[Music] [Music] hello and welcome back to up the Villa this is our match preview for Aston Villa V brenford if you are new to the channel make sure you are subscribing we are so close to 22,000 stuck with us which is brilliant the comments are great and yeah it’s just doing really well so I want to thank everybody who’s been tuning in probably tuning in to hear me having a little moan but we all like a little moan from time to time don’t we so you there something a little bit different our general match previews are really in depth on the opposition brenford we pick him apart Etc but I’m I’m fed up talking about tactics and Villa and and what they can do what we can do Etc so we will do a little bit but we’re not going too in depth but I really want to get the thoughts of villa fans so in our community I asked Villa fans to share their thoughts on how they feel feeling so I’ve picked around 10 that we’ll go through and I’ve brought back this little bad boy we haven’t seen for a while and I kind of feel like when I put this down we haven’t really done as good so I’m bringing it back the clipboard I going to start the episode off by mentioning a couple of things that I do not want to see on Wednesday let’s go I don’t want to see us conceding early I think that’s been a problem especially at home in some games we’ve we’ve gone one down we’re having to fight back game plans are different from opposition teams so I don’t want to see an early goal I don’t want to see UMO tearing down on our goal I don’t want to see whis tearing down on our goal and I don’t want to see Shard tearing down on our goal and that is one way in which brenford can hurt us in this game and it’s an all too familiar site of players running with the ball from our halfway line and just tearing us to apart on transition and I do not want to see that on Wednesday so if we play a high line it’s got to be a little bit deeper and that’s something I don’t want to see I also don’t want to see Robin alson being put under pressure by trying to play out from the back Emmy Martinez has got a fr chat in his finger so it looks like he’s going to be out for some time so with Olen in goal that usually is a lot of a lot of trepidation is that the word with olon in Coal there’s a lot of worry with Olen in goal and I think sometimes it’s Justified with the amount of goals that he concedes but I think we’ve got to be clever and we’ve got to think about what Olson’s strengths are Olen is a pretty decent shot stopper normally when Olson plays he faces far too many shots in the first place so that goes back to defending shop stopping shots not allowing the opposition to have clean shots at Olen because I think any goalkeeper if they keep getting the amount of shots that Olen faces are going to concede goals but I think if Olen can’t play out from the back as good as Martinez we need a subtle tweak there because we can go slightly longer and I think maybe in this game that might be something that actually works in our favor because we’ve been having problems with playing out from the back with Emmy Martinez with P Torres with Luca deine with Matty cash with cona and I feel like with Robin olon in goal the crowd are already going to feel a little bit of like ANS they’re going to be a little bit on edge when he gets the ball in those tight AAS because we do play risky playing eff for the back football we do roll it across our own goal line and I feel like if Olson’s been made to do that which isn’t his strength then we need to tweak what we’re going to be doing when we’re playing out from the back teams are starting to press us a lot more as well and starting to put us under more pressure so that’s just a general tactic of what’s Happening anyway and then you put a goalkeeper that’s not great at playing that from the back in that mix anyway you it’s a recipe for disaster so there needs to be a subtle tweak with that I don’t want us to allow space on transition I don’t want us to allow attacks off our own set pieces I don’t want to allow brenford to attack off kickoff we know how much they’re scoring from kickoffs I don’t want us to allow and bro to be one V one I don’t want us to allow and and we said to be 2v2 in our own box so those are all some things that I really don’t want to happen against brenford and things that I don’t want to see against brenford I would prefer if we could have a solid ref performance because I feel like at Villa par this season we’ve had some shocking refs I want us to be flexible with our tactics and that toys in with subtle tweaks to Robin Olsen I want us to be dynamic have pace and have control control but also remain calm I want us to stick with the team at all costs that goes to all of the fans in the stadium I want us to use watkins’s strength of running him behind I think their back four can be got at if Rogers plays he needs to hold it up and dribble well need to have fight belief and desire and we need to counteract what Thomas Frank is going to do so those are all some of the thoughts that are in head going into this game and I think counteracting what Thomas Frank will want to do is now starting to think about what what are opposition teams wanting to do against Aston Villa it’s okay looking at uh at at Villa and what we’ve got to do but what are teams trying to do against us well brenford don’t want the ball they’re not a possession based team they want to play on transition and they want to hurt us quickly so with villain knowing this we could afford to allow brenford to have a little bit of the ball let them play a little bit let’s catch them out let’s hit them on transition because if it’s just Villa with the ball for 90 minutes and the way in which we’re making mistakes