anything I always want to make sure that everybody knows that to donate to the mecca Society to keep supporting this Championship culture this Championship program so the mecca Society is Howard’s nil Collective which gets the money to the athletes to help support the program and also you can donate uh going to Howard’s uh athletic website hub bison.com so always remember to support the program support the Dream Factory Championship culture and let’s make this thing happen I love it brother I love it you keep us honest we got to raise that money and uh make sure we’re supporting Athletics not only with dollars but butts and seats we got to make sure we show up for the games that’s what it’s all about uh I think just like we’ve done before we’re going to you know spend some time checking out on what happened with our men’s team and our women’s team uh we’ll kind of check in and see who did their thing and maybe who could do more right and uh and we’ll wrap up today with a little bit of over and under reaction that’s kind of my favorite segment because we tend to you know be fans and fanatic about it we’ll also hear from E who likes to let us know how to do things that are good for basketball and uh see how we can wrap up get ready for for the next episode but yeah man it’s going to be fun so uh before we uh before we go to the updates here I I did bring a little something for you e uh you may have heard this at your school uh back in the day you represent all the black colleges in the Southeast for some reason so so let’s let’s let’s play a little something to get everybody hyped up a little bit and then we’ll go into the [Music] [Music] upd yeah y like that you like that right it makes me want to give y’all some flowers anyway man I really appreciate you all what you all do to make this show happen and the reason I was acting a plum fool on uh as we were coming in because I still love the theme song I appreciate you brother I’ll send send your uh your congratulations to the artist we got to pay that guy we got to pay that guy abely yeah this is perfect but like I said we got to get it into the vibe so in this uh segment here we’re going to do what we normally do let’s start with the guys uh they uh had a couple of competitive games and so uh you know for reminder we we’re covering the last two games the gentleman played I think we are going to cover that UNBC game which was right before the holiday and then right after the holiday uh we’ll talk about what happened with Mount St Mary so let’s open it up man what did you guys see in the uh the UNBC game to to get us going here you know I guess I I I’ll start a little bit uh one of the main things I saw first of all it was of course very disappointing to see Bryce go down in the first couple of minutes of the game that that was that was kind of rough to see but I was very glad to see domm be the big man that I want him to be uh throughout the game and so that was I was very encouraged to see him uh in the paint moving people around and and really picking up the slack for Bryce’s absence so I was encouraged to see big Dom doing his thing so oh yeah yeah I I too was very excited to see Dom get your message from our last uh episode you told him to to put put his body on them people and uh you know uh coming off the bench and looks like he was able to to put in 11 points along with the rebounds he was able to get he he listened he uh you know he used that well so I I do appreciate that yeah that was good to see and um I did get a chance to share notes with uh with our um our dear brother Bryce Harris I know he’s in good spirits but you know when you’re best player uh consider the preseason M player of the year goes down it automatically puts us I would say in a in a tough spot but we’ve talked about the non-conference where we learn a lot about ourselves so I I did you know I did see some things that I thought were really good and obviously we ran out of gas a little bit towards the end so the final score you know 95 to 77 doesn’t really indicate that it was probably you know neck and neck for the most part up until about three or four minutes left in the game so highly competitive um you know I would say that you know one of my guys Blake Harper you know he he’s he’s expanding his wings my man he’s he’s looking like he’s been here before I think he dropped 20 uh during the game which is that was that was a beautiful thing to see so being able to pick up the slack from some of the scoring we didn’t have was actually good to see and I believe he picked up uh rookie of the week again Blake haror I mean we might as just put that on repeat from out so that’s right I gotta I gotta find me another overreaction then because I I thought I thought for sure I thought for sure somebody would have taken him down by now but he’s he’s on the list every week so we’ll take it I love it I love it yeah and you know one of the I’ll say too and even though it didn’t show in this game and we you know we might get into it when we talk about the next game but yeah yeah Joshua strong is showing I gotta give him more flowers because his shot is a lot more pure this year uh where where you can really count on his his outside shot you know it’s three-point threat so I was like okay I see you yeah and the audience won’t know this but the fact that we kind of continue to have point guard conversations and to see him you know answer the ring the bell like that for two two games really uh it’s really impressive man so oh yeah yeah like I said he uh we’ll get to him in a second but I I will say that um for the the other part my big takeaway from the UNBC game one uh shout out to UNBC since they let us watch the game since they didn’t have the video that the day before appreciate you guys letting us watch the game live so not to not to say you’re haters but just say it you know we wanted to see you uh the challenge for our team was that