five teams have submitted their bids for Juan stto it’s finally here John morosi is going to break it down at MLB Network for us and we’re going to react live with [Music] [Applause] him welcome back to mecast friends as always I am Ray and if you like our content like And subscribe but let’s get right into it we’ve been hearing the rumors for how many weeks now from Carlos bager saying that there’s 660 Million Dollar on the table Andy Martino last night saying that there has been no offers this guy over here saying that there are offers we finally got it we got the Tweet five teams have now officially submitted their offers to Juan sto it’s the initial phase hopefully we get it done right away let’s listen in good morning thanks for having me back on the show here now that I’m back in the States yes first credit to Randy Miller of New Jersey Advanced media for reporting that that stto has offers in hand now from five teams and it’s not just the number of teams Robert and Harold that I find interesting it’s the timing of how relatively early we are in the process now we don’t believe these are final offers but it leads to know where the initial IAL Stakes are is helpful we’re still I’m like you guys I can’t wait to see what these initial offers are I bet you some teams are going to low Bowl some teams are going to be crazy out there and I expect it to leak fairly soon because you know Scott Bor is going to try to drive up this initial price and the only way to do it is by sharing it to the media to allow to see where teams are and where teams aren’t about a couple weeks away here from the winter meetings and that gives Juan stto Scott Boris and these teams plenty of time to work through things and potentially sign even before the winter meetings happen I still think there’s a real possibility it occurs in the early days of the meetings but you can see how sequentially this is all lining up because when stto makes his decision there will be a domino effect about other teams that have made these big invest we’ve been talking about that all off season the T Oscar Hernandez types even potentially the Cubs trading Cody Bellinger Bellinger it’s all gonna come after this Juan stto news let’s say for example the Boston Red Sox who I think are probably well after the Mets and Yankees and the hierarchy of teams with a chance to get him if they don’t get SoDo the Red Sox could very easily pivot and sign a Corbin Burns maybe they pursue a Blake Snell who also both happen to be represented I don’t agree with that take I mean you’re saying that if you don’t get Juan soda you’re just going to transfer to pitching and just forget about the Outfield doesn’t make sense to me well let’s keep listening by Scott Forest so the the names of the teams I find interesting the Dodgers I want to make this point on them there’s been all this talk about could they add one more Superstar well effectively Otani is theirs for free in terms of how much money they’re actually paying him given all the deferment so they have the capacity to get so I am of the mind that the team that gets stto will be the most desperate what do you guys think about that the most desperate team’s going to get him are the Mets the most desperate team in my eyes they are especially if they’re losing out on Carlos kareah a couple years ago that hold debacle The sherz are the debacle The Verlander the Verlander debacle I think Steve Cohen wants to finally land his superstar in New York City to get Soto the Dodgers are not a desperate team no that’s a very good point my my question JP off of this is okay the offers are in how do if JP Harold and and roof flow have offers in how do we know what the other offer is and I say I’m out okay H when’s that process gonna happen because at some point you got to be able to say I’m sorry but Robert came in five years and offered him 500 million yeah and I go well that’s never mind I’m out right well the irony here and and this is my prediction on the 26th of November that the teams that are also on there in the market for Anthony santand or teoscar Hernandez they’re probably willing to wait a little bit longer on the sto situation to let it play out of course because Solo’s new contract is going to create a whole different Market it’s going to raise aav for all higher end outfielders of course they’re going to wait that’d be dumb not to I do think a team like the Blue Jays if they get the sense that he is going to go to one of the New York teams no I I get all that but I’m wondering how do you find out I mean does does Boris say hey here’s what’s on the table or does he just does he sit there negoti right no and and I think in a lot of ways Harold I would be surprised and obviously there are the ethics and relationships that Prevail in a negotiation such as this a high stakes negotiation by the way where the full industry expectation is that number is going to be over half a billion dollars uh what’s half a billion among friends to where there’s there’s going to be at least some conversation where and you have to as a GM sense how real your chance is and again the reason why I mention the Blue Jays is this if they get if they get the sense that they are not even the favorite or the second favorite it would behoove the Jays to almost pull out and then strike the deal with santand before the other Runners up do the same thing and to then but that’s also insinuating santand there and those guys are dumb he’s not dumb he knows that he’s the top fullback option and teams are going to be all over him so he’s just going to sit and wait and be patient in my I think that honestly the the better poker game is between these teams we’re talking about and the agent for santand and the agent for teoscar because those players are not represented by Boris that’s where it gets interesting with respect to Boris the what makes such a unique off season is that in terms of the other big dollar guys I mentioned Burns I I mentioned Snell they’re also represented by Boris and so he has he has more information Scott Morris right now on the 26th of November has more information than probably anybody else in the entire industry about the willingness to spend not just for sto but for high-end pitching as well so information I want to go off script for one second again we talked about this a lot yesterday Robert not how are we getting to 500 because I want to know how we got here because if Bryce Harper’s 360 350 whatever Manny Machado was 350 360 and there’s 26 years old sh Otani got to 700 because he’s a side young pitcher and a hall and MVP hitter and he’s seven Soto doesn’t pitch and I know he’s the same age but he’s doubling Harper and Machado how do we get here well Harold it’s a great question and the answer I’ll give you is is this if you consider year-over-year in the increase of what you’re paying for Superstar players and you’re right show even though it’s deferred money stretched at least the nominal number for what a Pere basis could possibly be in the history of the game if you look at what Aaron judge got and then you potentially move up the aav from judge’s contract and maybe take it a little bit higher for stto not because I’m not saying one’s a better player than the other but we’re now a few years on in terms of inflation growth in the industry Etc sto is a substantially younger player than Aaron judge and so even if you look even if you took judge’s contract and then plotted it out over four or five more years because Soto is that much younger than than Aaron was when he hadit free agency that’s how you get above $500 million because that’s all right my fans you get the gist here let me know what you think down in the comments I think that we have the richest owner in sports they need to get it done this is a statement free agent out here all I keep hearing and I know I saw Nick fans kind of saying the same thing this is almost like when they said they were getting Katie and Kyrie to the Knicks yada yada but at the end of the day there’s no salary cap in baseball money talks and if we’re going to keep flaunting that we have the richest owner in baseball we need to spend like it and it’s not like we have some absurd payroll right now plus million dollar coming off the bucks if stto fits in around $45 million right there there still plenty of money to make this roster round get pet Alonzo back in sha Manaya back in and potentially add one or two highend starters and still be at around that number this is an all in tyght move this is a franchise changing move this is there’s a new sheriff in town this is we are going to have a top five lineup and with the top five in baseball when you’re talking with the lights of Lindor Brandon nemmo Mark V Juan sto Pete Alonzo so on and so forth that’s what we’re talking about here we need to get it done it needs to happen it needs to happen fairly quickly because I think these negotiations are going to move rapidly I mean you heard him say it it could happen before the winter meetings I believe John Haymon said it last week as well he could see this deal getting done before the winter meetings because Scott borce at the end of the day has Pete Alonzo Blake snow all these other clients that he has to deal with and he doesn’t want Wan sto to want to be the one to
