what a day around the NBA trade rumors are flying we’ve got a lot to talk about today we’re going to talk a bit about Brandon Ingram we’ll talk about the Nets guys Dorian FY Smith Dennis schruder we’ll talk a little bit about well perhaps the Jimmy Butler situation Kyle kosmo with the Washington Wizards lots of stuff to dive into today welcome in everybody to the basketball bulletin this is the first time that we’ve done a live show here on the basketball bulletin Donnie and I said we’re g to go into some of the various things that are still out there that we need to wrap up here for the the basketball bows and YouTube channel and Donnie through out why don’t we just go live and and give it a shot and so here we are you guys are all part of the first ever live on the basketball bulletin happy to see yall jumping into the chat already and uh Donnie I think this is a good idea yeah I know I thought that would be uh you know something different we’ve never done it before on this channel so I’m excited to see uh how things go for us here and and talk about this and you know interact with our audience here on this channel for the first time and stuff like that so it’s pretty cool for sure for sure lots of stuff for us to get into and I guess let’s kick things off right here with what’s going on with Brandon Ingram the New Orleans Pelicans some interesting stuff coming out here that uh from sham shiria that the Pelicans had discussed trades with bi over the summer we know the pels they want to move on from Brandon Ingram if they can now he’s got this ankle injury though if this is like a Grade Three ankle spring for him that could keep him out for quite a while and so I am curious to see how that is going to actually change his market value um I mean I’m not a doctor but just checking online I mean just doing a quick a quick search grade three I mean we’re talking months that he could be out if it’s indeed a grade three so maybe that will change his value around the NBA but the pels are still going to find a trade and it seems like a trade is the most likely option here rather than extension with Brandon Ingram because he wants 50 million bucks a year he wants he wants near Max money and the Pelicans can’t get there without going over the luxury tax which they are not interested in doing so Donnie I think I think we’re going to see Brandon Ingram moved I just I don’t know where what team wants to give him that money I have a hard time coming up with an answer I mean couple months you said is the speculation for how long that could be I mean if it’s a great we don’t know yet yeah and he may come back sooner later you know things like that but we’re still early enough in the season to where like I think still similarly if if you wanted to try to talk yourself into Ingram to try to make a playoff push or maybe you thought he with the skill set he provides is the last piece that you need I think you could still maybe tuck yourself into it but what I would say is if you’re doing that you’re absolutely not giving up you know draft compensation or like the the Pelicans have no leverage um they’re may be getting like some seconds but other than that there’s not really much incentive at that point to trade him so maybe they do maybe they don’t but if you’re the you know receiving team I think you could talk yourself into it it’s just really hard when you say that he wants $50 million I I I he wasn’t inting that before the injury unless he comes back and plays unless he comes back and plays like he’s the second coming of Wilt Chamberlain uh you know for the last couple months of the season I don’t see any way he gets that and that should just being honest um so it’s really really tricky the situation that he and they are in it absolutely is absolutely is and then I just highlighted this New Orleans this is from the Shams piece New Orleans values Ingram highly and is expected to keep the extension door open with him in other words we value him super highly so don’t bring us lowball offers give us real offers but we know nobody wants to pay him 50 and that’s the trick right Donnie who number one who wants to pay him whether it’s 50 million or not who wants to pay him on his next contract and then number two who wants to give up stuff so that they can pay him on his on his next contract CU Detroit said I don’t think anyone will give up anything I just especially with this injury I just I don’t you can’t if you’re the Pelicans I don’t think they can get it both ways or it’s like we’re going to get off this guy best case scenario we’re going to get assets back and all this stuff especially with this injury too I just don’t see it happening that I think there’s actually a pretty good chance he just stays on the team throughout the duration of the year and they don’t do anything with him they just let him leave and just kind of call it from there well and the one thing is there’s there’s not a lot of cap room out this coming summer so the worst worst case scenario for the Pelicans is oh no he’s a free agent nobody has money to spend so we’re going to be talking sign and trade we’re going to get something for him either way or he’ll or the market will tell him you’re not worth this his asking price will come down and we’ll get to a number where we feel comfortable extending him so the Pelicans are still in a good spot here but I think they’re going to push and do everything they can to get them off the roster by February 6th we’ll just see if this ankle injury creates any kind of an issue with that by the way check this out our first ever Super Chat on the channel yeah let’s go first ever Ali said no Panic moves let’s go all in go Lakers oh Donnie the Lakers we we both know they they need to make some moves but the challenge is finding the right value uh out there right now it’s really tough a lot of teams are are asking for for top dollar for their players and uh maybe a bit of bad news already earlier today with the news that Walker Kessler is being pulled off the trade market by the way let’s talk about that real quick Walker Kessler off the trade market obviously was a Target that I would have liked for the Lakers a lot of people would have but a lot of teams would have been in on Walker Kessler now the Jazz apparently realizing the error of their ways and saying oh wait this guy’s actually good maybe we don’t want to trade him after all and he’s now part of our future if I’m the Jazz Donnie this is absolutely what I’m doing if I’m one of 29 other teams especially those that are really looking for a big I’m cursing my Misfortune and wondering why I didn’t go try to get him over the summer yeah I think I just think that that that the whole situation is just kind of funny because I felt like they should have been like trying to have him as part of their future going forward anyway yeah I know that he’s got some limitations and uh you’ve got to play a certain way with him out there he’s he’s a bigger lumbering big he’s not really a spacer like I get it but still he’s extremely good and he’s young to where he could be part of your core going forward after a rebuild so I always thought it was weird um and I think I think that they they’re making the right decision here uh as a franchise but part of me also wonders if this is a little bit smoke where they’re like hey last call Lakers or somebody like that give us everything you got