he’s done it one chance one goal anesh Ryan congratulations another Late Late Show from Bournemouth anesh we must start with you and that free kick what was in your mind the minute that it was awarded at that stage of the game yeah I just checked the distance and it it was my distance you know I try to shoot from everywhere this free kicks this shot but this that distance was perfect and I just imagine you know Ryan have you seen many of those training quite a few yeah he’s been showing me on YouTube as well when he gets a chance but um yeah credit to him um big moment um especially reaction as well after coning the penalty I thought the boys were brilliant and um sometimes you need a moment of magic like that to to get back level you mentioned the penalty we must touch on that it’s obviously an onfield decision by the referee having gone and had a look at the screen did you get a view of it has much been said amongst the players in the short time you’ve had um I saw it just just on the the big screen probably like uh most people I thought it was harsh I know his hands high but um he’s so kind of close to the ball um and I think their Striker can of misses a sitter afterwards so Sur there’s a maybe an advantage being played we didn’t get one last week against dip switch for similar scenario so um bit frustrating um especially cuz second half I think we we dominated um the play but um like I said good to get a point in the end anesh the manager with his substitutions has been making a real difference how much confidence what does does he say when he sends you on From the Bench I mean not much just a couple of details always he has something in his mind he always reads something sees something and yeah a lot of times it works Ryan how good a moment are Bournemouth in at this moment in time it’s a record number of points in a Premier League season at this stage you’re unbeaten in your last fall what is the direction of travel positive um you know we want to we want to keep going try and keep the sunbe and run going um you know we we knew tonight would be a tough game but if we weren’t going to win it we didn’t want to lose it so we need to take the positives from that obviously um couple of big games coming up over the the festive period um we know that if you kind of do well there and and we keep going on this run we can really put ourselves in a in a good place going in the New Year if there’s one area of slight Improvement in a team that’s obviously progressing 29 Shots tonight is there a need to be more clinical at times in matches particularly in tight Affairs like this possibly but we need to take the positives that we’re we’re getting into positions um like that that’s a a good start to have in the Premier League against any team um so you know it’s it’s hard to to be frustrated with it um I think on another night we could score two or three goals so um you know take that into the coming games we’ll be all right and anesh is that another one for the YouTube social media collection how quick will that be going up tonight yeah I will be watching for sure well listen enjoy rewatching it and well done you are the player of the match Ryan do the honors thanks brother thank thank you thanks guys yeah we’ll have a look at that free kick again in a moment we talking about the shots there um for Bournemouth anyway but look at the the total shots in the game 45 which is the most of any Premier League game this season 29 of them for Bournemouth which I think shocked us all um but anyway the free kick he was talking about we’ll have a look in a moment what about as you alluded to the disappointing challenge for which it was awarded yeah you defended a one- nil lead away from home where your teams’s worked really really hard and what you don’t want to do is give them a bone give them any sort of a Sniff and this there was no need when I was going away from the goal you set as a team you say okay have the ball we’re going to survive this bit of pressure that’s all we need to do didn’t do that saw a little chance of a nibble went for it and it cost him and that was a minute 55 seconds after pakar scored the penalty which we’ll see in a moment but what about this free kick from MOA second time running he’s come off the bench and scores yeah and he said didn’t he this is the ideal distance for him it gives him plenty of time to get it up over the wall and back down so you know and you can see as well they they’ve worked on it the Bournemouth players they’re creating that wall themselves um you know so that it blocks the the view of the goalkeeper and it’s just brilliant it’s got Pace it’s got dip it’s got bend on it it’s fabulous absolutely fabulous I do question from a defensive point of view we’ll go into it in a minute because you know we’ve got an expert goalkeeper Sat by us but I do wonder whether in that situation you create a rod for your own back by having a wall you having all those players blocking the the goalkeeper line of sight we’ll get a better view in a minute we’ll get Rob’s take on it but I just feel as if you clear everybody you’re that far out and you stand in the middle of the goal I’d be unsure whether you could score from there what do you say to that goalkeeper being expert there is a theory in that I think you’re creating is convention that says you should have a wall there but in that respect