this thing out with a game-winning field goal by Spencer shider Chiefs win I’m here with BJ Kissle Tucker Franklin the Casey is and postgame show BJ how’s it feel to be back on the postgame show what was the last time you did this it’s been a minute it’s been a minute and we picked uh the perfectly most non- memorable game to talk through this is this is a perfect uh warmup uh to getting back involved in some of the postgame show but it’s fun I I don’t know if Matty’s going to remember this one either he’s out at the he’s out at the uh he’s out at the uh at the stadium uh in Carolina experiencing this game so I’m sure he’s having a great time yeah good for him having a great time uh if you’ve been following him around on uh on social media you know he’s having he’s having a lot of fun Tucker Franklin also here hi tuck this is kind of like a throwback uh right this is like this is like old days uh maybe back at the bull pin maybe that’s a deep cut for some people who been been around here for a minute us three going after it after some post games and look there were some games in the bullpen days of where the Chiefs pulling games out against Bad teams uh it is a tradition unlike any other I think everyone going into this game like everyone I talked to everyone on kcsn was like yeah the Chiefs are really good they should be better than this team not not a whole lot of worries that’s why they’re GNA win by three points and like that’s I think something that we’ve come to accustomed to with this team they’re gonna do whatever they can to get it done and they did that today Ken uh yeah they took care of business and I don’t know even after the even after the Panthers scor didn’t I didn’t really have like a high blood pressure moment I just didn’t think that they were going to lose this football game they gave him a lot of time honestly the Chiefs offense looked really good for most of this game like they they had a you know they put 27 points up before punting or turning the ball over or anything um and then and then they had a couple possessions fizzle out as they were up eight uh up 11 you know couple possessions there the offense looked really good I think for a large stretch of this game and then when they needed to be great again they went ahead and took care of business pretty comfortably and gave Spencer shider a low stress game-winning field goal uh I think it was inside 30 when it was all said and done inside 30 yards to win the football game when it was all said and done so um you know I think good things on offense for sure and I think that’s probably where we should start uh because we’re going to start positive here everyone else is frustrated but we’re going to just start with the we’re g to start with the with the good stuff because it’s at least worth celebrating some of the good things that happen in this game and I I mean I know that you would like to see the Red Zone performance be a little bit better but I think the Chiefs scored on five straight possessions to start the game um if that’s correctly and like and and Patrick Mahomes honestly I thought he he looked as good as he has all season Beach yeah I think that’s the takeaway uh at least for me in this game is that early on when Patrick momes had time back in the pocket in shades of you know when he had Eric fiser and M Schwarz has his two tackles and he was comfortable back there he was delivering the football he’s all over the place but it seems not to to get on the negative side of things uh try to do my best mdty impression but uh you you get to the the tackles and we didn’t learn anything new about this team when they struggled offensively it was key mistakes inside the Red Zone and it was the tackle struggling but yeah I think this is not going to be a memorable game unless you’re a Noah gry fan or you had him on fantasy for whatever reason but uh this was a a step in the right direction while also not completely uh moving away from the fact that we know when this offense struggles we know where it’s going to start and it’s going to be the two guys on the edge and that’s what we saw again today you’re seeing some of the throwing with his chest and like as as a turn to take for MD like he was throwing dark that last touchdown that he had to DeAndre Hopkins off a one foot was a a missile right to him and to see him have that confidence throwing across the middle of the field having confidence hitting guys in stride and even there’s some flashes of old Travis Kelce getting the ball and you know running after the catch so I think we haven’t seen him done a whole lot this year that was exciting to see that offense was exciting to see Panther’s defense got did get after him a little bit in that in that uh last little bit there Patrick Mahomes after the game as I was going to mute my TV as we were starting uh the postgame show he was talking about yeah we just got to we just got SQ better in the second half and I think that’s really what it comes down to a little bit of execution there yeah goe Kim oh sorry you cut out for a second so I just didn’t know if I needed to jump in there for a minute but I think I think yeah executions got to be better you know towards the end and like maybe they got a little bit comfortable you know maybe they weren’t in their bag as much they were you know trying to manage this game to close this thing out like hey look you try to show as little as you possibly can to try to win these football games and the chiefs were in a very advantageous comfortable position at that point in the game right like they they put themselves in a good spot they were up 11 you know very Andy Reid to try to manage the the rest of that game and it things got a little bit interesting you know and Andy I think wanted to trust his defense and we will talk about that for sure here in a little bit um but like when this team needed it and when this team when this game was pretty close and and all that kind of stuff the offense I thought did some really really good things like I just a ton of success I think just outside of you know a couple possessions really there like he Patrick Mahomes 27 to 37 26 y9 yards three touchdowns um the ground game was was was excellent today um I think what we had nine different guys catch a pass in this game the the ball is being moved all over the place uh I think there was you know if if you’re looking for like hey look when this team needed it they they were good offensively this was a step forward I think