it’s inevitable that they are going to hit us on transition and they are going to hurt us and one of the big thing that’s happening to Villa this season is that we are limiting teams to not that many chances but what’s happening is these teams are clinical with their goals that they are scoring against us and opposing us with massive problems so we’ve really got to make sure that we look after the ball and we just maybe allow them to have a little bit of the ball and hit them on transition and play them at their own game because we know what they’re going to try and do so we have the counteract it I think another little subtle tweak that I think could possibly happen in this game and I’ve already mentioned it with aome is that we go a little bit longer you know I’m not saying we’re playing Stoke Tony pis Route One football but we’re being clever with the way in which we work the ball and hit the channels and find certain players and we just tweak what we’re doing at home I think this is probably one of my biggest frustrations at the minute is that we’re not tweaking what we do and I think it’s vitally important that we’re able to do that what happens in football is the phrase must win gets branded around quite a lot and I feel like a must win is is’s a very I don’t I don’t think you can say that really because you have to earn the right to win a game of football it doesn’t matter whether it’s Southampton on Saturday whether it’s Arsenal whether it’s chel you have to earn the right to win that game we can’t just rock up at Villa Park and expect to win this game because we perceive the opposition to be inferior to what we are no team in the Premier League are absolutely shocking they on their day can all play good football they’ve all got decent players that can hurt teams so we have to bring our aame and play the best version of ourself to win this game of football because brenford are a very good football team Thomas Frank is an unbelievable coach he’s so underrated I think he’s one of the best coaches in the Premier League with Marco Silva he’s doing a fantastic job at brenford what he’s done at brenford to stabilize them and to push them and to strive for excellence and to recruit well is Sensational he’s got a no excuse culture as well they’re signed a striker who’s injured no problem we’ll play weisa we’ll play weisa through the middle he’s Dynamic he’s fresh he’s got an approach he can play five at the back he can play four at the back he gets the best out of every every player he gets the every ounce of potential out of any player he’s really good at bringing youth through he’s a really good manager and this is a very difficult game for Villa brenford at home are one of the best teams in the Premier League at home their home record this season is fantastic away record they haven’t won a game all season now let’s not be that team let’s not be that team at home on Wednesday that give them their first Victory because they will pose Us big problems if we aren’t astute in what we are doing so I’m going to go to the images that I found as some of the key strengths and some of the images that would and do worry me about how they play and how they can hurt Aston Villa so a couple of the main areas pot is brilliant he’s brilliant going forward they arrive in the boxing numbers cutbacks they’ve got structure with a two that can that can sit a little bit they have also got wi out wide whether it’s with Shard whether it’s with umrao they’ve got the two that holding there balls that go in behind and then they get the runners of uo Visa so we’ve really got to be really careful you can see that Visa this season is in absolutely centilating form he’s bagging goals he’s playing really well we can see here this is what I’m talking about I do not want to see this happening on Wednesday with a boring behind Visa running through we’re scrambling around you know they’ve got this Playbook that they can do against teams and they’ve shown that they can do this against teams this season in the Premier League so this is one of our biggest weaknesses and we’ve got to make sure that this does not happen so by saying how does it not happen pressure on the ball from Midfield it’s not about whether it’s this player’s fault or this player’s fault it’s about what’s happening before it gets to this phase who’s put this ball in behind we’ve got to make sure that we are shutting down the player whether it’s Dam’s guard who’s putting that ball in and making sure that that Ball’s not going in behind whether it’s Amo so against Spurs we’ve got hold up from Amo who’s able to knock it out wide and bro really good mentioned that 2v2 we would I’d like another Defender to be in an around there because brenford from what I’ve seen in this scenario take their chances if from bro’s 1 V one or Visa’s 1 V1 and when I spoke about earlier not allowing the 2v2 in the Box this is what I’m talking about because and bro’s movement to go peel off the volley it’s fantastic we’ve got to make sure that we are touch tight and we are being really strong in the challenge as well we’ve got another one through here this can’t happen you cannot allow um bro this amount of space room to put a ball across the box to take a strike you’re just asking for trouble if you’re getting in that scenario um again we’ve got little through ball that’s gone through there as well you need to have pressure on this player to allow it they’ve got an overload on the opposite side as well so they commit they’re fluid and V is just banging in goals like I’ve mentioned already as well so those are some of the areas that I think we’ve got to really watch out for there patterns that I think are goals that we concede so we’ve got to