now back to overdrive with Hayes noodles and the O dog happy Festivus it’s Festival when George was growing up no his father nothing it’s nothing it’s a stupid holiday my father invented it doesn’t exist George Festivus is your heritage it is part of who you are welcome newus the tradition of Festivus begins with the Airing of Grievances I got lot of problems with you people now you’re going to hear about it oh [Applause] God overdraft continues here on the TSN Radio Network also up on TSN plus Mike Toano Jason strudwick and Dave feschuk with me and uh it’s Festivus Festivus for the rest of us I know Str you’re a big time Seinfeld guy absolutely love it and uh I was actually a little I got aged a little bit and look I’m I’m yeah I’m a little younger than you two not to age you guys but now I’m starting to feel aged a bit because Doogie Hower who’s 20 years old 22 years old the other day I said Hey Monday we got to air our grievances it’s Festivus and he had no idea what I was talking about wow no idea come on no clue I’m like do you understand that reference he’s like no no I don’t Seinfeld come on new these newbies don’t watch Stein yoube it you can YouTube it doie yeah it’s awesome anyways apparently Doogie despite not even knowing what the aing of grievances means or is has a grievance to air with me before we get into things here we go doie commissioner Doogie doie McMahon W brother I have to I have to pick a bone with you here in the last segment you kind of threw someone under the bus his name is Jonas seagull mhm oh Jonas but you were the one who decided to give Jonas the claim to make the pick so I can’t stand for that I have to air my grievance there you go you know I gave him the opportunity to make the correct decision he happened to not do so however pass in the buck that’s what that is that’s what that is that’s what that is so you thought you were walking him down the path well I gave him the tremendous information I I I I laid out the Spiel and I let him know hey here’s the reason why Baltimore is going to win now just back me up and he did not he came out like no I think the Steelers are going to win that was it that’s all he said and that was enough for Hayes to choose to choose uh choose Jon I I think Al’s brothers made a case here he was well within his rights to throw Jonas under the bus it’s a fair case but he it just sounded like it was Jonas’s fault well it was it was it was his fault Jonas takes Baltimore we take Baltimore it was Jonas you could have made that pick brother yeah we were split hazy B and I were split we’ll be honest so we needed to hear from a third and uh I lost on the vote but that’s okay it’s all right we still move on luckily those losers also uh didn’t pick any winners this weekend you’re still plus one am I right plus one yeah we’re up plus one you were like plus eight you the you the lead is dwindled well we were also minus 9 at one point so we’ve it’s it’s been a big big swing big swing and we got another pick tonight coming up in uh in about 35 minutes or so Luke will be in and uh yeah we got to make that Monday night pick but let’s get to the Airing of Grievances fellas and uh why don’t you start Dave why don’t you give us something that you would like to air your grievances with all right my grievance is with Canada seven hockey teams those NHL teams none of whom have won a Stanley Cup since 1993 I was brother and ready um this has got to happen guys as we awake today six of the seven teams that hail from this great nation are in the NHL Playoff Picture This has to be the year the first year since 93 that Canada wins the Stanley Cup we got to wish it speak it want it into existence here and 2025 has got to be the Year guys if not I will have an even bigger grievance with a what 32-year drought Canada to win a cup it is a long time my entire lifetime realistically I’ve never seen a Stanley Cup risen on Canadian soil ever that’s just sad yeah stry how do you explain it I well I you know what I if I knew I’d probably be a GM or even better a president and just last forever in that go exactly um I think though I feel like right now there’s a lot of talent north of the Border look look at some of these teams Vancouver Edmonton uh Winnipeg Tonto Ottawa young Talent there Montreal there’s some accumulation of talent there um so I think that there’s as much or more Talent there has ever been and it’s relatively young or in its prime so I think we’re going to hopefully see a few be rattled off here uh in the next number of years I hope a few I’ll take one Str we’ll start with one Fair Point fair point but I mean I think if one gets a taste then maybe other teams jump on the on the on the uh on the on the band wi and get it going if you had to pick one team who you think is the closest to ending the drought who would it be I’m looking out str’s way I mean clearly McDavid and his fellas came close was nearly an epic historic comeback and man Winnipeg’s number one in the league right now they just finished up it’s gone final Winnipeg 5-2 over Toronto number one in the league right now heading into the Christmas break yeah but they’ve got a pretty substantial history of not showing up when it matters thank you thank you they’re the San Jose Sharks I’ve picked them to win many many years and I’ve been wrong so I can’t I can’t you know if you if you kick me in the junk enough times I’ll I’ll finally believe you and so now I’m like I I don’t want to be that CU I was at with the sharks and I’m not with the the Jets I’m out I’m out all right stry time for you to air your GRS enough I don’t want to hear from the West Coast that they’re fighting uh EP and obviously Miller they’re frustrated each other listen guys if one of you doesn’t if someone wants to break up and leave that’s fine but that city is incredible you’ve got a good team there you both got good contracts they got a good coach you’ve got a good group if one you gets traded look at your salary cap hit where do you think you’re going how do you sp how do you spell buffalo I’ll tell