this is probably too early to call it a must-win but you’ve got Baylor at home this weekend you’re at Texas you’ve got Gonzaga after that and then it’s Big East play I don’t think I’m exaggerating this is a pivotal week I mean you can’t go 0 and two this week and I feel like I mean Baylor’s a better team than Texas on paper kmon projects a win here and a loss to Texas like did kind of is one you got to get yeah it definitely is uh can we start off on the right note though because I feel like there’s a level of disrespect by calling calling calling it GLE isn’t don’t we refer to as stores it’s GLE Pavilion in stores Connecticut H for some reason like I just always refer to it as stores but I guess it’s in stores Connecticut but in any I feel like you you not knowing the name of the Pavilion feels more disrespectful than calling it the name of the Pavilion I mean win a game in Maui maybe I will you’re also not a big Pavilion guy not a big Pavilion guy whatsoever as you can tell by my body compos composite score um listen I don’t really think it is overe exaggerated to say that this is a a pivotal week early on in Yukon season and it’s something that they haven’t had to deal with the past couple years like things have been going so smoothly really have been no hiccups now there has been hiccups like small little blips but there hasn’t been kind of uh a situation that has been occurring like this one obviously 0 and3 coming off Maui the sideline Antics from Hurley um the I’m not playing in mte anymore yes I know he said it before Maui he I don’t really care it still take my ball and go home energy this is I want to say it’s a must go like two and 0 week to be honest with you now if you go one and one you’re fine you cannot go 0 and2 so you know there’s a there’s an opportunity for them to be really good uh and get wins in these next couple basketball games Baylor’s a team that um I’m not necessarily like very high on uh as I was earlier in the year I think they’re awful defensively like all Baylor teams but I still think this team has has things to figure out offensively as well identity wise um but yeah it’s uh it’s going to be a very pivotal weekend or week for Yukon basketball starting with this game against Baylor yeah we’ll do the Texas preview we got the Baylor game first though so let’s let’s hone in on that I think uh this the story here these two teams are remarkably similar in profile I think that’s fair to say now some massive differences resum wise which should scare Yukon fans I think um just calling it what it is Baylor has a couple very good wins Yukon does not Baylor has beaten St John’s Baylor has beaten Arkansas even I mean Sam Houston State’s a team in the 130s on kenpom they’re not a cupcake they’ve lost to Tennessee and Gonzaga two of the top three teams in the country Yukon has not beaten anybody with a pulse and has not lost to two of the top teams in the country Yukan has lost three games to teams outside the kmom top 25 in Maui I mean that feel like lost in the talk of the Maui run they weren’t losing to Auburn and Iowa State cart they were losing to Colorado who was just down nine to Pacific at halftime so there are some very scary resume things here for Yukon if you look at just Bart torvic uh just the regular season data you can filter out the preseason data he’s pretty down on both these teams Baylor’s 41st in the country if you just look at what has happened this year Yukon is 59th you just look at what has happened this year so it’s a big matchup in uh in brand and in profile Scott drew Dan Hurley not exactly a big match up based on how they’ve played back to kenpom though I mean nothing separates these teams Baylor is 23rd Yukon is 24th nationally and their profiles nearly identical at what they do well what they don’t do well these are two off is that still grade out Elite Baylor the eighth best offense in the country Yukon the sixth best offense in the country both teams make their threes uh Baylor and Yukon just have awful defenses they have horrible defensive questions right now so to me it does feel like it’s just going to be who can score more Yukon should be comfortable at home but is that the right framing of this match up to you it it is but I think more so the difference to me is I legit think Baylor is aad bad defensive team and Scott drew just isn’t a defensive guy I think Hurley and Connecticut can make changes defensively and be a better defensive team than they are um now I I said this before but I don’t mean to make excuses for Yukon but there is some of this fact that once things started to spiral in Maui there was no fixing it right there was no like you know get in the gym Implement some things maybe you know Tinker with things to make the defense better it was was kind of back to back to back like games games games you don’t really have a chance to make changes like you want to I do think there is somewhat of a it’s in yukon’s favor to have some actual practice time to maybe make some defensive changes and I think this team is going to be better defensively I do not think they’re going to be the 85th best defense in the country now are there some players that hurt their defensive efficiency