he’s done it one chance one goal D well done 500th game at the Emirates Stadium it feels like a big win massive um yeah what a night we obviously new uh new new manager for Man United they’ve looked really good their last couple games so we knew it’ be a test um but we stuck to our game plan stuck to what we knew um and in the end you know I think we could have had three or four but but it was a top performance all around I think it it’s also what’s called being cornered you cornered them these set pieces is incredible yeah you have to believe in your process you know um we believe in our process you know we we keep at it all the time you know we never get bored when you go out for a corner it’s a chance to score a goal you know it’s not it’s not chance to relax and chill um so to score again on both of them I know nio be buzzing and uh yeah I’m I’m so happy for the boys as well well done Nicholas you’re there in terms of the delivery as well how much are you working on that more than normal uh it’s really tough cuz of the game schedule it’s hard it’s more just seeing Clips to be honest with you I know I know what I need to do and I know the weight of the ball I need to put in whether it’s front or back um so yeah it’s just repetition when I got the chance but if not it’s just seeing where I can improve and also depends on the opposition you know um yeah are putting a few good Bulls tonight could have had a couple of assists but to get one I was happy with that and what does this result mean we’re seeing a momentum aren’t we coming coming back yeah for sure I think when you have a when you have a B in the league you get you get written off you know um and you know we stuck together as a group we knew that that wasn’t the case the the the runner results we had weren’t good enough but we got together as a group and we knew we could be doing better and now we’re starting to see a turn of that which is a real positive the other bit of good news Liverpool Drew tonight they dropped points so you’ve closed that Gap this in that sense as well must feel good yeah it’s good look people get carried away with with the title talk I was involved in my first one last year and you just need to be in and around it by February time you know I think too early to be calling what’s going on liver drop points you know what are they still 10 above 9 oh so it’s closer but look still a long way to go we’ll keep believing in ourself and yeah see what happens ja well done player of the match as well congratulations thank you it was slightly better than he thought at the top but he’s uh he’s right he’s not looking at that until February interesting to hear him talking about the clips and repetition in terms of the delivery Tony Arsenal knew they got one hell of a player when they bought him from West Ham but perhaps this set piece delivery went a little bit under the radar didn’t it it’s it’s fabulous is it and on the other side theyve both got fantastic delivery uh there’s been a real sea change for me uh tide change with the um the amount of times the referees don’t give any decisions and it’s looks like Arsenal really capitalizing on it you know you used to go forward and the SL like the bars the push on the goalkeeper on the player referee was blowing straight away and free kick away you go but seems like they’re letting everything go and it’s a freefor all but that’s taking nothing away from the delivery from from Delan rice he must be working every night he’s he’s putting it on a Sixpence is he well someone spotted something somewhere because I remember on our show last January when they went to that um Dubai Midsummer camp and Declan rice hadn’t taken any set plays for Arsenal they came back he was taking them all we’ve done some digging in his West Ham career in the Premier League over 200 games he only took 19 corners and now he’s taken over 90 for Arsenal so someone spotted something somewhere cuz this this wasn’t happening when he signed for Arsenal I think what it is is he’s always been very good with his dead ball kicks um but the problem is he’s such a big tall guy that you actually need him in the middle as well um and there’s that fine balance whether you sort of negate his height for the quality of set piece Arsenal have got enough big bodies anyway in there so it’s fine to to uh to go and let him take the corners and it’s all right having all these movements all these blocks as Tony’s referred to but if you haven’t got the the delivery then you know it stops at source doesn’t it and I think dlan rice is has got one hell of a delivery yeah it’s so consistent isn’t it I mean we saw that for the for the first goal it it’s on a Sixpence every time every time you said about it like I say it must be practicing and and and it’s the little guys are scoring it don’t matter if the deliver is that good it don’t matter if you’re Timber little push at the near post he’s got away with it inflicted in you know you see him they all run from the back post I’d be as a defensive coach if I was working with a Manu or another club against the Arsenal you kind of going right how are we going to reflect this cuz they’re so good at it they’re so good they all move to that near post and uh it’s a it’s a it’s a free-for all at the near post I I would I think actually spin it around and try to block them at the back post and to stop them moving forward and I don’t know how you do that see little touch by timas pushed him out of the way little flick into the goal referees are not blowing this stuff up now but I’m not complaining don’t don’t get me wrong this is brilliant it’s one thing saying how you’re going to stop it because that that goal is is very very similar to the first one they scored at West Ham I was at the game on Saturday and United have obviously seen that but watching it and trying to physically stop it are two different things exactly that exactly that I I said