the Auburn front Court here Memphis up to 27th on kenpom Auburn’s the number one team in the country if they win this game I would be surprised if Auburn is not the number one team in the polls despite canis holding serve and beating Duke last night we’ll find out if I’m right or if I’m wrong about that but Memphis also could absolutely win this game want to start with that with the way PJ Hagerty with the way Tyrese Hunter are playing right now I mean I am not looking pass this statement run for Penny Hardway early in this season uh I think given all the options here I mean North Carolina’s fun Iowa State’s good Michigan State and Yukon have things sometimes uh I think this is the most entertaining Championship we could have gotten right yeah yeah I I definitely think so especially given like the light that has been shined on Yukon these past couple days um I think this is a really fun and interesting matchup uh obviously you had the star power and ji broom Auburn’s looking incredible right now those those guys look great um the guards look great everything look great about that team and then Memphis has kind of like announced themselves and you know the people the the penny disrespect has slowed down and you know more so praising him on what he’s done and getting guys like PJ Hagerty and getting Kobe Rogers and Tyrese Hunter playing well and then getting front Court um contributions from Dane dja Musa like you know Memphis has kind of announced themselves as like a team that you should give you know give some respect to like it’s a good basketball team um with that said all great things come to an end you you made your statement you made your statement the statement is we we recognize that at this point though I think there’s somewhat of levels going on here and Auburn is on a different level than Memphis currently and that’s not a sight to Memphis that’s a that’s a big up to Auburn I think being the best team in the country yeah I think you’re right I mean like they are they are they are so as long as they don’t get in their own way which is very much in the cards that team they love getting in their own way sometimes it’s special but like they are top five offensively they’re top five defensively um block rates incredible ji broom erases everything at The Rim uh the ball pressure from the guards they get out and run toob peder’s great Miles Kelly like this Auburn team is really really good yeah they are I think you hit on the fear with them though right it’s the fear that like when it goes wrong it’s going to be due to self-implosion like they’re they are the team that nobody can beat except for themselves and we probably shouldn’t be speculating that they can beat themselves because they haven’t yet all they’ve done has been brilliant this year but I think history would tell us with the Bruce Pearl team there will be a bad moment at some point and I guess the the thing for me I think you have to have enough substance as the Auburn opponent to capitalize when Auburn does that because I’ll I’ll say this last night against North Carolina I thought Auburn sort of semi imploded at times like they were letting North Carolina hang around and North Carolina didn’t really capitalize RJ Davis couldn’t beat anybody off the dribble he’s too small and Elliot gdau was flopping around so I to me like say Auburn has like an eight-point lead in this game and then they shoot three straight shots from the logo with a hand in their face that Miss I think PJ Hagerty and Tyrese Hunter are gonna make them pay like everything I’ve seen this week tells me Memphis may have a top five backourt in the country maybe a top three backourt in the country and I know we’re getting roasted on Memphis Twitter which is fair game that’s fine um probably speak to that more in the Memphis recap that we’re recording after this one but like it’s deserved for me being wrong on Tyrese Hunter at the same time I do feel like they’re they’re misconstruing and kind of Mis clipping us when we have been overwhelmingly impressed by the Memphis back hord and said that repeatedly so my history of not trusting Tyrese Hunter is just something I gotta get over he shut me up against Michigan State he was great you know who I do trust PJ Hagerty that dude’s a dude he’s insane and even if I don’t trust Tyrese Hunter like him being able to play next to PJ Hagerty has opened so much up for him then you just got Kobe Rogers standing there ready to shoot whenever they forget about him like I I don’t know I don’t know what this Memphis team will be over a 30 game sample but right now I don’t know if there’s a back court in college basketball I’m taking over memphis’s that’s the thing that I they’re for sure top five top five backt in the country like name name some of the back who would you take like Carolina is one of the only ones where you’re thinking like RJ orble or Alabama Sears and philon Braden and Fletch have