because that’s the only way we’re coming off of Kesler going forward but regardless I think like I don’t understand why he was on the Block in the first place you don’t typically see good young players on the Block it doesn’t make any sense no you usually don’t you usually don’t and so was surprised that he was out there anyway but now it seems like he’s being pulled off the market uh somebody asked is this the first Live Liberty is this the first live of the channel it is historic moment you guys are here for it first live on the basketball bowling kind of impromptu we just threw it out there and uh and decided to go for it so here we are all right um let’s let’s jump over though to the Brooklyn Nets and what they’re doing right now the Nets are getting interest in some guys that maybe we we shouldn’t be you know surprised by interest in cam Johnson Dorian finny Smith Dennis shuder these are all guys that make a lot of sense for the Nets to move on from especially as they ramp up their tank we know that they want to try to lose games they want to capture the flag they want to get in the Cooper flag sweep Stakes a bunch of other players in this draft class and especially DFS and Dennis schruder these are two guys that I think make a lot of sense for them to move on from just because of their age they’re over 30 years old expiring contracts shuder or DFS has a player option for next year I think the Nets I’ve talked about them as the biggest seller on the market this is a team that is a One-Stop shop for any Contender looking for whatever you want a wing a guard a big whatever they’ve got it and I would be surprised if we don’t get multiple Nets trades before the February 6 deadline yeah are they the one that you called the Walmart of the NBA was that the Walmart of the NBA that’s right the One-Stop shop let’s go yeah I I think I think some of these guys for sure are going to be gone I I think I I I’m curious about cam if they’re going to do the or try to hold out for a bigger trade um where they’re getting you know more pieces on him but I also think since he was an older rookie I know he’s gonna age well but he’s also kind of on the curve um so I I I do wonder about that with like the Nets specifically trying to hold on to him and you know have him as part of their next iteration but for for sure the other guys they’re 31 there’s shooter is on an expiring deal there’s no way those guys are here they’re going to get shipped out or if they’re not that would be a problem but I do think both of those guys could also net the funny net the Nets um some some good returns there and I think with with shuder I think he could be a nice backup point guard on a team obviously not only that needs that but I I do Wonder with him because he explicitly wanted to try to get out of the backup role how would kind of buy into that he kind of was bouncing around trying to get more uh exposure play more of a starting role things like that but for DFS he’s he’s like the archetype of player that most of the teams in the league yeah even if you have a couple guys like him you wouldn’t mind adding another one because you can you can never really have enough of those guys so I think he’s gonna be a hot commodity for sure what what would you give for those guys like what what could the Nets expect in return for Dorian finny Smith I think for cam Johnson we’re definitely talking first round draft Capital because he’s under contract for 3 years he’s 28 years old expiring though for Dennis shuder 13 million bucks may be expiring depending on what he does with that player option for Dorian infiny Smith 15 million this season 15 and change next season did those guys get first schruder and and DFS do they get first round picks I don’t think schruder does um but I think I think you could if you if you got a heavily protected pseudo fake first round pick you can do that for DFS you can you can give that in a couple seconds things like that but shuder I I know his production is good but the reality is is that he’s going to want an uh another contract after this he’s expiring he’s gonna be hoping to get a raise off of this and he’s gonna want to come in and play a big role so I think with him I’m not so sure about what the Nets can get back in terms of assets it may be a situation where they get a couple seconds and a player that maybe they’ve got some interest in but DFS I expect him to pick up that option as well for next year yeah I think he probably does just given the lack of cap space that’s out there because most likely with no cap room he’s looking at a mid-level exception type deal and that’s the kind of money and that’s going to be less than that 15 million now not a lot less with the way the Cap’s going up so if he’s given say a three-year deal maybe there’s a world where he takes that and takes you know a couple million off of that 15 that he will get next year and and gets more of a longer term deal but otherwise if he’s looking for at 15 plus million minimum best bet is probably just to pick up that player option that he’s got with the lack of cap space around uh around the NBA unless he can work out something with the Nets where they they’re gonna want to hang on to him but I think that he’s not playing by the way bonovich he’s still been injured uh it would be he’s also an expiring deal he’s got to get on the floor and show people that he’s healthy he’s got to get on the floor and uh and show people he can get out there and play you know another guy to keep an eye on though it’s Deon sharp on the Nets a bruising big uh only played in three games so far this season has dealt with with some injuries but he can do some work on the boards a lot of teams right now are looking for backup bigs we’ve heard names like Larry Nance Jr dwap wath have been out there I mean I’m talking about not super exciting like headline generating guys out there but teams are looking for that that backup big so that’s the the issue with um with them so that that’s going to be a challenge what’s the deal with Dron like why isn’t he I don’t know if you know this but why hasn’t he been extended at this point do you know if there’s any reason in particular I I know he’s been in some trade rumors and things of that nature I don’t know how committed I know Nets really like Noah Clowney and so there’s some some questions there about exactly what’s going to happen with they run sharp and and his future in Brooklyn and I think that he would probably welcome a move somewhere else if he if he can uh Stacy said the Pelicans can’t sign and trade Brandon Ingram because they’re in the second apron um they’re not a second apron team the Pelicans are below that CJ McCullum Zan Williamson Trey Murphy and dejonte Murray’s contracts put them in the first apron yeah it would it would hard if they were to sign and trade him it would then yeah it would hardap them um I believe and the new CBA is tricky so I would have to go back and double check on this but I believe that it’s it would only be accepting a player via sign and trade that would hardap them there at that first apron as well so that being said I would also Imagine the Pelicans would not be looking to take back a lot of salary in a Brandon Ingram Sig a trade you’d be looking for a team that could dump some money have some room under the cap and then assign a trade maybe they can’t cover the full amount of salary it’s a tricky