hi everybody Welcome to the QB school I am JT Sullivan today a very special edition very fired up to share this this is Brett Favre Monday Night Football 2003 I think of this as the game right after his dad died I think his dad died the day before he came out played nationally televised Monday Night Football game and really just goes off and not only does he make some great throws his teammates around him make some great plays this is going to be an absolute blast lock in fired up let’s get it going welcome to the QB school so before we dive into the video a quick reminder about this Channel’s quarterback School patreon Community this is the foundation the group that makes this channel go not only is it a great inexpensive way to support the channel but you get even even more quarterback School content so if you dig this channel you dig the Nuance detail that it brings to it I think you will love the quarterback School patreon Community hop over there join become a member the link is in the video description I appreciate your support as for this video let’s get into it Brett Favre 203 Monday Night Football day after his dad dies third and 11 ripping a bomb down the field to Fergie an absolute massive play and just a perfectly encapsulated Brett far play he’s going to look to our right trying to hit Donald on the basic no Chuck a go ball deep down the field perfectly in stride third and 11 okay now what ends up happening here I’ll call it basic cross a post and a go up top so we end up spinning this thing to closed so it sure looks like Brett is trying to go I’m I’m assuming you wouldn’t want to throw a post in Middlefield closed or post safety he’s probably trying to go here now I’m almost positive that the read is not one to two like this but that is Brett Favre like this is when I see plays like this I think of like John Elway I think of Brett Favre and then you show the arm Talon on Third and 11 to throw this I mean it is deep down the field it is late and it is a strike and again it kind of works out to be a perfect play because we’ve got Middlefield closed we’ve got off down here at the bottom to Javon up top or pressed where’s the Birdman nice jab move go and Brett throws it right down the line right down the red line so as we get into this game there are certainly some jump ball throws but these early Brett Favre bombs again just that’s not looking off y’all that’s playing the play he’s trying to rip it to Donald the other thing I want to mention here is that this guy I know he’s you know Dancing with the Stars infamy but back in the day there was no one I’ve ever seen better at running this basic cross he could run up and like he he almost like jump stopped and then would get in here and it was a it was Art and he was really good at it and you can tell because the Raiders are locked into it red says not there deep down the field dot oh my goodness next one here touchdown pass corner to the number one at the bottom Wesley Walls it’s a little fake it to him throw it to him trying to get it to the back not there unbelievable touch throw going to your left flip your hips beautiful job I mean is in the bucket it is insane unreal arm Talent so what’s going on here quarterback wise we’re going to reverse out we’re going to extend the ball with our right hand and then we’re going to keep going on the move to the left we are faking it to the back trying to throw it to the back so it’s basically like a long extended handoff and that’s kind of one from there with that we’ve got the corner we’ve almost always got the over and we’ve probably got a post On The Backs side and this is not a premium look to throw this corner we’ve got outside leverage you can though really the only place you can throw this is Right Down the Line and again certainly Brett starting to feel it here but this is unreal arm Talent so fake it to him throw it to him not there again go into your left watch him flip his hips no flip stay in rhythm again I mean y’all that’s not bad coverage that’s perfect ball placement dot just unreal and now you start getting the feeling that we might be into something special here in the first half cuz this is an absolute perfect throw next one here another touchdown pass this time we’re going to hit Javon up top a little naked keeper to him no idea what the safety is doing up top trying to drive the over Brett sees it puts it right on him nice job by Walker keeping his feet in bounds again just great vision obviously super talented uh out on the Move comfortable creating getting out there seeing this thing so there’s not a lot of options here y’all old school football we secure the edge who knows what this is supposed to be it ends up being an outside release and he takes it and runs that sideline and it’s paired with an over down here to the bottom so you know if I had to guess I would say this player is not correct sure looks like that from the reaction of the corner after this play but he can’t get a a jam on him uh and this thing’s wide open and Brett does a great job getting out there you know if that wasn’t there besides for the over there’s not a lot of great options so really nice job seeing this thing pop great release from Javon this is kind of you know pre Javon Walker going off in my opinion but man he is locked in feeling it again you can see the DBS chirp at each other down here 31’s like where the hell are you bro where you at damn great job from Brett though you see the action here he got The Right Guard going got Martin going selling that counter or stutter get out there on the edge see it hook it up beautiful next one here third and eight how about that a anticipation up top on the speed out vers a corner Blitz they point it out get the tommer Joker five no hitch dot with anticipation I’m going to run it back just so we can appreciate the anticipation here and then we’ll watch it a few times at the top of the thing five no hitch under Center foot in the ground throwing that thing here’s a speed out for the first down it’s third and eight it’s beautiful all right we’re going to enjoy the hell out of this one that is a capital A anticipation Vitalis size change the color underline increase the font okay beautiful for Locked