even though there was some struggles in pass protection for this team I really do think this was a step forward yeah I would agree I I see the comments coming in and there’s just a lot a lot of everything has to be perfect or the worst thing that we’ve ever seen and it’s going to be it’s always going to be the reason that uh the team is held back I mean this goes back to last year or two years ago with the punt return that was we couldn’t find anybody who’s going to catch a punt return there was fumble all time that was the reason that we were going to be held back we didn’t learn anything new the defense is going to struggle when it’s a big moment they’re going to throw at Nazi Johnson and he’s going to be generally in the area but he’s not going to make a play we haven’t seen him do it yet and we want to we want to believe that’s going to happen but that’s the margin of error of beating the Chiefs is you got to attack and and we’ve seen it happen a few different times the same thing with the tackles our offense looks pretty good when the tackles are decent but pretty good is Kareem hunt getting a 10 yard run when Isaiah P would get 25 and we’ve talked about that and can’t you’ve made points about that you’re just missing the explosive part of the game we saw it a couple of different times even on the chunk plays that Kareem hunt got the one of them in the first half that with the defender made the tackle in open space it’s a touchdown if it’s anybody else that can break it tackle right there so yes it’s a positive but at the same time it’s there are things that are making this offense have to work a little bit harder than we want them to and they don’t have the margin of error to continue going down because somebody’s going to get a penalty the tackles are going to get either completely beat off the line or they’re going to grab and hold when there’s any kind of an issue I want to bring this comment up from uh Jed steel here uh real analysis please you guys should not be happy I don’t know if Aron is happy I I just think here’s the thing Jared that there’s not a lot here that we learned from this game so if if you really want to dissect this game yeah the tackles didn’t play well well we already knew the tackles were kind of having some struggles and they brought in DJ humph and you know the defense didn’t play very well with with Nazi Johnson and Jamari Connor sometimes yeah we kind of already knew that though right like we know we know that what the problems are for this team and look it feels like we’re harping on that right we keep saying the same thing over and over when we talk about this team uh but it’s just one of those things where yeah I mean overall they didn’t turn the ball over that’s a positive it’s a good thing uh I don’t think that we’re necessarily happy with how this game Ed the Chiefs won and they showed again how they know how to win football games when it matters and I think that’s something you could take away from this game but I don’t think I I just think that we know what this team is at this point well let’s be very clear here we’re not going to spend the whole whole show being overly positive and op you know optimistic about everything there are a ton of things that are worth addressing this game but it doesn’t feel appropriate to just hammer on those the second this team you know this team got out of Carolina with a win they’re 10- one they’re still the first seat in the AFC and there were some good things to take away from this game the rest of the show or pretty close to the rest of the show will have a lot of conversations about some of the things that need to be addressed and BJ or Tucker you just brought some of them up and honestly like I think if I’m going to be honest like that’s about where the positives end right this team scored on the first five possessions they did some good things they had a couple possessions kind of killed them and then yeah they had to you know they had to go into their bag and take care of business to close this thing out if we want to go ahead and move on we’ve gone 10 minutes without being overly uh critical of all the things that are potentially things that could keep them from winning the Super Bowl and we could just jump into those right now honestly uh because I think if go no I was just gonna say the other part of this is we know what the Chiefs have to be to to get to where they want to go which is what we saw last week we saw the margin of air of them not playing well against the other best team in the AFC and they lost so like yeah they need to get better to be able to go win that game but they’ve played every other quality team in the AFC with these issues with these other teams having their own issues that there’s there we talked about before there’s no boogie man out there for this team so we could sit here and say these are the reasons they’re going to get blown out by such and such or they can’t win without such and such we saw that last week we saw it earlier in the season uh when they played Baltimore um they’re going to have to prove it again against Pittsburgh uh towards the end of the season and Houston other good teams in the AFC so uh the challenges are out there but to your point win the game move on get another week for DeAndre Hopkins to get used to this offense to know where to be and where to line up because I don’t know how much you guys talked about it I saw it in Buffalo last week there are times that he still didn’t know where to line up he didn’t know what routes to run and they can make a backyard football play out of it but those are the things that these games are going to help going forward as they see different looks they get more experience out there with those guys and they get one week closer to Isaiah Pacho coming back Charles and Min who getting back in the mix uh all those things are going to get this team playing their best football towards the end of the season so that’s where I’m coming from and not being overly optimistic about everything it’s just this is one chapter in this very long book and this chapter I was never worried about this game for as bad as they were playing annoying it was I was never even slightly worried that they were not going to win this football game this is how they this this feels like how they play against all these bad teams all the time like this is how it feels like they take care like this is how they do it Mike Kelly and0 went on cruise control mid uh Midway into the second