position to be in for sure but as their uh first apron hard cap team first apron hard yeah and this is a team that does not like to pay the tax so that’s the and they have not paid the tax so that’s going to be always a challenge with the New Orleans Pelicans when we look at stacking up some of that salary for them um looking at the Nets I I think they are I think the Nets are primed for a trade and maybe even an early trade here which could be a lot of fun let me let me ask you this Donnie if you could trade let’s say not to the Lakers so we take our own personal bias out of this you could trade any one of these players to any team in the NBA who are you sending where like what’s the most fun trade that we could make that’s a tough one because I’m looking at you know the guys we’ve talked about cam Dorian Dennis they fit a lot of places I think they they’re they fit in a lot of places yeah I think oh man I don’t want to see some of these teams get any better though just you said take our own bias on it it’s kind of hard man uh but I think cam would be awesome in a place like OKC I think he’d be awesome in I think be awesome in Denver I think he’d be awesome in Minnesota um getting them to those places is the challenge yeah it’s new cbafs I would like as well in Milwaukee I think he’d be really good there again that’s another one where you get to like Minnesota you get to Milwaukee these are second apron hardcap teams so they can’t aggregate salaries in a trade the NBA what have you done with this new CBA they blew it they they they went overboard with this in my opinion but you know let me give you one here I like Dorian finny Smith to the Orlando Magic oh that’s a good one I like that or say cam I like cam there too either either way either one would be a really interesting one but I look at Dorian finy Smith they could use more help on the wing Paulo and fronz are out injured right now both having the same oblique tear which is bizarre but they also have they also have salary here that you could add in they also have salary that you could that you could add into a deal and make it work so I think you’ve got enough pieces on Orlando to where you can make this happen and and bring him in you might have to stack up a couple of players especially like a Gary Harris I I don’t know how much value he would have to the Nets right now but Cole Anthony is another one and then if you could talk draft Capital off you go yeah what about Ben Simmons being traded to Phoenix Ben Simmons to to Phoenix troll what but but Phoenix I was going to say there’s no like they can’t aggregate salaries either um we haven’t talked about him he’s just like a $40 million expiring deal right there when you look at their cap so you think anything happens with him like I don’t he’s just gonna just ride it out for the rest of the year huh and come back on a by annual next year or something like what’s the what’s the bad contract that some team really wants to get off of like do we see I guess here here’s where where we see Ben Simmons move it’s a three- team deal or maybe more involving Zack LaVine okay I guess that works just that’s where that’s where you can give expiring salary back to a team that’s shedding contracts and and and somebody’s picking up Zack LaVine I don’t think anybody’s gonna pick him up ultimately but um that that’s where I could see something like that he’s but he is I believe he’s the biggest expiring contract in the league as from like Jimmy Butler who’s got a player option you know players like that huge expiring contract so I gotta see the Ben Simmons like his lineup data that’s what I want to see this year are you able to pull that up really quick yeah I’ll pull that up here let me let me pull performing so I while I’m pulling that up I want to mention this yon said cut Ben Simmons okay one of the things to keep in mind is let’s say Ben Simmons or any player right now that it makes more than let’s call it 13 million like that the mid-level exception any player that gets waved that’s making more than the mid-level exception they cannot sign with a team that is above the first tier apron so whether you want to talk about the Lakers or the Warriors or any of those teams right any team that’s above that first TI apron they cannot sign with a team that is that is above that first year they can’t sign any player that makes more than the mid-level exception on the buyout market so as we start and this is that new CBA coming into effect so not only is this going to make it more difficult I think for buyou players to land with good teams because that’s normally what buyout players want they want to join teams that are uh that give them the opportunity to win but I think it actually is going to depress the buyout Market because if a player because players know ahead of time before they even accept the buyout they know teams XY and z are going to be interested but if they look at the board and they see like again let’s say it’s Ben Simmons gets bought out and he sees that all of the first tier apron teams and above are completely off the board and the only teams he could sign with are below that first tier apron he might just say screw it I don’t want to give back any money in a buyout I don’t want to join any of these other teams and so I think the buyout Mark may actually wind up being depressed by these new rules I think we saw it happen already last season I’m so sick Adam Silver what did you do to the league I love man crazy it’s crazy man it’s just it it they went over board they went too far they were so determined to stop uh to stop bomber from spending more money yeah is there any way for them to amend that or do they have to wait until it’s due uh they would have to they could do it over the summer they could switch they but there would have to be in agreement with the Players Association so then you’ve got a back and forth bargaining going on there um all right here is let’s take a look at the the lineups here this is cleaning the glass they do a great job Ben Simmons what’s he actually producing here for this team let’s go lineups with okay so the Nets just to set the Baseline the Nets in general are a minus 4.3 per 100 possessions now let’s add Ben Simmons do you think it makes it better or worse look at the first two lineups it’s crazy they got the same possessions that’s right 206 and 2011 and one’s plus 16.6 and that is a non-ben Simmons lineup and then with Ben Simmons is minus 4.5 true cam Thomas cam Johnson Dorian finy Smith and Nick Clon better on defense and offense wow so minus 4.3 right now per 100 I think it gets worse it has to get worse let’s see oh it actually got better no way not it’s still it’s still negative minus 1.9 for 100 possessions with Ben Simmons in the lineup wow a lot of turnovers with him out there at least yeah that’s something God it’s still not L up it’s all negatives let’s see Ben Simmons best lineup right now with him on the court and differential it would be I mean you’ve you’ve got lineups where he’s played one possession that’s the problem yeah yeah yeah that’s not enough I guess of the lineups that he’s actually played in I mean he’s played in this one lineup a ton other than that it’s this 18.5 plus 30.5 here 30 it’s not pretty nasty it’s not pretty I think he could fit somewhere if they you know were able to make a trade for him maybe maybe you he’d have to he would have