In on third down I mean this is a treat man let’s go thing of Beauty dot to the wide side hand it to him we are rolling right in front of your guy Barry I love it one two three four five boom ball out right in front of Sherman we got a bloke sighting we got an Al Harris sighting I mean that is a crew right there a little bubba so what’s going on here a lot of things I would classify this as probably Old School 74 protection here comes that Corner blitz so 7 person protection right they’re probably going to these seven right there those three linebacker types in the nickel often times you would have to make a Tom call back in the day now who knows if Brett did this or not but that would basically kick the Declaration so this being the mic with the Tom call now you would go here is the mic so these seven would now be blocked for these three linebacker types so really nice job I think this is Al on green just watching the full game man this dude was a stud a monster awesome job right here with the pass Pro everybody except your boy Chad come on Chad come off on the stunt come off on the Looper get him Cliffy doesn’t matter the timing beats it because Brett gets this thing out three no five no hitch 1 2 3 four 5 boom all his cleats in the ground ripping it so good so good little will Henderson SP siding over there oh that’s not even Alan that’s uh golly what’s his name oh that’s gonna bother me Tony 40 my guy Tony fiser back in the day third down back good for you Tony see it just need Chad to come off you can see Chad eventually sees 50 on the loop man that left side of the line was nice oh my goodness next one here third and 12 we’re going to rip it to Donald down here in the slot driver on the seam looks like closed they rotate to it Brett does a great job of Ripp this thing getting it up and down usually talk about the ceiling somewhere between 18 and 22 gun three hitch ball out rip I mean I think of this and I think this is the quintessential Brett Favre type throw on time decisive he knows what he wants he knows what he wants to get to here they’re going to get to closed he’s going to rotate down it’s going to create this window again the ball is where right on the 49 is so we would want to get that up and down before the 30 won so we’ll see the timing wise but from gun three tight hitch tight reset and the ball is out and we are ripping a heater right down the middle of the field Drive throw into Zone coverage one two three throw again look when Brett throws this thing he’s throwing it right there you can get it up and down you can see the safety coming from the field where’s he catch it right on the 3132 perfectly done hitch B tight reset no heel click rip and then Donald doing Donald things out there love it just so awesome beautiful job here right in the middle of the hashes W I look at Brett with the recoil too so he used to throw it and then he would torque himself so hard this is a pretty good shot of it he would torque himself he would rip this thing so hard that he would recoil and almost look like he’s running backwards so his capacity to torque and generate torque towards his Target you could tell but he could also stop that his front side was so strong he was such a strong dude that then he would bounce out of there and I actually think it used to help him stay healthy cuz he would never hang in there it would look like he’s running away but it was really so violent of a movement he would recoil back out the pocket who see him almost kick back just a thing of beauty man that’s so good next one third n we’re going to take another shot again down here to the bottom Fergie the Birdman good call Dot great catch also that’s big time play we’ll talk about the coverage here this is old school kind of or actually back in the day new school kind of poach tricks is stuff you would see on Third and long so third down we got a long way to go this thing is presenting like middle of the field open right well we’re end up going to kind of poach this thing so he’s going to be looking like he’s hunting up the number three up top so it’s going to create this oneon-one down here to the bottom you let the Birdman do his thing at the line of scrimmage win go get it and a great adjustment to this ball so nice identification from Brett being able to find the oneon-one it’s third n not a lot of great options third n but you can see where’s the oneon-one post Snap that’s easy to see with that safety down here to the bottom hunting up the wide side that number three to the field mean shoot he’s running to him the ball’s in the air the other way he’s running to the number three and then again the arm Talent the accuracy he’s obviously on a heater and that’s just a beautiful job you know maybe not my favorite footwork at the top of that thing but it doesn’t matter you can put it like that and again Watch Brett with the recoil so watch him throw it and then bounce out of there look at that throw look at the throw great catch too Robert that was awesome we got we got a Tim Brown sided are you serious I mean let’s go I hope that’s di BR that’s awesome that is awesome now we are on a pretty good heater up until this point okay we’re up 10 second quarter 7 minutes left to go this this is where it starts to get a little silly we start getting some heat check opportunities we’re going to throw a big post down here to the bottom to Javon Walker this is a great play from Javon this a jump ball there’s no other way to put it now giv his guy a chance good things happen not mad at it but let’s not get confused with this being like a great decision a great throw uh this is Javon doing Javon things down here but before people knew what was up so to the post again there’s a post safety now it looks like I would guess this is Donald on the other side running some sort of double move that definitely looks like it wins but it also looks like we’re booting away from that thing so it was going to be a mile Chuck and so you know given his guy a chance and rewarded for it and and there are certainly plays like this in this game I don’t want them to diminish the amazing throws we saw earlier but you also have to acknowledge the fact that these are some jump balls and we’ve got