[Music] at this point we’re about 5 weeks away from the NBA trade deadline and the closer we get to it the more we find out about what the Lakers might be planning to do who they’re targeting what kind of player that might be or might not be and what their ultimate goal here is after all they have been linked to about 10 to 15 plus different players at this point and none of them really fit a common theme one of them might be offensive minded guard the next might be a defensive minded wing and then the next one after that might be an offensive minded Center again not really a theme here so you can’t really pinpoint one player let low one team alone for who they might trade with yes different hints here and there about who they might be targeting or which team they might be looking to trade with but not a definitive report quite yet but according to a new report from sham Shia he did shed a little bit of light about what they’re willing to give up in a trade and what kind of player they might be targeting for their long-term future and yes it would be one that would fit their long-term future and here’s what he had to say about it the Lakers are in somewhat of a different boat they feel like they’ve got their top heavy when you think about LeBron James Anthony Davis how do we round out this team uh around both of those guys they’re monitoring the sellers around the NBA Portland Washington Toronto maybe Chicago and my sources in that Lakers front office tell me they’re open to moving they’ve got three first round picks they can trade they’re open to moving that in a potential trade but they want a player or players that they feel can can get into this iteration of this team now with LeBron James and Anthony Davis but can also play for three four five more years under JJ reic as the coach in my opinion I think the primary and big takeaway from that is that they’re looking for a player that can play for three four or even 5 years after this year alone not only to play with LeBron or Anthony Davis but both of them this season and then maybe even to carry the torch after they leave that to me is the primary objective for them here and might be the biggest thing we have heard about yet for who they’re looking to Target through a trade I mean that kind of R out guys in their mid-30s that wouldn’t fit that that’s not a guy that would be with their team realistically at least for another 3 to 5 years and then maybe not a young player not a guy that you can rely on to actually fit that goal and develop into that player so probably somebody that’s currently in their Prime but not about to leave their Prime and around that 27 to 30y Old range that could help them right now obviously help the Run Anthony Davis to maybe win a championship but then help them in the future too whether that’ll be with Anthony Davis and playing behind him or with him or whatever it might be they’re definitely looking for that kind of player a guy that can stick with their team for another half decade and there are a few guys that might fit that bill on the open market and we’re going to talk about a few of them and I think we’ll Begin by talking about the guys that are most well known and definitely take the most Dr picks to get too and starting out with Theon Fox the newest guy that’s been linked to their team and maybe the new newest guy in the trade market we don’t know that for sure there’s currently a lot of drama on that Sacramento Kings tee right now which Lakers have an opportunity to build off of layer tonight and depending on that dear and fox might be on the open market following the drama that’s going on in Sacramento they fired their head coach Mike Brown a guy that dear and Fox’s been very complimentary of a guy that’s been coaching him for the past three years now and the only guy that he’s really had success under that might lead to him wanting out and maybe even prior to them firing him too now I’m not sure the Lakers should or could trade for him but he theoretically would fit that bill of a guy that could be with their team for another 3 to 5 years both the short to intermediate to even long-term future again only 27 years old currently averaging about 26 points per game 6.1 assists per game and simply being a demon the open court and all around a very talented player yes he could help them right now it might not be the best fit and that’s why I would be a little bit hesitant of it another Bal dominant guy that’s not a great three-point shooter maybe he might give you a flashback of Westbrook I don’t think he would be like that not anywhere near that bad but maybe not the best fit but he would fit that description of a guy that could be with their team for another 3 to five or even more years after that but again maybe not my favorite trade Target and they definitely would have to give up a trade Hall to get him meaning like D’Angelo Russell Ruby haimura Dolan connect and or Max Christie alth two first round draft picks likely a couple of first round draft pick swaps and maybe even a couple of second round draft picks picks too again maybe worth it maybe not worth it but he would fit that description after him though the only other allar I think that they could be linked to that would fit that for them would be former Laker Brandon Ingram another 27-year-old here and another former