to really [Music] be you’d have to believe he could become the defender that he was and if that’s the case that sure people should be interested uh drock said I like eighton and two seconds to the nets for Simmons oh Portland huh okay Portland getting off using Simmons contract to get off of the Aton salary knowing that they’ve got Donan kingan maybe they keep Robert Williams in this scenario and they clear up that future salary that’s interesting I guess my question with that is why do the Nets want e yeah the Nets also they have a center under longterm contract already uh you’d have to incentivize that yeah in claxon you’d have to incentivize I think a little bit beyond two seconds uh because they don’t need another Center and how how many years does Aiden have left uh I’m pulling that number right now Aiden has two seasons under contract 34 million this season 36 million essentially next season oh that’s not too bad it’s it’s not bad but but like again I I guess the value to the Nets is you’re getting a couple of seconds Aon is Aon is fine as a player he’s just fine but the Nets are buying future assets not buying guys so this I I could see something like this but number one I think Portland’s pretty stingy they’re not going to want to give up anything just to move eighton off their salary I don’t think they’re going to worry about that so I think they would have to get some value coming back for him I don’t think the Nets want to provide that value to me this screams three team trade you would need a third team a team where Aon makes sense Landing there the the Nets getting some assets and the Blazers getting some type of small asset in addition to the the uh the salary off the books yeah no I agree with you I I think I think it could be an interesting landing spot for Simmons but you’re banking on him turning back into what he was defensively and I don’t know scoring three or four more points per game Ben is that too much to ask you average like six points per game at least average 10 but you know I don’t I think you’re kind of banking on a couple things but at the same time it’s not like Portland is looking to win right now so you know I’m just curious about him in contractually like is he gonna be like I said earlier a biannual guy like what is he he’s not getting a full Med level that’s just not happening so uh let’s let’s go here this is an interesting one comment Dennis said the CBA is doing actually what the owners wanted to do limit player movement because players have been abusing their rights and destroying teams that is fair that I mean so is there like we go back to say the 80s we go back to the 90s there was a it was a lot more for a player to get drafted by a team and then stay with that team for their entire career very rare now it just doesn’t happen very often it’s part of the reason why I didn’t want Dame to be traded off the Blazers because I wanted to I wanted to have another guy that played his entire career somewhere and that builds that builds that connection with the fan base that that lasts the entirety of the career um so that is more more of a rarity however as far as the the owner’s limiting player movement it was the owners themselves who created all of this player it wasn’t the player people want to blame the players say oh the players they’re colluding they’re getting together while playing for Team USA and LeBron and Bosch and Wade and so bad and all this kind of stuff are those things happening yes but why is it happening because owners got tired of giving out seven-year contracts to guys who would get hurt halfway through and then paying the dude for another four years and so owners shorten contracts that was part of CBA negotiations like 15 years ago more than that they they shortened contracts and what that did was that created more opportunities for players to move because they were free agents more often and then hitting the market at the same time as other guys and so the owners themselves in their efforts to not pay guys on long-term deals created more opportunities for players to move and things like that and I actually think the league league benefits as a whole just as part as being part of the news cycle um from all of the the buzz from trade talks and player movement and all of that that said the traditionalist in me gets the laments the the fact that now players don’t stick with teams as often it there’s not that necessarily s that sense of loyalty and I think that’s something that gets reflected upon fans because fans have that loyalty towards their team and they want to feel like the players do too um of course the counter argument always being but teams can always trade a player at a moment’s notice they’re not necessarily loyal to players why should players be loyal to teams so it’s look this is a big topic that we could spend all day Don we could spend an entire show talking about this but um it is limiting player movement but I’ll tell you who’s complaining the most right now it’s general managers around the NBA that are complaining about the new CBA yeah I just don’t think when they sat down and they talked about this and they said this is what’s going to happen and then in this scenario XYZ is going to be applicable I don’t think they fully thought everything through and the way that it would impact change in the league for the next you know couple years whatever it is because you have situations where it’s it’s heavily restricted monetarily uh these guys are not able to improve their rosters or things like that some GMS unfortunately have used that as a crutch but you know that being said um there are there are things here that I think are legitimately bad and I think that’s why I asked about them re revisiting it because I think they will come back and say okay we definitely overdid it and like you mentioned earlier a lot of that was because they looked at Steve Balmer was like can can’t nobody in the League match this dude in terms of spending so if he’s allowed to say I don’t care about luxury taxes charge me a billion dollars in luxury taxes I don’t care we’ll just keep on Fielding whatever team I want and so they they Tred to make everybody else play by the same rules you know and or him play by the same rules everybody else I should say and I think that is the right decision but also it kind of penalized some of these teams along the way so I think they’ll have to figure out what the right balance is yeah they tried to hurt bomber in the wallet and the and the warrior and some of these other teams they tried to hurt them in the wallet because they recognized that they simply could not hurt them I’m sorry had tried to hurt them in roster building because they could not hurt them in the wallet um and that’s that’s the way it went but I I’ve got a comment in here that says the new um let’s see if the Celtics keep winning the new CBA will be a disaster well and I’m not gonna spend a ton of time on this we’ve got some other topics and stuff that that we need to get into here but um I I did want to just show this this I think is going to be fascinating when it comes to the Celtics um with the new restrictions that are in the CBA it’s actually going to make it fairly difficult for them to keep this entire team together they can if they want to just you know keep paying and keep paying and keep paying but there are some negative consequences um that go