in Philadelphia it’s the Hawks one and the Flyers no score that feels like that was the one of the the first times in a while morz faced a shot so nice sustained offensive zone time for the Blackhawks over since the probably the 13 minute Mark of of the opening period so they’ve really tilted the ice back in their favor I was going to say after playing a little bit loose in the first 5 to 10 minutes of this game the Hawks seem to have tightened it up a little bit as they have with with the shots 9 to7 in favor of the Flyers Hawks have the only goal of the game Nolan Allen off the face off at Center Ice the down the left side glass deep into the Zone pushes sanheim into the boards and claims the puck thans it left Point Allen launches a shot blocked in front by York maroon takes the puck back with 46 seconds on the clock A Smith left corner and a pass into the high slot nobody was there and the puck will slide the center ice Martinez there for the Hawks maroon over the flyer line on the right wing coughed up the puck to sanheim set it ahead here’s conne at Center a crossing the hawk line on the left wing waves it down around behind the net to tip it in the right wing board to conne behind the net terisa l in at the right Point firing a shot blocked on the way in tippet now fell down lost the puck Patrick maroon will skate it out to the HW blue line but didn’t clear the zone and the puck is taken back by R Lon who sends it into the near Corner Hawk end Marin spins it behind katne now from the right side boards sends one right toward the crease and down is moric to stop it penalty is going to be called here to the Hawks rest the lineing for the right point firers this deflects up off the glass as the horn sounds ending play in Period number one so the Flyers will open up period number two on the power play not exactly sure what the call is let’s pick it up right now our game referee’s in position to make the callic Min 42 so noan Allen is going to get the gate at the 20 minute Mark for hooking giving the Flyers their first Power Play of the afternoon Ox had one power play we not able to score but the Flyers will open up play in Period number two on the power play they outshot the Blackhawks so far in the hockey game 10 to S Charlie your thoughts overall yeah by the way that was a tough play there with about 12 seconds left Martinez went to pass it over to Nolan Allen and his the pass hit the the goal net and it that’s why Allan couldn’t retrieve the puck and so he turned around and the Flyers were able to keep it into the zone and then the penalty is committed by Allen with like four seconds left so unfortunate situation there by the Blackhawks with the Flyers going to go have a two-minute power play to open the second period but I thought that the second half of the first period John was much better than the first half it looks like it looked like Chicago is struggling to find their legs early on then really settled down and that fourth line really popped in the the first period I don’t mean to be critical of him because I’m not down there on the ice sacrificing like these guys are but Patrick maroon it was we were had the best view probably of any of the broadcast crews in the building he took the puck within 2 feet of the Blackhawk blue line and stopped and instead of pushing that puck just across the blue line which he could have done and make the Flyers totally regroup out of the Zone he brought it back into the hawk end and then the Hawks turned the puck over eventually and that resulted in the penalty so if the Flyers are able to score on this power play this you know my partner Troy Murray I can hear his voice right now in my head saying this all could have been averted and he’s right and that’s the way things go maybe the next time that situation happens Patrick will take the puck and just move it two feet this way over the Blue Line say okay you guys have all got to go out and regroup now all good once again for the Hawks and it was good to see Lucas r on that line for Deuce yeah for sure that was definitely the best line of the period for the Blackhawks reel snapping a 10 game go drought by scoring his second goal of the season I thought it was noteworthy that Luke Richardson went right back to that line out of the the final TV timeout as well uh definitely rewarding that line and I think Luke richardon has been trying to find the right mix of line combinations over the last couple weeks now seemingly changing it up every game um but I think he likes the consistency of that fourth line so far and I wouldn’t be surprised if they got a little bit more ice time than normal yeah for sure I mean we’ve seen that I mean he’s been trying to throw a dart to find the right line combination so he has one that works uh they’re getting rewarded what have you seen from Lucas REO he’s been kind of quiet uh these past few games but getting a shot there and I think he hit a post later after that goal as well yeah he he’s been awesome I I even think the Anaheim game a couple games ago he was he was pretty noticeable but he didn’t really end up on the score sheet at all or kind of seem noticeable when you look at the score sheet just outside of the game but today he’s been excellent he he has three of the seven shots on goal for the Blackhawks obviously has the goal uh too so he’s been noticeable I think the thing that for me watching him this year compared to last year he’s skating with so much more confidence