you know we did have a pretty close game most of the time and I know we’ talked about it in previous episodes that when we see the effort and the competition you you you want to follow it to the end even if you know we don’t always pull it out you know we had you know more more than just one or two people scoring I think we had you know four bison and double figures which means we’re starting to see balance some balance to the scoring still got a high turnover you know we got to work on that uh still get nervous when we have to take the ball out on a full-court press but uh when I when I was watching it really closely I think the until the end of the game the the lead changed like 12 times and there were a bunch of ties so we were right there and I think that sometimes uh I’m still fascinated when we’re favored in games because of our previous times playing certain opponents but MH you know this is a brand new team as far as I’m concerned and seeing them Jael this early in terms of that level of competitiveness is really cool so definitely UNBC was it was right after a game day before and that injury early was definitely a reason why we probably just didn’t have the Gap to close there we we missed the points and the rebounding from Bryce to to maybe pull out a victory there so I will say um you know I’m glad there was some turkey uh between that game and the LA the next game because usually when we play Mount St Mary’s this one that goes down to the wire and this one didn’t disappoint uh it didn’t disappoint at all I think the you know again we we didn’t didn’t pull this one out but we definitely were in the game to the very end I think we we wind up losing by just four points and again we were out Bri without Bryce um and we definitely didn’t have uh our Betty Marcus Dockery who’s a friend of the program here one of the best pure Shooters we got so when you have two guys that really are anchored to the previous championship team not available it’s sad but it’s also good to see who steps up so what did you guys see from there what did you guys see from that yeah so yeah kind of to your point um you know to have you know a a hobo Dockery and and Bryce being out and to still be within four you know at the end of the game just continues to show me that we have the depth to compete On Any Given night and I was really excited for uh munir hea’s first game I could see a little bit of the rust in terms of you know his communication kind of on defense I saw a couple of it was a couple of defensive lapses but it was just a matter of their communication you know kind of munir maybe not being in the right place or the point guard you know say on pick and roll defense and so that’s you know definitely stuff that’s going to get better the more time that he has on the court but that was a surprise to me I mean I wasn’t sure when he was going toh hit the court but to see him this early in a non-conference schedule has me encouraged for the the rest of the year you know from a health standpoint because like again you hate to see Bryce go down but good to see a player come uh off the injury list and and get in the game and can’t they say you can’t teach height so to you know get a 611 611 dude coming back you know I’m like okay all right let’s watch this let’s watch this I love that it was just hard to get over you know a h doery and no Bryce just yeah well the thing that kind of stood out to me the most was uh one seeing them overcome a 130 run in the second half and just kind of jump right back into it and uh even when that guy Pacho hit backto back threes that’s seem to inspire them more to play with the thing that I’m starting to notice of feel the most comfortable about is their composure they seem to always have a lot of composure when you uh you know a team that doesn’t seem to be as greedy as them and you know I don’t want to keep hanging my hat on moral Victory so to speak but uh I really feel like especially watching the Mount St Mary’s game and seeing Joshua strong which we alluded to earlier yeah you know seeing him respond you know the way he responded to see them just like no we good and you know we going to do what we need to do and you know to be honest with you I was surprised that they didn’t win that game you know it wasn’t just a oh you know you know historically you know not just with Howard’s program you know but we’re old enough to have experienced that oh wow there’s HBCU on TV or oh wow there’s HBCU playing such such and so and so but when I watch these guys I’m kind of looking at it like no they should win this or Noah you know and and that’s the way or that’s what that composure kind of imbus me with a sense of hey you know what they act like they belong here it’s not shocking you know I love it yeah and so those two moments really stood out for that reason to me so Chip tell me more about uh where you where you are with our uh our our our guard andir Gil cuz he he’s showing me some things that on some days I feel really good and on some days I’m still trying to figure it out so what do you what are you seeing from from anoir you know I I kind of see I don’t know if he’s still trying to figure out what’s his role on the team because you know for him to to kind of pull up for 18 in you know in the Mount St Mary’s game it shows me he has the potential you know to do that but I think when we’re fully loaded you know he’s still trying to kind of figure out what you know should he be a score you know should he be the point guard uh should he go down in the paint so he’s kind of a a jack of all trades so I you know I kind of like it but I guess we just got to kind of Define maybe get get a little bit more clarity on you know what will his kind of consistent contribution be uh you know throughout the game so but I I I like it was a couple of games ago where I had you know he was in the post and I hadn’t seen that a lot so we know that that’s