it is still Wednesday December 11th 2024 this is an emergency edition of baseball today that is still not my man Trevor ploof it is my dude Jolly Olive I am Chris Rose producer Dan along for the ride as well we already put out our Wednesday show so make sure you check it out it’s got everything on Max freed and the Andre Jimenez deal and Nathan evaldi going back a little bit of uh Roki suzaki as well but we’ve got a trade and it’s a big one and it’s the one that you predicted on our earlier Wednesday Edition Garrett crochet is changing his socks he is getting traded from Chicago’s Southside to Boston for four prospects catcher Kyle teal outfielder Braden Montgomery that’s their last two first round picks I believe infielder Chase meidroth apologize for the mispronunciation and right-hander Wilman Gonzalez just your thoughts off the top of your head here what do you think you’re telling me the Boston Red Sox are trading with the Chicago White Socks for a hard throwing left-hander who’s going to become their Ace is that what you’re telling me it sounds a little familiar there’s no question about it the the delivery might not be as freaky as Chris sales is but it’s pretty close I’m gonna say this uh I did say earlier today that I thought the Boston Red talk had the best package possible to get gar crochet I also said that I didn’t think that they would do it because they’ve been very gunshy31 prospects in the Boston system are in this trade there are some good players going back to Chicago but I think this is a win-win for both sides because the white sock are still getting a pretty decent package probably better than you know the offers that could have come from the New York Mets or other teams that were interested and uh in the other vein the Red Sox finally get a topend level starting pitcher one with tons of years of control one who’s young one who showed great potential last year and could get even better yeah so he’s only 25 years old and we hadn’t known him is anything other than a really cool looking Bullpen arm until last season right he hadn’t made a start until last year so the good news is you are getting hopefully the best Innings of his career ahead right he’s already had one major arm surgery um so hopefully he’s gotten that out of the way the thing that’s going against him is this he’s never pitched a meaningful start I mean you could say at the beginning of last year you know the white we knew the white sock were going to start suck now he is joining pressure cooker Boston I don’t personally think that’s going to be a bother some people say well I want a guy that’s a little more battle tested from the starting role I can understand that I think it is totally worth the squeeze here 100% on top of that when Boston made the trade for Chris Sale many moons ago they gave up the number one Prospect in baseball Yan Manata yes they also gave up their most highly touted pitching Prospect I believe at the time in Michael copek both guys have become good to solid Major Leaguers they helped turn around Chicago they helped make him a Division champion and all that I would say overall you’d look at monata and you’d say yeah he’s been decent copc found his way to the back end of the bullpen and was a star for the Dodgers in helping them win the World Series um Chicago has got a lot of work to do and you hope that two of these four pieces particularly the one behind the plate in Kyle teal shakes out because if not you’re going to be kicking yourself yeah I mean this this package is Laden with former first round picks the biggest one being Kyle teal who was the number four Prospect in Boston system a lot of people are excited about him he’s a catcher who’s displayed the ability to hit and hit very very well he had an Ops north of 1100 in college before he got drafted he’s been hitting well in doublea and AAA looks like he could make his debut this year and best of all I think some of the questions surrounding when they acquired Edgar quero from the Angels a deadline ago was Edgar quo’s defensive limitations those don’t exist with Kyle teal he grades out with a very powerful arm uh looks to be a plus defensive back stop so he looks to be a very well-rounded player we’ll see how he hits Major League pitching and then Montgomery fell in the draft last year for the Boston Red Sox to pick 14 uh but he was projected to go a lot higher before he got hurt so he’s a great value pick there it’ll be a little bit longer before he reaches Major League tenure but the white sock are in no rush to get these guys up to the show like you said they have a ton of work to do and so do the Boston Red Sox because this isn’t the end what I followed up with after we had our crochet discussion is that there’s no reason why the Red Sox can’t make the crochet deal and still pursue Corbin Burns that is still true it’s way more realistic now and that’s got to be exciting because whatever package or