hey Dan coach Miller here with NorCal sports with another video this video is on the signing of Mike esmy by the San Francisco Giants and tendering three other guys on Friday November 22nd let’s get into this before we do just want to give a shout out to our sponsor of this video Chapman Law Group check out Chapman Law Group in the description of this video all right everybody let’s get into this yes to on Friday November 22nd was signed to a one-year deal for 9.25 million the Giants also tendered Lamont Wade Camilo dval and Tyler Rogers as expected all four were pretty much expected to be tendered but if anyone was not going to get tendered it was YZ because of the amount in the contract getting 9.25 million for really a fourth outfielder a guy whose production has probably seen its best days and he’s 34 years old and um you know he’s on the decline he he started out well in 2019 then had a really good season in that shortened 2020 season only 60 games and everybody thought you know hey MVP candidate you know I think he finished in the top 10 maybe fifth somewhere around there but it was a 60 Game season so now we look at yz’s production for the last four years 21 2 3 and four all been pretty low in the batting average and a guy that strikes out quite a bit so what does this mean what does this mean for the San Francisco Giants Buster posie Buster POS is on record as saying that he wants to change the philosophy of hitting and getting guys that make more contact Yas has a heavy uppercut either strikes out a lot pops out or he tends to launch it out but not much in between and this is a move that a has a lot of people’s head shaking their heads because frankly are you bringing him back to be a starter you’re certainly not bringing him back to be a fourth outfielder at night 9.25 million you can go out and sign free agent backup outfielders for 3 four million even less on some on some people you know uh the market for Michael conforto is going to be who is a free agent is probably in that four to five million range is what spot track is projecting Michael conforto and I think conforto gives you more production than Yas so the one thing Yas has is he has you know excellent he plays excellent defense but if you know you look at his statist statistics last year he had 474 plate appearances and he batted 231 and his strikeouts he had and see where is 124 strikeouts in 100 or 474 plate appearances that’s a k rate of 26% 26% now the guy he hit 18 home runs you can’t have a guy in your lineup along with Matt Chapman and Elliot Ramos Ramos and Chapman are your bigger power hitters on the team but you can’t have a guy striking out 26% of the time this is what killed the Giants last year with runners in scoring position so this is not a recipe for success and here’s my take I think they signed him I think he’s going to get traded still in the off season and I think the Giants are going to have to package him with somebody else someone like a Camilo Deval and probably pay half of the salary for Yas for someone to take him in a deal and this this isn’t a sign that I really don’t know exactly what they’re going to do but if if Yas is your starting right fielder in 20125 as it was tweeted out by Alex pavlovic uh a Giant’s Insider who said that you’re starting Outfield there YZ is signed the starting outfielder outfield for next year is OS in left Jung hul Lee in center and Mike yky in right field that is a recipe for a fourth place finish and another under 500 team if you got Yas in your lineup as a starting everyday player that just can’t happen and pay a guy 9.25 million for that type of production and so my thing is is Luis montos needs to get a crack at starting in the Outfield he’s a guy who makes contact he’s young the Giants need to choose a lane that’s the one thing the Giants have to do is pick a lane okay either Drive in the slow lane and start to rebuild this thing or get over into the fast lane and start signing big-time free agents you know Corbin Burns Blake Snell or and you know another type of pitcher a walker buer and a valdi get three starting pitchers and go out and sign a Willie Adamas and go get yourself a teoscar Hernandez or Anthony sandoor or something if you want to compete but choose a lane stop this Middle Lane driving down the middle Lane and shooting for a playoff birth trying to get to 85 87 wins and ending up with 78 to 80 wins this is a recipe for disaster giants either have to decide look we’re going want to spend a lot of money every year and we’re not going to worry about the luxury tax we’ve got tons of money in our ballpark we’ve got the mission Rock the ballpark paid for we can spend up there annually close with the Dodgers and what the Mets and the Yankees are spending because we’re a major Market team and we’ve got this Mission Rock Project that’s going to be bringing in hundreds of millions of dollars worthwhile and it’s building up the franchise the Giants are loaded with cash stop acting like a you know a stepchild that doesn’t isn’t getting anything of value you know come on let’s get this team up and going all right either rebuild it or spend the money all right there’s nothing worse than middling around because you know what happens when you middle around you end up like the Giants of the last three years right around 500 or under 500 and you end up with the 15th the 16th 17th pick in the draft and you never go anywhere you’re just constantly spinning wheels okay uh there was an old song called spinning wheels got to go round you know it Giants just they’re like stuck in the mud without four-wheel drive that’s a good description of them they’re stuck and they can’t seem to get out of it and and signing guys like yes is just unbelievable the only thing I can think of is maybe Buster you know at the GM meetings after the World Series in early November they had some talks with some people and they maybe you’ve got a deal in place maybe some GM says hey you know uh we’ll make this deal we’re interested in y but you’re going to have to get him signed because if he becomes a free agent we may not be able to get him whatever I don’t know I I really don’t understand this this signing because it doesn’t spell Excellence that’s why I think a trade could be on the way and um you know the Giants if they keep Y and they keep everything now hear me out I’m going to I brought this up a a lot guys and you’ve heard me talk about trades and I’m not for trading Logan web just to trade Logan web okay he’s