Allstar Al be at only a onetime Allstar and a guy that could very well be on the trade block too now the Pelicans have definitely pushed against that saying that they will get a new contract done with him eventually but up until this point it hasn’t happened and I’m not sure that will happen now would he be a good fifth for the Lakers I think he’d be a slightly better fifth than Deon Fox a better three-point shooter a better Defender plays that position of need for the team that they definitely need more than a point guard in my opinion all around he would fit decently albeit not the best you know definitely another preferably on ball guy he likes the ball in his hands likes to create for himself not really a catch and shoot guy and that’s kind of what they need more of in my opinion not another ball dominant guy that wants to control the ball lead their offense and kind of do everything with the ball that puts LeBron off the ball more which he doesn’t love to do puts Anthony Davis off the ball more which he really can’t do at times not a great three-point shooter spot up guy in general and that kind of takes away from them rather than adds more to them overall though wouldn’t be a terrible fit and it wouldn’t take a lot to get him given that IDE is not expiring contract you’d simply have to match the contract and then throw in a first one draft pick I don’t think it would take more than that it would definitely take a lot less than Theon Fox so maybe that’s something they look into maybe it’s not not who knows but yes he would be another boardline star player that would fit that description of he can help them right now and in the short term to intermediate future to then maybe the long-term future as well so definitely do keep him in mind here but he might not be the best fit for that and maybe not the guy they want to give up their trade assets for if not him though and not Theon Fox they probably will be looking at a role player here which might not be a bad thing in my opinion the term role player can often be taken as a bad way especially when trading draft picks but it might be a better fit for their team than another star player and if we’re talking about a great fit for their team and a guy that would fit that 3 to 5e time frame then cam Johnson should definitely be mentioned only 28 years old after all maybe not 27 like Deen Fox and Brandon Ingram but a guy that would definitely fit that offb role for their team a whole lot better than they would an elite three-point shooter a near 40% three-point shooter a great catch and shoot guy great off ball cutter and simply a guy that knows how I play with other ball dominant players no he might not be able to quote unquote take over their team when LeBron retires and be that one be option to Anthony Davis after that happens but he definitely could help them right now and help them a lot right now in my opinion and help Anthony Davis or whoever they build around after that point in that 3 to 5year time frame as well so in my opinion he would actually be a better Target than Dean Fox and or Brandon Ingram given the prize for him and how well he fits their current team but if not for cam Johnson a few more intermediate trade targets Target and all of which are under the age of 30 and would be worth a round to First on drop pick one of which might be a guy like Isaiah Stewart for example I know some Laker fans have a problem with that given the little history and Skirmish between him and LeBron back in 2021 I think but apart from that and if they could squash that which I do think they could I think he’d be a really good front Court fit for them great defender can knock down a three-point shot here and there could play with Anthony Davis and overall will be a good long-term fit for their future only being 23 years old apart from him though two other under the age of 30 guys would be number one Kyle kusma a former Laker and some people might not like him but he would fit theoretically would fit that 3 to 5e time frame only 29 years old right now can be a decent three-point shooter first C Defender when he wants to be in has my proven fit for them albeit not a perfect fit but a decent fit and then after him a guy like Bruce M Jr definitely is on the trade block has been linked to their team multiple times now only 28 years old and can a variety of roles on the court both play out and defend one through three on the court so that’s definitely valuable and could be a good addition to their team depending on the price overall though if you’re talking about a guy that would fit their long-term future but could help them right now as well there definitely is a shorter list and you can include guys like Dori infin Smith for example Nico abovich Jeremy Grant Malcolm Brogden and simply guys that are over the age of 30 wouldn’t really fit that description for them anymore and if that does happen to be prior PR number one for them then I think we can effectively rule those guys outdoor at least guys that they’re not trying to prioritize through a trade maybe they could still be included definitely with one guy being Dorian V Smith with Cam Johnson but again probably not the priority for them here if that is their main goal with that being said though what do you guys think do you think that should be the Lakers main goal here
