welcome back to another episode of rock boys football deal late Friday night we get some massive news coming out of the transfer portal as be Alexander makes it official committing to this Oregon Ducks program look we got the college football playoff game going on right now at halftime sneaking down to the studio AKA just my basement I wasn’t going to miss an opportunity to talk about this one to me this makes too much sense and we’ve talked about it over the last couple of weeks when be Alexander officially hit the transfer portal Oregon was one of those names to watch to me this makes so much sense I think most importantly it’s kind of the conversation of can you get the most out of bear Alexander can you put him in an environment where you can maximize this kid’s traits I don’t know if there’s a better place in the country for Bear Alexander to maximize his abilities than what Dan Lanning has built in Eugene Oregon you can’t really say that for a lot of other programs across the country you can tell that culture up in Eugene it’s special and to me this one makes too much sense and then you look at it from a Personnel standpoint and say look at the impact a guy like Derek Carman or a guy like Jamari Caldwell has had on this Oregon defense in the 2024 year you want the same exact thing going into 2025 bear Alexander has every ability in the world to give you what Derek K’s given you now can you go out and do it in 2025 that’s the question this one makes a lot of sense I’m very interested to hear your take on it as well before we get into it as always to the Oregon Duck fans it’s been a blast talking this team on the football field in 2024 in the transfer portal the amount of support y’all continue to show to the fellas means the absolute world if you guys do enjoy the content consider subscribing to the channel still I’m going give you the T box here bar Alexander heading to Eugene how we feeling about it and you said it so there’s obviously some questions around kind of what teammate you’re getting and is it yeah is he G to be the kind of guy you want him to be in the locker room because obviously been a couple times in the portal now obviously the situation at USC probably didn’t play out exactly how you’d want to see it yep you said it the traits are undeniable you’ve seen some really really good play certainly not enough consistency at times for that USC program in 2024 but a guy who when he’s flashed you can tell there’s a level of dominance that he can get to but again Oregon’s gonna lose because you look you’re gonna lose probably Derek Harman I presume he’s gonna go to the draft Amari he’s Jamari and D so there there’s two ways for me to look at this you know we can talk about the player and how he fits into this Oregon roster which we’re going to get to and then you can talk about the fit in the locker room and we’re Michigan fans we talked about getting that bear Alexander you know Michigan going after some defensive lineman in the transfer portal and we both came to the kind of same conclusion because you’re losing kind of a lot of leadership that Michigan has lost the last couple of years plus transitioning to a new head coach I don’t and I’m not saying Michigan has a bad culture but I’m just saying I don’t know if that fit would have made a ton of sense you look at what Dan landing’s building in order you know you have a strong enough culture in that locker room that you’re kind of expecting be Alexander to rise up and meet that now getting into the player he he’s the at least to me the definition of a player that you cut me the the 20 best snaps from bear Alexander in 2023 you look at him and say that’s a first round NFL draft pick now the key is hey the other 40 snaps that you play or other 30 snaps you play in a football game can we get that same kind of bear Alexander can we have it consistent dominant bear Alexander every single game every single Saturday if you get that and you get this kid maximizing himself he’s got that ability to be that game wrecker and you said it best still that there’s not a lot there’s not a lot of holes to pick in this Oregon team in 2024 it’s pretty damn complete football team if we did see a potential whole maybe emerge it was depth on the defensive line you know specifically against Penn State where Penn State was playing some Tempo they were kind of staying on the football field you could tell they were getting to the depth of Oregon on the defensive line you well Oregon simply hasn’t played a whole lot of guys Amari Washington’s worked in but the amount of snaps Derk Harman and Jamari cwell are eating up is pretty insane you look Michigan’s got the same kind of situation where it’s hard to take those two guys off the field because obviously Derek Harman you almost don’t want to take off the field permanently because he’s so dominant he’s played so well Jamari Caldwell think his game is taken up to another level so again you look at the development of defensive lineman over the past two years especially the two transfers love to see it I think Amari Washington has developed really nicely you got a bunch of freshman coming in and again if they can get the most out of bar Alexander like you said like they’ve