[Music] hello everybody and good evening and welcome to this uh breaking news edition of foul territory I’m Alana Rizzo along with Todd Frasier Eric Katz I tell you what we were waiting for it I think the baseball world was waiting for the announcement guys of where would Juan end up Juan stto of course and it looks like he’s going to stay in New York but go to the other side because John Heyman reporting that Juan stto has allegedly reportedly signed a very large Deal $765 million over the course of 15 Seasons you guys to be a New York Met Todd let’s start with you you were a met you were a Yankee uh Juan stto is now uh apparently headed to Queens on the largest contract in professional sports history what is your take well we first talked about this earlier so Cohen said nobody is out bidding me and guess what nobody is outbidding Steve Cohen this is absolutely phenomenal uh I went upstairs I woke up my son who’s a Mets fan he’s jumping up for joy and then I told my other son and he’s crying so I got two kids right now both the exact opposites we’re having a fun time here at the Frasier household but yes it is um it’s spectacular this is just absolute Insanity only thing I wish he kind of did it like a LeBron James thing I thought that would have been pretty cool for baseball but congratulations to him congrats to the Mets uh this is just astronomical and um the Mets have the one of the top baseball players in MLB right now and this guy is absolutely clutch and queens I I mean all these Mets fans I’ve been getting a lot of text messages already it’s just absolute Insanity yeah it is insane and you think about of course uh the fans in the Bronx probably like man what did we have to offer and I know the Yankees were up there too Katz in terms of the deal but it looks like you know what 760 wasn’t enough they said no no no we’re going to go 765 I think Steve Cohen would have given him a dollar more than whatever anybody else was going to offer in what Universe though Eric is Juan stto worth more than shoh Otani in terms of a contract I mean we’re here we’re here in the metaverse I mean I think it’s a man what Universe the universe that I don’t think Juan stto gets this if it happened last year and then Shi comes out I think there was losers remorse or you know a little bit of jealousy based on what the Dodgers one one what the Dodgers were making from Shi just on a dollar for dooll basis and two what a generational player can do look at what it did not even winning the World Series for the Dodgers like how now like La is a destination this is what Steve Cohen has wanted his entire you know ever since he said he was going to buy the Mets he has wanted the New York Mets to be the destination where people want to play he went out and got the GM he wanted in David Sterns now he goes out and gets the generational player and really what the Mets did and I know this is not college football the Mets took their flag and they stuffed it in the Yankees Midfield like that is is college football they went to midfield for the WAN stto signing and they stuffed the New York Mets and they planted their flag really in Yankee territory now it’s time for the Yankees to answer back yeah this is a kind of the equivalent of dancing on the Dallas Cowboys star at Midfield there uh at AT&T Stadium so Todd let me ask you this though is this good for baseball some would say absolutely yes it’s good for the player which it certainly is I will never fault a guy for going into free agency and getting absolutely as much as he can for as long as he can some say this is good for competition but let’s be honest there’s only about five or six teams that can every every owner can spend whether you choose to do so is another story but is this good for baseball I think before I answer I think you said it best any owner can do this they have a lot of money they can spend if they want to everybody talks about small markets uh we have a small Market we’re not going to spend like listen when Shi had his time there was a lot of smaller Market teams that were trying to get him too as well any team can do this is it good for baseball I’m not sure you I I I’m in between this right now I I think it’s good and understandably for the players understand listen this is the best thing in the world this guy just signed the biggest deal ever at 765 uh it’s good for the kids coming up I mean not necessarily I don’t think I don’t know if this will ever be met again but as this is going forward I I I think it is I think I think it is good for baseball excuse me I’m coming back I think it is honestly these guys need to make as much well they don’t need to they need to get as much as they can and guess what if somebody’s willing to pay it so be it and this guy he’s gotten 15 years he got the years he wanted he’s excelling at his sport you don’t see any other sport doing something like this and that’s probably why I’m saying it’s good for baseball they put them back on the top of understanding what it’s best for the player you know and good for him I certainly don’t uh fault wotto as I me mentioned and good for Scott Boris I’ve been wanting Scott Boris to represent me for the last 