Bournemouth could make their own wall there anyway which they have done in some respects Lucas Fabian is an experienced goalkeeper what it does do that wall in front of him is create that barrier where he can’t see anything and because of his experience with so little time left in the game he’s going I tell you what I’m not doing is gambling it’s going to be something special that beats me when we saw the dist before we’re talking a shop from 30 yards there actually when it gets over the wall by the time he sees it it’s 17 16 yards out and you look at Lucas faban now he can’t see anything he can’t gamble by the time he moves there the balls travel 12 15 yards it makes it n impossible for him to answer your question yeah I think when I was playing the theory was you started to grow more and more confident within the goal and you say actually along those similar lines have less and less of a wall you look look there un’s the only player to be there over the ball it’s only going to be a right-footed player going over the wall that side there’s no need for half that wall but convention says you put up a big wall you don’t want to be that guy with two minutes to go to take that risk and that’s my point because everybody’s done it for many many years just continue some one goalkeeper will do it soon I’m telling you no one will have a wall anyway from 30 odd yards if you’re on the edge of the box I get it you need a wall because the pace can beat you but I’ve got no doubts of this man or of any decent goalkeeper stands in the middle of the goal there is no way it goes past them he can’t see that ball for the first 10 yards the Wall’s got to be 10 yards so it’s it’s already picked up a load of speed and it’s at least 10 meters closer to the goal before he even sees it so then he’s got no time at all it it just creates a problem that I don’t think they need to do goalkeepers especially from that far out but who’s going to be the bravest to just say no wall I’m in control it’ll happen soon I think it’s it’s something you should have done it well I know I well it’s the same as the player lying down the the draft excluder behind the Why did no one think of this and it’s been a a game changer in that regard you just think the only thing that you would say is Bournemouth can still put that wall up they can still put those players there you look at that the two on the right hand side the ball’s never going to go near them move them out the way protect them you’re the center of the goal a bit more gives yourself a fraction more of a chance but I just don’t it’s such a good free kick my last point on it right I bet you what would happen if you take your wall down what would happen you just touched on it Bournemouth would put their own wall up and and that says everything the opposition the the the free kick taker wants a wall he wants a reference point he wants to be able to hit it over and dip over something he wants the goalkeeper on one side of the other so he gets more room to aim at he wants all of those things so we as I say if the defensive wall just moves I bet what would happen is Bournemouth would put their own wall up in that situation and then all of a sudden it’s it’s the same thing but let them do that you know you can’t stop that but I’d be fascinated to see it and I think someone should try it interesting okay um let’s hear from the man who couldn’t stop it uh Lucas fabianski Lucas having taken the lead so late how disappointed are you not to hang on take all three points oh uh don’t know how to describe it really if if I’m disappointed obviously you know coming into this game we knew that like a very tough team to play against they proved it so many times this year that they have a lot of um energy strength uh uh they’re very good uh when it comes to physical preparation so they always keep going until very last minute so uh no uh you have to admit that you know they created many chances uh tonight and uh uh obviously we wanted to to to win uh late goal he always gives you like a belief that it’s almost there but but you have to give credit to to bomb of Team Co because uh you know they they were decent side tonight as well so so uh overall yeah uh there always like a feeling of this oppon at the same time I think uh playing away from home against the team that uh uh this season already bit uh top teams uh uh I think uh uh in the end uh it’s a good point for us I think it’s a good point he was also honest enough to say Bournemouth created a lot of chances he actually made eight saves tonight Lucas fabianski he was stretched on a number of occasions yeah and it took something special to beat him and and we saw a pretty slow first half and this was probably right at the death the best of it and you’re looking at one where we’re saying at halim or Mo was saying the players were going safety with the strikes that one certainly was he got hit by the ball but he got defended really well in front of the goal and all those shots were under pressure so you’re not looking at Big chances where the players got time their snapshots their shots on the edge of the Box you look at the numbers that are back he’s giving himself a chance but what he did do really well was be set and be set for the shots which is having you feet on the ground you’re not in the air when the ball’s being struck that that gives you so much of a chance