questionable value when it comes to protecting the team’s star players at Best they provide minimal protection at worst they force the team to ice a short-handed lineup that all but guarantees lost minutes and quite often an overall disadvantage it’s no secret that most NHL players decline significantly by the age of 37 and Ryan Reeves is no exception to this rule in fact the Leafs made a questionable decision in signing him and it’s baffling that he continues to get playing time the question arises does the coaching staff including barui truly understand that Reeves is not the asset they might hope for last spring during the playoffs the Leafs inexplicably dressed Reeves and it cost them dearly in games that were ultimately decided by a single goal Reeves was directly responsible for giving up two goals both early on in the games this costly performance highlights just how much he detracts from the team teams chances and crucial moments meanwhile new faces like stev’s have proven to be far more effective despite having played only a handful of games Steves already looks miles ahead of Reeves on the fourth line the line featuring Steves derer and Lawrence has been by far the Leaf’s most effective fourth line this season the team’s success in this area is a stark contrast to The Limited impact of players like Reeves and David Camp who don’t seem to be missed at all to