20 years uh let me ask you this though now that Wan sto has allegedly made the decision thank goodness I think what is good for baseball katsy is that now the other dominoes the other pieces can fall and teams can really start to put their rosters and their lineups together because obviously he was the biggest you know Domino toall so now you can move forward and say okay we didn’t get wodo we lost out on the wano sweep staks but now we can start really honing in on the guys that we want is that fair that’s fair to say I think those conversations have kind of happened with offers I don’t know but we can’t discount the Mets either they still need some pitching they can’t they can’t go out there and have Reclamation projects not saying that those guys aren’t going to do good and not saying that they absolutely knocked it out of the park with the srino signing last year with the Shawn Manas signing last year so they’re going to be good at that but they still need to go out and get somebody oh and don’t forget there their their homegrown boy Pete Alonzo is still out there don’t don’t go and get one and lose Pete don’t go and get you know the generational guy and be like ah you know we just we’re just going to go Vientos and a platoon at third base no I think the Mets are still in all of this this is not to me whoever signs stto was going to be like that’s like a separate War chest now they’re going to dip into the regular money this was just like the this was the spending money now they’re dipping into what is actually you know GNA build the rest of their team yeah it’s insane uh to think that they’re still going to be spending money and hopefully they do bring the polar bear back I think fans would love that I think Pete Alonzo would like to you know end his career as a met um so Todd Blake Snell first pitcher to go free agent pitcher to go obviously Juan stto bigger the bigger story everybody has their eyes on him to Eric’s point it’s not as if Juan stto guarantees you a championship there’s still other things that the Mets need to do in addition to bringing back let’s say Pete Alonzo as their first baseman what else I think they’re guaranteed to be in the postseason now but it doesn’t guaranteed them a championship what else do they need to do to surround Juan stto with the winning pieces well they they need some relief pitching that’s one and I know it start it starts with the starters but their relief was was tough it I mean and not in a good way I think they need some relievers and they’re going to need two or three starters they there’s some guys out there that are definitely needed uh Steve Cohen I think he’s gonna keep putting the pedal to the metal and keep getting it getting after it um it’s just one of those things where is this one piece going to catapult them to get to the World Series I don’t think so yet if you don’t have the pitching we always talk about this Eric knows good pitching always beats good hitting not one guy’s not going to step up and do it for you you’re going to need a whole pleth of people and if you don’t have that staff you’re definitely going to be in trouble but now I want to go back to the Yankees here a little bit the ball’s in your court now so it it’s time you didn’t get the guy that you wanted it’s time to start making some moves you got the money you showed that you were willing to spend it now go out there and spend it on about three or four guys that I know are going to come together three or four really good guys that they could spend it on and get after it as a Yankee fan I would be I would be somewhat sad but the same time I’d be a little little happy knowing that you know hopefully you know CA Cashman and the guys can uh figure out and get a bunch of guys here going for them isn’t that the point though Katz it’s like you think about the fact and I think Todd makes a really good point this is the thing the thing I’ve been saying all along that as a Dodger fan we all know that I’m a Dodger homework Eric tells me every single day you can go now and get three or four really good pieces you can bring back teoscar Hernandez you can bring you know a guy that’s a back end of the bullpen piece you can get another Frontline starter uh you know in to compliment Blake Snell and the rest of the starting rotation the Yankees have the opportunity now to up the ante on teoscar Hernandez if they want to go after him in addition to getting some other pieces and listen it’s not like the Yankees offered Juan stto 300 million Scott Braun in the chat here also opting out after season five $75 million signing bonus largest contract in Pro Sports history the Yankees final offer was 16 years so an additional year 760 million so 5 million lesss but one year more so a$ 47.5 million aav annual average value versus the 51 million that he got I mean it’s not like the Yankees gave him a bad deal so now they can say listen we tried we tried we did our best you know Steve Cohen was not going to be out bid but now the Yankees legitimately can spend 500 million and get three or four other really good players I mean there’s some value in that 500 million I mean you get a Burns you get a freed you get a you