to the mat after a tough showing 8 to3 against the eventual state champion Norther Highlands and going up against a Morristown team that lost a lot of scoring and they found themselves kind of in the bottom of this division the past couple of years but Sean they’ve got some new faces out here on this team including one in between the pipes and Ry Conover yeah Conover Let’s uh give him a look there he is he’s been with this squad uh you know a guy that’s been with been with this program for a long time knows what he’s doing with the with with skating and everything so he’s at least got that g down so he’s done everything that he’s can to kind of do his best John kenii impression um and why not do it against Randol to start that just makes sense right um and uh you know right now it’s a kind of a year from what I’ve been told anyway it’s kind of a you know con Conover is going to do this year for a year and then I’ve that Morris will actually have themselves a pretty decent goenda over you know I see warm-ups he looks like he’s you know definitely serviceable uh cam treta is also a converted lacrosse player as well um you see him right there so you listen that was the key for this Colonials team they’re going to have a big roster they’re going to have numbers it was just going to be who is between pipes um just had some rotten luck this year that they didn’t get any uh any newcomer goalies this year for whatever reason so but it looks like R Conover is going to do a nice serviceable job and I think he’s going to the team’s going to be right behind him uh full support of it and Charlie he’s going to have his work cut out for him today going up against a rph team that averaged over six goals a game last season and their average margin of victory was over five goals tell us a little bit about this Randolph team that looks like they could be right back in the mix for a State title run well they’re a team that easily could be in that state t run 221 and one last last year their only lost in a State final against a Powerhouse in Northern Highlands and they brought back the Melly Brothers they brought back back Drew George and you can’t talk about Randolph hockey without talking about Jon sangara who in the nj.com preseason predictions they both of the nj.com writers had Jason angara as a Player of the Year candidate in the state of New Jersey he had 70 points last year and based on what we’ve seen from last year if he turns that into anything more this year he could be an 80o player for the Randolph Rams and lead them to a state championship zangara is just that great of a player when he’s on the ice yeah it seems like he’s playing a different game and just The Supporting Cast is unbelievable Vinnie Chris Foy had 36 points last year Drew George had 52 points last year Keegan Melly 27 35 for Shane Milly Daniel shy you can’t forget about had 44 points Ryan Thomas 25 for I mean the list just goes on and on and on this team only lost John kenii their starting goenda white and Ashton fineberg that’s it they bring everybody else back and their new net Miner that they’ve got coming in today he might be small but he’s Mighty Zack Levesque according to his recruiting profile he’s on the New Jersey jets 14U and he had quite the season in 2024 a85 that’s a 085 goals against average he’s A9 48 save percentage of five shutouts Sean yeah so those are good numbers and this listen that’s the 14 UAA level but quite frankly those are also numbers that are like as if he was just kind of bored and you know you know he was able to make a sandwich while making saves it was that easy for him at that level so we’ll see what he’s doing he’s up for the challenge I think if you’re warin you got to you got to take shots on this kid early I mean I think it’s only fair uh to them to see what this kid can do early cuz it’s going to be everybody in the state’s first look at the new goenda on him as well that’s for sure now Zack Lees I mean a lot of eyes are going to be on him because Randolph even though they didn’t win the state championship last year they were one game short of even making it to the potential Center uh they certainly have a Target on their back particularly in the mcss IHL they didn’t lose any games again until that one contest and their only uh tie last year was against parochial school so I mean they were the best public school team uh raided last year and then of course Northern Highlands went on a really good run and actually uh stepped all over uh the mcss IHL Med and on the way Charlie they beat chadam first and then they beat Randol so we’ll see what they can do against this Mor down Colonial scheme and you know I’m excited to see some of these Fresh Faces over on Morristown they’re a team that’s always been kind of at the bottom of that men in division but they’ve always been able to stick around with a lot of the big teams a lot of player to look for toito romanenko if he is out there H he’s a freshman that I that I’ve seen some good numbers I think he’s on the bench we’ll see um but well it’ll be the 28 of Scott Williams going up against the 23 of Drew George and we are off to the races here at men Arena Randolph will be going from left to right on your screen out there in the deep deep Rand off blue jerseys with the white letters and numbers on the front and back morst toown will be out there with the white jerseys and the maroon letters and numbers on the front and back as the Colonials deliver a big hit over on to the 19 of yib Wells Revenge toward as I think some people at Rand off would say is on now a nice little turnaround from George and yeah let’s see if they can if they can even get close to the success they had last year they’re going to be super happy with it and honestly they might even exceed it you know you you think about it every player you probably is going to get a little bit better so we’re should see some gudy numbers at least offensively from