half uh I do think there’s some truth to that but honestly I think it was like all right we’re up 11 we’re not going to you know show too much anymore we’re going to try to just get out of Dodge with this game and we trust our defense to be able to take care of business and they didn’t you know like I think that’s ultimately like one of the things like we can get back into the past Pro in a little bit because like I think DJ Humphries needs to get ready as quickly as he possibly can uh because they badly need him uh Wan Mo has had a horrendous day and uh they need DJ humph to be a guy that can uh kind of replace uh W because that was not particularly good and we can get back to that in a little bit um but hey look I think Andy Reid over the last two years has trusted his defense like that’s been one of the things part justifiably so by the way yeah and justifiably so last year and justifiably so before Jaylen Watson’s injury right um they were they were pretty good um they’ve been awful since Jaylen Watson has since Jaylen Watson was injured and there’s a very simple formula and every team is following it now St pagnol’s Blitz packages are tremendous however um when you’re playing a lot of man coverage what teams have figured out is that you can throw an out route from the slot anytime you want it against the Blitz and it’s we’re going to throw or or you we can throw outside against Nazi Johnson and anytime we want to uh at any given point there are those are the two things that are happening right now that teams are just going to continue to spam they’re just going to continue to hit the spam button on that they’re just gonna just over and over and over again and the Chiefs are not going to have any answers because all so here’s what happens when you’re in man coverage right and you’re running a vertical with your outside receiver the back of your cornerback is turned okay so you’re not you’re not getting any help there um the safety is playing with uh you know with inside leverage and this the the safeties for the Chiefs just have not been able to cover uh Justin Reed has not been able to cover we kind of I mean at a high level you know he makes it competitive but like nothing that is you know he’s not gonna break up that dig on Third and long right or or they out route and so the Chiefs are getting beat on out routes at the sticks anytime a team wants them to that’s been the answer to the last two weeks so the bills did it to him last week the teams have been starting to do that a little bit more with them I think the week before and that’s what’s happening again the Panthers game plan was we’re going to throw these out routes on third down and against this blitz it’s gonna it’s it’s gonna work and I mean I’m not going to say Bryce young was blind trust throwing these things but like a couple of these like he’s getting pressure in his face and he just knows where he needs to throw the ball he knows the route he got and he I mean credit and make some great plays but that was I mean it’s just it’s happening at a remarkable consistency now on the big third down that Charles Davis said that it was hyper saying he was the best throw of Bryce Young’s career I’m not sure it is hyperbole like that was a phenomenal throw with two dudes in his face and man coverage and he had very little wiggle room for air on that throw so sometimes you just give the other team credit um and that’s why it was some of the plays with Nazi Johnson that I was the first one in the buffalo in the group text saying what is going on with 13 they’re always going after him but a couple of those plays he’s right there and they’re phenomenal throws at the 5050 ball and you want to see him make a play but while we’re talking about 13 Trent McDuffy is still one of the best cornerback but he’s given up some plays that he’s right there for as well he’s made some but it seems like he’s given up a few more plays than we’ve come to expect uh from him you know over the last couple years well that’s part part of the problem with that is is for him you know he he’s a great cornerback with with some you know length issues and so like it shows up a lot when he’s trying to play against bigger cornerbacks he doesn’t have the arm length to contest at the point of you know at the point of catch and that shows up a lot and so he’s having to play more outside corner he’s basically resigned to the outside cornerback position which means he’s going to be in those situations more than he might where he’s moving around a little bit more in the slot but the Chiefs don’t have the luxury to move him around like they did last year they can’t do that this year uh and they’re because they don’t have outside cornerback depth to be able to do it he’s cornerback one on the outside he’s cornerback one in the slot but they can’t use them there because they don’t have the outside cornerback death because Joshua Williams has somehow fallen from Grace from this organization and can’t see the field on defense uh this team is resigned to giving Nazi Johnson every opportunity to um be the cornerback too on this team uh at this point in the season and I mean things get things unravel a little bit like the Josh the you know things have unravel a little bit here with the secondary like that’s the truth like Trent can’t be flexible at all um and now you’ve got you know Jaylen Watson’s injury like they just they’ve lost flexibility in their in their secondary to be able to do what they want to do who would have thought the Jaylen Watson injury would be the one that we couldn’t make up I know you guys talked about it last week I know Tucker you and I talked about it offline I’m gonna comment on one of the crew Ruben De Cruz here with the comment um say BJ was that a a pass interference on the Xavier worthy play those are not the ones that I’m going to complain those 50-50 balls because you could make a case that just about every ball that’s in the air you could call legal contact on that’s the that’s the penalty for me where it’s not necessarily the pass interference it’s the legal legal contact Beyond five yards um that’s not the one if Chiefs fans you want to find a play to complain about the third and goal play or the goal to go play with the right tackle jumped uh about a half a step early uh that gave him uh late in the game with like two or three minutes left to go that was the one um but no I’m not the 50-50 ball is outside unless it’s completely egregious uh I’d rather let those