that’s there um he definitely is is good for you know kind of driving the lane you know say fast break style you know bringing the ball up and he can get to the get to the rack that way so he’s just a Swiss army knife and we’re just gonna have to kind of continue to see him evolve uh depending on you know who’s in the game who who’s in the game with him and what his role will be but it might just be a jack of all whatever he needs to do you know whatever coach needs him to do look looks like he has the cap to do that so I’ll take it yeah I’ll take it for now yeah no I I like that assessment man he’s uh I think he’s been he’s been that’s what I think you said army Swiss army knife I think uh you know he’s I guess we’re starting to see more of the different aspects of his game I I didn’t get a chance to really check him out uh when he was uh with his pre previous team Lile and so you know I’m learning every something new every time he plays I I I am going to give him a nickname though it’s either gonna be it’s either gonna be why or old man because he’s got that old man at the Y game like he just he doesn’t move real fast you know doesn’t jump that high but he gets exactly where he needs to get at any time so you know we’ll see which one sticks old man a little cliche just call him W I can’t imagine he’s gonna love either one but okay hey everybody respects the old man at the wi game like that’s just that’s just a solid contributor you always like well how did he get that shot off or how did he get to the basket I don’t know but he got dropping dropping 30 every game like I don’t know where it came from he just KN it down yeah well I tell you I tell you what man the you know kind of you know the the week got by us this holiday um what you say e is not it’s not uh moral victories but I do think that with a non-conference schedule uh you know my my takeaways is one we are definitely learning the depth of our bench as we know it today which is good going into you know later into the non-conference schedule here uh I did appreciate the fact that even though one score looked a little bit bigger in terms of scoring margin than the other um both competitions were close they it wasn’t like a blowout from jump and we were trying to catch up it was literally nip and Tuck and the game was highly competitive for more than 30 minutes of a 40-minute game which is again speaks to us figuring out how to compete um I do think that I’m still concerned about how many reps will get to to close out close games I’m starting to find myself starting to Clack at four minutes left and seeing what do we do to close the games cuz we’re competitive for about 35 36 minutes and then somehow in that last four minutes we don’t tend to close the deal yet but I think we’re on the verge right so we’re on the verge uh and I think the one thing that um was notable especially with Mount St Mary’s is that U and this is where you know I’m still trying to learn how the team is is is dealing with it is we we tend to file a lot and it’s not just one or two players and by the end of games it seems like we’re giving away 20 plus points or so on the free throw line and you know we’re just I don’t think we were built to give up 20 free throws I think that if people were shooting for them make them earn it but I’m looking forward to how does our defense you know tend to move and say how do we stop maybe fouling early so we don’t wind up with ample opportunities to just keep scoring without us having any contests right we’re not shooting there so but that’s you know I know when I look at the two games the my big takeaways is that we’re we’re getting competitive more competitive with each game and we’re going to have to fight through injuries they they come that’s part of season I’m just hoping we can get everybody healthy before we start we still don’t know when Harris is going to be back speaking of that uh you know what I don’t have any reports yet I know he’s he’s still you know scooting around campus on a little scooter with his leg up so man um we just got to you know we got to let things heal I’d rather him be hurt now than yeah you know late late in the season when we you know when everything is is all all been dependent on making things happen to Norfolk for for a week so we we can wait I just think the idea is that U to what what chip mentioned earlier our our challenge now is how do people adapt for when people aren’t available I just know we have scoring at every position for the first time in maybe several years where we’re not dependent on one or two people to put scorers up but you know my hope is that he can he’s he’s able to be an army Swiss knife and he can play you kind of that’s kind of where I was going with it because truthfully man especially defensively he’s somebody that in my opin opion he can defend the post and defend the perimeter when people are getting uh going under on screens and those kind of things he he seems to athletically recover well and defend between positions and that is a big thing to miss speaking of you know closing out games and all that kind of so yeah I’m looking forward to that return and that’s where I’m kind of I’m hopeful about mun hea’s contributions because if you can kind of stick him in the you know in the front Court the back line and you know even if somebody kind of breaks down our guards and you know gets in the paint you got a 611 dude with with wingspan that can that can cover up a lot of mistakes you know and so as he gets into you know more and more in the game shape I’m hoping that that you know that whatever that you know what we’re missing from Bryce defensively maybe could be made up by some Rim protection uh from from mun hea so we just have to got to see it play out yeah yeah I feel you on that but you know to take a football analogy we don’t want our defensive secondary leading in tackles that’s not a good side well well well said