and it was good to see that the healthy scratches I think he was a healthy scratch for four consecutive games to start the season it was good to see that that didn’t take a a hit to his confidence like it he he really really feels like he’s been skating with more confidence lately now I think if you’re the Blackhawks you want him you want to see that translate into production too uh but I think today is a good first step especially this first period I thought he was one of their best players for sure yeah it was really good to see that was a great setup uh as well on that goal uh that early power play for the Hawks what did you see on that I mean the Flyers are fourth in the NHL so they have a good p uh penalty kill but what did you see on that first Power Play yeah the the the good news is the Blackhawks won The Face Off on the power play and they were able to kind of get set up just a little bit I feel like when we’ve watched Blackhawks power plays this season they lose the face off then they the the puckets sent the other way and then they have trouble with the entries but it was nice to see them win the opening faceof of the power play get a couple you know just get some cycle time offensive zone time and then it ended up you know Unfortunately they they didn’t convert on it but it was nice to see them win some faceoffs in that department um so yeah Hawks are going to be on the the kill on the flip side of the special team and I were talking about it the blackha had a couple opportunities there in the final 20 seconds to get the Pu out of the Zone the first one was Pat maroon where he was like two feet away from the Blue Line you’d like to see that puck get out and then Alec Martinez tried sending the puck to Nolan Allen doing kind of a below the goal line pass and it inadvertently hit the net and so Allen was left scrambling trying to find the puck Philadelphia keeps the the puck into the zone and unfortunately Allen ends up taking a hooking penalty so when they they come out here in the second period hopefully the Hawks can can get a big kill because I like the way that they played the first or the the second half of the first period yeah I mean that that power play for to kill off at the beginning seems like a big thing for this team because they’ve talked about carrying over the consistent efforts from game to game and this seems like a big Turning Point uh in the game if they can kill that off do you like what you’ve seen from them so far from a good like solid game plan from that that point yeah I I think the the first six minutes were a little iy um the Flyers definitely had a few chances but I think they’re they really settled down after that first TV timeout in my opinion and you know just putting a bow on the Special Teams too we saw how crucial of a of a department that is where the other day against the Florida Panthers you go one for one on the power play and you go two for two on the penalty kill and that was literally the difference in the hockey game going up against the defending Stanley Cup champion so like to see the Blackhawks kill this off uh to start the second period and then hopefully they can get another Power boy cuz they haven’t had two power boys in a game in like five games so it’s been a tough It’s been a weird stretch for the Blackhawks but uh yeah I like I definitely like the final 13 minutes or so of the first period all right sounds good Charlie the right side Forester in over the Haw line Forester to the half boards FPS it back to the right point to Andre then back to Forester along the right side boards the meof right corner back to Andre right Point send it over top of the left Circle Tyson Forester there lift it back to the line and Andre could not keep it in the hawk Zone he pucked sort of bled over the blue line and hre shot it back into the hawk Zone putting the Flyers offside so Ronaldo down to 135 on the penalty to no and Allen still one nothing Hawks and the face off comes outside the hawk zone and right in front of the fly Anderson will take the draw against cier has been pretty good on draws here so far today but he gets tossed off the dot this time each to take it against Joey Anderson who wins the draw back into on the Hawks and blassic by the way I want to see him rush the puck one I mean he’s he’s no Bobby or but I’ll tell you what he’s not bad rushing that puck here’s a shot from the line by lton kicked is two very good kills by the Blackhawks unfortunate penalty by noan Allen I’m sure he he didn’t like the first penalty that he took um so you want to play a little bit more of a disappointing hockey penalty kill and then immediately going on the kill right after that you kind of bracing for Philadelphia to tie this game up but it was a huge two kills for the Blackhawks and then for them to to get the second one after that I thought was huge just for the confidence of this Blackhawks team cuz not I don’t want to say that you can afford giving up a goal here cuz I feel like the next goal is crucial uh for for either team uh but it just felt like it wasn’t it wouldn’t have been a deflating here we go kind of goal so two really big kills by the Blackhawks and I felt like they they kind of fed off that yeah definitely I mean that’s the thing they’ve been preaching is a full 60 so they they played a pretty good 40 they got to continue that in the in the third period so what do you think about these line shaking up the lines with Bard playing with Tera