make sure that we are better in those scenarios as well so we’ll go to the Tactical pad we’ll have a quick little look then so I think they’re going to go with yarmuk in the middle because they had an injury in their last game so I feel like he may come in it’s a 433 and what generally happens away from home sometimes it can become quite narrow in there so when they’re away from home it’s it’s narrow it’s compact some of the times that they’re playing at home especially that it’s more expansive there’s more width but generally they always play with the two in the middle and then Dam’s guard can be the one that can move around in those areas Luis Potter will be the one that will be bombing on on the left hand side as well sometimes he can play left wing Berg can play on the opposite side as well generally the right back’s not the one that’s going to be pushing on and getting forward Shard was fantastic against Leicester he operates in this area as as well with Potter getting forward and then the two midfielders the Jensen where it’s yarmuk those are the ones that are offering the control um they’ve got really good partnership they they know what they’re all about so it’s important that we are winning that Midfield battle but we’re also getting tight to the players that are going to be out wide as well from a villa point of view the lineup could be absolutely anything but for me in this game if we’re going to go a little bit longer I would like to see Duran start I think his hold up could be really key in this I agree I feel like Rogers may need a little bit of a break out the team I think D Matson could be a good threat on that left hand side Kamar I think has to start all games Villa if Ona’s fit I’d go with Onana with Kamar if not I would go with Barkley I think Tans might need to come out the team as well my back four I think I’m comfortable with D power cona cash I think we can’t keep ripping it up we can’t keep changing I think if we are going to play out from the back against brenford then we need continuity there we can’t keep chopping and changing we’re already going to have one big massive change with Aon being in goal we then can’t go with let’s make some more changes at the back it’s just it’s just too much so I think that’s where I’m at with the back I think Bailey starts I think Duran starts for me so those are some of the players that I would start so Villa fans let me know your thoughts on who you would have start right so let’s go to some of the thoughts from Villa fans then um I don’t know how I’m going to do I think I might just read them out and then offer my thoughts on some of them might not don’t know depends right let’s go for it then so we’ve got p i o o t r r 4509 let’s put player play players that are in form change only if match load is too high Liverpool does not change we can rest some players against Southampton it’s been some time since I was feeling that exhausted after our games and I think this is a good point about when we when we’re getting spoken about with yeah Champions League the load is different that’s why Villa have dropped off and I can understand it to an extent but I do think that like I’ve already mentioned on a couple of episodes that Liverpool played the same front line against Man City and Real Madrid so Villa chopping and changing you don’t you don’t really see like Liverpool doing it and I’m not maybe they got the experience of of of Europe and we don’t so but yeah I I do get the the feeling of of exhausted as well to be fair I mean it’s not being the greatest as it so and by the way some of these YouTube names I have no idea what they mean so uh we’ve got lt’s avfc we are all feeling your frustration and pain bro we need something to change and quickly I would agree with that Jay Villa total contrast from last season seems to be no change of tactics from game to game used to set up in response to our opposition and now we set up to day put no substitutions till later minutes when it’s too late very lost I feel the dressing room has been lost the last comment is a big one right so it is it is a contrast from last season we have lost Pace I think we can all see that um the tactics element of it of changing on opposition I touched on that this week as well about it feels like we are trying to just do our way and play our way I think that’s that’s clear to see substitutions I think are sometimes slightly pre-planned I think the Duran one is generally pre-planned on the 60th minute you’ll always see Duran coming on we’ve seen some comments about leadership as well on the pitch and I don’t think it helps when your Captain’s coming off I think I can understand the captain coming off because he’s not playing well and that’s fine but in football you rarely want your captain coming off I think that might be a problem when mcin comes off in games that that leadership that that sort of it’s just not a great Vibe is it um very lost I feel the dressing room has been I don’t personally feel the dressing room has been lost at all I just think they are I I think they’re in a bit of a malaise and I think sometimes something fresh needs to happen now whether that’s someone starting that’s someone different whether it’s something tactically I think we’re just crying out for something a little bit different um I don’t doubt that they’re all fighting for Emer because none of them not one of them should be feeling like they’re going to down tools for this manager because this manager has given them so much within that their coaching within Champions League football so I don’t personally think the dressing room has been lost to be honest um let me just take that off so I can put me coding um right so next one then is we as fans