this one interesting and it is all the way out in Palm Springs where both of these teams won on the neutral floor again St Mary’s jackhammered USC in the first game up on the floor shocking I believe Jeff Nao the second half I’ll double check this I believe the second half began something like 23-2 for St Mary’s to blow out USC Southern Cal uh where Eric muselman now is okay Arizona state in the night game got quite a battle from New Mexico they made their free throws Jeff at one point they had made 17 out of 20 free throws in the second half before they missed a couple late but Arizona State made their free throws one a three-point game over New Mexico that was the last game of the night last night game got over right around 13 a.m. eastern time something like that all right these teams come back tonight playing in Palm Springs uh this evening and St Mary’s is a six-point favorite the total is 143 in this game some opening thoughts here Jeff Nao opening thought here on this matchup with St Mary’s and Arizona state two teams that I’m a big fan of I I’ve always liked St Mary’s Randy Bennett they play that drop coverage you know how State I think can navigated though Aver State’s been impressive this start of the season I I think we should give Bob hurle a little credit is is uh Brothers a buffoon and really good coach but a buffoon early the brothers done a nice job so far I think this is one of the big surprises uh you know in six seven games in they’ve been really impressive uh beating Some solid teams you know took Gonzaga to the Woodshed this sanon gu is really good uh the 65 freshman out of Vermont plays out of Vermont really good I mean he’s dropped uh 20 or more and two out of four games been really impressive this seemed a little high to me I think this game seems closed I don’t obviously after last night we we’d figure St Mary is going to get a little bit tougher of a test here uh and I think Arizona State can navigate that the drop coverage that Ben it will throw out there I lean to Arizona State how can you not play them right now they’re playing well uh Corby Craig I’m just looking at the play-by-play last night St Mary’s led by 11 at the half 3221 and then at one point uh LED where is it um 63 to 20 or 63 to 28 yes so whatever that math is 31-7 to start the second half 31-7 I believe so St Mary’s blew it open again Arizona State won a much tighter game uh Jihad the outside shooter made a couple of big shots any thoughts on sundevils St Mary’s and maybe the total there the 143 total on the neutral floor yeah I think this is what happens when you when you have a tough offseason like Arizona State kind of talked about this in like all of their pressors is all offseason they they wanted to fight and and battle against everybody they possibly could they played Duke in a a scrim that was like a pretty public that they got absolutely annihilated they knew that they had issues and and they said hey the the best way to solve issues is is play a tough preseason because we’re not going to make it an easy uh start of the Season either Santa clar great basketball team great program Grand Canyon again St Thomas isn’t a fun team to play against they’re not great but like new off D2 kind of weird team to try to figure out so it’s like playing ma calply new coach uh really tough to figure out from a coaching standpoint and New Mexico like one of the better programs there are so this Arizona State team I mean through what seven games has to have one of the most unique strength of schedules there’s been St Mary’s another as Jeff talked about they play this drop coverage for a lot of teams this is a tough coaching matchup try to figure out what we can do to beat this drop coverage but if there’s a coach that I believe in more than anybody at this current moment like Bobby Hurley has proven it now six times like they haven’t really had an easy game from a coaching standpoint yes some of these games are just out talented outclass but they’re putting on coaching masterminds here so it would be Arizona State for me U at six I know that St Mary’s open four so St Mary is taking money three bucket seems like too much I agree with Jeff it’s going to be a close game um the 143 is down to 140 so it’s just it’s trending towards a close game and in a close game I think Arizona State makes the right coaching adjustments to get this to uh to a competitive one and get you home with a plus six it’s pretty unbelievable real quick back to that game with USC last night at the 1146 Mark of the first half USC had 15 points they scored 21 points over the final 35 minutes or 30 minutes of the game that’s that’s unbelievable I mean if you’re Eric musman that’s got to be your most pathetic performance ever um you know this team is is is is a work in progress but that’s pathetic that is insane and again they guard every year uh a austa marchalonis the son of shirona marchalonis remember the NBA star is one of the stars on St Mary’s he’s averaging six assists a game it’s going to be a fun game late tonight after all the Black Friday Mayhem is over after you’ve watched a lot of Hoops you’ve watched the Chiefs kill the Raiders which will likely happen shout out to our NFL show with Jared Smith and Las Vegas Chris and Steve Fez get their handicap of that Chiefs Raiders game if you want off the BET us NFL show look at