well said I for I forgot you’re a be Bears fan so you know a lot about that oh I do a I can do a Six Degrees of Separation on that one and I could take it to the The Last Broadcast as a matter of fact because uh they were talking about Gonzaga you know and uh you know and the announcer said yeah he went to the same school as Caleb Williams I said oh look at that look at that that’s true yeah we kind of back on that DMV thing man I love it I it so uh with the fellas just to wrap it up man I know the next next game is the one we’ve been pined we circled on the calendar here because we knew that again kind of like the first game of the season maybe even the second you know we’re playing against some ranked competition uh at least rank for the moment uh we’re going against Cincinnati Cincinnati is uh is as our next opponent on Sunday uh shout out to ESPN plus they’re going to have the game streaming at 2:00 uh Sunday afternoon so uh what do you guys think about that match up what are you what are you looking forward to so you know like I said seeing as as they lost to villain Nova because you know when I first started scouting them they were ranked 18th and then I saw them move up you know to 14 by the time they played villain Nova and so now to lose to a unranked villain NOA Squad you know knocks him down a little bit so uh in the in the words of the any given Sunday hey we uh we they they can get got so it’s that bulletin board material I’m just saying I’m just saying if V if Villanova could take him down we can take him down but they hey they got they got two uh guy named Thomas they got two good uh ridiculous three-point Shooters so we definitely going have to be wary of their perimeter game but uh I you know I didn’t see anything when they played Villanova was not a huge Squad so you know maybe they they had they had like one Bruiser but then we got a Bruiser too shout out to domm but uh shout out to domm shout out to domm you know but yeah so you know Villanova wasn’t overly big matter of fact back court looked kind of small so for them to take down Cincinnati um hey we again we got the tools to make it happen so okay okay yeah I don’t want to come off like a doubter or a hater I’m just saying and I do respect your uh your scouting you know so I want make sure you know that ch ch why does why does he always sound like a hater when he says he doesn’t want to come off like a that’s that’s usually how it goes you know when you say no disrespect have you seen have you seen chga nights I don’t mean no disrespect yeah that’s wild that’s wild so so we’re excited about Sunday I um I’m hoping that we have our as many people healthy as possible because you know to your point e that’s the you know when we get a chance to play against you know good competition we’d like to have our full compliment of players so we can see where we are and our maturation as a team because you know you know I would love to see how we really you know stand up because I know when you were scouting chip you weren’t scouting with Bryce not being available right you’re you’re saying if I have my full team we should be able to be just as close to some of these other competitions and if we get down to the last four minutes then we anybody’s ball game so we’re excited we’re excited so let’s take a quick break and we’ll uh we’ll we’ll come back and talk about the uh the women and see if we can see what’s going on there uh stay tuned [Music] oh feel like you back in the gym right back at the bur back at the bir yes sir all right all right yeah man welcome back to the Bison brothers Basketball podcast man the number one what’ you say number one chip number number one source for all things Howard basketball if you’re a fan of Howard basketball you need to be listening to this podcast subscribe share the podcast tell everybody this is where you need to be that’s right that’s right that’s chip Washington ewat and I’m B smooth and we we here talking about players and and Playmakers today so let’s let’s talk about our ladies man I know coach Ty gray shout out to coach um she’s putting together this program and um you know she hit some Milestones I hope we get a chance to talk about that a little bit so they too had uh two games last week they they waited till after Thanksgiving to play a couple of good matchups I think we we had William and Mary on the on the calendar and the queens of DC they had a really good battle with Georgetown so let’s start with William and Mary that was actually a win for us we actually were able to pull out a really strong Victory but you guys see as part of that that game you know it’s it’s it’s cliche to say but they were hitting a lot of shots uh during the Wei I know I [Laughter] know that is that’s right to score the ball in in in other news they’ll be deep deep Darkness tonight hey Quality quality analysis here at Brothers brought brought to you by Captain Obvious when you score more points than the other team you tend to win that’s how it works I love it so talk tell me more what what did you what what did you see about that cuz I I know we talked about um you know shout out Destiny H and somebody who likes to put the ball in in the basket on regular basis what what else did you see with the team on and the William Mary see and the hard part with the William and Mary game is it was I couldn’t get the video broadcast steady like William and Mary had an option but somehow it kind of disappeared at the at the last minute I they got a little UNBC in them maybe and didn’t want us to see us you know see him catch that L but uh so I’m going mostly with the stats and but it was it was very even across the board uh you know we had one two three yeah three players and double figures and then we had uh you know now now Miller had nine and uh who was it Tiana Walker she had seven so a balanc scoring effort uh pretty good you know field goal percentage you know throughout