on Saturday night the Bennett Academy Red Wings honored former hockey player Club director and head coach John gersick at Seven Bridges Ice Arena as the Red Wings host the Providence Catholic Celtics in a cchl matchup the Red Wings are on a roll this season with 12 wins and zero losses in conference while the Celtics are in Sixth and hold a 7-6 record Bennett defeated Providence 62 back in October we drop the puck here at Center Ice as these two Rivals do battle only 25 seconds into the game Providence strikes first as Nicholas covini scores as he’s falling down to put the Celtics in front early in the first period later in the first period the Celtics look to add another goal covini takes a shot but Bennett Academy goalie Joel con makes a big save here to keep this a one-goal game Gian Luca Deco Sola goes back in with the shot and Joseph Ed pounces on the rebounds and goes top shell for the score we’re all tied at one Hudson schy looks to make something happen and he does as he delivers a nice pass to Thomas Dusk and he buries it to give the Red Wings a 2-1 lead as we close out the second period we go to the third period and the Celtics keep pushing for the tying goal kovin finds Andrew Rodriguez and he Taps it into the back of the net NS the game is now tied at two we now go to the other end of the ice and this time the Red Wings respond with a goal of their own Deco Sola sets up Carson Stone and he rips the shot into the Nets Bennett Academy is back in front [Music] 32 John Mendoza Jr tries to set up koven for the shot here but con shows off the glove for the save under 5 minutes to go as the green and white have control of the puck it’s a battle behind the net and Mendoza Jr scores for Providence Catholic to tie it up but the referee waves off the goal as the net is dislodged before the puck crosses the [Music] line under a minute to go as the Celtics try to tie this one up late koven rips a shot and on the rebound John Cardwell shoots but hits the post con covers it up for the Red Wings Bennett hangs on to win and defeats Providence Catholic for the second time this season the Red Wings extend their conference winning streak to 13 to begin the year yeah um we went out there started the shift off like good win from Luca he spun around shot it I was just there back door the spot open yeah um I think after that goal I think it changed the just the pace of the game um I think we all got locked back in into the game um whole different story if I missed uh I think it wouldn’t have been the uh same ending but we still should have probably scored more but at least we got the win I think it’s definitely a big thing you know no Bennett team’s ever gone undefeated in the Catholic league and I think we’re trying to be the first um but you know these are these are must-win games you know especially against Providence you know the Rivalry has been going on for a while so you want to win all those games and if you want to go undefeated you need to win those games so need to do all the little things to get get the outcome you desire [Music]
