The New York Yankees have acquired outfielder and first baseman Cody Bellinger from the Chicago Cubs in a trade where they also received $5 million to help offset Bellinger’s remaining contract. Bellinger, who has two years and $52.5 million left on his deal including a $25 million option for 2026, was traded for right-hander Cody Poteet. This move follows the Yankees’ need to bolster their lineup after losing Juan Soto to the Mets, and Bellinger is expected to play center field, allowing Aaron Judge to return to right field. MLB’s comprehensive study on pitcher injuries concluded that the pursuit of higher velocity and maximum effort pitching are the primary drivers behind the significant increase in arm injuries across all levels of baseball. The study, which involved interviewing over 200 people including former pitchers, coaches, and medical experts, identified that pitchers are chasing “stuff” — which includes velocity, spin, and movement — often at the expense of their arm health. This emphasis on max-effort pitching has led to a notable rise in injuries, with specific mention of increased injury rates during the spring training and early season periods, suggesting that pitchers might not be adequately prepared. The study recommends exploring rule changes to encourage pitcher health and durability over short-term, high-intensity performances 📝

for as long as I can remember fans across baseball have been imagining what a Cody Bellinger might look like with the short porch in Yankee Stadium well we don’t have to imagine anymore Bellinger is a Yankee all over again his dad clay he was also a Yankee so we’re going to break down the Cody Bellinger to the Yankees trade as well as the fact that Major League Baseball just dropped a 62-page research essay on why pitchers have been getting injured more often it’s pretty insightful and you do not want to miss that that’ll be later in the video if you’re brand new to the channel this is MLB recap we give updates on the game of baseball almost every single day so stick around hit that subscribe button and don’t forget that recap is brought to you by seek and Underdog fantasy use code fuzzy so like I mentioned in the intro Cody Bellinger is going to the Yankees he’s going to be roaming the same Outfield that his dad played although it’s not the same Outfield because his dad played in old Yankee Stadium but two things that a lot of fans are talking about on social media before we talk about the trade in depth the first thing we now have three MVPs on another team the Dodgers have bets Otani and Freeman the Yankees have Bellinger judge and Stanton I almost forgot about Stanton and staying with Stanton there’s been some things popping off on social media about what the dynamic of Bellinger and Stanton is going to be like in the clubhouse you might be wondering fuzzy do they have beef or something like that I have no idea but everyone has been talking about the fact that Cody Bellinger’s wife is John Carlos Stanton’s ex I can’t believe I’m talking about this in an MLB recap but hey it’s a story line and people are running with it before we break down Bellinger in center field or first base wherever he’s going to to be playing for the Yankees I want to talk about who the Cubs got now the Cubs they’re getting 30-year-old Cody potit who had a 2.2 ER in about 24 Innings last year at the big league level now the weird thing is the strikeouts were not there he had a 5.9 strikeouts per nine in Major League Baseball which again it’s weird because he had a 10.2 strikeouts per nine in 53 innings in the minor leagues throughout 2024 so it just kind of doesn’t make sense how the strikeouts almost were haved as soon as he joins the Yankees one thing to note about Cody Poe even though he’s on the older side he still has an amazing change up again the strikeouts have been there in the minor leagues he’s very good at avoiding barrels and he’s probably going to be used like a Hayden West neski he’s going to be a spot starter maybe a reliever every so often so he’s going to be Hayden 2.0 in my opinion but maybe he’s got higher upside because he has more experience now one more thing I want to mention real quick the Cubs also sent over some cash with Cody Bellinger to the Yankees and then they got some of that cash back by trading Matt th to the Chicago White Sox so the Yankees got Cody Bellinger and some cash the Cubs gave away cash but then got some back from the white socks in exchange for Matt th so in a few moves Cody poti is a cub Cody Bellinger is a Yankee and Matt th is a white sock let’s focus on Cody Bellinger now the former MVP I do want to break down both teams and what their future could be in terms of the moves that they can make as soon as the next few days or the next week but let’s talk about Cody Bellinger who again won MVP in 2019 after he swatted 47 home runs sometimes I forget it was that much I thought it was like 40 won 47 and that was a few years after he swatted 39 home runs as a rookie of the year in 2017 then he had a 79 Ops plus from 2020 to 2022 a lot of fans and even Bellinger will say that that was in large part because he wasn’t fully healthy his shoulder was completely a wreck he then popped off for the Cubs in 2023 he was mvy belly all over again he almost hit 310 with 26 home runs and then 2024 came around where he again wasn’t his normal 100% healthy self he almost hit 270 with 18 home runs which is still pretty good and I say that because he played in Wrigley Field if he played in Yankee Stadium all of 20124 he would have had 24 expected home runs again Bellinger the reason why he’s such a perfect fit for the Yankees going into 2025 is because he’s a lefty bat with great defense versatility and pop to right field 18 to 24 is a pretty sizable difference Cody will be 30 years old in July so he’s still relatively in his prime kind of the prime of a base basball player used to be 27 to 31 years old now it seems to be earlier than that and almost later than that the prime of the baseball player has really got extended now there were some rumors that the Yankees told