whatever uh deal you offered Max freed yesterday you can offer that and more to Corbin Burns and I think that’s more than fair to ask if the Red Sox for an office and suddenly you find yourself with a Burns crochet beo cutter Crawford Tanner Hal rotation that becomes one of the best in the American League in my opinion uh so like I said work to be done but this is a great start and don’t forget about our buddy Lucas gelo who of course is coming of course from elbow surgery and uh will certainly provide some veteran leadership and some innings in that rotation moving forward the other thing is is that the team can get better because if you look at at what they’re paying guys the only dudes they are paying in 2025 are Des who’s making 29 a half Trevor story 22 and a half Yoshida who we keep hearing might be traded uh at 186 um Geo I think is making 17 or 18 but that’s pretty much it you aren’t paying Whitlock much you’re paying him five and a half uh you’re not paying Tanner hul yet you’re not paying jiren Duran yet you’re not paying cutter Crawford you’re not paying Connor Wong so you can make some moves and I would say toward maybe the back end of the bullpen I would you know do you look at Tanner Scott something like that why not do you want to try and make one more trade and try and pry Devin Williams away from the Milwaukee Brewers if that’s it I I I just think that Boston was too far behind good teams like New York and Baltimore I just didn’t feel like they were within half a lap of those teams this is obviously gonna help but you can’t stop right here in my opinion right this in my opinion gets them past the Blue Jays I had those two teams kind of in lock step in terms of like we’re in the wilderness what are we doing this puts them above in my opinion I don’t think the Blue Jays have a pitcher with this much upside but like you said there’s so much more they can do G crochet is going to earn $800,000 this year year that’s a microscopic percentage of the Boston Red Sox payroll uh and if it is Bullpen because it certainly doesn’t need to be offense for this team they have a pretty complete lineup right now in my opinion if it’s Tanner Scott great if it’s a trade and extension for de Williams you certainly have the Prospect Capital to get that done you just got a crochet deal uh done as well so the possibilities have opened up for the Boston Red Sox we talked a little bit about how signing Max freed opened up roads to take for the Yankees now you have roads to take for the Boston Red Sox you’ve opened yourself up to a lot of possibilities I still think the best road is investing a lot of that capital in Corbin Burns and part of that is the fan in me wants to see the two biggest starting pitchers go to the two biggest Rivals and have them face off year in and year out for the next five years that’s just the baseball fan in me and I think I can see it as well I can see Corin Burns at a Red Sox unform and I’m sure a lot of Boston fans would agree with me there uh so a lot to love about this deal we’ll see with the workload concerns of Carrick crochet he hasn’t really ever season he has never pitched over 150 Innings 146 this past year was His Highest of his career uh but the upside is there man a 12.9k per nine over 32 starts 209 strikeouts in 146 Innings at age 25 that is serious serious stuff a lot of baseball players get better in their late 20s uh more importantly about crochet remember there were those rumors that he was going to be traded right around the All-Star break he did not Pitch more than four Innings from July on so that that’s some weird stuff that’s something that he’s going to have to get past now he’s a big strong kid I think he should be fine if they push him to 180 Innings I think he’ll be okay this year you know hopefully he’ll be healthy enough to have them in playoff contention and then go through October if that’s where they’re good enough the question I’ve got is would you would you rather go after Corbin Burns if you Boston and pay the $ 200 plus million it’s going to take if Max freed got eight for 218 I think that Corbin Burns is getting at least that if not a little bit more maybe 230 240 something like that or would you rather try and bring in an Alex bregman Type move des and trade Casas for something else that’s where you lost me right at the end is where you lost me you you cannot trade Tristan casus in my opinion I think his upside is tremendous I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him I think you’re trading him at a low value if you do this he was hurt most of last year with that being said as long as you spend $200 million at least on someone I don’t think you’re making a wrong move if you’re the Boston Red Sox you can strengthen their strength by bringing in bregman with that uh green monster wall that I think would be a doubles machine for bregman he can solidify third base and you can move Des to First plus a little