guys play a little bit with a little bit of contact so I want McDuffy to not have that call so I’m not going to get upset that the 160 pound guy couldn’t fight his hands often well I have sorry I have an interesting note about just the Chiefs and Panthers matchup history because I was like man it really feels like every time these two teams play it’s a damn close game obviously this is a three-point game 30 to 27 last time they met we obviously 2020 that was a three-point game as well 31 that’s a two-point game 31 to 33 in of the Chiefs back in 2016 the last time the chiefs were in Carolina they won 20 to 17 a three-point game and in 2012 when the Panthers were in Kansas City they won 27 to 21 so these games against these teams are always close and I even think at the beginning of the year when we saw this on the schedule we were like yeah Panthers aren’t good but it’s going to be a three-point game I I don’t know if it is just like it’s probably it’s just us as Chiefs fans being pessimistic about it but like every time these teams play it’s a close game and they don’t see each other very often right once every four years and that’s the first time they’ve been in Carolina in eight years so it’s it’s very funny because I was like man it just feels like every time these two teams play it’s close and it was once again today they don’t blow teams out very often like that’s just and this just like this is how the Chiefs do and I will point you back to uh the time the Chiefs and the Houston Texans played in 2022 the 1 and2 Houston Texans against the 10 and3 at the time Kansas City Chiefs and the Chiefs needed overtime yep they needed overtime to beat the Houston Texans in 2022 like jerck McKinnon game I think it was the Jerick McKinnon game if I yeah but it’s just like this happens to this team and it’s frustrating to watch I do think the Chiefs I really do believe the Chiefs let off the gas a little bit um when they got up 2016 and Andy said we’ll manage this thing and we’ll close this thing out we’ll take care of business we’ll move on defense will do what it needs to do and it just didn’t like and that’s that that’s the key and I don’t know you know we’ll see what happens I I think if you’re pointing to you know if you’re pointing to the playoffs and you’re pointing to January and you’re saying okay Andy Reid wants to trust his defense and he has put an immense amount of trust in his defense I don’t know how much def how much he can trust his defense in uh in the playoffs the same way he used to and the offense is potentially going to have to put up 30 points a game in order to in order to take care of business and win some of these games when they matter in January but they’re going to put it on their offense because you’re going to be going up against Baltimore you’re going to go going up against Buffalo and you get in those game situations where he could just punt it away or and go conservative he’s not going to do that and he has shown in the past that he’ll get conservative or he’ll get aggressive on fourth down plays and some of the things offensively where he knows you’re going to have to put up more points he’s not going to do that against Carolina and again I don’t know if they feel the same way we do in watching it that might not been as pretty and not to go in circles but might not have been as pretty as we all wanted it to be but did that game ever really feel out of grasp for the Chiefs even late when they got the two-point conversion they kept showing Kelsey and Mahomes on the side line it’s like they’re gonna get at least a field goal my only thing is I actually looked at my son because he goes are we gonna lose I go no the kicker’s gonna earn a Super Bowl ring though he’s G to kick a 35 yard game winner against Carolina and there’s there’s uh his earning of his Super Bowl ring but yeah there’s flaws with the team they have to get better you want to see steps in the right direction they don’t have to play their best football before Thanksgiving it needs to build up towards something as we get uh this team to a point where we feel more comfortable if you have to go to Buffalo for whatever reason in winning that game because that’s the litmus this happens every single year yeah um and like I don’t want to I’m not trying to sugarcoat I think people think I’m trying to sugar coat I’m just trying to I don’t know I think it’s the same it’s the same things that have been har that this team has had issues with we didn’t learn anything we didn’t see this team take a step in terms of the things that are you know that have brought us worry like it’s the same things that this team had issues with last time last game that they played some of these recent close calls it’s the same stuff it’s cornerback and it’s pass Pro uh and we haven’t talked about this yet lack of pass rush um and look good interior offensive line I think the tackles could have got got but they didn’t get got today really all that much um the pass rush was not able to get home and then the Chiefs had to try to keep Bryce Young up with the Blitz and they just picked on 13 and 27 all day um so same problems it’s the same problems that that plagued this team you didn’t see them really get all that better or make any big steps on the defensive side of the ball that’s the biggest worry for me right now I actually think the offense will be fine and will round into shape and you know all that kind of stuff I do I do have some optimism on the offens side of the ball but the defensive side of the ball continues to to to look worse and worse and worse as the season goes on and like that’s the big concern for me it wasn’t just 13 and 27 pass rush not there at all not there at all Beach and it’s not going to get any better with the shortened weeks and the games they have coming up what I think is happening is they’re in the dog days of the season they had their buy earlier in the week they’re going to have to trudge through this they’ve got all kinds of shortened games they’re going to be playing on Friday this week on a short week they’ve got coming up they’ve got all kinds of strange schedule playing on Friday a Saturday um it’s going to be a challenge for him because you have older guys on the defensive side of the football it’s not making excuses for him but the the play I think about is the one in the end zone um the one that they chubba hubard scored on where TR Chris Jones had a chance to make that play do I think Chris Jones that’s a playoff game