bring in you bring in bellers I mean I think the Yankees need to understand and as any team needs to understand and I think the Dodgers do it to a they need to form the best environment they need to form the best lineup the deepest lineup the deepest rotation that’s wins throughout the season and then also have everybody hitting on all cylinders going into the postseason so is the answer in signing Burns freed and Alonzo I don’t think so the answer somewhere in the middle of athleticism you know reinvigorate that that rotation with another piece that’s going to take over that’s going to that’s going to push you know some of those other guys to continue to be the level that they are listen like if you’re a Yankees fan because I’m always talking about the Yankees right now there has been very few off Seasons now there’s been a lot of trade deadlines but very few off Seasons that Cashman has underd delivered that Hal Stein Brenner has underd delivered and I don’t think not signing Juan stto is underd delivering I think they gave it clearly if if those numbers are correct and I’m assuming based on what I was hearing all day today and last night that those numbers were going like can I get a 705 710 715 720 kind of moved up and up like that so for the Yankees to get that close it’s great to go out and say we’re GNA give out $500 million this off season don’t think they’re going to get quite to that number but that would be you’d be adding some serious Thum and Firepower lineup and rotation without a doubt and I I just want to make a point AC it’s so funny like now that somebody does something it always jumps back to oh well why Yankees turn you know what I mean and now especially since it is the Mets and in New York hey little brother just made a monster move here Yankees what are you gonna do and now if I’m an agent guess what every team that gives me a deal hey before before we go with this team let’s hit up the Yankees over there and just make sure they don’t want you and want to up up the price because they are going to have to make a move here Yankee L is not going to be happy I mean this is about 300 million more present day value than any other major league baseball deal this is more than Aaron judge got you guys a lot more than Aaron judge got do you think that Juan stto didn’t want to play with judge didn’t want to have to share the spotlight I mean I listen if someone’s gonna give me 765 million I’m going to take it I I’ll go play on the moon I don’t care but I mean do you think it was all about the money because if you’re you’re looking at who’s the closest in terms of winning and getting to the postseason is it the Yankees is it the Mets Eric what say you I mean you’re talking 15 years think think about in 15 years Alana in 15 years Juan stto is going to be playing with a completely different group of players for the team that he’s playing on so you you say who’s the closest I don’t know maybe you say who is the who is the strongest set up to have a plan for the next 15 years is is if I’m Juan stto because you talk about a seven-year contract for a big league baseball player that is a long time ju’s overd doubling that you’re talking about dudes that are getting seven-year contracts he’s gonna play with he’s gonna play with guys Sons when they come into New York when they come into with for the Mets like you sit there and you go it’s just it’s tough to say the Mets are in a better spot today but over that 15 years to me he was just looking for that cash Todd is one championship in the tenure of this 15-year deal one championship for the Mets is this 15-year 765 million deal worth it one that’s I think I would give my left leg for a World Series Championship from playing I never got the chance to get to the World Series um I would say it is is just because the lone fact of getting to the World Series is so hard um yeah I would I would and then a lot of people be like yeah you’re crazy he’s making all this money but he is just one guy at the end of the day it takes a whole team to do it and I just want to go back to one thing I you think about soda he bet on himself a little bit remember with Washington the deal that he had there on the table he said hey man I’m I’m good I’m good poppy I’m gonna go play somewhere else I’m gonna go to San Diego then I’m gonna go to the Yankees and next thing you know man this guy man alive I mean I just wonder what he’s doing tonight at the end of like what is he possibly doing after he signs this um just absolutely incredible but yeah I think a World Series would justify it for sure just one Eric do you do you say uh you say the same man I want to say just one is enough like I want to say that but I feel like this is so much that I’m going to go back on my own words and say he needs two he needs two but but but honestly this is not it’s not even in the same Stratosphere but Juan stto to the Mets changes the culture like I think a Jason Worth to Jason Worth to the Nationals a Max Scherzer to the Nationals like it built them up for that the Mets haven’t had a World Series since a World Series Championship 1986 they lost in 15 like you sit there and you go if the Mets are contending