don’t want to let one month of bad results detach detract from everything great that’s happened over the past 24 months the Premier League we have lost our tough away fixtures we need to relax trust our Elite manager and show them all the confidence and support we muster would like to see Mings as one of the center backs for sure to sh us up a little bit um yeah I think context Paul is is really good we we have been brilliant we have been great we must stick with the team uh as for Mings I personally feel like we will stick with power Torres um I think he’s crucial to the way in which that we build and the way in which that we play and I honestly feel like if you take him out this team which is what happens generally um before this big blip without po Torres our record wasn’t the best anyway so I think I think collectively defensively it needs to improve so I’m in the camp of definitely sticking with with pal Kevin’s put basically back to basic proper defending add Pace up top Matson on the left wing till Ramsey’s back keep with Bailey on the right wing mcin behind Watkins that’s for starters own try and take an early lead front foot football that’s generally pretty much what I’ve mentioned in this episode to be fair I’ve put Matson on the left I think that’s um a good comment mate uh Tim has put the players haven’t gone bad overnight they seem to be lacking something mentally maybe they need oh this is a great one maybe they need a night off a few beers maybe a 90s Weekender at Butlins together to bring back the team mentality um yeah I can’t imagine can’t imagine Duran at Butlins um but yeah that that’s a great one so Jed has put I feel that we need to play different systems and not doing the same system tactic every game as teams are finding it easy to find us out and that’s down to the players and emry to work that out together I feel like the next two games will Define our season either a team which can get back into European places or a team which is lower the mid-table yeah it’s a big week mate I think I think we can’t afford to lose any of those games uh Danny has put a start with Basics first the hunger intensity and want and most of all show some leadership demand from each other what happened to The Villa that goes a goal down and comes back and wins it as for unai he’s playing the same broken record game after game hoping for a spark it isn’t happening tweak it up mate mate I think recruitment last summer needs to have a chat about to um yeah I think I I agree with quite a lot of it um I think that we do need to show more intensity I think we need to press more I think the recruitment I think that was just I think it was just a a transfer window disaster PSR wise I think we were under so much Financial constraints that we had to abide by that it just wasn’t a great window was it um you know I I said it at the time I said it when diu was linked away and I remember at the time everybody was like sell him get rid of him get rid of him and I remember being like you can’t you can’t sell a player that you’ve just signed for one year um and I remember that I rated him I remember that I was fighting his corner and that is a big one losing someone like diu with his pace and not replacing you know you you you take into consideration that when we signed theb he was one of and if you look at his metrics still he’s at the very highest level of everything that we need and when we signed him he was that sort of of he was that golden gem that was going to transform us and you lose that and replace him with jayen it’s night and day it’s night and day and and I’m not sure whether there’s funds for January I I doubt it I doubt much will happen in January um so I think it’s just where we are we’ve we’ve got champions league and we’ve we’ve been punished uh Marcus put teams of figures out how play against us just like we did last teams last season a tweak here and a tweak there to make us a little bit less predictable and we’ll be up and running again nothing to get too despondent about I don’t think so at the minute I think we are four points off fourth so for me I said it in the summer any form of European football I will take this season and I still stick by that this is a big week to get some points I don’t think it’s I don’t think I’m looking at it thinking oh it’s it’s only brenford and it’s only Southampton I’m looking at it thinking it’s two home games that that’s what I’m looking forward to the most is that we’re at home we we’ve got to perform against these two teams just because it’s Seth Hampton on Saturday Seth Hampton I’ve watched Southampton a lot this season and they play well in every game and then been done by fine margins so that in itself is a difficult game so we have to perform and we have to be there and we have to get everything out of out of every player on Wednesday right Simon has put I just don’t get how we can go from a good start with nothing spectacular to where we are now a whole Squad out of form the only player I’ve seen anything decent from the last eight games is Kamar against juu there are two players that are real really frustrating me Watkins and Rogers both need to spell on the bench as for philene I don’t think I’ve ever seen him do anything good I have no idea how Emory resolves all of this but I hope he does quickly it’s not nice this thinking about him going and disliking players I’ve Loved um yeah difficult time I think Watkins he’s getting the chances he just needs to finish him Rogers I agree I think for someone like Rogers who is a young player we can’t be Rogers and reliant on Rogers we can’t rely on Rogers like that’s not fair that’s not fair on Rogers to to rely on him and I think that’s what we have been doing