and that’s to win a playoff game does he make that tackle with a little extra juice than he does on the road against Carolina with Patrick momes standing on the sideline yeah I do if that’s the optimistic if that’s where I differ with some of the fans in the chat and I feel like we need to have a therapy session the chat room right now is just melting down and uh have a side conversation about that because I I think what’s happening and I think is where cheese fans get mixed up that’s I believe some fans kind of complaining a lot is just their way of Fanning like they watched the game they’re like why were we not perfect here are all the things that this team didn’t do perfectly in this game to get better while at the same time stepping back and being able to realize like hey I I tweeted out today I remember sitting in the bar in San Diego when we were playing the Steelers celebrating in week 12 that the Chiefs had a lead in a game for the first time all season when Justin Houston and Tom Bal are doing the Kid and Play Dance after a sack that didn’t even count like I remember how embarrassing that was a cheese fan and I think cheese fans that are in the chat room have no idea what I’m talking about that would make sense why you’re complaining about beating Carolina and being upset 10 and one but I think some people just fan that way and I’ve described to you guys public like that’s how Maddie is like Matty’s gonna explain every analytical thing about every play and what needed to execute to make it better because that’s how he looks at the game I’m just in this you know it’s a long Rich Eisen said it the Chiefs are in the lab all regular season yeah playing their perfect football at the end and we didn’t learn anything new and it’s it’s so true and it’s so true be because like and and I think part of it and like I’m I’m okay with anyone having these takes too by the way to a degree like all respect if you are because here’s unless you’re saying fire people that’s where I cross the line other than that like you want to fan that way cool but it’s all the fine these guys don’t care all that stuff is where then I start to just draw a line it’s sry I I think for us on the outside looking in it’s hard for us to even see big picture because first off the Chiefs the team’s not going to be very upfront with their big picture on like what what the you know they’re not going to be very clear on what they’re trying to accomplish through this process in the regular season and like yes I do think they’re working to try to get some things up and get some things figured out and shorted up for the Post season and one of those things I’ll use this as an example Nate Taylor made the comment like they’re the Chiefs are trying to baptize Nazi Johnson by fire um and they are throwing him to the wolves and they playing they got the fire they have found it um and so they’re they’re they’re trying they’re trying to uh you know they’re they’re trying to give him looks and try to you know throw him into the fire and give him a chance to I don’t know if sink or swim is the right word but they’re they’re they’re let him him work through some stuff here man and he’s going through it like it is it’s bad man it’s been really bad to watch so far um and very rough I I saw this stat from Charles Goldman nasy Johnson’s led the team in tackles for the third consecutive week that’s not a good thing um by the way that’s not a good thing um but they I mean they’re they’re in the process right they’re trying to get through things they’re trying to figure some things out against Carolina’s probably a good place to do some of that stuff typically and Andy you know hey look they they they were up 2716 and I didn’t close that thing out didn’t take care of business the way they wanted to and things had to get a Little Closer Than They than they needed to um but it’s hard for us to look at some of that perspective week in week out when you know this team I think this team I’ll be honest with you this team knows better than anybody probably that their corner back situation is not great right now they know that they know their quarterbacks aren’t playing well enough they will own that they will admit that um they know about these players they’re harder on these players internally as they’re grading them and looking through and trying to improve upon this football team more than us they’re just not public facing with it right so they’re trying to give nazy Johnson a chance there’s a reason they like him there’s a reason that they don’t like Joshua Williams right now I don’t know what uh and we’re probably never going to know what but for for some reason they’re not even giving him the time of day which is extremely frustrating because we’ve seen him play good football um but they’re letting Nazi Johnson figure it out before they throw Joshua Williams back in and that’s surprising Howard I don’t want zav I don’t want zaven Howard I’m sorry I I don’t want him okay you can have nazy Johnson then yeah yeah I I I saw stat as I I’m I’m scrolling I’m I’m keeping an eye on Twitter as like press conference start as they haven’t started yet with which I kind of think is odd um I did see this stat come through um Andy Reid has had 10 straight 10 win seasons in Kansas City wow that is incredible to just sit back and think about 10 straight 10- win Seasons um as you talked about being in the bar in San Diego BJ I’m sure you would have killed for that uh back in in San Diego in those days when I was yeah in high school I you I hear those stats and the first thing I always think of is Clark hunt hopping on his plan and going to Philly and not letting Andy Reid go interview anywhere else like talk about that was the moment like oh he hired him like yeah the process of hiring him that’s what it took like he got on his plane and met him at the airport before he flew to San Diego in Arizona to interview for those jobs changed everything yeah it really did and she used to reaped the rewards and madd’s all of us let’s be honest all of us have rewards across Chiefs Kingdom being able to brag to people have moments with family and friends guys uh MADD Lane has jumped into the chat to provide this this analysis defensively I [Laughter] [Music] I uh he followed up he followed up easy it looked easy for Carolina let’s not just hang out to try there no it’s just funny because you know of the circumstances yes I understand Matty’s probably a whole vibe right now um he’s probably he’s right