along with that and the the actual I’ve got a chart here that shows off all the negative consequences and everything but it’s processing slowly here I forgot don’t you start losing assets and all that stuff like don’t they start penalizing you I forgot all about that element of it so here I can I can probably just do a a screen share a little bit easier um to show you guys kind of oh wait here it is now it’s up so check it out if you you cannot if you’re above that second tier apron you can’t make trades where one where you aggregate salaries you can’t uh sign players to minimum you can only sign players to minimum contracts uh you can’t acquire a player via trade exception you can’t send out cash in a trade and then there’s some other things that go beyond this where like seven years from now your draft pick will go to the back of the first round and who knows what teams are going to look like at that point so and this I think this is part of why the Celtics are looking to be sold you know they’re they’re like you know what there’s some pretty tough punitive measures coming in so yeah yeah the CBA is no joke it it’s crazy cuz layers like there’s so many layers to it that you just don’t even you can’t remember all of it and then it’s just like oh I forgot that was a thing oh I that’s a thing too wow so yeah this CVA is crazy yeah uh yeah Jeff what’s up Jeff said uh ownership the Celtics isn’t fully on board with spending one of the things they listed as to why they’re selling yeah they they are probably going to continue to to look to sell that team and move on I I think they’re going to be good for a long time Al Horford May reti yep that would certainly help that would certainly help they are look they’ve got a great team put together the question will be this is the big test for the CBA are they going to be able to keep it together or not because the new CBA is designed to do two things it’s designed to make sure that no team and again I think they went too far with it but no team stays on the bottom for too long and no team stays at the top for too long that’s what it’s meant to do teams at the top have to make some really tough choices and lose some players look at what happened with Denver with kcp look at what happened uh with the warriors with Clay you have to make some tough choices the the Clippers with with Paul George and you’re not going to be able to just spend spend spend you’re going to have to offload some of that Talent as they get more expensive and that’s going to cause you to drop down a little bit meanwhile teams at the bottom as those players get offloaded from the top teams at the bottom will be able to spend on some of those players and that will lift them up they don’t want the Sacramento Kings missing for 17 straight Seasons the NBA playoffs and they don’t want one team sitting at the top forever right or wrong you can argue against that happening super teams are very profitable for the NBA but that’s the path they’re going down right now yeah I just think it’s weird when you know trade season buyout season all that stuff is also extremely important to the NBA and it feels like that stuff’s going to wind up being suppressed this year and going forward because of the changes they made and that’s why I think they’ve just gone a little too far they’ve G and here’s here’s what I would fix Donnie I think it’s easy I think this is a simple fix take the rule that you cannot accept more salary in a trade than you than you send out that is a rule that hits first apron teams and make that just a SE second apron thing because effectively what happens is it means if you’re above the first apron it is nearly impossible for two teams that are above the first apron to make a direct onetoone trade with each other and so you nearly need like dollar immediate like one one for one dollar matching yeah or you would need some exceptions brought it’s it’s very difficult so I think that restricts the general trade market a lot bump that up to just being a second tier restriction and that I think opens up a lot of the uh a lot of the the trade market yeah I agree all right uh let’s get into a few more of our questions here uh oh we already did the 8 in one I want Jonathan kaminga and and O Kinga and cam Johnson on the Nets possible if the Nets jumped in as a third team in a Warriors trade which we talked a little bit about Warriors trades earlier today the video that went out here on the basketball bulletin if they if the Nets are a third team in a Jonathan kaminga trade that would land a star to the Warriors and that’s the only way I think the Warriors are giving up Jonathan kaminga so if we want to talk you know I I pose the question Jimmy Butler is are you giving up Jonathan kaminga if you’re the Warriors you’re getting Jimmy Butler in the deal is that enough um but that’s where maybe the Nets jump in as somehow a third team and they could send assets to the team that would have been getting kaminga but I would say it’s unlikely that that happens yeah yeah you’re you’re looking at a situation similarly to when the Nets jumped in last time with Jared Allen they were like oh yeah or the Cavs jumped in in that trade and they snagged him basically but for the Nets in this case right with similar situation now Donnie would you would you do that if the deal is let’s say You’re Building off of Andrew Wiggins salary and it is Andrew Wiggins maybe it’s cavon Looney it’s it’s it’s DeAnthony Melton you’re stacking up some expiring contracts But ultimately the main value piece leaving the Warriors is Jonathan kaminga who’s going to be a restricted free agent this summer going to Miami Jimmy Butler coming to the Golden State Warriors if you’re the Warriors are you doing that oh I I I that’s a tough one I would I would generally say no I I think you’re you’re going all in on the next couple of years here with that core that they’ve got because they’re going to have some some pretty old guys there but maybe they could pull it off which is what they’d be banking on but I just I don’t like the idea of just trying to ship out kuminga just because it’s kind of weird it’s weird to me that they haven’t already committed to him already up to this point anyway um I think I think he’s gonna be a really good NBA player and they should probably consider that but up to this point like I said they haven’t committed to him so it’s kind of a weird situation to be I think he’s going to be really good and he’s been I mean he’s bumped Draymond Green out of the starting lineup right now yeah if I’m the Warriors I don’t know if I would do it and I think Jimmy makes them more likely to win a title right now definitely that’s I he does they’re better right now so you’re you’re making the argument is it are you going all in for stuff right now or you gonna try to start trying to do you know a couple years from now a few years from now when Steph is not in the picture anymore and kumiga could you know Ascend at that point are you gonna give up on that or or keep him around what are you doing I personally the way I actually I don’t want to give up on kuminga from them but at the same time you don’t get a Steph Curry every day man if you feel like you get a chance to win right now and you’re getting back a star level player regardless of what he is in the regular season playoff Jimmy’s a thing if you can get him there I I may I may just be foolish