still been really good Braden and Fletch have been good yeah but like they’re they’re in that they’re in that group of the best cars in the country they’re in that group um hey can I show some vulnerability real quick here Greg of course I need to give me a quick kenpom lesson just very very quickly here uh Auburn’s defense if I want to find out if they foul a lot what category would that be in free throw percentage uh Auburn’s defense would be in uh free throw attempts divided by field goal attempts okay got because you because we know that you know this Memphis team they like to get to the line they do it well yeah Auburn’s been pretty decent in avoiding fouls surprisingly that’s surprising to me I was I was willing to come in here and be like that’s that’s where that’d be a spot where I’d like to get an advantage because go ahead no I was going to say not only because Memphis does it well but I think part of memphis’s game plan is they have to find something to frustrate Auburn like one of the things to me why yukon’s falling apart is because they are getting frustrated the coach is getting frustrated with the referees the players are getting frustrated with the referees and it’s throwing them off their game like if Memphis is able to do that get easy points at the line they don’t miss from the free throw line um and Auburn just starts getting frustrated with how the game’s going how the game’s being called next thing you know Memphis is right there yeah yeah that’s a good script I buy it so what I’ll say is this I am surprised based on it test especially this week that Auburn has been pretty good at avoiding fouls last year they were horrible they were 334th in the country avoiding fouls the year before horrible 327th the year before bad 279th Bruce Pearl’s teams want to foul they do foul a lot so like the fact that they have started the season without fouling much to me is an anomaly more than it is a trend it’s also something where I respectfully to the officials who I’m sure have done a great job in every game this year just asked Dan Hurley uh there have been a lot of Auburn games that have not been officiated this year the way others that I’ve been watching at the same time have like I had Duke and Kansas on last night I flipped on Houston Alabama card those games were whistle Fest every single play and then you’ve got Auburn and North Carolina running up and down hitting each other into the first row with no whistle so that really really benefits Auburn if they are getting a whistle where you’re allowed to do that Auburn will win every game they’re that physical they’re that athletic they’re that quick they’re just that they will win if they get a tight whistle that’s where the door gets opened and it’ll be very interesting because both teams play so fast and have so many athletes and both love to get to the line I do think it’s one of those games where like if it’s called close it benefits Memphis massively and if it’s not called close it benefits Auburn massively hopefully it’s somewhere in the middle but the refs are at the top of my scouting report for like what do we expect in this game you know yeah and and and also the thing that I think is a disadvantage to Memphis um for as good as their guards are Hagerty 63 and Tyrese Hunter 6 foot and I think we saw last night in the North Carolina game like the North Carolina guards were going to the hole and they see Janai broom there and they see Cheney Johnson down there and Dylan Carwell like there’s this this Auburn team flies around there’s length everywhere ji bro had three blocks in that game um 19 rebounds um it’s just they’re so physically imposing um on the same token that you just said with the whistle I think it’ll be imperative that Auburn does take note of how the game’s being called because I go back to the Houston game for Auburn I thought they did a really good job of adjusting to how the game was being called in that game and I thought it helped them down the stretch especially so um I hate that stripes are such a factor but uh they have they have been a Maui MVP thus far and something that needs to be watched yeah 100% um Memphis has been shooting the lights out from three 45% on the season that’s third in the country that dropped one spot after the Michigan State game you know why Greg Maui rims no guys are good at hitting basketball shots good basketball players hit shots I am I’m I’m starting to get very fed up with the fact that people always lean on oh they’re not going to hit those shots they’re not going to you know good basketball players actually hit shots a lot at a pretty good high clip especially when you’re good guys or PJ Hagerty like though sometimes good basketball players hit shots Kobe Rogers is a a great shot maker so he’s going to make shots so don’t don’t always just lean back on oh well they hit tough ones oh they’re not going to keep hitting those they I think