start with this this is a critical stretch for the Steelers season it also feels like it could be a critical stretch for Russell Wilson’s future yeah you’re absolutely right because right now the Steelers do not have a quarterback on their 2025 roster that’s currently on the roster right now Russell Wilson I think is playing to determine his future whether that is in Pittsburgh or somewhere else because right now he’s playing on a very team-friendly deal right he’s told Hannah Storm he wants to play for five to seven more years I do not see a world in which the Steelers are ready to commit five to seven more years to Russell Wilson but hey maybe three years maybe in the realm of a baker Mayfield contract because the way that Russell Wilson is playing right now is the best of his career he has the lowest interception rate since believe 2019 thanks to hembo lowest sack rate since 20121 and his highest rate of explosive plays 25% of his completions have gone for explosive plays so if he keeps that up over this stretch as the Steelers are trying to not only clinch a playoff spot but also maybe a home playoff game maybe even a first round buy all of those things I think factor in to him staying in Pittsburgh in an organization where he’s winning and that fits him and he fits the organization I’m not going to lie to you let me bring the rest of the guys in here as we continue this conversation if you had told me before the season began I’m I’m the first to admit when I’m wrong because I have a lot of experience at it I’m wrong a lot if you had told me before the season began the Steelers will resign one of the two guys they have on their roster I would have bet you anything you wanted to that it was going to be Justin Fields you are my beloved former Steeler do you believe Russell Wilson is the future I do and I and he doesn’t have to be the future for the next 5 to 10 years but I do believe he’s the future for the next two to three the way that Russell Wilson has played has not only re-energized and revived the offens of the Pittsburgh Steelers but the entire organization and you can just watch the way that he interacts with Coach Tomlin I believe that Russell Wilson wants to be a part of the Pittsburgh Steelers as well but when this team was sitting at 4-2 with Justin Phils I like many of us said we believe that going forward Justin field should be the starter of this team based on what we saw from Russell wlson the last few years but we were all wrong and that’s why coach Tomlin gets paid what he does how would you handle this Mike T yeah i’ sign him right now not in 10 minutes not next week it’s only to get more expensive and let’s get Russell Wilson you giving him one of these big I mean the cont yeah 18 to20 million you got to you know pay line is he taking that yeah because here’s why Russell Russell Wilson can’t you go out on the open market no no no no as Brook just said because it fits there greeny and look he could Russell Wilson a ton of credit because he has resurrected his career and Mike tomama made what to me was the right decision not the easy one yes as RC just said benching Justin Fields despite being 4- two took a lot of gut all right uh nothing to see here folks yeah exactly uh coming to you first do you have more confidence in Pittsburgh or Philly uh for me I still have confidence in the Eagles I still think the AJ Brown HTS of it all is an issue the passing a is an issue but I have more confidence in the Eagles number one madog who’s the more talented team top the bottom Philadelphia okay and when I look at the Steelers for me the absence of George Pickins that looms large to me last week Russell had aund he threw for 158 yards that’s 113 yards 113 yards less than his per average game when it comes to passing yards so the absence Pickin now you’re forcing Russell who are are you going to go to they have weapons but it’s usually the George Pickin route that they go to and top to bottom like despite the passing game and everything they still have saquan even though the offense is skewed toward the Run game right now saquana is killing it and they are winning games so I for me the Eagles are still the more talented team and I have more faith in them well if you’re asking who I have more faith in this weekend it would be the Eagles because Pickins is questionable he’s doubtful actually uh if you’re asking me overall as this season progresses I would tell you the Steelers because I have more faith in Mike Tomlin I have more faith in their structure their cohesiveness their togetherness and Steelers defense isn’t shabby with the way Russell Wilson is throwing the football compared to uh the inconsistencies at the very least of a Jaylen Herz I think you have to look at it from that standpoint now a path of least resistance may very well be in the NFC because when you think about the Eagles the one formidable team that’s standing in their way is the Detroit Lions whereas in the AFC you’re the Steelers you’ve got the the Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills to deal with and we can’t ignore the Ravens we understand what goes on in the AFC North but you can’t ignore Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry and those boys so I just look at it from that standpoint but I got to tell you based on I I don’t I don’t knock what serani has said but I can’t ignore what I’m seeing from Jaylen Herz what is it two passes for 20 or more air yards over the last four games I mean come on now you haven’t you haven’t thrown for over 200 yards you thrown for under 200 yards over the last three games um when you see Jaylen Herz there’s been a precipitous drop off from where he was the year they went to the Super Bowl to last year obviously and now to this year that’s really really problematic that’s something they’ve got to fix I I generally agree with everything you said Stevie uh and I’m very surprised you know these games both of them are at