Cody to his face that he was going to be the primary center fielder but Aaron Boon he shot those down today he said that they were fake news he’s going to be a center fielder a left fielder a first baseman I thought it was smart that they came out and said came out and said again Aaron boom just said that it was fake news but I thought it was smart to say that Bellinger was an outfielder so if they wanted to stay in the market of a Christian Walker a Pete Alonzo maybe even converting Anthony santand to first base that they could say first base is still open and it’s yours for the taking instead they kind of walk that back I don’t know why I mentioned this earlier but I think that this has been a fantastic pivot from Brian Cashman who has been Brian cashard after losing ju sto getting Max free Devin Williams and Cody Bellinger again to me that’s an insane pivot now the Yankees probably are not going to be done they really need one more power bat whether that’s a Christian Walker Alonzo or S tondere by the way s tondere has played first base and actually I’m not going to lie he was pretty solid defensively we’ve seen Bryce Harper make the switch and Bryce Harper almost want a gold glove it’s just Christian Walker’s insane now if they do make another move they’re going to be really close to the luxury tax and probably get over it so to me the next move that the Yankees have to make is getting rid of Marcus strowman I don’t know how they’re going to do that but hey maybe the A’s take on 80% of that contract just to get to their happy point where other owners aren’t suing them now what does this move mean for the Martian I think that Aaron Boon came out with that com about it being fake news that Bellinger is the center fielder because Jon wasn’t very good in his brief s out there in left field left field is not easy to play in Yankees standing because of the way that the seats look the angles the sun sometimes it’s not easy by any means Jon’s AAA stats looked insane so I still think that he could be a very capable major league baseball player and a future All-Star so I think that he’s going to be a center fielder with Bellinger playing some left field center field if jonw needs a day off versus a tough lefty or something like that or a tough pitcher in in general maybe he plays first base if they don’t pick up a walker or an Alonzo or a sand there what about Spencer Jones the 6’6 6’7 monster who strikes out way too much but the Yankees have refused to include him in basically any trade yes they believe in him that much I’ll say it again this pivot has been absolutely insane but the Yankees have to make one or two more moves one has to be a trade to get rid of Marcus strowman to clear some space try and stay under the luxury tax and if they don’t do that maybe they say f it all over again we don’t care we’ll give money to the poor teams because we’re just running a CH at this point for John fiser and his buddies maybe they go over the luxury tax and keep strowman as a long reliever and then they pick up a walker Alonzo or sand there me personally I think sere at first base would be a lot of fun I’ll keep it a little bit shorter for the Cubs it’s pretty simple what they have to do moving forward they have to extend Kyle Tucker now Kyle Tucker came out and said that the Cubs kind of had the world I’m paraphrasing but he basically said that they can do whatever they want going forward if they play it right so the first thing they got to do extend KY Tucker and they have to figure out third base now me I feel like they’ve already figured it out they’re probably going to give the Reigns to Matt Shaw who could 100% be a dog in my opinion he looks like he could be really good but they have to figure out Third Base maybe they move Michael bus around which I don’t think that would be smart at all but again extend Kyle Tucker figure out third base and get some other setup guys for Porter Hodge who has one of the best pitches in baseball that sweeper if they can really sh up the guys before him the Cubs could be really really good if they add another big bad the final thing I want to talk about MLB did release a 62-page summary on on why pitcher injuries have been happening a little bit more often so they cited that offseason overload and chasing stuff as the main culprit they showed a spike of aisle placements in March and April so they’re basically saying that pitchers overwork themselves chasing velocity and spin as soon as the season ends and then they blow out trying to show it off in spring training they went on to state that reduced workloads and inning limits have actually had the reverse effect in terms of pitcher Health that it really hurts the starting pitchers at all levels because the arm is not used to the strain of Major League Baseball going every 5 days trying to go six or seven Innings they’re not used to that and again they blow out they’ve also found that I placements that’s the injur list in minor league baseball have skyrocketed since 2019 and they’re starting to see more of it because they believe that pre-draft SL pre-signing workloads and this goes back to college high school I mean development ball with travel ball teams travel ball teams are getting so expensive and just kind of out of hand so it makes sense why they’re notating this and their reasoning as to why injuries have spiked but I guess kids and young draes are basically admitting that hey we’re going to have to get this surgery regardless and Tommy John has gotten so good we’re just going to come back from it and even if we’re injured while we’re on a big league team we’re still getting paid and service time so if it’s inevitable might as well try my best to make a big league roster throw as hard as I can if I get hurt doesn’t matter I’m still getting everything I could be getting if I was still playing and there you have it that is today’s recap I hope that you all enjoyed if you did do me a favor leave a like on the video subscribe so you never miss out on the game of baseball stay safe out there and I’ll catch you in the next one thanks for watching