though it yeah um it did look easy for Carolina a lot of times the pass Pro was outstanding for Bryce young Bryce young was doing a good job getting the ball uh to whoever 13 and 27 were carding I I do want to see their target like how many times they were targeted Justin re didn’t have a great day in coverage like I think the Chiefs just the safeties are being exposed a lot more the the slot players are being exposed more and more as the season goes on they’re just absolutely picking on them um and yeah it was easy I mean I’m trying to think just Diggs outs you know that vertical to Legette was a dime I don’t know how get come down with it um yeah M ver and I had this conversation about the defense because it’s really interesting when you look at the numbers and like they don’t sack they don’t get very many sacks um but they get a lot of pressure and the pressure rate is high because you know spags ass and all that all that kind of blitzing this is the second week in a row where they haven’t really been able to get home on sending however many people it is right and can’t you talked about at the top of the show just like how offenses are kind of uh seeing the blitzes and seeing the pressures that they’re bringing how they’re reacting to it to get the ball out of the quarterback’s hands quickly but I think that’s what’s so frustrating to see is that there is the I I think the Chiefs have one sack today that what they ended with was one sack um which is frustrating when you’re paying a guy a lot of money on the interior and you’re trying to figure stuff out on you know with with a draft pick a first round pick it’s a that’s a defensive end so I mean there’s there’s a lot of things that go there in the pass rush and just seeing how spxs is trying to get pressure and he is getting pressure but they’re just not able to get home and that is frustrating to see the pressure but not being able to get home and that that not translating is I think some sometimes really frustrating for people watching the games you’re like man they got guys back there but they just can’t bring them down I’m concerned a little bit not that spags has been figured out because that’s not the right way but the spags is going to have to make an adjustment here because every team is now exposing the same thing over and over and they’re hitting the same thing over and over and the Chiefs have not revealed their answer yet to that and it’s not that it’s just they know where to attack and they’re doing it every time and so when they see this pressure it’s just one two three back foot ready to throw an out route and they’re going to throw that thing with the anticipation they’re going to throw it out and see what happens and like credit to Josh Allen and Bryce young for making these throws but like I’m concerned because this is the best of every seen Bryce Young play he play great he really did it look it’s like who who is this guy and what did they do with Bryce young type of deal it’s very crazy what was it and so like I think some of it was like that they the Panthers did the same thing the bills did and did the same thing uh I think the Broncos did is they they just they picked on hey we’re gonna see pressure we’re gonna throw out routes and it’s just like that’s concerning if if what’s the adjustment when do they show that adjustment do they just try to work through this thing and and give it up consistently for the rest of this you know what is it like how you know we’ll see yeah and we’re going to learn and and we make everything about everything but we’re going to learn about this team they still have the Chargers and the last three games of their season are against teams that are in the AFC playoff race with the Houston Texans the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Denver Broncos and last two of those are on the road and so what we need to learn about this team before they get to the playoffs we will learn we will learn what their answer for um nazy Johnson and Kent the things that you’re talking about I think it send more pressure um I think it send more guys because even if Chris Jones gets a pressure and he escapes the pocket those guys can’t plaster for long enough he’s just going to look wherever 13 is at like it’s a very easy tendency for them to figure out where we’re going to go when the pocket breaks down so um I don’t think we’re going to necessarily see the answers on the road in a week 13 game against Carolina but we have Prime Time key matchups that will determine whether or not the Chiefs have any kind of home field advantage because this one and the one against the Raiders the do they have to win the rest of them are difficult matchups that the Chiefs have their schedule is not any easier and Buffalo’s if you want to look at it and start comparing those things Buffalo schedule’s a lot easier Buffalo I want to respond one thing to missou 19 the comment because mentioned said you could be happy with the win and the season so far and voice concerns about their potential weakness and inefficiencies those things aren’t mutually exclusive some would say you’re gatekeeping BJ I don’t know if I didn’t articulate that correctly you literally just describe Matty Lane he’s one of the top analysts on our Network that he’s going to talk about all the things that he sees that are wrong with the team what’s going on in any individual game and that’s completely fine because he knows at the end of the day still talking about a 10in one football team back-to-back Super Bowl champ where I don’t have the gatekeeping I don’t have the patience is when all of a sudden people need to get fired Andy Reid doesn’t have it anymore that very small faction of fans I don’t listen to everybody else wants to talk about the games and all the things in with them awesome just want to be clear sorry I will say this is also the hardest game to do any conversations about because this is a bad football team that the Chiefs just played um and you know you would hope that they would blow teams out the way that other teams have and they just flat out didn’t do that today uh and were the Panthers up because it was the defending champs possibly uh that’s that’s something that happens Jeff Allen uh former Chief actually played the game with the Chiefs I keep seeing the media and some of our own fans criticizing the way we’re winning the reality is we’re backtack Champs in a current Dynasty we’re getting everyone’s best shot it’s like the Super Bowl for