bit of infield Insurance because we know the injury concern with Trevor story that’s still lingering over the Boston roster and then conversely like I said Corbin Burns would be a fine move as well a move that would take him away from the Baltimore Orioles which by the way this should be a wakeup call for the Baltimore Orioles it’s time to go what are we doing even the Toronto Blue Jays are making traits even if they’re a little bit confusing but the Orioles besides Tyler O’Neal have been dormant and they have so much to do it looks like the Boston Red Sox I feel are poised to move into that top two Al spot once again if the Orioles continue to just be stagnant yeah the Orioles are befuddling to me I I don’t get them and by the way Gary Sanchez would like a word with you oh excuse me they moov the wall in for him absolutely um this is embarrassing I have called for this for the last year plus I wanted them to go get Carlos rodon a few years ago sure that that didn’t happen uh I wanted them to make a a trade for some big big name out there I mean Zack a was a nice pickup for them during the year he is not in the category of a Max freed a Corbin Burns a Garrett crochet he’s a good solid pitcher that you throw out there in a playoff game to start and you don’t feel bad about it I mean Rosie you want to talk about teams that could have put together a crochet pack absolutely the Baltimore Orioles easily could have put their best foot forward here and they decided not they weren’t even rumored to be involved in this they are they are Prospect hugging to the nth degree and they’re they’re a team that needs to get going so if you’re Corbin Burns I think you’re calling two teams and his Representatives you’re calling Baltimore and you’re calling the San Francisco Giants who obviously lost out on Blake Snell but already spent $182 plus million dollars on Willie Adamas and it looks like Buster posing means business and for Baltimore the story is easy you’ve got brand new ownership a guy who is from Baltimore that loves this team that will go out there and hang with the fans in left center field and spray stop spraying the thing and tell your front office it is okay to spend all this money because by the way there they haven’t paid gunar yet they haven’t paid adley yet they haven’t paid Colton cowser who just had you know a great rookie year like the time is now let’s go do something now and whenn you know I don’t know uh while we’re here where do you think bregman ends up because now there’s there’s rumors out there that the Yankees I know really sniffing around I’m shocked by that I really am and it seems credible I forget who who it came from I saw I saw Brian hul I thought had it yeah which I that’s a that’s a name I trust a lot I don’t know I mean maybe I mean I’m loving I am loving the intersection of Yankees Red Sox free agent and trade Pursuits right now it feels like they’re all in on the exact same guys it feels very reminiscent of old um I I still I can’t Envision bregman going into the Yankees and I think a lot of Yankee fans here would agree just in terms of even outside of the baggage and all that stuff I just don’t think he profiles as well in that Stadium there’s always that weird left field stuff with him um their infield defense with jazz at third was actually pretty good last year in the second half I know it’s a little bit of an experiment but they have a talented Fielder there um and he just makes so much sense for the Red Sox I it it gets you out of Des at third base which was such a defensive detriment and Trevor story stays healthy I still believe in that glove and suddenly left side of your infield is not a weakness it’s a strength he was cor’s guy in Houston too so my lean is definitely Red Sox if I’m picking between those two teams all right so you’re okay with putting Des as a what 27y old DH just calling it a day right you made your bed I mean if you want to do a whole rig a roll I would have given that money to mookie bets but that’s a that’s yeah that discussion’s dead revisionist kind of discussion but they had to give the money to one of them and it would ended up being Rafael des and he’s a great hitter he could probably end up being the best power hitting left-handed hitter in the AL next year um but is he worth all that money will he profile well in the future we’ll see wow so you’re okay with a 20-some $300 million designated hitter if he hits 40 home runs and has it in a thousand doesn’t matter to me okay interesting so once again the breaking news Garrett crochet changing the color of his socks from white to Red Bost strikes at the winter meetings more fun to come once again we are your One-Stop shopping when it comes to breaking news we don’t have to be in Dallas to give you our opinions once again it’s not State media it is johnboy media for our one-of aind producer Dan bror and yes he too is Uber talented that is Olive I am Chris Rose
