James is about to turn 40 years old at the end of the month he’s in his 22nd season if he plays another season which I do think there’s an expectation of that would be a league record 23rd season and he’s coming off an Olympic run that’s a lot for a player of this age yeah that is very sobering for all of us who consider him the king but still you know age sometimes catches up to you in some ways perk how much can the Lakers continue to rely on LeBron and as you heard his 22nd year you can’t rely on Bru it’s unfair to rely on Bru look make no mistake about it LeBron James owes us nothing right the game of basketball nothing he has given us everything and more he don’t owe the Lakers a damn thing matter of fact they owe him something when it comes down to surrounding him and ad with the necessary pieces they need another point guard they need another Floy General a guy that could take the pressure off of BR when it matters the most maybe a Dennis shudder they also need a center right like it’s unfair this guy is about to be 40 in what a week a week and a half or so and at the end of the day you can’t rely on him especially when you’re trying to go win a championship I don’t believe that LeBron James should be relied on heavy like this is part of the reason that he need these days off so that he could reset his mentality get some days off to himself because he actually earned it 26th in the NBA and defense last year they were 17th certainly keep an eye on them getting closer to the trade deadline they’ve got those two first round picks the question is will they move them if it can just move the needle a little bit not a lot CH I just find it crazy that people are like why is LeBron James at this age like how’s he missing one game I got two I got two I got two texts from from two different teams last night they like what’s going on with LeBron I said well can can he just rest that’s what I’m saying he’s a superhero y’all I feel like the level he’s playing at I think he probably deserves a couple days a couple games NBA gam so let’s catch you up and go Coast to Coast all right Stars Ed welcome back Lakers fans today we have an interesting topic to dive into as we discuss the Los Angeles Lakers potential move to sign a former number one first overall pick Marquel Foltz now we all know that the Lakers have been a bit of a roller coaster ride so far in the 2024 to2 NBA season we started strong with a promising 10 to4 record but unfortunately things have taken a downturn the team is now sitting at 1311 and has gone through a rough stretch with a 37 record this has left many of us asking what’s next for this Lakers team as we’ve seen time and time again when the Lakers face struggles like this the front office doesn’t hesitate to explore all options the goal is always the same improve the roster and get back into Championship contention it seems like the front office is considering a few possibilities from acquiring a solid Center like Jonas Valance unas to adding another scoring star like Zack Levine but what if the Lakers don’t go the route of making a big flashy trade what if they choose to go a different way to boost the team well according to recent reports from clutch points Anthony Irwin one option the Lakers have been discussing is signing Marquel folz the former number one pick first overall pick from the 2017 NBA draft foltz’s Journey has been a bit of a mixed bag after being selected by the Philadelphia 76ers he struggled to meet expectations facing injuries and various setbacks however since joining the Orlando Magic he has had a more stable and solid career in his Five Seasons with the magic folz has averaged 11.6 points 3.4 rebounds 4.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game in just 26 minutes per night his numbers may not scream Allstar but they’re certainly respectable for a rotation player especially when we consider the needs of this Lakers team so why folz and why now first let’s talk about what the Lakers need most right now depth and defense in the back court we’ve all seen how inconsistent the Lakers backourt has been this season while D’Angelo Russell has shown flashes of Brilliance he’s also been prone to inconsistency Austin Reeves has had his moments but there have been times when he hasn’t been able to carry the load this is where folz could step in and provide a solid defense defensive presence for a Lakers team that has struggled on that end of the floor folz could be a real asset he has the tools to be a Lockdown Defender and with the Lakers defense being one of their weaker areas so far this season adding foltz’s defensive chops could be a GameChanger but let’s not get too ahead of ourselves while adding fols could provide a nice boost let’s be clear he’s not the type of player who would immediately turn the Lakers into title contenders he’s not going to be the missing piece that makes the Lakers the clear favorites in the Western Conference but if we look at the big picture this could be a smart lowrisk addition that helps the Lakers get back on track folz is still young and at 26 years old he still has plenty of room to develop he’s had his fair share of struggles but he’s also shown growth and potential with the magic coming to A Team like the Lakers where he wouldn’t necessarily expected to carry the scoring load could allow him to thrive in a supporting role his ability to contribute in multiple areas defense playmaking and even scoring when needed could be exactly what the Lakers need to balance out their roster it’s also worth noting that the Lakers front office is very familiar with making moves that may seem subtle at first but ultimately pay off whether it’s a trade free agent signing or a change team philosophy the Lakers have often made Savvy decisions that push them in the right direction and as we’ve seen in the past sometimes a smaller move can set off a chain reaction that leads to bigger success while Marquel folz may not be the headline grabbing move that many fans want he could be the type of addition that helps the Lakers in ways we don’t always immediately see now let’s talk about where the Lakers are right now now the team has experienced a rough patch as we mentioned earlier a 3 to7 stretch is not the type of record a team with championship aspirations wants to have in December but this isn’t the end of the road for La they have LeBron James who continues to defy age and they have Anthony Davis who has been playing at an MVP level despite some recent struggles the Lakers still have a lot of talent and they’re far from being out of the race but they do need to make some adjustments adding fols could help them in the short term as his defensive abilities would complement Davis and LeBron on the floor looking at the bigger picture the Lakers are still very much in the mix in the Western Conference while the road ahead may be tough it’s not impossible to turn things around they have the pieces to be successful but it’s all about execution whether that means adding a player like folz making a big trade for aent Center or adjusting their Team Dynamics the Lakers front office will need to be strategic with folz they might not have a superstar on their hands but they’d get a solid versatile player who could help the team in multiple ways as Lakers fans we have to stay patient and Trust in the process the team has gone through ups and downs but they’ve always found a way to come back stronger this season is no different there’s still time for the Lakers to make a push in the standings and get back to Championship form whether it’s through signing fols or making a different move we know that the front office is always looking for ways to improve the roster in conclusion while marel Foltz may not be the game-changing superstar that many fans dream of he could be a smart addition to the Lakers rotation he brings defense versatility and a well-rounded skill set that could help stabilize the Lakers in areas where they’ve struggled if the front office pulls the trigger on this move it may not immediately put the Lakers back at the top of the Western Conference but it would be
