker on defense but your offensive line it it’s been kind of tough to get the same Five Guys to play has that uh kind of uh forced you to change your identity a little bit because you can’t get those same Five Guys in uh I think the latter half of the season it’s it’s been a little bit better um and there’s yeah there’s always reasons for different rotations right it might be that you got competition battles in some cases and I’m not just talking about even offensive line but just uh in some areas it’s just like you know this is a good way with h guys building their their stamina they’re competitive their stamina for the course of the game um and then sometimes like you said it’s it’s injury related so um I felt like our you know our offensive line uh early in the season certainly was going through a lot of that um I think there’s been solid and consistent growth uh you know there um you know some matchups are going to be tougher than others uh some you know as a whole offensive line sometimes it’s uh you know a defense and just the different things they do to make it either run the Run game tougher or um you know protection you know a little more challenging and so you know what you want to do is you want to have again an offense that can be balanced and balanced is uh you know to me all about the ability to run or pass when that is needed because the opponent’s going to try to take your best stuff away and so some of that falls on the offensive line but it also falls on other positions being able to exploit you know uh when possible or when those things come up to where they’re taking this away you go to that you know or vice versa so um we just got to keep growing our entire offense uh so that way we can take pressure off of in particular like you’re talking about the offensive line you know um and it continued I think a lot of it is just execution just it’s always better execution and that just comes with the Reps and uh you know I think we got better in a lot of ways uh you know um with reps for our whole offense but our offensive line too all right Trevor we’ll finish up with you um Jaylen milro and Tyler Booker were were two guys that were named your team MVPs specifically for them have you heard anything from them on if they’re interested in playing in this game and how important is it going to be to have senior leaders like that older guys uh opt into this game to help your culture going forward as you move on into year two yeah I mean I I feel it’s very positive and I’ll let those guys um you know make their announcements and talk to the team um we have a team meeting tomorrow um we’ll have opportunities here throughout the week uh that’s that meeting was scheduled no matter what what the case was we were going to be working out uh tomorrow no matter what and um and so you know I’ll let those guys talk but uh you know it’s it’s positive for those guys it’s positive for others too so um you know I feel feel like we’re in a good space uh in what these guys are trying to accomplish uh whether it be seniors and uh the guys who are you know using up and finishing their eligibility or guys that um you know are trying to figure out uh their course of action um potential you know related to potentially going to you know the NFL draft you know and some decisions that they’re going through right now