you how last place that’s where you’re going so I don’t want and hear about it figure it out get in a room a padded room with just no windows no doors come out you know 72 hours later after Christmas and find some love for each other because you got a good thing going on and unfortunately you don’t know it till you end up somewhere else ask Jack yeah yeah well Jack eel went on to win a Stanley Cup though it did good but he was in Buffalo and it was he was not happy now he’s the happiest guy the happiest redhead I’ve seen for a thousand years well I think we have the audio from cuz like this is a big talking point right now pon JT Miller and the team and how you know there’s this reported Rift between the two here’s what they had to say today when asked about it that’s still going on yeah well it’s same answer it’s it’s good um I don’t know why people still try to make up uh excuse my language but um yeah that’s my responsive so it hasn’t been distracting you oh my god next [Music] question who wants that bothered by the reporting about you and py I’m not listen you guys you a sense the outer world have created this thing like this isn’t a thing so am I bothered no but you guys are just wasting your time how feel about hearing of it I don’t care you guys want to talk about it you want to ask me ask me all you want I can bring up PD and we can do the interview together if that would make you guys Happy what about what about shutting out the noise GT this team has always been so good about it no matter what year it is about anything regarding the team listen I have a lot of stuff to worry about right now for myself I’m I’m not worried about any noise the noises between my ears and I’m trying to figure out how to play a good 200 foot game for the team but you know what you mean to this group and PD obviously knows what he means to this group and right now not a whole lot happening for either one of you guys like can this team get where it needs to go without production from from you two where do we want to go I would assume to the playoffs first of all be on that okay so we yeah you want yeah it’ be great if we could have 100 points for sure that would be ideal right so we’re just trying to play the right way points will come when they come these guys just want to stuff every reporter in a locker for that line of questioning well Al’s brother let’s you know give credit where it’s due I mean you asked the question to former conect coach Bruce Buro about this very topic and Buro acknowledged that there was some kind of a rift in his you know knowledge to his knowledge there was a rift between these two guys before he got there as Vancouver Coach and he’s not sure where it stands now he hopes they brushed it under the rug but he he he was the first one to speak the fact that there was a history there between these two guys and the exact current state of it we don’t know but it doesn’t exactly look like it’s nothing no Leafs facing Center crisis amid injuries eyeing trade market for Solutions as the Toronto Maple Leafs battle through a growing injury list and a suspension their lack of depth at the center position has become a glaring issue according to sports Net’s Elliot Friedman in his latest 32 thoughts article the Leafs are among the teams exploring trade options to bolster their lineup this effort is coming amid increasing competition from teams like the Chicago Blackhawks and Nashville Predators who have also set their sights on improving their Center depth fredman didn’t mince words about the Leaf’s predicament the teams currently focusing on centers including Chicago and Nashville must consider when others will enter the market Toronto will undoubtedly be one of those teams he wrote while the Blackhawks and predators may have an edge in terms of cap space and assets the Leafs remain a team to watch as the season progresses the leaf situation is UR urgent with up to seven forwards currently unavailable due to injury or suspension Ryan Reeves is serving a five-game suspension while key players like Austin Matthews upper body Matthew KES upper body Caye jro groin SL sports hernia David Camp lower body Max doy lower body and Max pasori lower body are all sidelined the team has even considered temporarily shifting Mitch Marner to the center position highlighting the severity of their depth issues this isn’t just a short-term concern for the Leafs depth at Center has been a persistent challenge for the team and while stop Gap Solutions like Marner could help in the interim the front office appears Keen to explore longer term fixes for fans of the blue and white this has been a recurring theme the Leaf’s Center depth often becomes a problem at the worst possible times James Myrtle of the athletic recently added more fuel to the speculation naming several potential trade targets who could help the Leafs address their issues among them is Ryan O’Reilly a familiar name for Toronto fans O’Reilly who signed a 4-year $18 million deal with Nashville in 2023 might be a trade candidate if the Predators underwhelming start to the season 6-1 11-3 31st in the league prompts a rebuild however his steep price tag and history with the Leafs including rejecting a free agency offer less than 2 years ago make this a complex and potentially unlikely move other names mentioned by Myrtle include former Leaf nazam cadri currently with Calgary as well as players like Michael grenland Nick jugad Brock Nelson Yanni gourd Trent Frederick rodek foxa and Shan carali while some of these options seem more plausible than others it’s clear that general manager Brad tring will need to get creative to find the right piece without mortgaging the team’s future cap space remains one of the biggest obstacles for the Leafs unlike teams like Chicago and Nashville which have more flexibility and assets Toronto is walking a financial tit Trope as fredman noted competition will intensify as capc constrained teams strive to create room for the Leafs that could mean waiting for the market to develop further a risky move