some dudes on the perimeter that were making some unbelievably contested catches and we’ve got some bad DB play as well but this thing happening in prime time I mean we are we are chucking this thing up there got a na sighing in the backfield as well oh and then go get it he’s down there somewhere I mean y’all this is such a ridiculous catch look at jabon track this thing now again if they could track it they’d be playing offense right and then go make that catch in the end zone hell yeah next one here Javan Walker again this time down here to the bottom they’re going to run a little switch release little old school Venus twist action he’s down there somewhere I mean I love the guys making plays for him uh old school waggle and another thing I want you to pay attention to here uh this dude he probably still is a stud uh Mike wall the left guard this dude could roll he could move watch him get out there and pull that’s not a small human now he kind of plays a little defense there in front of Brett slap but he is moving he is pumping out of there you don’t see a lot of interior guys running like that you don’t see a lot of guys up front running like that and then Javon back there spinning around making a ridiculous satellite catch and this is when it you know we’re into the kind of absurd here when it talks about just hey things are going your way heat him up Chuck it down there he’s down there somewhere nothing about this says we should throw this ball except Javon Walker and he goes up there makes a ridiculous contested catches is that nday what was his name yeah nambi 21 he’s a big old corner too oh my goodness oh my goodness what a play Holy Moly what a great catch just so many cool nostalgic little moments here but I mean look look at Javon he’s running a post he turns to his right here off the other shoulder puts on the brakes and makes that catch after we just saw the other catch oh my God next one here fourth touchdown pass we’re going to hit David Martin on a little slide or sneak flat nice call from Tom and Company just a beautiful job again they did it they had a really nice job and Brett obviously was really good outside the pocket out of structure this is a pretty good example of getting vertical off that fake as well talk a lot about it on this channel but we’re going to run some sort of naked keeper as you come out of here and fake this thing until you know what’s in your lap you want to be getting as vertical as possible so he bred does a nice job of almost staying right down there hash so that he is able to have enough time to throw this thing out there and float it right to him and again Brett had some amazing touch with this he’ done so many of these things these were like handoffs he could do this left-handed he could do this no look uh he could make these things easy but you can see him get vertical out of that fake he doesn’t come out flat and he keeps his space away from that near Defender nice job big 87 get in the end zone get in the action you can see that edge player here as Bubba Goes Around him so right here he’s going to be in our lap so as we fake this thing get depth and allow this thing to happen down the field just a really nice job here locked in on the details again Bret Bret could do this in his sleep he was so good at these types of things just nice Easy Touch ball nice catch too hell yeah so David has a great one there and then we come back we’re going to hit him try to hit him on the seam up top H and it could have been an even better night oh my God look at the touch the touch is so good I mean we’ve got all sorts of sightings out there we got a Nick Luchi sighting out there so this is a this is a old school play that they used to run man what I don’t even remember what they used to call this thing I think they used to call it just you seen I mean it’s something like this a pretty old school type of play and Brett’s able to just drop this thing right down the line and again David almost makes this thing hard on himself because he’s looking seem like it’s supposed to be then he reacts left like a baseball turn looks over his left shoulder comes back right and can’t make the catch I mean there’s a lot of moving going on up top but again you can see watch the Middle Field player so the safety in the middle of the field he’s going to come down here to the bottom de Bubba not there just want I just really want to appreciate the throw cuz I think in my mind before I went back and watched this there were more jump balls than there were there there were certainly some jump balls three big jump balls but there were also some dots look at Bubba at the bottom he can’t believe it what an unbelievable throw right in front of the black hole too oh my God nice job from Green here down here at the bottom too to take on that edge just beautiful touch and again you can almost see again just cuz we’re keep catching the offensive Zone watch Brett post throw there’s a little contact but he still kind of recoils out of there get out of there look at that throw oh my God then the last one here another third and long we’re going to throw a corner down here to the bottom to Donald Driver uh this is another example of a guy just going up making a play there’s nothing about this coverage this read that says make this throw but his guys kept going up kept making plays I would bet right here that Brett is giv the little arrow signal and Javon Walker at the bottom just doesn’t get it doesn’t run quite the right route runs like the first part of Arrow and Brett just kind of sees him gives his guy a chance almost ends up being like a back shoulder corner so again you can see the communication at the line of scrimmage for whatever reason and probably the only reason this guy’s not playing wasn’t playing more at the time just not locked in enough with some of these little details of it whatever this is you know that that’s probably not the route we want when we’re running it with a corner like this so if I had to imagine it’s supposed to just be an old school Arrow play where he comes in and out but again I mean heat check on fire guys in the perimeter making plays for you teammates stepping up for you and Brett Favre just doing Brett