breaking news Pat Riley fires back on the Jimmy Butler trade rumors where does this leave things for Miami and for their star Wing I’m Trevor Lane this is the basketball bulletin make sure you subscribe to the channel we’re going to keep you on top of everything going on in a busy NBA trade market so this is Pat rley responding to recent rumors uh we usually don’t comment on rumors but all this speculation has become a distraction to the team and is not fair to the players and coaches therefore we will make it clear we are not trading Jimmy Butler all right so that’s Pat Riley saying flat out we are not trading Jimmy Butler and there’s been a ton of speculation and Jimmy was reportedly upset that the Miami Heat didn’t publicly deny the speculation a few weeks ago and that is in part what led this was what was coming out yesterday to Shams terrania posting this that the that his sources tell him that Jimmy Butler prefers a trade out of Miami ahead of the February 6th trade deadline so this was yesterday Christmas Day Jimmy Butler prefers to trade out of Miami and then subsequent reporting suggested that Jimmy was a little bit upset that the Miami Heat didn’t immediately deny the rumors that they were considering a trade and that’s part of why he preferred a trade out of Miami and now Pat Riley seemingly acquiescing to Jimmy Butler’s preference that the Miami heat put out there publicly that they’re not looking to trade him and issues this statement again saying that we don’t normally speak publicly on rumors but it’s a distraction to the team maybe it’s also a distraction to Jimmy Butler like that Jimmy was mad that the heat didn’t immediately deny that they were looking to potentially trade him and so then he puts out there or somehow it gets out there that he would prefer to be traded away from Miami and then the next day suddenly Pat Riley is issuing a statement saying exactly what Jimmy had wanted him to say say previously it waset the the drama continues everybody the drama continues in Miami he says we’ll make it clear we are not trading Jimmy Butler all right now the question becomes is this the truth do we buy this or is this spin to Plate Jimmy Butler because Jimmy was mad that the Miami didn’t immediately deny reportedly anyway didn’t immediately deny that they were looking to trade him so now they’re saying we’re not trading them is this the truth though I’m going to take a look at the whole situation do we actually buy this or are we very quickly going to turn things around and say well we just got an offer that you know we felt like was in the best interest of the franchise which is where I think maybe this does wind up heading but before we do that let me give a quick shout out to our sponsor and that is prize picks $50 once you play $5 in lineups all right so looking at some of tonight’s action here we do have uh the Toronto Raptors going up against the Memphis Grizzlies we’ve got great there uh balal kabali against Charlotte three and a half assist Giannis Giannis has been on a tear lately I I got it I got to go with Giannis more than 30 points Giannis has been absolutely phenomenal I’m going to go there uh let’s see lamelo ball against Washington I think there’s going to be a lot of Miss shots in that game 3.5 rebounds I think he can get that one it is a uh it is what a goblin payout which means it’s easier to win but you know what I like winning so I’m going to take that one then let’s see what else do we want to pick one more here Trey young against Chicago 11 and a half assists he’s been racking up the assists lately so that is interesting Jaylen Williams 23 and a half points that’s just a bit much yeah you know what I’m gonna go with Trey I think he gets more than 11 and half assists he’s been great so far so that’s what I’m looking at again that’s how easy it is just go pick more or less and you can win turn your knowledge of ball in to cash go check it out again use that code bulletin and get a guaranteed $50 once you play $5 in lineups great sponsor for our show prize picks all right let’s get into this what does this ultimately mean do we believe Pat Ry or is this just spin well look the Miami Heat are they going to trade Jimmy Butler look they’ve talked extension they talked extension with with Jimmy but Jimmy wants a big deal he it’s a long-term deal uh with the Miami Heat or someone else and right now I don’t know if that that deal is out there for him a long-term cont so that’s the other piece to this there’s been a lot of talk about well Jimmy to the Warriors wouldn’t the Warriors make sense and given what happened to the warriors on Christmas Day the loss to to the Lakers um does that even provide more motivation for them to go out and get Jimmy Butler would you be willing to to swap Jonathan kaminga to get Jimmy Butler look honestly from the side of the Miami Heat if you could get Jonathan kaminga if you could get Andrew Wiggins who would have to be and you can argue maybe the Warriors shouldn’t do that but if you can get Andrew Wiggins if you can get some of these pieces I think the Miami Heat could put themselves in a better situation I’m not going to bet against Jimmy Butler in a playoff scenario in a playoff scenario he’s a guy I want on my side and that’s why the Warriors would potentially do a trade like that but if I’m Miami and I can take advantage of a Warriors team that needs to make a move right now and seems to have some interest Jimmy Butler I would do it I don’t buy the other Landing spots Brooklyn in free agency not happening Brooklyn doesn’t want him nor should they please Brooklyn don’t do that that’s insane for the Brooklyn Nets store and they’re one of the few teams with cap space Washington they don’t want them they’re still trying to tear down not build up so for the the heat there is some certainty that Jimmy can’t really walk in free agency if he decides he wants to go somewhere else it’ll have to be a sign and trade because there isn’t cap space out there teams with cap space teams that have cap space don’t make sense as Landing spots for them but if I’m the Miami Heat and the Warriors are saying you know what we’ll part with a talented young player we’ll part with kaminga we’ll give you some matching salary