to Tony in the you know as we were watching the game saiding like what what what do you do there how how do you stop that when these teams are playing zonal marking there’s only certain amount of players in certain zones you you you don’t flood it the only thing I can think of is do you revert to back to man to man do you I I mean cuz all of a sudden you’ve got five or six players there moving from one area into an area of about I don’t know 3 m squared it’s you know you’ve just and if that ball is plunked within that zone it is so difficult as I say the keeper can’t do anything it’s too flat too quick so he can’t move and then you’re just relying on your Defenders it’s really really difficult and I can bet your bottom dollar that all teams are not only watching Arsenal and thinking how do we stop there I hope we’re not playing them soon because how are we going to stop this but they’re probably also just relooking at their strategy at set pieces what can we do if that is so effective that’s won the game tonight if that is so effective we’re going to have to invest time effort money because the set peace coaches now half of the Premier League have got a set peace coach I think it’s about 11 teams now have got a dead designated set Peaks coach and it might be the way forward some people have sniggered and and laughed at it and you know in in Times Gone by but if it’s winning you points like that in tight games then there’s only one team laughing at that’s Arsenal at the moment because the numbers are incredible they’ve got more um goals from set pieces this season um than any other side and that’s 22 goals from Corners just from the start of last season if you’re going to win League titles as well you need to contribute you know and set play to still the you know third of all goals are set place you know um penalties wide three kicks and if you’re that good at them you know keep going every time that I’ve won a title we’ve we’ve chipped in the Defenders have chipped in with goals and stuff you know it’s vitally vitally important and we used to words under George more than arome but we used to work all the time on them all the time all the time because he knew how important they were and it’s evident you know arsenal were doing it now and it’s it’s brilliant to see if I was defending against against it I think you’ve got to get to the stage where you’re actually blocking them before they run in before they actually get into that zone you know keep them out of that zone you have to kind of block them I’ve seen some people they’re rugby tackling them to try to try and stop them but the referees like go go back to the referees again they’re absolutely letting everything go isn’t it fascinating because I know of one or two managers past and present in the Premier League that don’t particularly like Corners they get a corner and it’s like don’t really think we’re going to score just PL just get it and play you know go play play short and get building up again and just have it around the edge of the box and then try to they they’re not interest the ball goes out behind for a corner and it’s like they don’t want it they’re not bothered about it which is fascinating when you see how destructive they can be tonight and then certain managers have a totally opposite view on them absolutely arson minger was the same was an inter play just play ruin the manager for SP Des at Bri interested he’s got playing short corners you know that was his philosophy you know play it short play it short you see how effective when you can get it into that danger zone and you create your own luck as well because all right it wasn’t textbook from Cela but the same principle was there in the buildup to it oh Steve when you put it in with that pace in that area then eventually you’re going to get the luck I mean you could say they had bad luck on a certain occasions will’ll run through a few of their their Corners shortly and and you can see I mean it could have been four or five goals from corners and okay there was a little Ricochet but that’s what it’s all about put look at CA yeah look C is pushing in pushing in pushing in and he actually ends up scoring yeah you know he’s pushed him pushed him pushed him you know the referee’s just letting it all go it’s all going way you go they’re almost clear in that area pushing people out of that area stopping the keeper pinning the keeper pinning the keeper he’s inviting cuz you can’t get him out and challenge in so they pin the keeper and they move the Defenders around it’s brilliant and it’s it’s about how isn’t it how much you you know you can’t rugby tackle people you can’t pull their shirts you but you can sort of manipulate and it’s pushing those boundaries it’s pinning a goalkeeper without putting your arms around but just getting in his way not touching him but staying in his area and it’s just pushing the boundaries all the way and if four or five players are pushing the boundaries then all of a sudden you uh you can outnumber players we did it in the quarterfinal FA Cup 93 I always used to say we had big Andy linan I said take them inside but I went random back FL and he he basically blocked the last man of the of the protection and I went round semi quarterfinal semi-final used it every time and teams didn’t uh catch on you know it’s a great weapon you we just got clearance brought them all inside I went around the back for but got a couple of goals for us it works yeah and they got 13 Corners today yeah United didn’t get a single one and and United couldn’t really work out how to defend any of them no no and they’ll be scratching their heads and they’ll be going home and and and looking at the videos and thinking right what did we do how can we get better next time but look at some of these Steve it’s it’s quite incredible it’s right from the first one you know all of them right at the back post you see the one arm up