the game we shot it was you know 50% from the three can never be mad at that and 43.8% how many that 50% say it again do you know how many attempts I I don’t I’m just asking yeah it was s seven for 14 oh okay yeah so very very efficient very efficient okay yeah so overall just a just a good solid effort you know against a quality William and Mary team so it was yeah we we were actually down at halftime which made it even better cuz you similar to the conversation we have with the guys I I am looking forward to how we’re learning how to close out games against our non-conference uh team and so teams you know what was cool about that was that you know by beating William and Mary that’s our fifth uh non-conference win so far this year anybody remember how long it took us to to get five wins last season I do not I do not I’m I’m not I can’t put my it wasn’t it was it well that’s okay we got your name out here ewash baby come [Laughter] on they it took it took us till after New Year’s to to get our fifth win so just before just before even you know we were going into conference place still trying to get our fifth win so uh comparison from last year to this year we’re obviously healthier with Destiny back and we have some strong Talent that’s come in the program as of this year uh shout out siia you know and and then the team that’s coming together now but to get our fifth win this early is is is it’s it’s voting well for us because you know now we’re actually able to and with what you’re saying sorry to cut you off here they still tournament right they still won the tournament right and made up the women no no no not not not last year last year they were they got to the they got to the championship round and and to pull it out but yeah they they there’s a couple years back back when Destiny was able to you will them to victory over okay team out of Texas but no this team has been competitive but again like we said before in our miak conference everything comes down to a week in in Norfolk and so even if you’re playing your best ball or not your best ball if you’re playing your best ball that week it’s anybody’s ball game so uh but but from a non-conference standpoint what I was proud about was that you know when we’re going against some of these teams as you said chip there these are competitive teams we’re not playing against you know easy teams for us to kind of to beat so for us to have to play a a solid you know 40 minute game is really good to see and so I was excited uh I too was following the stat line trying to get a sense of what we were doing but the same names kept popping up for me so siia King Destiny how um NY Miller I mean we have U we have people trying to score at different positions now we still U most of the percentage of scoring is still coming through Destiny she’s she’s a really good shooter um but I like the fact that we’re starting to see other scorers emerge you know one thing I did see from some of the previous games is that we’re trying to take the ball down low a lot more so we’re starting to get some establish our post presence so it doesn’t always come down to jump shots which we love we love to shoot a lot and we’re on we’re on that’s what chip said if you’re on you’re on yeah Captain up up Washington a coach’s dream so what was crazy with this one uh having to win against William and Mary I thought for sure because it was only a couple of days later we were able to see Georgetown and Georgetown again is one of those teams that’s probably sneaky good um it’s the ladies team so we don’t hear as much about them as you would maybe the men’s team because of their story history but uh that game came down to the wire and we we wound up losing this one by by six points I believe at the end but it was it was back and fourth literally I mean almost 20 lead changes uh between the teams so that’s how good it was that and that did I did watch that one that was actually it was actually fun to watch I think that’s what I wanted to make sure I said here it wasn’t it didn’t feel like I was trying to hope that it was a good game or that I you know was just such a fan that I was going to watch whatever brand of basketball we decided to show up with but because we were hosting it felt good I mean I don’t like the fact that our Crowds Are a little bit small cuz everybody’s still coming on from holiday but it was good to see that you know we could get a cross town rival like Georgetown to come visit and and actually play a competitive game yeah right yeah in the words oh go ahead no you go ahead go ahead I just gonna say in the words of Denny green Georgetown is who we thought they were and we let him off the hook let him off the hook I like that I like that shout out out so so I’m G need to unpack that for me a little bit more cuz who did you think they were I mean a story program they were uh they they’re doing pretty well right now in their conference so you know I thought they were a good team but I also thought they could get Gap and we had them I’m have to join you on that and dip in my Gamblers Anonymous bag too because I did look at the line before the game and I actually thought not only uh should we have won that game I thought we should have been favored to be honest with you you know um we had a little better record than them uh I don’t think their nonconference uh strength of schedule of wins was that great so I I kind of was fully anticipating that they were gonna kind of pull that one out and uh and when I heard you describing the game before this you know part of the reason I asked about the three-point shooting because you know not trying to be negative here but one of the things that stood out to me is that they were taking so many threes with so little success and to Brian’s point I was like why they not trying to get the ball inside more so but you know that was actually I hate to say that was my first game actually seeing