this was a game where Miami LED for the majority of the contest I mean Ralph and I talked about this in the preview we thought there was almost no chance that Miami could pull this off and yet there they were like three minutes away from from getting it done and and I guess hitting this uh Arkansas with yet another black spot to start the caliper era but Connor what did you see out of this contest yeah the issue with Arkansas and it was it was it was more prevalent I think in the first half uh than it was necessarily uh in the second half although it was pretty prevalent in the second half too was just that they like there are so many unforced errors with this Razer backs team when they play on offense like to have you know they only had 11 turnovers right that’s a good number only three of them were steals you mentioning that one thing that sticks out to me like I believe it was in the second half where Arkansas just scored a basket DJ Wagner gets a steal on the inbounds and lobs it up for theier and throws it like three over his head it’s those types of mistakes to where it’s like what is going on with this team there’s so much more Talent than than the way that it looks like if you if you just look at this team on paper the amount of former McDonald’s all-americans the amount of guys who were uh at one point like even think of someone like Trevon Brazil Who before his ACL tear was a projected first round draft pick like this this roster is just dotted with dudes who have pedigree to some degree whether that’s coming out of high school or whether it’s in NBA circles and you watch watch them and it’s like I mean Boogie Flan’s a killer I would go to war with him any day I think he’s he’s and I’m glad they’re starting to defer to him and Theo to a lesser extent is the the two best players on this team but like you’re saying it’s just those little things that compound and keep them from really I mean they they trailed I think for all parts of this game until there were two minutes left 225 left in the second half was Miami’s last lead um in Arkansas took the lead from that and never let it go but yeah it’s this is not a Miami team that Arkansas should be struggling with like they they lost at home to Charleston Southern and I get it was without Nigel pack but still Charleston Southern is a it’s a big south bottom dweller who sort of tops who’s topped out at 14 wins for the past like five or six years uh it’s this Miami team can’t guard anybody and the fact that it took Arkansas that long to assert its will when it has more athleticism theoretically more physicality and when it just has is I would say it’s a different league in terms of talent of this roster uh but was there anything else you noticed that either Arkansas did or didn’t do that I guess still has you maybe sounding alarm bells or or even on the other side is there anything positive you would take away from this if you’re an Arkansas fan um so here’s a negative and it’s going to sound weird because of of the line you you can’t have big Z just be a player that settles for jumpers I’m sorry like if if if he’s that big and that skilled and he’s just a stretch big for you he took one shot inside the three-point Arc MH like you’re you’re not fully utilizing what he can do because what we saw at Kentucky last year with big Z was a guy who had the potential to assert his will at times especially against this Miami front line yeah yeah yeah um or teams with similar front lines to this Miami front line who could pass the ball out of the post he only had one assist in this game uh and I get it like you know this is what second game coming off the bench he might be just trying to get used to a new role um but like to me he was just so misutilization get it like he went three or four from three four or five from the floor so like it’s not like it hurt them from a shooting perspective MH but because you have him then out on the perimeter he only gets two boards MH yeah going off of that I think it’s it’s pretty Stark when you see like theoretically again on paper the advantage Arkansas has in the front Court just with ad do with Trevon Brazil with big Z I mean even someone like Carter KNX who’s a high flyer theier as well can get you some boards the rebounding battle was even here 33 a piece and as far as like you you even look more specifically Miami had eight offensive rebounds Arkansas had nine offensive rebounds like they were almost split dead even to where it wasn’t it wasn’t even as if Arkansas extended possessions by getting to the offensive glass and I thought it was odd that like when they went to the interior when they when they ran even just high ball screens or looked to get the the big men involved um like Trevon Brazil was getting open around the basket they just didn’t they didn’t go to him a ton and I I think visich still has that skill as well um yeah it is really weird to see like Arkansas only outscored Miami 36 to3 with points in the paint and to me maybe it’s a team that still is struggling to find its ID I don’t even know if it’s struggling to find its identity just because like theier has been so good this year and Boogie fland has been so good I just want if like maybe they’re still trying to figure out which of what’s what’s the right front Court pairing who’s going to give them the best blend of Versatility have some gravity on on the roll coming off screens um and who’s going to control the glass as well and cuz you’re you’re looking at this to me still Jonas Adu I’m not entirely sure where he’s at healthwise but he’s he played 12 minutes this game Brazil’s playing 19 and visit with with 13 like they’re all all three of these guys are just getting sprinkled in here and there and I wonder if keeping any of them for from getting into any sort of Rhythm um that would allow them to take advantage of the size the strength the athleticism Advantage yeah I mean I think I think uh