we have breaking news from the NHL we have a trade between the blues and the Ducks involving Cam Fowler we’ll discuss the deal coming up next welcome back to another video here at Top Shelf hockey as I mentioned we have ourselves an NHL trade on this Saturday morning between Anaheim Ducks and the St Louis Blues now of course uh the ducks have been rumored to be moving Cam Fowler for some time or at least interested in doing so uh he obviously had some trade protection within his contract and uh reports had indicated that he had agreed it was time to move on and get a fresh start and to you know obviously for him to have a chance to contend uh and maybe get into a playoff pitcher and for the Ducks be a to get some Assets in return so there was Mutual uh you know work done together to kind of expand where he was willing to go to uh this has been rumored since the early part of the preseason really uh but Cam Fowler is now on his way to become a member of the St Louis Blues the Ducks trade Fowler along with a fourth round pick uh in 2027 uh the Ducks are also retaining $2.5 million of fowers remaining salary as well so obviously that makes things a little bit easier from a cap perspective on the St Louis blue side of things uh and in return the St Louis blue send a 2027 second round pick uh and Prospect defenseman Jeremy byak batuka uh now he is a 22-year-old Old third-year Pro good size 6’4 200 lb but a relatively unknown Prospect uh mostly have played uh in the east coast League a little bit of AHL time in the past three seasons after being completed uh in junior I believe he played in the qmjhl so at the end of the day it’s hard to project him as being a you know a pro but you know in a system like Anaheim maybe he’ll get more opportunity but at the same time they do have a lot of um you know good Young D that are either with the roster or up and coming so it’s kind of tough to see I mean at the same time they give up a fourth rounder to get a second I don’t know it it’s kind of an underwhelming return I know Cam Fowler wasn’t exactly you know um it’s not like he’s the most amazing defenseman ever or anything like that but it just it seems like a little bit of a weak return uh I thought they could have done a little bit better I mean he’s got lots of experience uh great skater you know smart defenseman like not going to wow you with his offensive numbers and all that but um but yeah we know the Ducks are obviously not trending in the direction they want some of their veterans like him and goal Le John Gibson rumored to be moved forever Gibson’s been in a rumor mill for a lot longer than Fowler um you know and after some of their especially they had a recent road trip across Eastern Canada where they got uh slaughtered really um you know they did have a couple games that were a little bit better but you know losing against Montreal Ottawa Toronto and like you know it’s pretty clear that they’re not ready to take that next step even some of their younger players zis continuously gets hurt McTavish who a player I really like um has you know you look at his numbers and you watch everything and you like why is that he had so much you know potential as a third overall pick a few years ago and it just kind of seems to have leveled off cutter go hasn’t quite taken off the way we wanted to see or expect it to see Leo Carlson phenomenal talent but you know a player that’s been in out of the lineup a lot dealt with some injuries so you know you kind of feel for Anaheim if you look at how many picks they’ve had in the top 10 in the last five six years you would expect things to be further along that’s my take on and there’s also reports that you know the team’s not thrilled with their coach and how he goes about things and everything I’m not sure there’s a great fit there I I wonder honestly what more we might see out of Anaheim um so be curious to see but for now Fowler goes to the St Louis Blues they’ve they’ve acquired a lot of D over the years um you know they certainly have a lot of defenseman there that are very capable so be curious to see how he fits there and what other subsequent moves might come from this so let me know your thoughts on Anaheim traing Fowler to the St Louis Blues and the return they got um to me it’s a little underwhelming but let me know what you think in the comments below thanks for watching and I’ll catch you next time [Music]