in real time so you know I might have been like overemphasizing certain things no I think you’re you’re on Eve thanks for for watching real time I think that’s where I know for me whenever I can I try to watch because it’s an energy right because I think that right absolutely you know stat the box scores tell us one part of the story but when you see when you see it in action what I’m I’m loving is that you you can see the you can see what they’re attempting to do even if it doesn’t translate into the stat so you see them trying to run you know um some action on the post so that it doesn’t always have to fall to a three-point shot but when it’s good it’s good right and you know if you home you feel like you can shoot from anywhere so I I do appreciate that I think my my biggest uh biggest takeaways from both the games just to you know kind of lock in on the recap here is that both games really showed uh some strong second half performances by Our Ladies they no matter what the score was at halftime it’s almost like it was it was z00 we were down and we came out playing like it so we didn’t the third quarter third period fourth period we we made sure it was competitive all the way to the very end and so that was good to see especially when we’re trying to learn not only how to to win games but how to close out games when we can you got to be able to stay competitive um I did mention before the it was balance scoring for more than one person I think that’s what troubled me inil some of the losses earlier this season was I couldn’t see who else was going to step up to score or how we would get the ball in people’s hands where they could naturally contribute offensively we played a lot of good defense but it was good to see that you you include the Georgetown excuse me you including the Georgetown game in that assessment I am okay I am I am I am I like I said it was it was the the strong play in the second half even though they didn’t pull it out with Georgetown as chip would say they Georgetown who was who they were we thought they were and we just let him off the hook we really didn’t let let him off the hook it wasn’t it wasn’t that we were down trying to catch up it was like back and forth and then it just got away towards the end again the last couple of minutes really defined the the outcome uh but the defense was interesting for me because again U what doesn’t always show up easily on the stat sheet is how many steals and blocks we were getting where you know when we Lo we lock down we can lock down and that’s something that I know coach Tai Grace really Prides herself on is having defensively competitive team so offense will come but if you’re playing defense you can keep the score in check so seeing I’m seeing what will I believe will allow us to feel good about going into conference play and quite frankly as I’m starting to check out some of the other teams we have to go against uh in conference I’m actually seeing us have a pretty good you know season because if we play the defense we play and have more than two people scoring it’ll be hard to beat us it’ll be hard to beat us I think the there’s only one game that I may may have to Circle if I can figure out when they’re going to actually play but if they play Hampton uh Institute university um shout out to the folks down in the Tide Water Area um they they they they pulled off a un improbable win against Georgia the other the other day here so uh I think competitively I’d like to see Hampton and Howard Square up because I think that would be a pretty good match up and good TV it would be good TV so uh but yeah like I said the the the two games over the holiday break here really were uh encouraging to see how we’re jelling from a defensive side of the ball as well as getting more than one score that we can depend on when it’s time to spread the ball around a little bit and you know one thing that I saw to your point on the defense uh we brought the fight to Georgetown cuz they pressed they did you know full court press for a you know a good portion of the game which to me kind of said we coming for you like okay and you know so I was I was very impressed to see that and another wrinkle that I saw defensively was uh now Miller moving her feet on the perimeter like you know she she’s one of our forwards so I’m used to seeing her down low in the post defense but she was out there looking like a point guard uh you know defending on the perimeter so I was like okay okay Miller I see you like that’s you know we just continuing to roll out different wrinkles from our you know from our players just a a a varied skill set up and down the roster so I love it I love it I love it um and I guess um you know from uh kind of what’s next here I know with uh this week being kind of a lighter game week I think it’s finals and stuff so um their next game is on Friday um against seeden Hall up in New Jersey uh again shout out to ESPN plus they they’re going to stream it for us so we can check it out uh relatively live look it may be ESPN plus because looking at the at our website it says flow Sports which was the same uh Avenue as the William and Mary so hopefully they’ll get that straightened out but uh yeah well I’ll have to I’ll have to set some sort of streaming device maybe I can get some uh some some some old hangers and some some aluminum foil I may have to go old school and get some pliers to change the channel but we G we gonna figure out how to make it work I just know when they do these games early in the day like that it’s it’s tougher to catch but I like to at least put it up in the corner and stream it so I can see it live to your point EO I’m looking for the energy more than just the final score because that’s where uh I I believe we’re on the verge of having some really good basketball to look at too not just to hopefully see them win so so exciting there um you know I think we’ll we’ll take a