this randoff squad listen there’s a reason why they are the preseason number nine in the state of New Jersey there’s a shot from Conover and it floods its way through for goal the first one Conover stopped couldn’t do it on the second time around and blinking you missed it 50 seconds in Rand off up one to nothing made the first great save but just again rebound control Charlie yeah and that’s what top 10 teams will do they get that first shot and then before conver could get that glove down to cover the puck just SL sneaking right in and it’s one nothing looks like it was Shane Melly leading the line 22 so yep so Melly gets the scoring going for Randolph as we have an early icing call out here and two shots on goal Conover sto one but I mean this Randolph team I I guess the one thing that you could say about Conover in this game is well it really only gets easier from here if you start your goldendent career off against the Rams yeah and we didn’t mention in the pregame but another stat from nj.com they had this Ram SE had 369 points last year they returned all but 15 of those points from last season and 13 of them were from ashon fber Char yeah it’s just impeccable and what they’ve been able to do to keep players at Randolph High to keep players playing for them and not transferring to some of the prep schools and some of these other schools got 22184 y so Melly Melly panovich that is Shane from Keegan and Ryan panovich also worth mentioning gentlemen uh a familiar name on on this randoff team coming from moris Catholic uh we have Michael Nar and once he is healthy he’s going to be another lethal piece to this squad quick check on uh Ryan banovich his face picture okay we’re good there we go now ni little pass across to Chris AI Chrisi Waits delivers and gets himself on the board just one so he’s in there on the assist two nothing Randolph early as Morristown inside of the Randol Zone but not for very long now another tap off to the side that came Range Conover with the pick that’s what I’m talking about right there everybody likes ‘s a I feel like he’s a glue guy over there with the Randol r or not with Rand with Morristown and I think that’s the most important thing is like guys are going to want to help him in front of him and I think that was a good selection uh or being able to step up and say hey I can do this let me do this here’s George going up against the number 10 of Conrad Cary henningson that’s the Dee I believe yes yes I believe so he didn’t play a lot last year and he’ll have an increased role this time around this his number if his numbers with the Colonials are any indication and he should be just fine yes pulling aside by Charlie dvorac wow is he that was he always that tall now y Wells we’ve seen a lot of players grow a lot well I mean you expect that a little bit Yeah my goodness now back over in the corner quick little turnaround and again car we hingson a lot of time being spent I mean Charlie doesn’t really have to move his arm too much the pucks just really been on this right side of the ice most of the game another angle through by zenera and the traffic actually redirected the puck away from Conover picked up behind the yet well centering feed trying to find zangara nothing doing picked back up by Drew George George waits as he’s got rayley up top the number eight and Wells digging down to it giving Chase is Luke Williams the 44 and it’s up and out of the zone and a trip but no call maybe just incidental entanglement but I don’t know without that there could have easily been a trip called against the Randolph ran I had to go back and look but it felt like that he kind of maybe it’s because he didn’t fall straight down it looked like he maybe flailed a little bit maybe referee didn’t like that too much tried to sell it a little bit too much perhaps maybe trying to win an award of a different kind perhaps an Emmy not saying that he didn’t get Tri but you know ends up back behind Conover trying to pick it up as Calif fatti and over to Wesley Thomas two nothing Rand off lead things see to have settled down just a little bit as we move inside the 9 Minute Mark now a hand is in the air and a delayed penalty coming up and that’s the last thing mortown needs is to get an early look on this Randol power play for Keegan Melly he’s thrown against the boards nobody’s be be six on four for a moment and rof you know they might hang on to this Puck for a while yeah I’m holding it just don’t throw it back the other way now you have an empty net well what’s interesting here is that they actually haven’t put a six skater out there they’ve just pulled their net minder uh so they just had five they didn’t realize they put didn’t put a six guy out there huh no Lees will now go back in there Lees is small But Mighty out there just 5’ three but we haven’t gotten to see him so far today now it’s going to be a five on three after a cross coming from JT Califa yeah that was interesting it looked like Randolph wanted the five on three they had possession of the puck and then they just kind of dumped it into the zone and said well we want to save some time for that first penalty to still have to be served 30 seconds of five on three hockey this is lifted up and out of the zone so a solid play by the Morris down penalty kill and regathered by George George a give their best to survive these penalty killing opportunities as there’s George as he’s able to drift it back around to Ryan Thomas Thomas he has Chris auli wide open and he takes that chance back to George again with the man winning in front George with the shot and another stop by Conover Conover is 8 for 10 to start the game now zenera delivers and well you know what he can now save say that he saved a j sangar shot and that’s got to feel pretty good for the number one between the pipes not bad Charlie what do you think yeah he looks pretty good in net a little rusty to to start off on those shots