we’ll give you some expiring I wouldn’t I I think the Miami Heat could put themselves in a better situation if they do that so I’d be open to that the question though that maybe we’re not talking enough about when we’re looking at these Jimmy Butler trades it’s not do the Warriors want Jimmy because I think the answer is and should be yes the the question isn’t should the Miami Heat want to get a package of young players and maybe some draft capital or something like that and some expiring contracts things of that nature in exchange for Jimmy because again whether or not they actually do I think the answer should be yes the question may be are the Warriors or whatever team we’re talking about here whether it’s Houston who has told everybody they’re not trying to go buy a veteran star that’s not what they’re looking to do they want to keep their young Corps available whether it’s Dallas any of the other teams that have been mentioned I think Memphis would be a great fit by the way for Jimmy Butler but but regardless of who it is a big piece of it is are they willing to give Jimmy his next contract that’s a big what are the War and what is the what does that look like if the Warriors say hey Jimmy if we trade for you we are willing to do three years 90 million 30 million per and if Jimmy says no I’m making 52 million on my player option next year I’m not doing that and that’s all the Warriors are willing to do that can Scuttle the deal right there and again we’re probably not spending enough time talking about that because that’s going to be a key piece teams if you’re the Warriors again I keep going back to this example but if you’re the Warriors you don’t want to give up a young player like Jonathan kaminga regardless of whether or not they want to commit Max money to him long term you don’t want to give up a piece like that for half a season of Jimmy Butler and then he’s going to hit free agency and then who knows with Jimmy maybe the market is so crazy that Jimmy winds up taking a one-year mid-level exception deal somewhere just to spite the teams that wouldn’t give him the full max deal now I’m not expecting that to happen and I think Jimmy would be crazy to do something like that but just saying you don’t want to put yourself in that situation with that unknown so you need to know what it is number one that you’re willing to pay Jimmy on his next contract at 35 years old knowing that he misses multiple games every single year he misses a good chunk of games games every year it’s one of the Miami Heat’s problems with him he misses a good chunk of games every single year and you have to decide number one what that number is how many years how much are you willing to give Jimmy Butler again admittedly this is a dude that you want on your side in the postseason you just you flat out that you want this guy on your team come playoff time there’s that and then what is Jimmy willing to accept what is he willing to take what will he he say yes two because if number one what you’re willing to pay and number two what Jimmy will accept are not the same if there is no overlap there that by itself could change the whole dynamic of a potential deal either happening or not happening that’s the issue with a Jimmy Butler trade and now you’ve got Pat Riley coming out and saying flat out we’re not trading Jimmy Butler well maybe he’s already explored the trade market maybe he’s already explored the trade market with Jimmy and he’s seen that despite Jimmy Butler leading them to the NBA finals multiple times now the Miami Heat maybe he’s explored the trade market and it’s not there maybe the Warriors only want to give Jimmy again maybe they want to give him 30 million maybe they want to give him two years 60 I don’t know it’d be crazy but maybe that’s what they want to give him and Miami knows Jimmy’s not going to say yes to that deal so the Warriors aren’t willing to do the trade and then what are you going to do Dallas doesn’t make a lot of sense even if Jimmy wants to go there Houston is telling everybody who will listen they don’t want to break up their young core for an aging star the fact is Jimmy Butler’s 35 years old and it could be that at this point there’s just not a easy deal out there and that’s got Pat Riley saying you know what we might as well smooth things over with Jimmy because it doesn’t look like we’re going to be able to find a deal so let’s just smooth things over with him and let’s tell everybody we’re just we’re not trading him and let’s try to make the best of this situation now could this change yeah absolutely this could one phone call changes this one phone call changes this but I think that is a piece to this that we need to factor in what does the next contract look like for Jimmy Butler and who is willing to pay to pay that again I keep going back to the Warriors I think the Warriors make sense as a landing spot for him I think the Warriors need to make a move to win right now I think Jimmy would be a great fit for them I think he gives them what they need if Miami says flat out we’re not trading him if the Warriors say we’re not willing to give up let’s say commit and good to get him and you can make the argument that they shouldn’t and if Jimmy isn’t getting the deal that he wants from Golden State all of those things could crush the deal and maybe that’s what’s happened maybe that’s what’s happened and that’s why now Miami is coming out saying we’re not trading Jimmy Butler but again the twists the turns in this situation you just never know what what’s going to happen on the NBA trade market and it’s part of what makes it so great and so much fun once again everybody I do appreciate you joining let me know in the comments down below what do you do you buy Pat Riley saying we are not trading Jimmy Butler he was very matter of fact about it do you buy it is it the truth or is Jimmy Butler playing somewhere else by February 6 let me know in the comment section down below and make sure you go check out our latest video we did one yesterday on the Jimmy Butler situation and I’ve got a big one coming out later today on the trade front in Chicago and we got a shift there that I think could lead to some fireworks so everybody be on the lookout for that