I I guess that that either triggers the movement or it says we’re going near post but all five players all into one area and this is a huge Miss from party I mean that was probably the best chance of the whole lot so that should have been one n straight away from the other side same again happening well and every single time and I asked Tony before if you’re a Defender do you prefer defending against in swingers or out swingers and I’ve asked the question of a lot of our guests and every single person including uton he says you prefer defending against out swingers now this is one of the first teams that actually whips the ball right on top of the goalkeeper in swinger it’s a nightmare to defend 100% And You And they’re pining the goalkeepers well the goalkeepers along the league they must be absolutely terrified of that coming on top of them you know Lee Dixon spent his career defending people away from the keeper anyone that got near Dave Seaman he went right I’m going to block you I’m going his old job was to keep people away from Dave so Dave can go and deal with it yeah they’ve got about four or five people around the goalkeeper do you actually protect that and the other difficult thing Steve is that you know we’ve seen them swamp the front post but we’ve also see them all hold back and stay at the back post and then they’ll go Central and then they’ll go near post so if you’re marking you you you don’t know where they’re going to come next but one thing is for sure wherever they’re going to go they’re all going to go at the same time and that’s what makes it so difficult to defend fascinating and as we said Manchester United couldn’t defend them tonight they’ve been beaten for the first time under Ruben Amarin and here is United’s new head coach Ruben it’s your first League defeat with Manchester United what do you make of the performance T tough game we try to do our game you can see it um especially in the first half we we managed to have the ball um we we could be more aggressive but we we need some some trainings to reach that area but you feel it that we have the the structure there we control very well uh Arsenal game and you feel it in the stadium especially in the the end of the first half and then the set pieces the set pieces Changes Everything Changes the momentum was really hard then uh we try it but um was that two two set pieces we had two we didn’t score they scored then they one you know those set pieces are coming you know Arsenal is strong at that so do you praise them or do you look at your own defending uh both but we have to to to understand that they have years of of doing that even when you are here for so long you see it that Arsenal can change games like like that we try to to to defend them with the the in the space of two days to train but um it’s hard for every team to to defend the set piece of Arsenal I you know a team better at set pieces right now Arsenal’s record is is incredible yeah it’s incredible the way they they especially the way they change the games because sometimes they are not dominated um and I think that today you feel it in the game was really divide no no big opportunities and then one set pieces can can change the game and then what if Matas Steck header goes in with your set pie he it could be different then the momentum shift uh also anony uh on the on the free kick but it is what it is we have to work more and is a defeat we want to win games and we’ll try to do it in the the next game what have you learned tonight sometimes they say you learn more in defeat so what have you learn tonight about this set of players uh I learned that they are smart when we have the strategy even with one day almost like a jogging during the training but we we we find the the way to press we find the way to blck and will be better with in time you have you’ve referred to a storm is coming you’ve got Manchester City Liverpool and Tottenham coming in the next six games so what do you need to implement hopefully to be at the level you need to be for those games we have to improve in every minute we have to use every minute to try to improve and to fight for the games that’s the the only thing the only way we have and we we are here to do that and so by the time you come back here for the FA Cup in January what hopefully has improved uh set pieces that is that is important we have to be more aggressive near the the the opponent box but we have a lot to improve in in in all the areas in the team thank you very much thank you yes of course they have a rematch in the FA Cup uh third round in January he said it could have been different if theck had scored we touched on it on the full-time whistle I mean it it was a very good save from from David ryer wasn’t there Tony there was there was signs there I think they started a game very very compact he’s got his style of play um they were much more organized and I think he stick to his philosophy and get the team in good shape that’s a great head and it’s a great save unbelievable save very athletic I’m not sure what Dave Seaman would say about it maybe Dave would probably say that he should have been over there anyway and caught it but it was a nice one for the cameras but uh yeah listen taking nothing away from the keeper that’s a magnificent save great Ed by the way it could have changed the game it was the ball was almost going behind dck there so losing a little bit of power moving backwards so he did well to to get the power the direction really good save as you say could have been a change of of of game if that had happened but um Arsenal would just a little bit too powerful obviously very good at set pieces in the end and and probably ran out deserved winners yeah let’s get a quick off reaction here is the scorer of that first set P’s first Arsenal goal yurian Timber are you surprised at how difficult Manchester United found it dealing with your Corners