Favre things as far as arm Talent giving his guy a chance those guys going up and making plays they were really good I they were a very good perimeter they were a really fun offense when I was there for a little bit the year after but this just you’re never going to get called for that push off down there nice and low Donald go up make a play look at that high point I mean there just so many fun things in this video what a great job so that is a wrap 21 years ago on the day that this thing was released Brett Favre the pack played this game on Monday Night Football uh pretty special on a number of different occasions obviously uh it connected with a national landscape because red Favre’s dad dying the day before Brett Fab going out there playing there’s kind of that iconic shot of his wife and him walking off the field at the end of this thing super just kind of good feels all over the place for somebody going through that kind of traumatic loss of losing a parent uh I think for me personally I also connected with this game a lot because I ended up my dad ended up dying the following spring I was playing in Europe had to come home then had to go back and play for a game didn’t necessarily have this type of game but it was that type of thing where you I just always connected and thought about this game I think this game also uh in my mind kind of has two sides of the coin one I remember Brett just going out there and having that kind of special moment on the national landscape but I also kind of remember as a quarterback being like like those are it’s a lot of jump balls like his dudes were making plays for him that part of the magic that I was just always curious about so to actually get the all 22 for this game and see that I probably wasn’t remembering it exactly how it happened because Brett Fab was making some ridiculous throws in this game now there are absolutely a handful jump ball throws there just are there’s no way you can get around that you can acknowledge the fact that ja Javon Walker was an absolute beast and this was maybe before everyone knew that but my goodness Brett Favre out there ripping it and this team was also very very good I ended up getting traded to the Packers the following year so it was many of the same people it wasn’t the exact same group but my goodness man they were flying around making big plays and Brett was really fun to watch operate I think it’s always a unique thing when you get an opportunity to meet your quote unquote like childhood heroes or people you looked up to for a long time it’s almost impossible to live up to the expectations that you hold in your mind and on a number of levels there was no way Brett ever could but as a football player I think he probably did and maybe even exceeded them uh I think the things that I take away from my time with Brett were a handful of things one I never saw anybody practice harder so the way that we just saw that game film that was how he practiced every day damn near or how he went through walkth through every day uh he practiced full speed all the time and it was really cool to see uh seeing how he throws it I probably didn’t appreciate it at the time of just how special it was with the recoil and his ability to kind of control his body to rip and drive throws just magical throws you knew I knew there were things that I couldn’t do but I didn’t get a chance to really appreciate it every day like I probably should have and then the other thing was that Brett Favre gave me one of the best pieces of advice I ever got in the NFL and it was essentially it wasn’t essentially it was exactly verbatim uh sometimes you got to overcome your coaching I was struggling with a coach I was struggling with the situation and he just came out of his mouth like everyday talk like you got to overcome your coaching and I really took that and that helped me deal with a lot of difficult situations through not only Green Bay but through the rest of my career and I still think of it to today so you do have to overcome your coaching you got to make your uh opportunity yours and own that in that regard and then finally the other thing about it that I think you have to mention nowadays is you know since Brett’s time in Green Bay Brett has probably not had uh say the best kind of public Persona outcome whatever you wanted however you want to identify it I think that’s fair to say okay uh I would also say that you know I’m a California kid he not a California Kid we probably were never going to like Vibe like that but I will say that however ever you want to say now you know whether it’s dickpics fraud uh you know people coming after him it looks like card shows about F Sachs you know there’s all sorts of things that you could say and I think you know there’s even things before I got to Green Bay that you could say about it uh but for this video and for me specifically uh I really enjoyed my time getting a chance to watch him play it was really fun for me to see this all 22 I’m very appreciative uh of the league being able to make some of these things available uh for me to be able to do hopefully more and more of these types of videos if you enjoy it let me know but it was just fun to go back and connect with uh you know a guy who was one of the best to ever do it when he was playing there’s no way I don’t think you I don’t think you can argue that you might say hey his style of play would not work nowadays with all the turnovers the interceptions I would probably push back and say he would probably you know curtail some of those things and be smarter with it but he was a gunslinger and you can see the Gunslinger Vibes just in this video and when things were going good things were going really good and in this game they went really good in a really kind of special uh moment for him and connecting on a national landscape on a Monday night football game on a Prime Time game back in the day when there weren’t 8 billion different ways to watch sports this was a big deal and it was pretty fun to go back and take a peek at so thank you so much for hanging all the way to the end I appreciate you supporting the channel it does mean a lot to me I will see you on the other side have a good one
