breaking news it is let’s bring in Jonathan Jones now JJ how did we get here it’s it’s still hard to believe Chris let’s just be honest about it right because ever since Bill bich did not get a head coaching job uh this past off season the belief around the league around the entire football world was he wanted to get back into the NFL in this upcoming coaching cycle so that he could ultimately in two or three seasons time break Don Chula’s alltime wins record one of the great football historians that bill bich is hoping to really truly leave a lasting imprint even more so than the six Super Bowls as a head coach and two as an assistant coach but let’s go back viewed as a desirable location so yes of course Bill bich wants to talk to us and we want the world to know about it but then later in the week they had another meeting on Thursday in Manhattan between Bill bich the chancellor of UNCC and the athletic director and that’s when talks really progressed and picked up they continued into Sunday in Massachusetts where they met for about five hours and they discussed the organizational flowcharts if you will but all along there were a few sort of guarantees that bill bich needed and we are still going to await the details exactly of the millions of dollars that UNCC is ultimately going to commit to nil and we’re still going to wait on the details of Bill bellich contract and how much money Carolina was willing to offer bill bich in this deal so those terms have not yet come out but it was always centered around money around a commitment to Excellence for a football program that has been in search of being Elite for many many years and that has eluded them for some time and so now UNC lands the biggest fish they possibly could getting bill bich yeah I feel like you’re uh uniquely qualified to kind of talk on what North Carolina has seen itself as and has been wanting for a long time as a UNC grad what does this mean to that University and that athletic department it’s huge right I mean I don’t there’s no bigger coup right than getting arguably the greatest football coach of all time uh to lead your football program there are plenty of potential cons to this and I think that we can all sort of explore those and a lot of people can can guess at those and we’ll talk about that probably in a little bit but this is a a huge huge get for Carolina whether it works out or not right it’s a huge get for UNCC there are a couple of unique I don’t want to call them challenges necessarily but uh there are issues when it comes to North Carolina football look this is still a basketball school so this nil money you’re not going to take away from basketball from the program that wants to w a sth NCAA National Championship there’s also a very robust Olympic sports program at Carolina so you don’t want to take away from uh from sports that are actually winning uh national championships right you have uh you have things like women’s soccer for example like they just won a national championship you are going to want uh to be able to continue to house those programs and not take from them so uh those are just a couple uh of issues and instances that I would point to here uh where North Carolina is going to have to figure out where this money is coming from where these resources are going to be pulled from in order to fund what bill bellich ultimately wants usually it’s the college head coach that wins and tries his hand at the NFL the the Nick Sabin the urban Myers of the world this is the opposite we don’t see this as much I mean Bill Walsh 30 plus years ago wins multiple titles with the Niners then goes to college H how unprecedented is this in this day and age I mean it is remarkably impressed let’s also consider this Chris they could always have there’s going to be five six seven n head coach job openings now we know that bill bich is not going to take and would not have taken the New York Jets job for example but a lot of folks around the league thought that uh it set up quite nicely for him to potentially take the Jacksonville Jaguars job if and when it opens and people assume that it will open at the end of the year uh for Carolina to get this and look it’s a changing landscape right when Bill Walsh did his thing when uh Nick Sabin you know went to Miami and then went to Alabama all of those things that’s a different college football landscape we heard from Bill bich on Monday on the Pat McAfee show where he talked about uh that he’s going to basically create an NFL program at the college level and so what you need to do that and I think he wants to do a sort of draft and develop pipeline I don’t know that that’s going to exist in college where this is really more of a free agency like model that is why nil that is why Revenue share is so crucial and important for the UNCC football program to thrive this is a group uh you know a school that they hired Butch Davis what 15 or so years ago hoping to uh be a big-time player in national football and in that conversation it didn’t work out it led to an NCAA Scandal it set the program back many years uh but they do believe that bill bich obviously is going to be able to deliver to them some college football playoff appearances Jonathan Jones with us here on this breaking news it doesn’t get much bigger than this in college football and the NFL combined Bill bellich agreeing to become the next head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels he would immediately become the oldest active FBS coach he’ll turn 33 in the spring up next we’ll talk with one of his former Star best but one of their best players and actually the best available player in the 247 transfer portal ranking system Eric Singleton their star wide receiver in the portal so even without him I still like Haynes King and Georgia Tech to get it done I hate to do it I hate to go against our guy Bon they’ve had such a good season but I do think he getting ENT execution in misdirection offenses well this has got everything for you and while I agree with you the time off could be good for Haynes King it could also be good for Diego Pavia and it could be good for this Vanderbilt team as a whole that got a little bit banged up as it was reaching the end of the season after the seasons they’ve had could really cap it with a nice Victory there let’s go to the Liberty Bowl in Memphis and Chip this is an old Southwestern conference rivalry between Texas Tech and Arkansas these two teams played every year from like the mid-50s into the 90s just their third meeting since then yeah I think this one’s going to be played a little bit more wide open maybe a little bit loose and that is certainly what we’ve seen from the Liberty Bowl in the past you know we’ve gotten these kinds of games where even Arkansas has been involved in them where they just touchdown after touchdown after touchdown Texas Tech generally does lend itself to those kinds of ball games and Arkansas as well has been known to give up a bunch of points in addition to scoring behind Bobby patrino so trying to choose a side with tou such a tight spread when I do expect the game is going to be higher scoring and a little bit sloppy that’s difficult so when we’ve got sloppy and higher scoring my Best Bets the over oh but we lost an offensive coordinator for Texas Tech so I think that actually benefits Arkansas we thought there might be a coaching change there with Sam Pitman instead they recommit to him I think his players love him I think that’s the difference I like ton green like Bob trino develop of them I think Arkansas comes out on top so I’ll lay him with the Razer backs all right let’s head out to the Holiday Bowl which is in San Diego it’s Syracuse and Washington state that snap dragon Stadium out there um Syracuse going for a 10th win Danny that would be just their second 10- win season in the last couple of decades I saw a press conference with Fran Brown and he was asked is Kyle m g is Kyle McCord going to play in the bowl game because there’s the expectation maybe he Ops out gets ready for the draft and Fran Brown came back with an answer he said do you love football like he was asking the report of do you love football cuz these guys love football my players love to play football so I think you’re going to get a Syracuse team which has had a phenomenal season quietly under the radar nine and3 in Fran Brown’s first year Kyle McCord one of the best quarterbacks in the country I think they light it up I think they light up the scoreboard I will lay the six and a half I think Washington State clearly they’ve got an offense that puts up some points even though there could be some changes on their offensive side of the ball but I I think this is a higher scoring Affair and I think Syracuse is the last one standing so I’ll lay them yeah this could be a great quarterback matchup chip if John mattier plays for Washington State but they they lost their offensive coordinator to Oklahoma many thinking that Mater is going to follow it’s December 11th what’s Your Gut say oh I I think that this is going to be a higher score in game do I think John mattier plays maybe but you know what I think doesn’t change is the mentality of this Washington State offense because it really hasn’t mattered under Jake Dicker whether it is Cam board or whether it is John matier this is still a cougar’s offense that goes out there looking to score points looking to create explosive plays whether it’s with the pass game or with the Run game all based out of the quarterback position and Syracuse’s defense while it has a lot of individual Playmakers I mean you think back to just the Miami game their last regular season performance you know they did give up those three early touchdowns that allowed Miami to build that 21 nothing lead I could see something similar where the scoring goes d and then you get a flood of points and
