how going everybody it’s wardy here and we’re back at it with our second video of the day in the second video where I’m currently out of town this time in New York with some family here as we are still wrapping up the holidays but we have some big Mets updates to get into because right after I dropped our video from earlier make sure to check it out in case you guys haven’t already then we come to find out from Tim Healey there covering the Mets through Newsday check out his latest piece on everything regarding the Mets he does a great job he reported the following that the Mets actually put in a 2-year contract offer for teoscar Hernandez before he ultimately sign a threeyear $66 million deal including deferments which essentially defers a quarter of that contract there for the LA Dodgers and for teoscar Hernandez and now what is the impact that this has on the Mets pursuit of bats going forward this offseason is what we got a breakdown let me see your initial reactions the comments down below to that news as we’re not only talking about teoscar Hernandez but the teams actively pursuing Pete Alonzo outside of the New York Mets that we know cursy of John of the New York Post that we’re about to get into Alex bregman the latest on his Market Jesse Winker Anthony sand there folks let’s dive in right here right now because we first see this report from timy Hy of Newsday then W salmon of the athletic who does a fantastic job on the beat for the Mets through the athletic he is a great friend here on the channel as well make sure to check out his continued work there as he does a fantastic job and well went on to say how actually tasar Hernandez in his latest piece there I’ll have a link Down Below in the description of this video he stated how tasar hernandz was at the top of the Mets short-term bat option list so the Mets who did actively pursue jock peerson on around a one-year deal or so jock signing multi-year deal there that we saw with the Texas Rangers now we see teoscar Hernandez who had a preference to go back to the World Series champion LA Dodgers understandably so and deferred essentially a quarter of his contract or close to to ensure that he would be going back to the LA Dodgers made endless sense I fully expected to to go back there so that didn’t Shock Me Just stains a little bit more after they already landed Michael conforto so conforto is essentially they Kevin kerm their Jason Hayward type outfielder this off season when conforto better has higher upside and we all know how sweet that swing can be but I digress I’m not here to talk about conforto as I am about tasar Hernandez and its Mets Pursuit because what does it tell you the Mets threw the same a without deferments that we saw on a two-year deal instead of the three-year deal that the daughters gave ultimately to Lano back but it show that the Mets are willing to give up a third and a sixr draft pick because too had the qualifying offer attach him and denied the $21.5 million deal which is why he would have costed that much in draft picks the Mets were willing to go there for a short-term bad option everybody and after missing out on Jack Pearson now missing out on tasar Hernandez this tells you that they’re absolutely in the market for another short-term bad option even if it is one that may maybe a little is a little surprising when looking at the current roster construction is if they landed to Oscar Hernandez that would naturally give Brandon Emma more playing time in Center which I don’t think anyone really wants right now not only with the planter fasciitis but also he didn’t play at all and really any reps for the most part very little reps at least in center field last season and nmo isn’t getting any younger him as a corner outfielder is where he’s going to more than likely profile best for the Mainer of his career and then you add on the planter fasciitis still lingering and rehabbing from that throughout the course of the offseason having to take shots and all those types of things so when looking at the defensive construction of everything Tio makes more sense in the DH role than the even does in the corner Outfield because he is not a plus Defender by any means like juodo he has a lot of defensive downside and if that were to be the case so that further inclined the Mets to trade sty Marte it’s hard to to be not the case right but the Mets did add to Oscar rendez that would essentially be the top cream of the crop over say Jesse Winker and other lower tier bad options that the Mets may still find themselves inevitably landing and speaking of Jesse Winker that brings in my my next point because the Mets went after tasar Hernandez because he fit a short-term fit for them where they could have an immediate ump there to the corner Outfield DH in which they could still rotate the DH at times between not only giving nmo some days off from defense to go in the d8 spot Starling Marte and too should they not trade Starling Marte right away but now we hear through the same piece from Wolf salmon that the Mets do have a level of interest in a reunion with Jesse Winker something that we’ve highlighted on the channel over the past week cuz Winker makes endless sense to return of the Mets not only for The Vibes in which he is the exact guy you never want on on your team Parton me he’s the exact guy you don’t want to go up against but he’s he is the exact guy you want on your team case of Jesse Winker his 2024 numbers clutch situation two out Runners a scoring position playoff numbers everything the most important statistics for a player Jesse Winker was beyond profish in last season and he just had that flare for the dramatic and really embody what it meant to be a met as a guy that was a longtime villain against this fan base in a lot ways going back to the 2019 season there with the Cincinnati Reds and Jose glaes at the time fast forward all these years later the Mets do have an interest to bring back Jesse Winker who is such a slim dunk of an acquisition the best trade that they made for an offensive piece really outside of jav bayz since Yan aesbus north of a decade ago there back in 2015 but the reason why the Mets have not went out of their way to bring back Jesse Winker just yet is because they have been trying to land Superior options jock Pearson would have been an upgraded option over Jesse Winker more power potential there for sure when you look at even though the Vibes maybe Jesse binm more jock is also known for being a great Clubhouse character just don’t talk to T Tommy fam about that we love Tommy we absolutely do then you look at decar andz he would have been a massive upgrade teoscar rendez over Jesse Winker it’s night and day in the immediate impact that they would have at times but Jesse Winker he is no slouch he would be a perfect fit to reunion with this Mets team can play Corner Outfield get platoon DH reps as well makes more sense as a platoon DH there with Starley Marte and if the Mets do say bring Alonzo and bregman in then you can worry about that then on maybe having more of an emphasis to trade Marte because Winker already has limited playing time with vantos being more of a standalone DH because he’d be boxed to only that position essentially the Mets do in fact find themselves going down that route now Anthony santand there is a name that a lot of Mets fans I’ve been asking about and as much as I