they are going to keep hitting those I think they’re really good also Maui rims but they’re really good yeah they they have really good Shooters really good players and Tyrese Hunter shot just looks way improved from last year so I’m I’m in I I am in I think this is a really good shooting team um I think they’re going to have to make shots in this game because Auburn’s internal defense is so good like Janai broom is such a rim protector and Memphis hasn’t been particularly good at scoring from two-point range this season with respect to your boy DNE who honestly left a lot out there against Michigan State um isn’t like memphis’s path to victory in this game is is making a bunch of Threes still right yeah yeah no they they they have to make a bunch of Threes And also danne and CE got to stay out of foul trouble have to they have to they foul and for the love of God if you are gonna get in foul trouble can we please earn our fouls yeah like just fouling like 50 feet from the hoop like what Dane reaching for it when he has two fouls in the first half I’m just like God I love my king but sometimes like what are we doing yeah there’s a reason well he’s he’s got hey he’s got to tighten some things up man um yeah we we’ve made it this far in the video we’re praising memphis’s guards think it’s going to be a great game we haven’t talked about how this is Janai broom against Musa ceis and Dane dja yet that’s probably what this game comes down to like there is a world where the Memphis guards are incredible and Auburn still wins the game because nobody has an answer for janib Bru I don’t think anyone has an answer for him but do think that mus like cisa has like the CE has the physical profile to put up a fight think so I is yeah I do I think he’s strong I think he’s long I think he’s quick um he just uh sometimes I don’t mentally I don’t know if he is thinks the game through enough or he fouls a lot but like physicality wise I think he can you know let’s let’s just say this he can do more than Jaylen Washington did yeah I hear you on that okay uh all right well given that cart um do you think like are I feel like we’re at the prediction point of this and you may be saying Memphis might steal this one am I crazy on that no I want to commend Memphis for what they’ve done like I said I think Memphis made a statement at Maui that they’re they’re a good basketball team they’re a top 25 level basketball team um and they should be treated as such but like I stated when I started this uh there’s there’s somewhat of levels to this at this point of the season I think Auburn is just better than Memphis um and that’s just is what it is and that’s nothing to hang your head about either like I think Auburn is a certified top five basketball team yeah what are uh these two teams like do you think Auburn’s the best team in the country right now the answer’s yes I don’t know why you’re hesitating it should be yes yeah should be yes they’ve been dominant it’s just can you trust him so I like my Devils yeah sure they keep losing stop loving them sorry sorry sorry sorry I I I think Auburn’s the best team in the country what do you think Memphis is I think Memphis is like the like the 18th best team in the country okay that’s fair that’s fair and that might be low on a day where they’re hot like if Hagerty and Hunter shoot this well I think they’re top 10 if they have a average to cold night I think they’re closer to 25 but lot the thing that would make me most excited as a Memphis basketball fan is that if I get to the tournament I got those two guards in a stretch yeah get just get there I think this is most the most dangerous team Penny Hardway has had in a very long time and it would be uh he’s had some other had some other dangerous teams you talking about on court dangerous yeah if we’re like if we’re if we’re doing like what would be the best storyline to come away from Maui with I think Penny Hardway beating Tom ISO Danny Hurley Bruce Pearl in backto backto back days to basically squash any talk about his job security that would be a magical week yeah it’ also be funny to see how there would be some squirming around to somehow take this away from P oh 100% so kenpom has this line as Auburn minus 9 8 2 to 73 I don’t see a line out with the sports books yet which is which is crazy given it’s late in the morning uh if it’s Auburn minus 9 what side are you on N Nine’s too many points that’s my answer I think Memphis Yeah I think Nine’s too many nice too many points they have guard play also you’re never truly out of it like there’s always a moment where the Tigers could tiger and then you could just sneak around and there could be a cover I Nine’s too many for how they well they’ve been playing out of respect for what they’ve done this week and for me making amends with Tyrese Hunter you have to take Memphis plus nine I do think Auburn should win the game but I think it will be a close