enough to do it you don’t get a step every day I I’ll tell you what if I’m Miami I’m 100% doing it yeah but then why did the Nets get kuminga then oh no no I’m just talking about if it’s a if it’s a warrior now you may need a third team because facilitating the trade between it’ll be tough between Miami and Golden State Golden State hard cap to the first apron it it’s tough to make that work but so maybe Nets somehow get in and you know set pieces go from the Nets to uh you know maybe it’s we’ll talk a minute here about cam Thomas maybe it’s something like that goes to the heat I don’t know but if we’re just talking about if Miami is if they cut out any other team and they land kaminga I’m doing that if I’m the Miami Heat because I don’t want to be the team to pay Jimmy Butler on his next contract if I’m Miami I like kuminga on on Miami sure I like that a lot he’d be great great uh spacy said the Clippers should trade for bi okay so how do you trade for bi if you’re the Clippers you’re stacking up um have to stack up a few salaries there in order to make that work can they yeah so move Kawai PJ Batum oh trading Kawai for Brandon Ingram that’s a hot take yeah trading kawhai now Kawai the word was today that Kawai is um he’s in I believe it was limited practice sessions right now so he is getting back on on the court uh PJ Tucker is an expiring contract I definitely expect the Clippers to try to move him they have been been trying to move him the problem is I think most teams are going to believe that PJ Tucker will just be bought out if he’s not traded and so if you really and I don’t think a lot of teams want PJ Tucker right now but if they did they say why give up something for him we can just get him in the buyout Market but um but Kawai PJ Batum for bi and CJ McCullum and appels first go all the 2026 P well thank goodness it’s not the 2025 cuz they’re tanking right now go all in with Harden and pels let the claw rest and tank then go all in healthy next year what do you think um you’re getting CJ CJ and you’re getting bi and you’re giving out Kawai PJ Batum that’s significant Firepower so here’s my challenge Donnie and the Clippers offense has not been great but their superpower has been their defense so I worry that You’ be setting them back you’ve been taking what’s given them success this year and negatively impacting that to a degree where maybe the net value isn’t as positive as you would think because you you’re certainly getting better offensively but it’s not like you’re getting a guy like Brandon Ingram is hurt right now it’s not like you’re getting a guy that is not also a substantial injury risk like kawhai is now he’s much younger if you’re getting appels first too like honestly I’m probably doing it if I’m the Clippers I just don’t know if they keep the same team identity with this and then if you’re the Pelicans I’m not honestly if I’m the Pelicans I’m not doing this first of all I don’t want to give up a first and then from there why do I want to turn Brandon Ingram who my big issue with him is his lack of availability and how much he’s going to cost into another expensive player in Kawhi Leonard who also has a lack of availability and is older I’m not if I’m the Pelicans I wouldn’t do that also says on spot track which is those five players the trade fails because the Clippers are hard capped and they’re going a little bit over figured it probably be it’s like four million roughly four million over with those five players I mean you could you could find another player to put in there or you could find a way to do it yeah but I don’t know that this changes the identity like for the Clippers this isn’t this doesn’t really change much based on what they are right now I mean there’s the huge looming Co and what he is and what he could potentially be when he comes back out there but the reality is is that they haven’t played with him this season um PJ I don’t think is really in the rotation uh Batum is good but I think that they’re getting better with this trade based on what they are currently because kawhai is not out there um and you’re getting in two offensive pieces sure two guys that can create for themselves you’d still have you know Harden like they mentioned here uh I don’t know that that team Peaks as a championship team but I think they’d be a really tough out I don’t think their defense has compromised too much I think they’ve got a great roster build they’ve got great depth you still have maybe you make CJ your Sixth Man combo guard Off the Bench uh because you don’t want to bench Harden or Powell at this point I wouldn’t so I think they could do something like that and make it work and in terms of the Pelicans um I I think that’s where it’s a little tricky because if theoretically you’re able to do this what’s what’s happening with kawhai because him and Brandon is like or him and Zion excuse me is like I don’t I don’t I don’t know what to say about that I’ll tell you this if kawi Leonard and Zion Williamson end up on the same team I am buying stock in bubble wrap because they are going to have to bubble wrap these two guys all season long I don’t man I wouldn’t wish this on the pels they’ve been for a team that has been insanely injured all season I I’m not I would not put this on them that’s bral yeah that’s and there was a story that came out that kawhai is very upset that he’s not able to participate like Trev always says these guys don’t want to you know not not play they want to play but I’d have to I’d have to bet that Kawai is not going to be worth $50 million a couple years from now I’d actually be surprised not because of of how good he is but because of his availability I i’ only imagine it gets worse uh and Zion is still up in the air I don’t even think he wants to be in New Orleans maybe this trade would reinvigorate him to some degree but I think that’s a little bit tricky yeah yeah all right let’s uh let’s get into this we’ve got uh a couple of little things to wrap up here from the chams Tania piece I’ve got a couple of super chats we’ll get through to finish off but uh interest mult multiple teams have begun expressing interest in Jeremy Grant Anthony Simons Robert Williams I’m still not a fan of the Jeremy Grant contract but there are the Blazers 100% should be a seller and we’ll see how that looks Kyle kosma is also a guy that contending teams are expressing interest in our old friend from La Kyle kma and he’s a guy who can give you he’s not shot the ball well but coming off the bench for a contending team he’s versatile enough to switch between positions I think it’s also why we saw the rumor the other day that teams were interested in Larry n Jr just with the way the NBA Playoffs have gone teams are looking more and more for guys that have the versatility to switch between multiple positions because the guys that don’t are getting picked on more and more especially defensively uh by teams in the postseason so not a surprise that kzo would have interest um let me ask you this Donnie without factoring in team need Jeremy Grant or Kyle kosma which player would you rather have uh that’s tricky that’s tricky I’m a little I’m a little down on KZ just because he hasn’t been good over the last couple Seasons it doesn’t feel good to be down on Kyle kman too because I like the guy I like I like I just I feel like some of that may just be that he’s not in a good place