this is a really good example near post header he’s actually got both feet on his ground and you can just about make out when contact’s made he’s ready he’s hands are there and he can make that save if you’re still up in the air that cuts into your time a bit like a wall would do all these strikes again you just look at his footwork wait for it wait for his strike and his feet are on the ground and ready that buys in the time for those saves really good performance from him from tonight at the age of 39 he’s going strong isn’t he yeah absolutely there’s um you know we all know goalkeepers can probably last a little bit longer than the Outfield players uh even though their workload takes a toll on their body but uh no he played very well tonight let There was no saves there that if any of those had gone in you’d say oh goalkeeper maybe should have but it’s easy saying that you’ve got to be in the position as Rob said You’ got to be set you got to be angles right you know that little flick header at the near post I’ve seen lots of goalkeepers having slower reactions let’s say to that so he he did play well and he ended up having no chance with the free kick because of circumstances that we’ve uh we’ve already outlined but no good performance from him and and well deserved a one point right on to the way that Bournemouth conceded the penalty for West Ham to take the lead Ryan Christie’s a little frustrated where are we with this frustration with the law R rather than the interpretation tonight yeah we saw from pretty much the the reactions of everybody all around it was almost a shrug the arm is up yes it’s very close it is a natural reaction that when you throw yourself to block a ball that you are going to put your arm up like that and it is incredibly harsh yeah well you know my stance on it Steve I can’t stand hand balls but you know penalties for hand balls however I don’t think anybody can argue with that the hands in a in in a wrong position it does touch the arm the rules suggests that that’s a penalty I I just it I mean that I agree with Rob that that is a natural position when you stretch your arms go up it is natural you’re not close the ball as well isn’t he it is close but and the ironic thing is the flick of the the arm it actually presents West Ham with a brilliant chance vulk gets in there nips in in front of his man has a free header it should have been a goal anyway um and just that tiny little brush it pains me to say it because I hate it but it I I just can’t see any other decision but a hand ball and what a cool penalty this was you know he has a little stop halfway through watches the goalkeeper make a little move and yeah he puts it the other side great penalty when a player takes that little stutter or run up the only option he can do to really put any power into it is to go the side he is to get that whip on the ball if he goes the way that keer goes it’s too slow of a penalty my feeling is whenever I did it if a player does that run up and it’s so hard to get it right you tempted to go that side just because they’re watching you you’re watching them but if you wait long enough to think I’ve got to go to the P side I can get the power he did do that and he just you just feel that yeah it’s Mind Games within Mind Games Within mind games but you stick to that braet principle you give yourself a chance on the penalty as a goalkeeper I presume you don’t like it when players watch and and decide late yeah it’s the worst it’s the hardest you got to get the timing right you’ve got 15 previous penalties going off in your head of where he went and stuff like that and all the time he’s just got his eyes on you yeah and he knows what he’s talking about because there’s only six more goalkeepers in premier league history you’ve saved more penalties than Rob Green nine of them he saved save one of mine no never got the chance never got the chance yeah good you were off him by then good right let’s get some reaction from the West Ham manager Julian loagy julen first of all your thoughts and observations on your side’s performance here tonight I think that it has been a Pity we we were thinking to to be able to win in one very difficult stadium and we we has been very very close uh is to that def my opinion the first half we we were better the second half they do one step ahead and they they push a lot one thing that they they demand a lot at home we suffer a little bit in the second half but we were able to overcome this moment to score and after was a pett incredible goal about unal and in the end was a a a draw one point okay we were thinking about three points but I think that we have compete very really well against one team that Dem man a lot here I think that despite they have more shoot we have more expected goals but than the them and we we we have been very very dangerous both in the first half so okay we have to keep the the positive things that I think there are a lot today and we have played in the end with two players of the academy it’s good thing for for for the the the young players too and with five players out today so I think that it’s good good news about the group about the pack about the the stren about the uh to believe has has a team and to work has a team yeah I mean he’s he’s making the point that Arsenal City and Spurs have all lost at that stadium and they haven’t yeah