other teams these games are Banner moments for them but no need to worry this is what playoff football looks like close wins Championship pedigree it’s a hard line to draw man it’s a hard line to draw being outside looking in right because I’m I’m not happy I don’t walk away from this game happy at all I’m not thrilled I’m not like going all right this is fixed this is fixed right um but I also don’t know how much of a big picture thing it matter you know how much it matters in the big picture because I do think yeah like the Chiefs are probably not unloading any bullets whatsoever against the Carolina Panthers and so like how do you na six games left they got six games left the playoffs don’t start next week so they got six games to figure it out and those six games are against better teams than this so all the questions that we have we’re going to figure out answers to I don’t think there any major injuries uh well had had cramps C cramps that all the press conference did finally start I don’t know what happened but it did finally start um quotes are coming rolling in here to uh I believe Charles Goldman Yeah Carl jman uh said on and on Spencer shraer uh we had confidence we have confidence in him he’s got a big leg and he was he was rifling those extra points in there they were getting up and out there quick I did notice that about Spencer shers like there he also said about the guys making starting fast huge emphasis this week we’ve got to keep it building on it uh we can’t take plays away from ourselves that’s very true I mean that was a big emphasis obviously after they threw an interception on the second play of the game last week uh starting fast was going to be big there and also on Patrick Mahomes is also Andy Reid he said he has a great feel for the game in terms of running the football he knows by coverage where guys are and what they’re trying to accomplish with the coverage does a nice job there yeah it’s uh that’s true it’s uh he also says Andy Reed says we’ve got to keep building on uh on this on the fast start we can’t take plays away from ourselves that’s another thing is like hey look start fast having a good start to these games like the Chiefs did have a pretty good start to this game right they put up like what I we say scored the five first five positions um that’s a that’s good and yeah they you know they had some rough stretches there but they took care of business uh they took care of business in that final drive when it mattered most and like I I I genuinely didn’t walk away super concerned after after uh after the the Panthers scored the touch I was more frustrated the defense gave up another touchdown and a two-point conversion but I felt like hey man they gave Patrick moles too much time the Panthers aren’t the team that’s gonna get Patrick Mahomes in one of these situations so he comes out and take care takes care of business I did see we can’t you brought this up just kind of hard to take away from a from a Panthers team that is also not very good and also a pretty old team too so they’re kind of in a tough spot where they are a fairly old roster and they are also not very good um I saw some people talking about how this was kind of going into this game before the game started kind of a lose lose for the Chiefs right you beat the Panthers like yeah you’re supposed to beat the Panthers you’re supposed to beat them out but then if you beat him close it’s just like well you should have beat him by more and I think that outside when you talk about the the outside National media like that’s going to be the perception probably every week that the Chiefs play if people don’t know about this about the Chiefs by now but I thought that was interesting when you talk about just this game coming into it there was already expectations there was already negative expectations set about this game no matter what the ex no matter what the result was going to be it just seemed like it was always going to be negative yeah yeah the good news is there was there wasn’t a huge pendal against the Chiefs late in the game that it’s going to be controversial that everybody’s going to be talking about 19 Flags thrown in this game 10 against the Chiefs nine against the the Panthers I believe 91 penalty yards on the Chiefs as well so ref’s out there trying just helping the Chiefs you know just 10 Flags 91 yards got to help the Chiefs out Chiefs get all the calls man they do they just get all calls Kent what was your biggest takeaway what do you think you’re going to remember about this game even like three weeks from now good bad what do you feel like was kind of you’re writing the chapter or telling the story of this season and you get a couple of sentences or one sentence for this game what do you think it’s going to be the most important player in the organization took last week and found a way to have his best performance of the Season or one of his best best performances of the Season like he took care of business he was on point he did a great job he had a great response to I mean I don’t think he was bad last week necessarily but he he’s you know he came out of the loss playing his best you know his best football so I think that’s probably the big takeaway for me is like I think he had a really really good game this week so you know and like flashed really good they put 30 points on the board and like you’re disappointed a little bit with 30 points on the board because you felt like they could have put a lot more on the board and it felt like there was a stretch right so um I think that’s it I think it’s just that the chief you know that the best player in the world looked like the best player in the world today so that was a good response from him yeah I I think I think for me it’s going to be uh how the offense looked when things were clean in the pocket right like the the offense looked looked good and they had things go uh no gray like I was really impressed with Noah gry this might that might actually be what I take away the most from this is It’s the Noah gray game not necessarily no great Breakout game but look the dude had four career touchdowns going into I think last week and he had four career he now he has four touchdowns in the uh last two games like he’s playing very well right now his yards after the catch ability has been something that I’ve been impressed with now I know his first one uh his first one didn’t have anybody around him so that’s pretty easy yards after the catch but I I do think