quick break and then we’ll see if we can wrap up with some over and under reactions uh here what’s good for basketball and then see what else is on tap for our next episode stay tuned [Music] oh yeah I like that oh see e you got you got to pay that man whoever wrote that you got to pay him that’s good stuff it’s good stuff so so welcome back W welcome back to the Bison brothers Basketball podcast uh be smooth here with chip Washington and ewash uh we been talking about our our most recent uh set of games over the Thanksgiving uh week in Holiday uh definitely saw some competitive basketball so it’s one of our favorite segments now we want to talk over and under reaction so uh who’ like to go first with their over or under reaction oh oh I I see I see ewash down front I see ewash down front e what you got for us today man okay I I want to uh say that we should not overreact to losing so many close games you know uh I think that uh you know as we’ll kind of hit on a little later what’s good for basketball is all over that assessment in my mind because uh playing well is GNA always uh be a harbringer for what’s to come I think so yeah you definitely don’t want to overreact to that you know I’m seeing some great things in terms of style of play and uh all kind of things so you don’t want to overreact to that and um you you know to kind of hop on the same bandwagon for myself there you don’t want to underreact to their style of play and the and their ability to play as a team because that’s seems to be a consistent thread all the way through so I agre those are my two I like it I like it uh chip what you saying so my overreaction and and I hope Bryce can prove me wrong but my overreaction is he might be out for a while I just I did not like the way that he went down when he got injured and so again like I said I’m hoping he can prove me wrong but I I could easily see what December like like February him coming back again you know that’s my medical knowledge that I you know obtained as I was watching I stay underreact to that I stayed I stayed at a holiday in last night so that’s it I I saw the way that he fell I was like oh that that could be that could be a long time so but again Bryce I hope you can prove me wrong and you know like and to Brian’s point you know take all the time you need to to get back healthy but from a overreaction just looking at the way he you know fail I’m GNA apologize in advance spoken like a true ambulance Chaser that’s right that’s right that’s right throwing me under the bus in perpetuity this guy this guy right here boy I’m just I’m just glad y’all actually love each other this is actually yeah that’s awesome that’s awesome that’s but my my under reaction will be just kind of like how we said earlier and in the words of of the former Bulls coach Tom Tibido we’ got we got more than enough we got more than enough as he Wills all his players to in reserve right but uh yeah no as as the as the bench rounds out and as we uh I think with Bryce coming back let’s say if my overreaction is right and he’s comes back say mid-February I think the our depth will have him coming back to an even better situation so but that’s all my underreaction is we have more than enough to take up the slack until he can come back in the rotation I like it you guys are dropping some serious knowledge tonight I uh I think uh just to join the the fun of being an overreactor I I I do think that uh my number is 10 so my overreaction is uh whatever we are under 10 turnovers in the game we will win okay okay whenever whenever we’re under 10 we will win not at halftime the whole game right not at whole game and I think the the underreaction for me just based on what I’m seeing from from uh the our our our ladies Squad is that I I believe that we are going to see um a true defensive identity that’ll make make it hard for us to you know lose games when it gets close because if we play defense as well as we’re doing now and make that our identity I think we’ll have blowouts you know we’ll have close games but we’ll never be out of it so you know I I love the fact the defense is maturing quicker than the offense when it comes to our Squad so that’s that’s my over and under reaction um I know if you all are listening in we’d love to hear your over and under reactions as well uh shout out to to the fact that we like to speculate as fans on the most incredible things that could occur just because we love Howard and we love basketball and with that i’ like to to give e a chance to tell us so what is good for basketball e what’s good for basketball this week what’s good for basketball is appreciating the history of the game and in that Spirit today I actually watched I rewatched as a matter of fact the best of enemies a 30 for30 uh series about the Lakers and the Celtic rivalry right and uh it kind of put me in the spirit of you know the things that draw people to basketball one if you really love it and two if you’re just sort of a blay person right and um you know magic and bird really brought everybody to the table in terms of what you can love about the game you know regardless of where you fall in terms of your knowledge base and that kind of thing right so so watching that I literally got a little Misty watching it and as I was watching it who pops up on the screen but Larry Sprigs [Laughter] twice as a matter of fact on the screen twice I said oh man wow you know a true Howard fan is gonna go hey look at that we just having another ATU moment in the middle of I love that so it was it was really cool man to kind of watch you know what we we gonna get you a trench coat for the next episode you you going deep in your bag Columbo on that one that’s that’s that’s that’s awesome E I appreciate you doing that because I I have a bonus too though by what’s that what you got for us well the bonus was you know since we’re sort of novice podcasters right speak for yourself