quietly thrilled I think with that performance they played their game he said it in the first half we were the stronger side we were in control and he didn’t want to get into a boxing match in that game and I don’t think they did they they suffered towards the end they put the bodies on the line but everything was done at a pace that suited them it was a really good solid away performance within the Premier League context that you’re saying if we play to their strengths or we get lured into their game we’re going to suffer a lot more than we did and yeah they were close to what was a really good away win yeah West Ham would have gone into that game West Ham fans little bit nervous I think you know their form is up and down their away form is patchy they won last time out yes but it was against wolves who are getting beaten by everybody at the moment I think West Ham fans will be absolutely delighted grabbing a point and it wasn’t a lucky point you know they they played reasonably well uh they caused Bournemouth problems themselves so I think it’s a job well done uh tonight from from West Ham and they’ll go back to London with a point in their bag and and reasonably happy okay uh back to the Penalty we’ve heard Rob and Michael’s view here is Anon Iola on it obviously you fall behind to a goal from the penalty spot that the referee goes to the screen has a look comes back Awards the penalty what is your feeling and view I’m very disappointed very disappointed especially for the way they call the penalty because we’ve had this argument in the meeting they do before the season and they especially tell us and I argued personally I said because they don’t want the Defenders to tell the Defenders to defend with the hands of the back and I answered and I told them yeah we are going to continue telling this because you are calling the penalty so I don’t want to lose a game because of this no no don’t worry it’s a natural position we are not going to kill it if and and boom the first one so you think K’s Army is in a natural of course everyone has played football if you go in with a speed to to block across you one one of the hands is going to go up and the other one down is is the most natural you know it hasn’t even affected the cross because if I would say hasn’t affected even the direction has made it even even better because they almost scored the goal and I’m very disappointed because especially we I complained about this rule I I explain the I asked to explain because they didn’t want the players to defend and naturally let let’s say and they were say no no don’t worry that is natural we are not going to call it okay will you be asking for another explanation now no now it’s late the explanation now I don’t care about the explanation now I I I want them to take the decision that they are going to say that they say that they are going to take and today obviously didn’t happen has he a point can you empathize with him I can I I can and and that is it is a fair assessment in terms of he’s not trying to hand ball it you know why would he try there’s no advantage in trying to hand ball it there that is a natural position that’s where his arms went because it was natural as he stretches out he’s absolutely right one arm always goes up in that case two arms go up go up it’s a little bit like jumping your arms have to come up so it is a natural position however however what because he’s come from La Liga where we see that would be given a penalty every day they but they they fend with their arms behind their back and that’s what the Premier League have said we don’t want to see and that’s what’s been explained to the managers he’s saying that there so therefore he’s told his players not to defend like that no and they have and now they’ve considered a penalty no I know but referees or the rule book will say that’s in an unnatural position making we in subjective areas here then well yeah I mean but it’s all is isn’t it that’s you know unless the ball is over the line or not over virtually give that on field did he no he didn’t but it would have been hard to see he only just flicked his arm it would have been very hard to see I don’t so somebody else in V AR’s interpretation might have been different I I think the interpretation is is the arm is up it’s away from the body it’s up around the head range and that’s why it’s been given the most unnatural position for a player to have is for their to have their hands behind the back that’s a and but if it hits him when they’re there it’s not given we say that’s naturally unnatural or unnaturally natural whichever way you want to put it that’s accepted but this isn’t accepted it’s a role written by someone who’s never played football before and I think there is the problem we see it throughout Europe that they’re interpreted differently and we’re in a place in the Premier League where it’s nuanced and at times there are instances like this where they are given and it’s that gray area which causes the real problem because people within football don’t like it it’s always going to be a matter of opinion the referee has gone to the the the screen and then decided it’s so he’s seen it as well and agree with it listen I don’t like it either but it is a penalty in this day and age okay we must end this debate here and now in the end it was 1 from the three of us we’ll see you next time