done with some other defensive lineman in the way you’d want to see it you got a really interesting piece because you need someone to be disruptive and dominant in the way you’re getting from the top two guys and again that was kind of the difference to me from 23 to 24 for this Oregon team is they didn’t have that level of production you’re going to need to replace it and it’s going to be some combination of young guys who I think we all think the world of like there’s some really interesting true freshman coming up and then you’re probably gonna see a couple more ads I would think in the part yeah I mean you like you said you’re potentially getting that Derek Harman kind of game game wer but you’re also adding your depth and that’s really important you said Derek kandil 550 51 snaps on the year 65 snaps against Penn State Jamari calleda 490 snaps on the year 58 snaps against Penn State you saw the depth kind of become a little bit of a question mark and you want to make sure you’re deeper defensive line heading into 2025 at the very least that’s what you’re getting in be Alexander you know this kid can play you start looking at the defensive line rotation specifically on the inside going to 2025 you mentioned it you got to lot of young Talent you know the Jericho Johnson’s the Aiden breelands and then you got guys like Terence green you Amari Washington is probably gon to be the the kind of guy you suddenly look at it and say if guys like Aiden Breeland and Jericho Johnson if they develop the way we expect them to you’re looking at a damn deep defensive line and it’s not always the flashiest thing to say Dan Landing knows this more than anybody what made those Georgia defenses so good when he was running that defense in Athens yes it was the Jaylen and the Jordan davises but it’s more importantly they were just rotating those guys in and out keeping them fresh for four quarters of a season 12 plus games of a year that’s part of being a great defense and Dan Lan’s trying to build that kind of dep bear Alexander certainly brings that to the table last question and then we’ll get out of there because we got a second half of a football game to watch if you were Dan Lanning and you’re saying all right where else do we need to address and this is kind of what I love about Dan Landing right now is yes they’re bringing in really good football players they’re bringing in really good football players at the positions you kind of had concerns about right we got concerns about the offensive tackle position well shoot Dan Lanning just landed two of the best offensive tackles that were available in the transfer portal you got some experience leaving in the secondary two of the better secondary guys coming to Oregon in the transfer portal what where else would you like to see Oregon address in the transfer portal leading into 2025 I mean I’d be surprised if they don’t add a linebacker to you look proba too I’m really comfortable with Devin Jackson coming back but again I look they feel like they’ve kind of found their rhythm with the betra basa combo at that linebacker spot I think those two have given them the best kind of reps and Jackson’s come in and done a good job but again that’s going to be a room that I look at you probably want it to be a little bit more competitive and you have some interesting young guys again Oregon’s gonna have this at every position based on the way recruited High School you have your guys Braden plat who I think is a very but again you’re Dan Lanning like and you’re gonna build a team or at least try to build a team that’s GNA be hyper competitive every year and with the way you can use the transfer portal and the way I think you can attract top talent I wouldn’t be surprised if they added another veteran linebacker who at least makes that room more competitive and raises the floor on it yeah and you kind of said it right with the the veteran part like beter Basa that’s about it you know that that was the veteran that’s the veteran leadership that’s the glue that’s bringing this Oregon defense together those guys are going to be playing on Sundays Bryce beter may be hitting home runs I don’t know what he’s gonna choose yet the you want to add a guy that’s played a lot of football and you’re right it’s not a shot at like Devin Jackson or Braden Platt who who we say Devon Jack you talk about tools you talk about potential Devon Jackson has that in troves but do you want to add a veteran guy that kind of brings it all together I’m probably with you there’s not a ton of positions that I look at and say sheesh or like you look at the wide receiver position there’s a real good chance you lose your three top pass catchers for including Terence Ferguson you know Taz Evans Stewart tan Holden we’ll see about Evan Stewart look at the wide receiver I ain’t that concerned about the wide receiver metting into 2025 at linebacker you’re not really sure maybe what the answer is and so I wouldn’t be surprised if Dan Landon goes out and addresses that in the portal wanted to hop on quick give it give some takes on this I think this one makes too much sense and look as a college football fan I just want to see bar Al be Alexander plays best football
