else is this a hypothetical it’s nothing’s a hypothetical all right because we don’t we don’t I we don’t do hypotheticals on this podcast I want to make it very very clear we don’t deal with those okay yeah we don’t deal with those okay seriously though this is like a fascinating conversation because we’re going to preview BYU Fresno State in this video just like we’ve done every BYU game this year we still really believe in this BYU team it’s a good basketball team there’s a lot of reasons to root for BYU and believe in this team they’re also coming off an absolute debacle of a performance where they got packed up by Providence they got packed up by Providence card one of the worst dis disappointing performances of the year uh nobody was good except for Dawson Baker and you know it’s kind of a wakeup call this BYU team hasn’t beaten anybody their only win that matters is NC State they got beaten OT by Old Miss they’ve scheduled one of the weakest schedules in the country Big 12 Play is coming I mean they they have the resume of a non- NCA tournament team right now and you’re not going to change that by beating Fresno State not going to change that by beating Wyoming or Florida A&M in the next couple games so there’s work to do that can’t be done until conference play meanwhile while all that’s going on this program is as high as it’s ever been getting AJ Deans to commit to them on first take so all eyes are going to be on BYU basketball in a way they’ve never been I think that’s a fair thing to say and I do kind of question like how do the players on this year’s team approach this for the first time yeah it’s definitely going to be it’s definitely something new I think for BYU basketball um also can I can I put a positive spin on this of this attention besides the fact of about getting AJ Deans and everything surrounding that I’m listening I just want permission I need verbal yes I have permission I’m listening I’m scared okay uh no we just we need more eyes on this program so there’s more of an uproar that this team is ran through uh D Hall oh that’s a good spin yeah so where are you and I at with this team because coming into the year I picked this team to make the final four I still believe fully in the pieces I still fully believe in the pieces I’m not fully like it’s like Monopoly I haven’t played Monopoly in a really long time so I’m going to botch this but uh it like Monopoly when when you buy a bunch of properties right I feel like that’s what I did with BYU I bought a bunch of Provo Monopoly properties I was all gassed up and then I started like going to jail a little bit like the old Miss lost Jail uh the the Providence lost certainly go back to go don’t pass go don’t collect $200 and now I got to mortgage some properties I feel like that’s what I’ve done with my BYU final four stock like I’ve flipped over two of my three BYU cards and basically said yeah I I I need to bail myself out right now if I flip one more over I just lose the game but like they could win me back by just changing some things right like it’s it’s fully within their own control right now right the the the pieces that I bought on this team and the pieces I think everyone should buy and Coach young will eventually buy he’ll eventually get there uh is that this just needs to be the jagor show and everything that is happening needs to be conducive to what jagor does right now I don’t think that’s being done I have faith in the future that will be done and you know this is this BYU team will get better they still have they still have talented players on this basketball team um and yeah I’m not going to fully ever sell my BYU stock as long as they heavy oron and Canon catch is on the team truthfully okay so but we don’t think this is like they’re not going to scrap down in Hall are we sure what would it look like if they scrap him because to me there’s no there’s no connection between Co young and D Hall that would be like that he would feel a certain way like that’s not his guy yeah but he’s treating him like he’s his guy so he’s get like he’s he got grandfathered into being his guy but then eventually he’s going to realize like I want this to be my guy yeah is there any path to BYU being a team we believe in at a national level with D Hall in this role no no thank you because couldn’t we’re kind of being a little harsh to d right he was a good player last year he’s capable of playing okay yeah the shift would be though is that jagor is still the guy the point guard ball in his hand like a d could be a d could be an off ball guy then I’m I’m I’m good with that but this whole like I still want Hall to have like some point guard abilities point guard responsibilities I’m out on you did mention this in the recap though how much of jagor stuff is yegor’s Fault oh oh we we can get to that he needs to play better he needs to play better okay he need to play better he’s better he’s better than like obviously the talent is there he’s young freshman so he does have a little bit of a leeway here but also respectfully he needs to play better he’s better than this him and catches yeah G demon back-to-back Kemp MVPs to open the season Stellar I mean like the 25 and 15 uh no sorry 25 and 11 assists and then uh 20 points God I have this all wrong I’m looking at the wrong columns 18 points 11 assists four rebounds game one 20 points seven assists five rebounds game two looked like a superstar no doubter three of his last four games in single digit scoring again those four games are the games D Hall has been back in the lineup so I do think a pretty direct correlation like we saw no sign of jagor Deon being uninvolved in quiet until D Hall was running point guard again and uh it’s been an adjustment to say the least for both of them I don’t know how you navigate this you have had eight days