my microphone is real fair enough fair enough two things came up right I was watching the pivot podcast and who had on some Howard Air Jordan gear but one of the participants Channing uh Crowder I think his name is okay a Howard shirt I was like oh wow check this out man I was I was super impressed with that for two reasons uh they are now sponsored by Fanatics right so they were kind of a independent podcast and then next thing you know Fanatics wanted to kind of jump in the podcast game and is one of their main sponsors now and why do I love Fanatics because that’s the first place I start seeing Howard gear on a sort of national platform being sold like outside of the bookstore so that’s right that was like a double whammy for me like oh wow check that out man I thought that that was really cool man I thought that was and good for basketball it was definitely good for basketball I appreciate that E I appreciate that e i was gon say just for the audience if the audience does not know Eric you want to tell them who Larry sprigs is oh okay okay you know what you know well I’m just going to put it on out there Larry sprigs was the first at least in my opinion I want to ask you this guys I want to ask you this later on you know in my opinion he is the penultimate uh Howard Bas men’s basketball alumni you know he has a NBA championship ring uh they went to the tournament if I’m not mistaken when he was a player uh and he was a Joo transfer so in that sense he’s sort of the uh initial representation of the portal if you will right so yeah I I just was always and this is before television everything and it was one of the reasons I even actually considered going to Howard you know it’s a really shallow reason but I was like oh wow man they got Larry Springs basketball going on and then somebody from my high school went to Howard as well so you know it kind of got my attention out of HBCU even back then you know was getting some NBA traction uh you know and uh you know to continue in the stalker mode be you know on his on his LinkedIn page he he still has a relationship with the Lakers and Magic Johnson separately nice so you know he’s he’s a big deal in my book man he’s a big deal I love that manv he is he is I think I think as we continue to uh reveal the what’s good for basketball I I I can’t wait to see the connection to how we need to D double down or quadruple down on our our recruiting out of the DMV area that’s a a hot B of talent if we can just get them to come on down Georgia Avenue and spend some time with us we we may be able to make that dream Factory a reality know I mean that’s awesome man maybe we can get old Larry Spriggs on the on the podcast so I’m working on it as long as you know my parole officer don’t say that yeah as long as he doesn’t as long as he maintains a certain distance I think we might be okay so we we gonna have to make some money on this podcast for bail we gonna need bail money let’s let’s do it I I like it though we we definitely got a list is starting to grow for us to to get some guests on here especially as we uh continue to make our way through the non-conference schedule and get ready for the conference schedule which is coming up in a few short weeks man it’s going to be uh pretty awesome pretty awesome yes sir what you got for me uh I got one more good for basketb if it’s if it’s if it’s allowed if time allows you know I was so impressed with uh seeing coaches uh appearance on CBS uh I I just thought that was awesome man to see the way they featured him uh the way they talked about his roots and frankly to acknowledge his coaching prowess you know what I mean shout out to Kenny Blakey man he’s doubt man no doubt about that yeah no it was it was definitely a good A good episode a good feature uh you know learned a lot uh I I can’t wait hopefully we can get coach on the podcast we can take an even deeper dive into his philosophy and you know things of that nature but it was it was awesome to see on on Thanksgiving a CVS feature on our coach yeah yeah chip I appreciate you uh being on top of that and pulling my coil so I didn’t didn’t end up missing it I even went on there to see if you could get a replay couldn’t find it so you know uh we’ll have to we’ll have to see if we can find a sample of it so we can bring it on to upcoming episodes but let’s work on it I I I know that uh like you mentioned e with seeing Larry sprigs in a in a documentary just happen to be rewatching you know whenever we see any of our uh Howard folks we tend to get excited but uh especially on the sports side we we’re getting a lot more Prime Time coverage which just lets us know we’re we’re investing the right way so shout out to Howard University shout out to the athletic Depo program kri Davis we don’t talk about a lot but his vision as the athletic director is allowing us to experience a amen unparal unparalleled uh time uh to be a Howard sports fan as as KD would say krie Davis you’re the real MVP boy these Impressions man you have to pay somebody man these Impressions this is awesome this is awesome so hey man another another great episode Brothers uh episode five we got a chance to recap some uh really competitive games our women were able to get split in the last two games they played our Men played tough uh got a good 36 minutes out of a 40-minute game out of both games so we’re going to work work on those last couple of minutes see if we can close them out uh th this week we only to got a couple of games on on tap so I know for us we’re looking forward to uh in addition to this episode drop in an episode where we can talk a little bit about some of the uh folks that have signed on to play with us next year so uh look for that in an upcoming broadcast as well but uh thanks for for listening as always chip you want to take us home hey as always first of all like you said just thank everybody for watching the podcast remember hit that