given their current needs the situation also highlights the Leaf’s ongoing struggle to build a roster that can withstand the grueling nature of an NHL season injuries are an inevitability in hockey but Toronto’s current predicament underscores the importance of depth a quality the team has struggled to consistently maintain looking back on recent years the Leafs have often leaned heavily on their star players particularly Matthews Marner and William nander while these players have delivered in Spades the lack of reliable depth options has left the team vulnerable in critical moments the current crisis at Center is merely the latest example of this recurring issue some fans have called for more aggressive moves from TR living arguing that now is the time to strike while the team’s core is in its prime others however are more cautious pointing to the dangers of overpaying for short-term fixes striking the right balance will be key especially as the Leafs aim to keep their Championship window open despite the challenges there’s no denying that Toronto has the talent to be a contender provided they can patch up their lineup the ongoing rumors and speculations surrounding potential trades show that the Leafs are at least exploring every Avenue to strengthen their roster for fans of the blue and white this moment feels like a pivotal point in the season with a lineup ravage by injuries and a tough schedule ahead the Leafs must act decisively to avoid falling behind in the standings the addition of a Dependable Center could be the difference between weathering the storm or watching another season slip away whether it’s O’Reilly cadri or another surprise name one thing is certain the Leafs are under pressure to deliver and for a fan base as passionate and loyal as Toronto there’s no room for excuses the time to act is now and Leaf’s nation is watching closely as the trade deadline approaches the stakes couldn’t be higher will tra living pull off a move that solidifies the leaf status as a contender or will the search for Center depth become yet another chapter in the team’s long history of Whata ifs only time will tell but one thing’s for sure it’s never boring in leaf land as the Maple Leafs navigate this critical juncture their fan base remains as vocal as ever Toronto is a city that breathes hockey and the pressure on Brad TR living to make the Right Moves is immense every decision he makes or doesn’t make will be scrutinized from talk radio to social media where Leaf’s nation is already debating the merits of the various names being floated as potential trade targets among the louder debates is whether the team should prioritize a high-profile acquisition like Ryan O’Reilly or nazam cadri or focus on a lower cost reliable Center who can fill a supporting role without costing too many future assets while O’Reilly’s leadership and playoff experience make him an attractive option his contract and recent history with the Leafs add layers of complexity to any potential reunion similarly kadri’s gritty two-way play style remains a fan favorite but his cap hit and availability might render him an unrealistic Target another Factor complicating the leaf situation is their tight salary cap while Chicago and Nashville can make moves with relative ease due to their financial ibility Toronto must navigate a Labyrinth of constraints to make any trade work this likely means including salary retention or moving existing contracts to make room which could drive up the cost of any potential deal the question then becomes how much are the Leafs willing to sacrifice to address their immediate needs one potential trade partner generating Buzz is the Seattle Kraken Yanni gourd a Dependable two-way Center has been mentioned as a possible Target gourd’s versatility and Championship pedigree from his time with Tampa Bay make him an appealing option Seattle however is in playoff contention and may not be inclined to part with a key piece unless the Leafs can provide a substantial return another intriguing name is Brock Nelson of the New York Islanders Nelson is a consistent scorer and reliable Faceoff man qualities that would undoubtedly bolster Toronto’s Center depth however the Islanders are notoriously cautious when it comes to trades and prying Nelson away would likely require a significant package including picks or prospects that the Leafs may be hesitant to part with for all the trade talk some analysts believe the solution might come from within Sheldon Keefe has shown a willingness to experiment with his lineup and players like pontis halberg or Fraser Minon could be given an opportunity to step up while relying on less experienced players carries risks it might be the Leaf’s only option if the trade market proves too costly or slow to develop adding to the Leaf’s urgency is the timing the Atlantic division remains one of the toughest in the league with teams like Boston Florida and Tampa Bay continuing to dominate any prolonged slump could see Toronto slip further down the standings putting their playoff hopes in Jeopardy for a team with Stanley Cup aspirations failing to address their weaknesses could have catastrophic consequences Brad TR living’s history as a general manager suggests he’s not afraid to make bold moves his time with the Calgary Flames was marked by Blockbuster trades including the acquisition of Jonathan hubero and McKenzie weager in the Matthew kachuck deal Leaf’s fans hope he brings that same decisiveness to Toronto especially as the trade deadline Lo s beyond the immediate need for a center this situation underscores a broader issue with a Leaf’s roster construction depth has been a perennial concern and while Toronto boasts some of the League’s top-end Talent their Reliance on a handful of stars has left them vulnerable in moments like this moving forward addressing this imbalance must be a priority for the front office if the team is to achieve sustained success as the Leafs head into a critical stretch of the season the next few weeks could Define their trajectory