yes but I don’t think they’re going to be the 85th best defensive team in the country I think Baylor is the 76th best defense in the country it might get worse than that I just think that’s what they are that’s who Scott drew is as a coach um I don’t think that’s Hurley and yukon’s identity even given the Personnel they have so it’ll get better and I think that will be the difference in this game on top of Yukon playing at home as well so what’s the fix though you said like Hurley can make adjustments you’re buying into Hurley’s Mo of like oh I’m never playing mtes cuz I can’t fix my team when something goes wrong okay that’s great that’s all great you’ve had three days what’s he GNA fix like what is the fix well first for starters I would probably do something less Aiden mahaney unless he’s gonna be able to guard Aiden mahaney didn’t play the last two games I mean I know a they’ll yell at me for this he played eight minutes against Dayton and a loss by 20 he played uh seven minutes against Colorado they already fixed that if that’s the fix well and second of all there needs to be an emphasis on not fing which they do a lot needs to be an emphas on it um because I I mean they in every single game every single player was in foul trouble and they they can’t have that so I think there needs to be an emphasis on not playing defense without fouling and listen I don’t I’m not g to come on here and act like I know like yukon’s defensive like monit like I know there’s coaches out there who won’t do things like play zone or do switch UPS as far as like I don’t know maybe you do some some type of defensive adjustments uh but there needs to be some defensive adjustments and I believe that Hurley will make those adjustments and I think they will work to some degree that they will be better defensively okay I can buy they’ll foul less particularly because they’re in stores so I would expect they get a better whistle here than they got in Maui um I guess I’m just like it it’s great to be like I just got to make adjustments I’ll fix this I don’t know what the adjustments are Personnel wise that get there for this defense now I guess to yukon’s credit they have a good twoo defense like they’ve been fifth in the country at presenting preventing twoo percentage offense so like teams aren’t beating them up at The Rim it’s just teams are getting to the free throw line like crazy and everybody’s making their threes they have no perimeter defense at all so I like me trying to figure out what is the adjustment that fixes that I don’t know that it’s a schematic thing that is broken I think it’s Personnel like one answer is more Hassan diara I can buy that is a thing that would help the defense sure but to me H diar has already been playing a lot he already took some minutes from mahany so like I I don’t know he played 29 21 25 in Maui maybe that needs to be closer to 30 um but to me like solo ball Aiden mahany Liam McNeely are all negatives and I don’t think anything schematic you do is going to change that right but that’s true but that’s why I kind of like I’m thinking there’s some changes on maybe what kind of Defense they play and also like a lot of their at least in Maui to me a lot of their defensive mistakes were yes it was like they’re just getting cooked like one on one defense like they just don’t have it there was also a lot of like pointing looking like watching like who has that guy like who has this and the guy shooting an open three right like there was a lot of that in the games especially in that uh in the Colorado game I thought there was moments where guys were just getting back in transition defense and not matching up which is very simple things whether you can be a good defender or not you can at least match up and get your man in transition uh and make sure that you do the right thing so I I hear you this definitely isn’t like a team personal wise where like oh they’re they’re better Defenders than this they will defend better than this um but I do think that schematically maybe you can change some things or maybe points of emphasis I think would be big for Yukon in this game not filing communicating on defense things you can control outside of like your actual defensive ability um also a bigger conversation for another day why is solo boss such a bad Defender uh I don’t know like like like mahaney has an excuse in my opinion so does McNeely Sol solid ball has all the physical tools to be a really good Defender he just either fouls or breaks down defensively a lot it doesn’t seem like he’s wired that way he’s also 63 190 like he’s not guarding point guards so I’m not saying 63190 is small for a shooting guard especially against certain teams they play but I don’t know I don’t 63 63190 is what Kemps got him listed ATS make them look longer or taller I guess does yeah but like I guess I I just keep harping on the same thing dude but it’s like to me the the sell on Yukon coming in or maybe not to cell but it was like they got holes at point guard they got holes at Center we’re talking about let’s fix the defense that’s what we got to do fix the defense right C do you fix the defense if Terrace Reid is the answer at Center because I’m simultaneously