to try and figure this out though right yeah so what’s your confidence level that Kevin Young’s figured something out in the last eight days uh I mean it’s it’s pretty high but also does it matter because they’re playing Fresno State you’re I mean that’s true president State the the unfortunate truth with this BYU team is that they’re gonna like they’re gonna blow these teams out the these type of teams like I think they’re going to do that like it’s gonna happen at home too like they’re gonna they’re going to do that it’s it’s it’s I can’t really talk about adjustments or what they’re going to do until they get into like the the Big 12 play so I guess yeah the point is if we’re just previewing this game we don’t even need to focus on the serious issues because they’re not going to matter in this game right the the bigger bigger picture issues really are not going to matter in the upcoming game this one Fresno State and then Wyoming and then Florida ANM can I give you the quick Fresno Scout please Fresno State is three and six this season this is a team that has lost all six games they have played against teams inside the kenpom top 300 they lost to Cal State Bakers field by 18 they lost to Santa Clara by 15 San Diego State by 22 Washington state by 11 haven’t been competitive against any of these teams what’s the mo of Fresno State what’s the one identity that they have they play the second fastest Tempo in college basketball they run so much they run as much as anyone BYU’s Tempo has dropped a little bit from where it was they started the season really really fast it’s been slower lately Providence and ncy State were slow games I don’t think that’s necessarily what BYU wants to do or good for BYU if you look at where things are trending they’re at their best when they’re getting out and running uh this is going to be absolutely a game that is in BYU’s wheelhouse super fast a bunch of possessions BYU wants to beat you up on the offensive boards they’re phenomenal as a rebounding team that’s the one thing they do at an elite level 15th in the country and offensive rebounding Fresno State is horrendous at rebounding both offensively and defensively they’re 284 they preventing offensive rebounds so this is going to be a super high possession game bunch of up and down running BYU’s going to rebound all their misses I don’t really see a formula here for anything other than a blowout yeah I I don’t this this seems like a upper 20s level Victory uh where BYU might touch 90 points that’s the expectation I would expect that yeah it I think that combined with all are on us for the first like that’s an it like Kevin young may have a well the world’s watching me for the first I don’t know if this game’s on BYU Network or not but oh actually I believe this game is on ESPN plus okay so some eyes are on you so so my my eyes will be in on a lot of people are going to be at least box score reading after this one um one interesting thing that I talked about in the AJ Deans committed video go watch that if you haven’t se seen it’s on the channel but we reacted live right when AJ Deans committed um one very interesting thing for me with this team is there’s a lot of guys on this team that could be on next year’s team cart and what what is that going to do I mean obviously like they’re just going to keep playing basketball but like knowing AJ deance is coming next year is interesting like are guys excited about that are they excited at the opportunity that people’s eyes are going to be on this program are there some guys who are like well damn I don’t want to play with a first overall pick he’s going to take my shine I don’t know I’m not saying any of these guys are wired that way but normally when a program goes all in on an NBA guy like de bansa and he’s the $5 million man there’s some side effects and changes come and personnel-wise there’s not a lot of changes you look at this team treor is going to graduate Demon’s going pro Canon Catchings could be back Dawson Baker could be back kabada could be back Richie Saunders could be back D Hall could be back that’s like the whole rotation like did am I am I stretching to think like these guys could be in an interesting head space yeah I mean no I don’t think so it’s definitely going to be a change especially given like you look at this year’s team the main guy is jagor right yeah Jor has a pass button at least so it’ll definitely look different I think with the banson there’s definitely probably some of that some of that you know mindset creeping in whether you want to or not um also if it does then don’t let the door hit you on the way out respectfully um there’s not an Untouchable on this basketball team okay at the same time if they got it to work surrounding de bansa with a bunch of Happy that are Shooters would be a pretty good formula it’s basically like this exact same roster build run it back but with deance instead of aor yeah but the Vets need to be able to shoot uh that’s the that’s the one thing um so do whatever you got to do to get di Hall back to what he was last year which was a 36% three-point shooter and the year before that 37% where this year he is 33 from the field 27 from three and 50% from the free throw line in 26 minutes a game I might be back in on D Hall with de bansa alongside him that’s a way better fit than and Joor Dawson d de all D’s Dawson d Deans demon demon Dan and Catchings can they convince jagor to come back and play with AJ they have another D on their team seriously is there any chance that jagor is on next year’s team I think so you think so yeah I do why not because he’s a top five pick in the draft but with the bag I mean they are they supposedly have unlimited Bags Unlimited bags and be the number one pick the next year AJ’s the number one pick next year no that’d be that would be