so he’s not locked in and you know he’s not performing the way he would be defenses are key on him so he be he will be better on the team with better options like I think CZ May scale a little bit better but I think Grant is the better player so I guess if I had to choose you know contracts aside I would say Grant you know the thing about the grant one is we’ve had Blazers fans on on the channel say that it’s not a negative contract and if you think about if you think that then that’s perfect I don’t have any problems with that you like it I love it I actually don’t know if it’s as bad of a contract as it appeared to be um that’s fair it’s like what 30 million I’m not really all too it’s nothing it’s not like it’s a crazy deal I just don’t know if I want to give up two first or anything like that for him yeah I mean it’s so oh and it’s got years on it though that’s it’s got Years Years Oh I thought he only had a couple years left no no it’s it’s got you know four years including this year three years after the season that’s a lot he’s not really much of a defensive player he’s one of the worst rebounders as a wing in the n right now at his position I’m not saying he’s a bad player he’s not a bad player but um yeah I I still don’t think it’s a good I know look I would not want if I’m a Portland fan I would not want to admit he’s a bad contract either I don’t think he’s he’s not a good contract and I don’t think he’s a neutral cont it’s not a nuclear contract like we thought when he first signed it but I would still if I’m a team I don’t want to pay Jeremy Grant $36 million when he’s 34 35 years old he’s got a hundred million after this year and a player option in the last year CZ doesn’t look great but I think I’d take who just to be honest with you I don’t think there’s a I don’t think there’s a huge difference there to be like yeah I want to get grant instead and you’d also be banking on Grant turning back into being more of a 3 and D style role player like he was back in his nuggets days and if you got that version of Grant I think I think you could say that that’s a good player I just don’t know if he’s worth 34 36 especially with the current CVA it’s going to be a really tough sell um I’d actually be more interested in somebody like Robert Williams who has his health issues but is such a defensive Dynamo and always has been uh you’ve only got a couple years there if he’s if he’s not you know able to be healthy he’s not good for you whatever you can cut bait with him pretty easily he’s not going to be a hard contract move or you just ride it out a couple years here uh he’s still young to be in a system for a while like theoretically because the Lakers need a big we talk about that a lot I would like Robert with ad but you’d have some serious health concerns which by the way ad not Street closed has played 150 of 160 of his last games so not Street Clos um but I I really like Robert I mean look at him here playing 19 minutes per game putting up two blocks of Steel I mean yeah for seven games but still let get out let him if he can get out there if if how many games did you play last year didn’t he play like six yeah six games last season 35 games that this season play less than 50 games in three years that’s nasty work right that’s very nasty he’s been in concussion protocol he just tends to get hurt and I wish he didn’t because he’s a good player but man you got to be you got to have the uh the titanium coones to to make this kind of a a trade to go get Robert Williams it’s 13 mil you can get it’s not a lot that’s that’s certainly true it’s not like it’s a long-term deal and maybe that’s where teams just say you know what we’ll roll the dice and worst case our downside is he’s on the books next year and doesn’t play a bunch but um man uh of all the players that you wish could just stay healthy in the NBA Robert Williams has certainly got to be near the top of the list because he’s a he’s a fun player when he’s out there and he’s healthy um the chat said that he’s a theoretical player he’s a theoretical player who’s who is who is more of an an imaginary or theoretical player at this point Robert Williams or Jared Vanderbilt V I knew you gonna say it it’s Vando I I have really the answer is Robert but like for me the answer is Vando he doesn’t exist me I I think I think Vando is the equivalent of the Sasquatch like you just the only thing I see of him is gr photos he doesn’t actually exist that’s that’s the way I see him for sure he’s a mythical creature Jared B so so there’s a few other players that are on the trade market Kyle kozma Anthony Simon somebody should take a chance on him Robert Williams um I I think the most encouraging thing is that there’s a lot of players on the market I know the new CBA is going to make things tough but it feels like there’s more sellers on the market than we’ve seen in years past so I think that’s a good thing for the NBA trade market as a whole uh let’s finish off with a few of our uh our remaining super chats here uh let’s see exceptions needed for teams with players they drafted eliminate the aggregating salaries Rule raise the first apron limit and do Trevor suggestion moving that item from the first apron so um allowing teams that are above the second apron to aggregate salaries uh to take that restriction away so that teams could if you’re the Bucks you could stack up a couple of salaries you want to Stack Up Pat conon and Brook Lopez you can do that and go make a b a bigger move that would open things up a lot um as far as exceptions needed for teams with players they drafted boy Donnie that would talk about shifting everything that if you now have but like you would never trade away a young player if you got an exception a cap exception for a player if you drafted them like dra draft picks would Skyrocket in value that that would change the like if you could get let’s say you get let’s say you get Cooper flag and now he’s on in a rookie contract and the team whatever team drafts him that team has him as an exception against the cap for the for however long they have him for for his entire career that’s crazy I never trade him that’s that’s probably overpowered probably that’s uh the rest of this though seems reasonable to me though you know eliminating eliminating the aggregating rule raising the apron limit for the first apron and then also moving that piece where um that you mentioned where what was it again the team’s uh what was it the hard cap or whatever it was we mentioned earlier about how that should be on the second apron piece oh oh it’s yeah it’s that uh teams that are above the first tier apron are not allowed to take back more salary in a trade than they send out yeah yeah which effectiv the concept of it is fine it just it it just means once you imp men it it for essentially forbids any team that’s above the first that’s in the aprons that’s above the first tier from Trading directly with each other because somebody’s got to take back more salary and so I get the idea we don’t want teams to be able to absorb salary in a trade and the Knicks found a way around it the Knicks were able to actually absorb extra salary by signing guys that weren’t on the team before specifically to put into a trade that was created by them um in the Carl Anthony towns deal but this is um this is yeah this is a a a move that I think should happen they should move that to the