with Brazil he he played a decent amount of minutes in his first game back um but against it was Mar it was Maryland Eastern Shore he only played Seven against Illinois um went I think two of two from the floor wasn’t really a big factor play playing 19 getting the start in playing 19 to me is like okay this is his first real game back so I’m not going to judge him I think too much in that respect Adu as well this is only his second game back he played 11 minutes against Illinois 12 minutes in this game um so I’m not GNA I think the front Court will hopefully figure its way out to me to me the the one pos I mean other than the win obviously the one positive is that John El Davis has started to string together a couple of good games um Boogie fland obviously at the end of that game kind of took over and and put the game away for for Arkansas when they needed someone desperately to do that uh Tero contributed well despite not shooting the ball well MH um and like DJ Wagner is DJ Wagner like yeah I mean he has some nice moments and some other times where well he didn’t have a he only had one turnover in this game five assists like he only had one turnover he he was shot 50% at every level basically it’s just like he’s not I think we’re past the point at this point where DJ Wagner is like a to me DJ Wagner is in a very similar spot to where like uh tyres Proctor was last year where it’s like okay we’re starting to see the fact that he’s not like a ceiling elevator mhm um but he can be a really good guard yeah I think that’s that’s a fair assessment of him for sure yeah like like you’re saying it’s not all negative for Arkansas I still would like to see them do a little bit more defensively I thought they going back to whether it’s the rebounding or the interior presence I thought they gave up too many dunks to Mi Miami um whether it was it was really Matthew Cleveland who was playing Above the Rim um I I thought that I didn’t like how how often they let Miami get into the paint with their guards um especially with with some of these undersized guys like pack who wants to shoot pullup jumpers and he went ahead and I think he I believe he shot six for nine from two-point range as well so to me I think that the defense I know what the number say on Kim pom as a top 25 defense I didn’t really think they looked like that I thought they were a little susceptible in their ball screen coverages at the same time I mean it is still a road win against a power conference opponent it is still battling back and the biggest highlight to me is still fland I know we’ve talked about him a little bit you mentioned him icing the game I think he’s he’s just so gifted when it comes to creating offense when it comes to shooting pull-up jumpers every time he shoots the ball I think it’s going in he’s got a pure shot I I love watching him play basketball and I think uh if there’s any doubt that he could because I believe he slid maybe it was I want to say he slid down to the 20s and the on three rankings maybe 247 as well but I think he’s pretty clearly a lottery pick pick like he’s been one of the best freshman this year yeah yeah and I think it’s um it’s almost poetic because Arkansas looked so rough in this game and let’s be clear this is a quadrant 3 Road game so maybe I’m sugarcoating it a little too much like it was Arkansas has had they play they haven’t played a quadrant 2 game theyve played two Quadrant One games lost both of them they played three quadrant 3 games and they almost lost one of them and there are still a lot of things especially on the offensive end that need to get cleaned up so I’m going to preface all of that it is almost poetic that in the biggest moments of the games yesterday Arkansas who everyone is pushing the alarm bells on found a guy that they could give the ball to to get a bucket and Kentucky couldn’t oh now that that is Aon is a better team but but but Arkansas just kind of like when when they’re off wasn’t working it became give the ball to Boogie and it worked and granted they’re playing Miami uh and I just think that’s poetic like ky’s clearly far away the better team I think their X’s and O’s are much better um but I think for one night only the uh the calip Perry respector have have a w and and the people who have been banging the drum for Mark Pope do not um but I’m not taking like after Maryland Eastern Shore I know guy was like oh they’re going to be they should be favored against Illinois and I was like no not really like it’s Marland sh they just they put a full game together that’s the only game this season they put a full game together like this game still was not a full game they were down almost they were down 10 or almost 10 at the half like it’s it’s there are a lot of red flags with this stkansas team but I think having a guy like Boogie fland with a winner or someone who has been a winner in John L Davis and and a guy like a dude who can also put up a lot of points get rebounds um having all of that in the back court I think is a benefit to this Arkansas Team where if you if you wanted a glimpse of like oh they will turn it on and at least be a top five to six team in the SEC which that’s a pretty damn good place to be uh I think that’s the that’s the glimmer of hope is that like the the those three with DJ Wagner you know playing like that secondary point guard alongside boogy fland um are going to be really tough to stop once they get going all at the same time it’s just those it’s just those unforced errors that they continue to have that’s really what’s holding this offense back I think that’s a great way to tie a bow on all of this with with this Arkansas Team you still see the potential with the roster it’s just about getting the pieces to start jelling a little bit more to get some stuff cleaned up on the defensive end and yeah I love that angle of for C cal cal apologist at least had themselves a night so whatever