every year of his 15 years and then he goes into Hall of Fame as a met no I’m gonna say one one is worth it one is worth the 765 [Laughter] mil what is worth the seven the 765 is the better play though let’s say you’re not let’s say you’re not a Met fan okay is the better play just from a business standpoint to spread the money around to different players I mean you could you could say that now it’s funny you read the comments and you hear people oh yeah whoa I’m glad we’re not not spending our we’re saving our money somebody else listen any team would have taken Juan sto if they had the chance everybody could say what they want I I we talked about this all time it was Juan sto and then the free agency really started I know some guys already got picked up but now the domino effect should happen I mean will it I I I assume it will it should happen a little faster now because guys are like you know what he signed his deal all of a sudden a month goes by we’re into February or month and a half we’re into February and all of a sudden there’s a bunch of guys not signed people are going to sign now left and right and it’s on to the Yankees to figure out the ball is in their Court everybody knows they have the money now they are the ones that are going to always get asked the questions hey do you still want want them this got this deal you want to go higher you want to go more years they’re always going to go back to them now it’s just silly money that we’re talking about do you think that or what does this do Eric for the you know the water mark the high water mark for the sport you got to love owners putting money into teams and we’ve said this before a thousand times I’ll say it again every single owner of the 30 teams can spend whether they choose to do so is an entirely different story what does this do for the sport and I tell you what if I had a kid I’m I’m tying their hands behind their back I’m having them throw left-handed I’m doing whatever you can to be in baseball let’s go 765 million let’s figure this out Alana Rizzo Alana Rizzo’s out there tying kids hands behind their back and kids are just getting hit by hit baseballs come on Alana untie my hands not both of them at the same time oh not both of them okay just one of them uh what does it do for the sport it is it it it changes the game in the sense that the rich teams have the money to spend for the best players and it’s going to continue to escalate or Elevate everybody’s everybody’s salary because now the Mark is $51 million per year before the Mark was sh’s 70 technically it was 46 $5 million per year $51 million per year is now the mark and you know a rising tide raises All Ships yeah it it’s insane money but again I’m I’m glad for wano good for him before we uh wrap this up and let you guys go Todd Frasier you just signed a 15-year $765 million deal what are you spending your money on what’s the first thing you’re GNA buy besides a small country I mean this is I I don’t I don’t even know I can anything you really wanted to get I I would probably I would be the Family Guy and and pay off all my family members mortgage and then I would use it on myself I would be that guy first and I would take a trip all my family members we would go to anywhere they wanted to and just have a blast on me for two weeks that would probably be the first thing I did very nice ketz what are you doing I mean let’s not let’s keep it real Juan made $30 million last year it’s not like he was making he wasn’t making the league minimum and all of a sudden he’s like who what do I do he’s been living he’s been living in red bottoms for a minute okay he’s got he’s got bloody shoes I understand just you know that’s if you’re already in that I mean you got to be thinking when you go to 750 million 765 million you’re talking about you’re you’re getting a yach you’re getting some kind of boat you’re not going super yacht but you’re going some kind of boat you’re rolling it up right next to Chapman’s a rala Chapman’s yacht and you’re just like that was good I think you’re getting a super yacht I’m with Todd though I’m paying off everybody’s mortgage and then I’m gonna give each person like here’s here’s the money that and don’t ever ask me for anything for the rest of your life this is what you’re getting that is it you’re done you are done after this uh by the way we’re getting reports that uh Blake Tran’s going back to the on a two-year $22 million deal that makes me so happy they they could have wo at 765 I don’t care hold on why listen two years 22 why wouldn’t other teams be on that if they knew the price was only 22 million in my opinion why wouldn’t the let’s talk about why would the Yankees be on that you know like this guy is a freaking Beast good for the Dodgers the Yanke the Yankees are in Shock right now they don’t know what the hell hit them they well St to and hit him all right we’re going to have so much more on all of this of course uh we’re going to wrap this up right now but we certainly have you covered Mets up has you covered from the happy standpoint of course if you’re into tears Derek at pinstripe territory has the other side of the city sorry as far as that’s concerned