but since then he settled into the game and done pretty well to shut down some of these great attackers from Randolph I mean if I didn’t know anything and you told me that he was the F this was his first varsity game as this one finds it through and SC I would still would say even after that goal that you know you would have had me fooled that it was his first time around but here we go with another goal from another Melly that’s Keegan and it’s three to nothing Rand off on the power play now here’s the setup again it’s getting a guy in front a couple guys in front good movement here just out in front I mean that’s tough that’s that’s tough that’s a tough situation even for any goenda puck in that spot I’ll be really interested again to see how Conover plays against a team that’s not the Randolph ramps but Randolph I mean they’re back to their normal selves and it’s so strange because remember the randol’s identity always had been defense defense defense defense and then suddenly last year they’re like oh yeah we’re going to score six goals a game and it looks like they can very well do the same this time around too with that backbone of a rich mclaughin coached up defense man the presential center for a few years now it’s an official sanction sport Randolph has a team I think we have a game for them or something we do we have one coming up and hopefully we get some more we have this men Vision class right now and oh my goodness Jack Murphy please skates his man out of his skates now one over along the boards Murphy trying to keep it in the zone pops up Puck over by the blue line it’s actually back behind him he’s the first to realize it now throws one into the zone and an angles in front and is stopped down by Conover that’s the nine of kakowski that picked it up now for Thomas Morris down just trying to make something happen here there getting out Shot 14 to1 with under 3 minutes left here in the first period against Randolph as they do ice the puck so it did end up over on that left side of your screen but not for long so anyway what I was trying to get to before is that we are in three games today and the next one coming up at 8:15 will be a h shet clash between Mount Lakes botin who got off to an 0 andone start to the season they they played a very good Lake uh Lakeland team Sean I have a question I Rose I I raised my hand oh um and uh so when the when the cup when it comes to cup playoffs is it what are they calling it are they calling it the hos cup I think it’s still the it is still the hos cup yes okay I think it’s still but the division is the hos sh at division but I believe it’ll still be the hos cup that they’re fighting for they’re probably just going to call it the hos next year anyway yeah well anyway back in Action that game will be against moris Catholic St Elizabeth and Newark Academy new Yark Academy now making that a triop and actually helping them out and you know that team’s going to have a lot more depth this year that’s going to be so so important we’ll see how they get going as right out here in the men and division it’s their first battle between two men and teams on the season Randolph off to a great start here we go with the pull away oh just rolled off the end of The Stick of Jack bonor bonor knew he had a chance right there now two minutes left to go Keegan Melly takes the shot blocked Conover and maybe does AR Conover play some baseball too he read that like a center fielder and here’s the Rivalry oh no oh dear oh yeah I’m getting away from from that well these two schools I can tell you do not like each other in any sport no they do not and players being escorted over to the respective penalty boxes and rightfully so that was H quite the bruhaha that we saw between those two two Rams and one Colonial headed in well they might be trying to grab another Colonial I don’t know but right now it’s both mellies and one player from moristown we might be talking about whether players are going to be done for the game because there was quite a lot going on there well if they’re in the box and they’re probably not at the game they would have sent him right to the dressing room well sometimes they put him in the box and then they take him out it’s gainor and Charlie dvorac that are in for moris down joined by the mellies on the other side for Randolph let’s see if anything goes up on the board they’re they they were just showing fives for each side that’s five on five all right so we’ll continue to play five on five and the Rams playing without you know 2/3 of one of their lines they those may be fives each right there I don’t know that’s what I’m thinking it if I’m an official I’m call that those aren’t do you think those are two do you think those are two-minute penalties no no well and also you know you want to make sure because there were there were four oh I misunderstood what you were saying up and being thrown to the ice that was not just a little bit of a scrap that was full on guys yeah there was a lot going on well also if you’re the officials too you want to make sure that that doesn’t happen again in the game so making those five certainly would make a statement early as Conover can’t slow this down Chris and fully in front what a stop by Conover and now taken the other way by Morristown here we go with Williams two- waiting in front Williams takes the shot and it’s blocked Away by Murphy Murphy’s been a two-way star in this contest so far he’s got a goal in this contest and a few block shots as well under 90 seconds left down period number one three to nothing ran off on top out shooting 15 to1 look at Luke Williams go another check another shot and now a second effort oh another one just Sur Zack lves with some good moves here hand in the air we’ve got a penalty though for a rough yeah that looked like Murphy was either a rough or boor but they’re going to give a rough is they’re saying roughing yeah oh yeah that was the