like sand there I think he’s a very unique switch hitter certainly a more unique option than most other FR agent bats that we’ve seen in the market this year but for sandir he’s been looking for a contract anywhere from four five plus years which is why I’m sure the Mets have him been too heavy in his market right now but I also wouldn’t be shocked if the Mets do find themselves actively in his Market before ultimately settling on Winker because with the way that the markets are currently going it feels like sandir and Alonzo are clearly the big bats left outside of bregman so these are the next big dominoes to fall then we will see the winkers and other more mid to lower tier options where they have upside but they also need to be on the right team fit in order to make sense Winker makes sense for that santon there while I initially was thinking you know more of a stain alone because he’s not a good Defender at all in the corner Outfield it’s hard to Fathom why that makes too much sense for the Mets but again AL they go short-term higher a then say what they even offered to Oscar Hernandez which goes in H with wolf samon’s piece from the athletic that’s linked down below for you all to check out then that does make more sense especially if the Mets again have to continue to give up uh picks here because I’d assume that he has a qo attached to him as well don’t quote me on that but I just imagine if the Orioles would have at their offseason proper then that’s at minimum what you do they threw it at him they threw Corbin Burns uh barring changes here so when we look at santand there 44 home runs last year has had three consecutive seasons of at least 28 home runs 80 plus RB right around the 800 uh Ops there right around the 450 to 500 plus slugging he’s been a solid contact Gap to Gap hitter a very unique switch hitter in santand there that I think would Bode unbelievably well in Queens as a DH option for them but again if the Mets are going to go out of their way to really land more of a standalone DH I’d imagine that that would come more in hand with them being able to fully trade staly Marte where they have finally something going there cuz clearly they don’t at this point in time cuz if they even landed Jack Pearson mind you jock is fantastic but jock is like Jesse Winker where you really have him platoon to face mainly right-handed pitching there as a lefty bat he’s not a guy that’s going to come in Lefty Lefty all that often so essentially all jock Pearson was was a higher upside powerwise option over Jesse Winker to platoon in the DH to face mainly right-handed heading if rightand pitching for Anthony santand he’s not platooning he would be dhing every single day batting from both the left and the right side that would then further limit your opportunity to put Vientos in the d8 spot and that would further limit the other options if they want to try to upgrade the defense with bregman and oronzo and that brings us now to our discussion here on bregman and Alonzo because these are two guys where when we look at the Alonzo Market Per John Haymon right now the Seattle manners the Toronto Blue Jays the San Francisco Giants and the New York Mets are the core four teams in involved in his Market not surprised at all the Mariners would love him but they want him at their price which I’m sure is even lower than what the Mets are offering naturally when you look at the San Francisco Giants that is the one team where I am still somewhat cautious as to how far are they willing to go for Alonzo would they be willing to overspend to the extent I felt that they did uh willly Adamas the way that they would would with Alonzo to the point that the Mets may say all right listen we’re not going past 3 years maybe it’s possible but Carl spera who apparently reported 3 years 90 million also said that the Yankees offered a two plus year deal to Torres and he said no to go to Detroit instead when that was actually refuted today we found out further reporting that the Yankees did not send an offer into glaber Torres before signing with the Detroit Tigers which is why I tell you guys when it comes to Baya and other sources out there take with a great assault as at times you just don’t know what to believe versus what not they get things right and they don’t which makes it very frustrating because there is not enough consistency there to say oh my goodness gracious this person is unbelievably credible right away when that simply isn’t true but in the case of Alonzo the Mets are one of at least four teams actively involved in this market but we know that there are a really a all these teams have kind of their uphill battle with Alonzo along with Alonzo just feeling inevitably like the best fit to come back to the Mets here so when we look at all those options the Giants are the ones that concern me the most personally when I look at the Blue Jays to an extent too but is Toronto going to overspend them to make it basically abundantly clear that hey vlat um we’re not going to be able to get an extension in for you probably so we’re going to trade you as some point throughout the season or just let you walk in the offseason have Alonzo be longterm for space option I just feel like that that would create more Havoc there and I think the Blue Jays are just involved because they’re desperate for any help for their team next season they’re willing to go Great Lengths to do that and that goes in hand with the blue jays and the pursuit here of Alex bregman that’s why I’m not writing them off at all to land either of these big bats at the end of the day only because Toronto is unbelievably desperate they know that this is their win now window or essentially they have to go more in this reto which are inevitably going to have to go down with vlat B everything standing with their contract stases but in the case of the pursuit of Alex bregman the Boston Red Sox especially after losing onte Oscar hernandz they’re heavily involved in the bregman sweep staks I’m sure the Mets are heavily involved in the bregman sweep staks that we know a couple other teams including the Detroit Tigers we just don’t know if it’s as strong as what it was before look glor tour is now Landing in that infield if that changes anything in their Dynamic and their ability to spend for Scott Harris or not and then when you look at a couple other teams that out in the market again not a lot that I feel are bregman suitors but a couple out there and just I’d say at least one where there could be a level of desperation where maybe just maybe they go the length to pry one if not both these players away from the Mets I do not foresee a world this offseason where the Mets wrap up their offseason without Alonzo and bregman I foresee them to land at least one them at minimum at this rate I do think that Jesse Winker will find himself coming back to the Mets just with everything that everything’s currently looking Unless somehow some way they do land Anthony sand short-term higher a wouldn’t shock me at this point and I would be in favor of it I’m always in favor of upgrading this offense right away but how would it go about the rest of this offensive configuration especially if you’re still going heavily after both bregman Alonzo that’s where things get a bit tricky in my opinion so Mets fans let me know how you feel in the comments Down Below on the L will not only the