the same time you guys waxing poetic on Buffalo Detroit well Pittsburgh and Philadelphia is also at 4:30 so you got the two games how you going to watch both games and both are on double headers Fox and CBS I don’t understand hold doggy have you don’t you have the YouTube package there’s four games that you can see on one games on one screen I usually that’s expensive so I have see four games on one screen say it’s too expensive so sometimes I don’t like to get the YouTube it’s expensive so I just want to well how about the poor slab there in Brooklyn if I can afford you TV you can afford YouTube TV you can afford it you can afford it all league pass you can afford all of it very very well well we know I’m the poorest one at the table now you’re used to Texas anyway here here’s my question for both of you Pittsburgh ends the season with the Eagles Baltimore KC and the Bengals so they’re facing two division Rivals Philly ends the season with Pittsburgh Washington Dallas and New York Giants and you still feel stepen still feels more confident in the Steelers given who they have to play remaining well well well well first of all the the Steelers might be the Steelers might be the only team in NFL history that has a three-week bye I mean the Cowboys and the Giants I mean please that’s a bye yes I I don’t expect anything from that I don’t expect them to cause any problems for the Pittsburgh Steelers I really really don’t that’s the Philly schule that’s the eagle schedule my dear oh I’m sorry I’m sorry my bad now I’m mad I was joking I was joking you caught me go ahead yeah yeah go yeah so your your beloved Steelers could go one and three they could go they they could go two and two to end the season whereas you look at the Eagles I I see them finishing the season off stronger and obviously that’s but Stevie’s point is well taken though on one thing I trust Tomlin and the Pittsburgh structure better than I would trust Philadelphia and I because the AJ Brown thing you know last year they collapsed at the end of the year they won last week he’s all upset serani I don’t trust trust that Steelers I mean he’s never had a losing losing season tomlin’s a you know a Hall of Fame coach so I just today well why am I a lot for I point you are but I mean come on I will I will say this you’re just off the Philly bandwagon there’s one post press conference year you can’t look a last year and say there’s no there’s no bigger there’s no bigger Tomlin fan than me but the Pittsburgh Steelers have not won a playoff game since 2016 okay we that call has be I’m going to need a underdogs or five and a half Point underdogs they haven’t won in Philadelphia since I was four month months old October of 1965 over under a 42 and a half Pittsburgh is 10 and3 against the spread this season that’s tied for the best in the NFL I am 9 and four straight up and nine and4 against the spread in Steelers games who do you have well this is like your new Vikings go ahead you started off to town for a key December late afternoon game right that was when it all started to fall apart for the Philadelphia Eagles we still don’t know exactly what happened I almost feel like even though know everyone’s paying attention it’s almost like let’s prove to the world this isn’t an issue doesn’t solve whatever the issue might be but let’s show it’s not an issue they’ve got saquan Barkley the Steelers don’t the Steelers apparently won’t have George Pickins that’s a problem I just think if this was in Pittsburgh i’ I’d be on board with my according to you second favorite team this is in Philly the Eagles are chasing the Lions the Eagles understand that everyone’s scrutinizing them now I think they rise to the moment they rise to the occasion I’m not giving them the cover though five and a half’s too much 2320 Eagles win the game maybe on a late field goal but I don’t think that that it’s going to be more than five and a half points whatever the outcome 2320 Philadelphia and we know it’s it’s for sure Pickins I mean that is that like where where is that officially at way that the way that Mike Tomlin was talking about it on Tuesday it sure sounds like we’re not going to see him but it’s not official yet yeah okay all right either way that that would worry me and of course that would even sway me more into the Philadelphia’s favor Pittsburgh defense we know is damn good we got that right but this is a different animal in which they’re facing as good as they are at stopping the run and all of that even against the Eagles you got to put more people in to stop the run I don’t care how good you are because they’re just that big and that powerful up front and he’s that damn good at running back and then these are usually the games where there’s another play or two as far as quarterback design runs for Jaylen Herz in this type of football game I think to your point too like they’re going to go a little bit extra out of the way to get the offense off this week without lack of a better way to say it get AJ Brown and that going I I think it is to your point I think it’s going to be more of a motivational thing this time around for Philly rather than last year dysfunction fall apart I’m going to look at it that way and then here’s my biggest question Mike especially if they don’t have George Pickins are the Steelers going to be able to move the ball in the Eagles that’s what I really worry about I I mean again the eagles they like to play zone but they can play manto man and they and this is not like the most overly complicated passing offense in the world and I don’t expect the Steelers to be able to run the ball in Philadelphia I think Phil is going to whoop that ass I’m going to take them 2714 wow wow I think hello Steelers fans today we bring help Philadelphia adjust their strategy with such a dominant defensive record it will be interesting to see if the Eagles can capitalize on this advantage in the head-to-head matchup one thing is