hearing like well they gotta play terce Reed he’s clearly better than Samson Johnson Samson Johnson doesn’t stop fouling and Terrace is just better he’s been more productive Terrace has been better terce Reed’s not a good defensive Center cart he’s never going to be so like it’s one of those things it’s like we know we know how to get to the answer here but the answer is not an answer we like and I feel like like you’re trying to tell me we need to we just need to drill defense better with terce Reid and Liam mcney like I don’t know I don’t know if this defense is going to be fixed and I guess specifically for this game like okay yeah they got home they’ve had three days to work on it whatever you want to call it Baylor say what you want they are one of the scariest offenses to see if you have a broken defense right like the one thing Baylor’s going to do is score between roach and nun and NORAD and VJ edcom this team’s gonna score so I to me almost if Yukon is gonna win this game isn’t it still just going to be like let’s outscore him because I that is something I think they could do given what Baylor’s defense is but like I guess if you’re hoping coming into this game like yukon’s going to have their defense fixed for Baylor for a Scott drew offense I don’t see that coming in this one I mean I I guess I can’t argue with that um so are you getting to the point where you think Baylor’s gonna win this basketball game I think Baylor’s the better team you do I I agree with torvic on just look at what they’ve done this year if you filter out the fact that this is the two-time defending champs Baylor’s been better this season they’re they’re very similar profile teams but also like better teams lose to slightly worse teams at home all the time Yukon can very easily win this game I just I feel like the cell on like oh how is Yukon gonna fix Yukon it’s like well we’re gonna start defending not this one I don’t think you are but that doesn’t mean you can’t win the game you just need to outscore Baylor like let’s let’s get this to be a high-scoring crazy game if the goal here is like let’s let’s shut down the Baylor offense I just think you’re going to be cooked if the goal is like let’s make Baylor pay and outscore them I think Yukon can do that see if they do that then I think Baylor wins I don’t know if they want to get in a scoring battle with Baylor maybe but St John’s tried St John’s tried to do that didn’t work the Baylor defense is so bad Baylor defense is worse than Yukon not analytically but yeah ey testwise could we take out Maui games can we take out Maui games um oh the rims yeah I mean we could I guess we do have that within our control right just ignore what happened yeah Hurley can why can’t AP pole voters did yeah so why can’t we okay let’s do that yeah yukon’s undefeated yeah okay so think it was cuz caraban was out okay see I would even like to play those two together but then you have to do some things with mcne I listen Hurley if you want to be that guy it’s time to be that guy right now um I am going to take Yukon in this basketball game at home I’m going to I’ll take Yukon 81 Baylor 76 okay um let’s do a speed round real quick Carter is Baylor better than Colorado yes Carter is Baylor better than Dayton yes Carter’s Baylor better than Memphis yes think you have the right answers to that do we trust Scott drew yes I don’t oh I do I don’t I uh I there’s there’s no logical reason for me to believe that Yukon has an advantage in this game I think Bor is a better basketball team I bet Yukon to bounce back against Colorado and then they lost like I I think just being like Oh it’s Yukon they’ll bounce back it’s not the best idea right now they need to prove it they need to like earn our respect here the only thing I would say and why I’m picking Yukon I guess is uh I don’t trust this Baylor team mentally I think at all I think like they they had a big lead against Arkansas in that win and they blew it that was gross I think like St John’s they should have beaten comfortably that ended up in a two overtime game I think when they’ve played a real opponent with a good coach they’ve gotten blitzed both times I mean they got destroyed by Gonzaga Tennessee I think this is a scary spot because you do have Yukon fans like coming together in GLE with like we need this game I just think the crowd somehow is going to make a difference I I don’t know like if you lose this one I think I’m all the way out on Yukon but if I liked the mental makeup of Baylor better I’d pick him I just don’t I don’t trust him I don’t trust VJ edcom and I can’t I can’t back a team I don’t trust to beat a coach I do trust so give me Yukon by by six or seven here so you do trust Dan Hurley I trust Dan Hurley yeah okay trust him to do what win this game when just just win I I trust I like Dan Hurley when he has good rosters yeah me too terce reads A Center man and by the way like he played great in Maui I had admit that remember what what has happened since though they had one game right what happened actually he had a kmom MVP against Maryland Eastern Shore uh yeah had 10 and 12 I’m looking at the Dayton Colorado games card three and five seven and five in losses is