a valuable pitcher he’s got a great contract he’s an Innings eater he’s a leader he’s a valuable player but if you’re not going to build around Logan web what’s the use of keeping Logan web around for the next three four years if you’re not going to utilize him you might as well either start getting players that can help him that produce some runs and guys that can hit the ball contact make contact or you’re better off rebuilding and nobody else is has more value than Logan web the baseball trade analyzers had um Logan web um they uh had them just a week ago ranked with a surplus value of 74 just checked it today it’s down to 60 they redid their uh their numbers as as they do so that means what does that mean it means Logan web’s value on the for a trade is getting lower he’s not as worth as much as he was earlier so now that it’s the off season his value has dropped and you know I was looking at some possible trades that could be something that does something for the Giants I want to show you this from the baseball trade analyzer a lot of people okay this is a trade that says it’s a fair trade you see that on the screen there it says fair trade at the top and the Giants would trade to the Boston Red Sox Logan web for Marcelo mayor and actually this is not showing all of it but Yas was included in this deal guys I don’t know why it’s not showing but that’s that’s what you could do you could you could trade a Logan web and a Mikey scrii for a Marcelo mayor who’s the 11th ranked Prospect in Bleacher Report he’s a top five or 10 Prospect with Major League Baseball he’s an upand coming shortstop he was a double a last year he’s probably going to be at tripa a pocket this year for the Red Sox may make an appearance but he’s a guy that a lot of people are very high on there’s no guarantee that’s a that’s a good fit either I mean there’s other options out there that you could do with web but my whole thing is with Logan web is you know what he’s valuable build around him go get some guys but if you’re just going to re flush what you’ve had the last couple years if Yas is going to be in your Outfield and that’s your plan for the 25 season that’s not going to work we’ve all seen this story what what’s the definition of insanity uh doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results are we really going to get anything different out of Yas as he enters his age what 35 Yas is uh currently he is 34 turns 35 next August okay so he’s 34 for most of the season but he’s going to be 35 look he’s not getting younger okay and uh you’re either getting better or you’re getting worse Yas isn’t getting better okay so I just don’t understand this move we’ll see what happens I do think a trade is still a possibility uh I think a trade is possible with with um even Lamont Wade guys there is um Bleacher Report put something out recently that shows every Major League team’s player most likely to be traded you know who they they picked yep they picked Lamont Wade there it is Jeff passon also reported that buster posy now the president of baseball Ops for the Giants is willing to move Wade and or outfielder Mike yriy there will likely be interest in both but Yas is 34 and entering his contract year which will probably probably limit the return San Francisco could get for him Wade 30 is probably best suited to play first base though he has Corner Outfield experience he has some pop and has average 69 walks over the past two seasons with a pair of years before free agency Wade could be one of the more under the radar big pickups this off season okay so as says yes isn’t going to bring much in return that’s why I say they’re not going to get anything for him for 9 and A4 million they’re going to have to probably not even get much for him if they paid the majority of his salary for somebody okay they’re gonna have to package him with somebody that somebody’s interested in could be a camoo Deval for example could be um a minor leager or two out there you know you could maybe there’s a a Carson wizen hunt that some team team might be interested in um the Lefty who’s didn’t have a great year last year but there’s the Giants are I just can’t believe they’re going to come back with them I expect YZ fully to be traded and if he’s back like again I said expect a fourth place finish in a sub 500 team that just shows and tells me that the Giants are not really doing a whole lot that that uh posy you know he signed Chapman to a six-year deal which was an overpay in my opinion in years with a no trade clause the whole thing was you know Chapman said hey we’re gonna bring this back next year we’re going to be a better team we’re you know guys are coming guys have been telling me they want to come to the Giants we’ll see we’ll see what happens going to see you know Manis the new GM Zach Manis he’s a guy who’s been in baseball a long time is he going to make some trades is Buster going to turn this thing around as he spoke with um Buster only here recently about finding guys that are more contact hitters and changing the culture well that’s why I think they may be trading Yas because Yas is not changing the culture it’s keeping the culture the same with a guy who Strikes Out 26% of the time you already have Chapman signed who strikes out is more than that and this is why the team struggled with runners in scoring position because they didn’t have guys who make contact so you’ve already got Chapman you’re not going to change Matt Chapman at his age in the league and I don’t think you’re going to change yaz’s approach some of the younger guys you may be able to change that but you’re going to have to go out and find guys that make contact so we’ll see what the Giants do but expect don’t be surprised one bit if the Giants are trading YZ because it’s the only thing that makes logical sense to me because starting him doesn’t make sense and keeping him on the team as a fourth or fifth outfielder makes no sense at all at that money look Yas probably if he was a free agent he probably wouldn’t have got more than maybe a two-year $10 million deal you know 5 million a year uh that’s probably what he he he could have got on on free agent maybe he stretches it to 12 million or something for two years but he’s not a nine nine and a quarter million ball player at this point in his career all right guys thanks for watching this please comment below what you think of this video let me know your thoughts tell me if uh you agree disagree I’m out to lunch or you know I