second apron that would open things up quite a bit and allow teams to take back salary maybe limit the amount of salary and that’s maybe another way to approach the whole exception for drafted players make them count half of what they count or something like that so maybe it’s not as overpowered yeah I think so can you can you really quick pull up the OKC um trade assets list okay cuz I I was doing the I was working on the LeBron trade video yesterday and I was like you know what I give up because it’s too hard all the all the apron stuff makes it difficult but one of the teams I stumbled on was OKC and I I just odly started laughing looking at all their draft picks the years they’ve got them like the other teams draft picks so yeah I I think it goes without saying Stacy that you know they can at any point try to make an all-in trade to get a star because they’ve got the the assets to do it I think what it would come down to is um how old is set star like I was mentioning LeBron earlier I think if they if they I don’t think they should do that but if theoretically they were like hey LeBron you want to come over here uh you know I think they could do it they could pull it off both teams are probably pretty happy with that and they could say we’re gonna win the championship this year like I think they can go to anybody and it would be how old are they and do we have the matching salaries because I think that’s another piece of this is the salary matching is a little bit tricky for this team without them having to give up a bunch of guys yeah that’s that’s the tricky part for OKC it’s the saler matching but um Donnie you know uh you know what a CVS receipt looks like right yeah it’s all a billion little things at the end of it yeah C because that is essentially the Thunder yeah and their and their draft Capital um when we’re talking about future future draft picks everything they’ve got uh to work with there so let me pull that up right now oh my God it I audibly started laughing looking at it I was like this is disgusting insane it’s insane now one thing to keep in mind is that not all of not all first round picks are created equal not all of these are as valuable as they might look and a lot of them are extremely complicated like here’s swap rights and stuff like that but this is this is the incoming side so on the left hand this is a real GM here the outgoing side is right here they’ve given up a 2025 second that’s they’ve got the best team in the Western Conference and they’ve only got a SE a 20 25 second that’s on the way out now watch how far this year uh yeah I think one is a swap but look at this my God they’ve got four first now again some of these are protected like Utah’s first round pick select protected one through 10 that’s not going to convey this year you know what I mean they have Philly’s pick but it’s protected one through six Philly I think they will get better at some point I think Miami is protected 1 through 14 so they might get that one this year um swap rights here but look at this I’m still going I’m still going a lot of these are second rounders they get a 2029 first from Denver here look at that a lot of it second rounders it’s not necessarily like the cream of the crop the top tier assets but there’s a ton of picks coming OKC’s way yeah this is insane I I don’t even know what to say about this like I like I said I couldn’t help but laugh looking at it because it’s just so silly they’ve got everything here now not all this like you’ve been saying is not all going to convey or it’s not going to show up how you would think it would because of the protections on that but they and they’re already halfway through selecting a bunch of picks to get the guys they’ve got now so like this is crazy um let me get to this somebody said uh this is a uh a Lakers channel in Disguise this how they’ve come up like twice on the show we were just talking about OKC we’re not even talking Lakers we’re talking about the whole NBA here n because when you’re here we’re always addressing the nation my guy that’s what it is oh I guess that’s it I guess that’s it um oh of course the no I’m gonna I’ll wait on this comment then since it’s the Lakers comment Roy of course said oh this one is Lakers too Melton kaminga for ruy Jaylen hood chafino and a first that’s not the kind of move the Warriors are looking to make if they’re going to use that expiring contract with Melton and kaminga they want Star that’s what they want they don’t want to get an they want Stars put him next to Steph and and Draymond that’s not the kind of move they’re looking to make alvan Traders said first apron limit will go up approximately 195 million next year because of the 10% increase in cap uh if it does go up 10% assuming that it does with the TV deal and all that yeah it’ll it’ll go up accordingly it will also go up accordingly that’s good um Spacey would you trade wood and Max Lewis for bones Highland in a second if you could grab Ben Simmons after a possible buy well that’s what we talked about earlier on the show no team that’s above the first TI apron can sign players on the buyout market so and that’s part of the restrictions that are that are here um cannot uh sign a buyout player who made more than the non- taxpayer midlevel exception so if there’s a player that makes 5 million bucks and they get bought out you could still sign the player if you’re above that first tier apron if that player makes more than the what 12ish 13ish million that the mid-level exception is they you can’t sign that player so that’s crazy so like the Lakers any other you they cannot sign say Ben Simmons if he got bought out but wood and Max Lewis for bones Highland I’ll tell you this the Clippers the only way they’re trading with the Lakers is if they’re fleecing the Lakers so I’d be cautious of trading with the Clippers and I don’t blame them that’s what they should do yeah no I agree they should try it all right Donnie you know what we sat down I know I know all jokes um we sat down and I said we’re not going to do a very long live we’re just going to go over some of the trade stuff and here we are so many of you jumped in and had so many trade comments and all that kind of stuff the first time we’ve ever gone live on this channel that it’s been nearly an hour that we’ve been here for you guys are awesome um this was great this was fantastic um appreciate all of you guys for joining us Donnie great suggestion to go live here and um this did this did way better than I would have imagined but so far everything that we’ve done here on basketball bulletin has blown me away the support that we’ve been getting yeah I guess since we’re live I can say thank you everybody that Tunes in seriously this channel is growing and progressing much faster than we thought it would um and we are having a ton of fun with it and we appreciate that you guys are having a ton of fun tuning in and checking out the content that we’re making on the channel and going live for the first time we weren’t sure how it would go looks like we had great reception we’re gonna have to try to figure out how and when we’re going to do it but uh we definitely need to do it more often so thank you guys for you know checking us out we really appreciate it yes yes indeed thank you to all of you everybody and uh if you haven’t checked it out yet we went over earlier today the Warriors their trade