and I think that means that some other players have to step up um regarding emry I think he’s obviously he’s for me pretty much bulletproof like I don’t think he will like he’s not going to get the sack he’s not going to get the sack so even if it’s one Bad season where we are struggling he’s still going to keep his job because and I will say this if emry ever goes for me the owners go and they will leave because they will have looked at it and they will have gone we have had the best manager we’ve got Champions League football we’ve tried it we’ve tried to succeed we’ve tried to push we’ve tried to spend and we haven’t been able to and I personally think the minute the emry leaves Villa nswe will as well and the bigger problem to that is the whole club is built around emry and if he was to go then we are in an absolute mess so the unthinkable of him going I don’t think it’s there I think I think the more you start thinking about it and you think about the summer and how difficult it was to sign players I think hopefully we won’t have another summer like that we might not be able to spend as much as we want we might still have to sell some players but I think we will recruit a little bit different L to enable us to build and grow next season as well so for me emy’s bulletproof he he can’t leave otherwise I think the whole thing completely falls apart and that that’s just my honest thoughts on it all really because I just think if em is to go what did the owners do then do they just go oh no we’ll just go we’ll just go and get try and get someone like I don’t know anchel or something and and start again with it I I don’t think I think this is this is it I think this is this is nsw’s push to push us further forward so yeah that that’s generally that’s generally where I’m at regarding any talk of of emry potentially not being Aston Villa so uh full appreciate all the positive input here but what concerns me is the attitude and application of the players on the pitch and importantly Emory seeming lack of control over that despite that being renowned for his match preparation and just hate to say but these are Gerard like performances now and we know where they lead to two absolute crucial games coming up minimum Four Points I would think to avoid an incredibly fraught Christmas for Villa fans yeah Merry Christmas right so a little bit about what I’ve spoke about Emy there um I think it’s it’s Collective it’s the players it’s it’s it’s em tactics at times as well um they are reminiscent some of these little performance like the Chelsea performance was a very Gerard performance like you can’t you can’t take away from that if if Gerard was in charge of villa and you and and you didn’t know emry was in charge of you’d go like that was that was a that was a Gerard that was so I understand what you’re saying um so yeah I understand so got two more and then we’ll finish off so we’ve got Jim asport I feel like we need a little refresh changing formation a few tweaks AK Watkins to Duran for the midweek fixture or weekend fixture hopefully a few changes May pump some life into us because currently we look lost and frightened it’s so strange anyway up the villa and then we’ve got this last one here it’s a big one but we’ll read it I think a bit of perspective is needed not making excuses but three of our last four games have been against Spurs Liverpool and Chelsea that’s a tough run for any team I thought we actually played well against Liverpool in all honesty so there’s being some positives or beat very few I think the biggest thing from that is that whether you think we are there or we’re not those are three teams we are trying to compete with and we’ve lost all three so I think that is pretty pretty sort of like not great is it that we’ve not managed to get anything from three of those after yesterday’s performance and result I’m still feeling Cal that situation will be very frustrated like the rest of the fan base but I am confident and optimistic we can turn it around I think we need to go back to basics on Wednesday and make ourselves difficult to beat once our defense simply hasn’t been good enough and we’re far too easy to score against I don’t care if it’s an ugly one- nil win or the ball going off mcin ass we just need to grind out to win somehow because that will give the players and the fans a massive lift which I reckon we could kick on from keep the faith up the Villa great comments from you all we did have a lot more but I can’t read all of them there’s just far too many so I picked think I picked about 10 um so yeah I think it’s good to highlight fans thoughts because everybody’s opinion is pretty pretty valid isn’t it so we’re all welcome to an opinion we are all Villa fans just because you are positive doesn’t mean that you can’t listen to someone that’s feeling a little bit wary or a little bit edgy or a little bit negative I think they’re obviously saying that for a reason so I think there’ have been some really good comments there and I think a lot of them weren’t just he’s crap he shouldn’t play what is he doing you know blah blah blah like those that they’re just ridiculous comments that it’s not going to help anyone so I think the fact that every comment in there was was very thought out and you shared your thoughts fair play to you so thank you everybody um so yeah those are my thoughts then I thought just do some a little bit different and yeah not just talk about tactics too much Etc but I think if we beat brenford on Wednesday we’re going to Saturday buzzing yeah the buzz is back one win the buzz is back so let’s do it so we will have fan cams after the game tomorrow so they will be back I will be there um so come and join us and have