Vin and uh Taylor Hall yeah interesting um I’m not sure if it has anything to do with uh when when the blackhaw the Blackhawk started with the Dickinson Anderson badar line and Philadelphia ended up countering with the their first line of Shan coutou which is typically their shutdown line as well and so I don’t know if they were trying to get get Bard free him up to play with more offensively skilled players with Taylor Hall and Tav terrain and because it looked like the coutou line ended up staying on Dickinson Anderson and Donado which I I think was a little surprising maybe they saw a situation where they could um you know kind of generate some offense against that line but if you if you would ask Luke Richardson I think he would want Jason Dickinson’s line on Shan Couture’s line so interesting decision there by by John torella uh but I like the idea to put Hall Bard and terrain together because you just kind of want kind of want all three of them to start getting going offensively and tan obviously had these coming off backto back games with a point you want to get Bard going but I’m sure you also want to get Taylor Hall going offensively too yeah I mean that’s why you brought those two here see if they could play with Conor vidard uh what have you seen from him looking at this sheet it looks like he hasn’t gotten a shot on goal yet kind of quiet in this one yeah I thought that he might they were going to give him a shot on goal on that backhand uh shot right at the end of the period but I’m I’m guessing it hit the the side of the post or maybe the uh the net um so he has two shot attempts no shots on goal again that’s that’s probably part of the reason why they’re they’re putting him on the line with Terra vinan and Hall to to get him going and I like the move to the wing moving Conor there uh on a line with Dickinson the last couple games because you can tell it freed him up a little bit um I I thought he would be generating a lot more in this game against the Flyers cuz I feel like it was kind of there on a silver platter that the Flyers aren’t the really the strongest defensive team but I wouldn’t be surprised if Conor makes a push here in the third and ends up you know finishing with a couple shots on goal cuz you know he’s you know he wants it badly yeah reel snapped his Go drout Hopefully but can do that as well what’s one thing you want to see the Hawks do to do to bring this home yeah I I think not sitting on this lead and actually pursuing being the aggressor in the third period and getting that third call that third goal because if the Flyers score in the third period man it’s going to you’re going to feel the the crowd is is going to start to to get riled up the Blackhawks are going to maybe start to feel like they psychologically need to protect the lead and play on their heel a little bit I’d like to see them come into this third period playing on their toes Nick Felino had said it a few games ago saying um I think it was after the Anaheim game or the Florida game saying we want to get the next goal after you know if we’re holding on to a onego lead in the third period let’s try to get that next one and not try to sit on it um so I think I think if you’re the Blackhawks the focus would be hopefully they get a power play cuz they’re still stuck on one I thought maybe they’d get a second one at some point so hopefully they get a power play they can capitalize on that and then maybe that that kind of like seals the deal for them mentally yeah go go win the game instead of trying not to lose the game sounds like sounds like a good plan the prevent defense never works no no we’ve seen that in this town too yeah exactly all right Charlie caught him in the headgear we have 129 left in regulation of a two2 game yeah Flyers are really pushing in this third period I mean it’s a tie game but it’s almost like that they’re trying to get the third one and not let it get into overtime whereas typically you’ll see both teams kind of settle you get a point we’ll get a point let’s get this to overtime but Philadelphia has been really pushing in this third period yeah I don’t like that I don’t like that theory I don’t like that thinking I’m I’m pretty selfish when it comes to those those points I think most hockey most hockey I I won’t call myself a player I do play the game but not very well but yeah you know people associated with the game of hockey let’s just reference it there face off to morazi’s right cier against Dickinson on at the right point but then the puck tumbles off of ristan and I believe into the hawk bench this should come out of the Zone but they’re keeping the face off inside the hawk Zone circle to the left you felt like Philadelphia was going to push and the Hawks have made it a habit over the last few games where they have been sitting back and trying to protect their leads in the third period but man John it feels like that’s that’s where you get yourself in trouble when you play the prevent defense cuz it doesn’t feel like it ever works and so you would have liked to see the Blackhawks be the aggressors in that third period try to get that third goal and make it a 3 nothing game rather than protecting the two goal lead because when Philly got that first one this building came alive certainly did what do they call the prevent defense in football what do they say about it it prevents you from winning yep doesn’t take a genius to figure that out right by the way uh today’s overtime