because they knew it was coming but it just seems that you’re unstoppable I’m not surprised they’re not the first one I think that they find it tough to defend our corners but um yeah we got to keep coming every every time like this um if I hear the feedback from the boys every time they say it’s really hard to defend us so that’s a good sign um and we just got to keep going like this and you mentioned keep going um we know that um Liverpool have dropped points tonight you’ve made a bit of ground up on them so you’re still very much in this title race yeah of course but we just got to keep Focus focusing on ourselves win our games and from there we’ll see what happens that’s really interesting Tony when they go forward and get a corner now I mean you actually said when we were watching the game Michael it’s almost almost like a penalty I mean the belief the belief they’ve got when they go forward feeling they’re going to score yeah fear regarding to the opposition which is great isn’t it you know you feel like you’re going to score every time I did early days better than my senior Days Later days I was a bit scared going forward and stuff I left it to the other guys but no uh they they believe it they got the belief in there he’s been great since he’s come in you know he had a horrific season last year with injury and stuff but he’s com in and he’s on fire himself linking up on the on the right hand side and deserved his goal and like I say they they they’re frightened to death at opponents now absolutely frightened to death they’re worth a goal every time and it’ll be fascinating to see what the next setpiece produces won’t it they won’t continue doing this they might bring it out for certain games but I’m sure the setpiece coach will already be going to bed tonight thinking right we’ve really nailed but everybody’s been watching people will try who haven’t even played this week they’re the next to play them on Sunday they’ll be going into that game thinking how do we stop this they’ll be practicing long and hard on how to and then it’s you know for you to actually then switch it up and and do something else that’s equally effective so they’ve got a lot of teams on the back foot mentally already now Steve and uh and it’ll be fascinating to see in the weeks to come if they can freshen it up a bit and be as successful with a with a different routine what a 10 days it’s been in all competitions four wins in a row goals Galore as well for their manager Mel Etta muel congratulations it felt like a pretty even first half but then you really seemed to step it up in the second half yes we did certainly did a special day it’s a 500 games in this incredible Stadium we want to celebrate against a team that obviously we have a lot of history so incredible the way we responded the we play the second half the goals with the scores go two set pieces with the score from open Play many more uh kept the clean sheet I’m very happy because we lost two massive players for us in the backline jaku comes in Alex comes in the team is still responding so really pleased with everything what did you say at halim what did you do to change the way that the game was going well we have to adjust one or two things in the defensive part what they were doing and then yeah especially the simple things to do better we gave too many simple we find a lot of advantages and give the ball away so we never got that dominance and and attack the spaces and and be able to get together together so we can counter press them so we did that much better in the second half the game open up a little bit we were again a lot of balls in the final third and we looked a real threat you mentioned those changes that you had to make at the back how satisfying is it then that you restricted Manchester United to almost nothing yeah it’s very good uh well at the end after they throwing we give them that free kick that they could have scored and then yeah you need someone like David to make the save I think it was Tel at the time anyway but uh very pleased honestly it’s a joy to play in this stadium with that energy something incredible we know all about your setpiece danger now but is that the most effective you think you’ve been from them in a game under you well one of the best we could have score more but it was the same a few times this season so uh very pleased with that you know that the team has to have the capacity to score from many different situation many different phases and today we could have score an open Play we could have score a short count we could have score in a stable buildups we did at the end with two set piece great first time that you’ve won three League games in a row this season so a bit of consistency now and Liverpool have dropped points so it’s getting interesting yes obviously we have to do our business we have to continue to play at the level that we are playing and continue to win matches and what the rest they do let’s see just finally congratulations first Arsenal manager to win four League games in a row against Manchester United Okay thank you so much not sure that stat was on his radar today but those four wins in a row in all competitions in 10 days you can feel a bit of momentum again about Arsenal absolutely and like we said earlier about the corners you have to get the corners you know I think Arsenal got 14 corners and manu’s got none so the the momentum was there with the Arsenal and they were pushing pushing to get the corners in the first base so yeah four games on the Trot uh sorry three games on the Trot now got have been few injuries you come back and uh and it didn’t seem to matter today to be honest with you Ki we all come in and did a fairly decent job for us man united were just kind of playing for the draw I thought but um yeah on on look like we’ve turned a corner it does and that Gap at the top of the table is suddenly seven points that’s because