that it’s going to be um one of those games where we see like okay this is where Noah gay is really going to get in involved in the offense and he already has been but like just really to assert himself in this offense yeah I’m going to agree with Kent that it it wasn’t just the stats the numbers it the off it the offense looked comfortable and Patrick Mahomes looked comfortable in the pocket at times as well as he has all season long and the numbers back it up but especially early in this game when Patrick Mahomes had time he could sit back and dissect and pick apart that defense which is I think what all of us really wanted knowing tackles have to get better they’re going to do things to help um they need guys that can win on the outside a lot quicker if you’re going to Chip and help because you have less guys into your pass routes um but again big takeaway for me in this game is it was one of the most comfortable games I W I felt watching the offense because Patrick Mahomes looked comfortable delivering the football around uh until he didn’t but the good news is when they’re bad they’re bad very quickly talking about the tackles yeah they struggle it’s quick it’s it’s uh it’s it’s decisive um and hey look help might be on the way help might be on the way um very quickly here for uh for the Chiefs when it comes to the tackle position DJ Humphrey’s signed over the weekend uh and I you know what I don’t think W Morris did anything today that says he should be the you know he should be the guy right like I don’t I’m not in you know they just need W Morris to play capably because you never know what happens with DJ humph you don’t even know if DJ humph is going going to be an upgrade you have to think and hope that the Chiefs think he is and and that he’s able to be I mean they spent some money to sign him um and make sure that he’s here in Kansas City for the home stretch the best option available I think I mean DJ Humphries is a better football player and has better tape than what Donovan Smith has put on tape in the last couple years so yeah um you know you’re hoping that uh oh you’re hoping that uh upgrade a tackle I can’t say k he was not with the team he’s not officially signed with the team yet either that has not been announced on the transaction report wasn’t with the team today that’s expected to be done tomorrow uh in terms of all officially going through and everything like that but was not with the team and did not travel with the team as well because he’s not officially on the team so he can’t necessarily be there uh but okay yeah I think I think it’s time for us to throw the toast game what say you yeah just let me get my ducks in a row here let me make sure I get my ducks are in a in a right row and then I will throw to toast [Music] game feels uh feels weird to be doing a a toast game uh because we we’ve been a couple weeks removed right uh never been done in NFL history I think he would have taken it he earned it tonight shout out to Spencer ster love it cheers oh Tuck’s going straight from the bottle today yeah I lost my cup I don’t know where it went all right well well uh why don’t you tell us where are you washing it down with he’s got a bullet to wash it down I love it uh what’s yours tuck well look anytime there’s a game like this against an NFC team that you don’t see very often we always think about just getting in and out of there right take care of business get in there take care of business get out of there no injuries so I Gotta Give it to a toast to uh good health had cramps but who doesn’t cramp you know who doesn’t cramp to good health stand healthy down the stretch I don’t know if the bourbon’s going to help the cramps bigger Swig than I thought it was going to be anytime you’re out with a calf injury though it’s scary because that can from an Achilles to a cramp uh we haven’t got too like specific into the you know the details of this game all that much but uh the my toast game’s going to go to Noah gray for his two touchdown performance uh yet again here uh Noah four catches 66 yards two touchdowns leads the Chiefs in receiving yards puts two big ones on the board uh so we will go with Noah Noah gray for the toast game celebration there’s Noah oh yeah that’s a good stuff Chiefs take care business 30 27 they’re 10- one they’re playing the Las Vegas Raiders on a Friday BJ final thoughts uh yeah I just want to uh I’m going to back to that but yeah I this is the time of the year where the the guy the people behind the scenes the the guys and girls the the support staff the strength conditioning staff the nutritionist all that the Chiefs have some funky schedules coming up and they’re going to be playing on short rest and short short weeks and that takes a lot of people behind the scenes getting these guys bodies right so one of the things that that I miss about the old job was understanding how it took the entire organization to win football games to get these guys right to play uh don’t gloss over the fact that uh that is an extremely difficult thing to do to get these guys ready in situations like that but luckily we have the right people in place to to play games on Fridays and Saturdays and all that kind of stuff so I do have one more take at the end but I’ll let you guys get to this because it’s not football related Tucker I will be in a tenance to that football game actually for Black Friday um so I’m very excited to see the Chiefs take on the Raiders uh just want to see him take care of bus last time that the Raiders were at Arro head it did not necessarily end the best way uh for the Kansas City Chiefs but again another game where I just want to see them take care of business looking ahead again Friday game short week it’s going to be interesting as the Chiefs play every day except Tuesday this year and BJ I think you made a really good good point about just getting the guys ready uh for these short weeks too they didn’t activate Charles minu for this game they didn’t activate Isaiah PCO for this game didn’t make sense to activate him for this one then have him rebound off of a short rest game uh would like see those guys back in Action as well see how those injuries progress there uh for me it’s this comment from Derek Hernandez wait Maddie’s been Chief in Carolina this whole time yes he has and Matty had a had a nice uh week off from doing the show getting to go see the Chiefs take care of business against the Carolina Panthers game then they onside kicked it the Cowboys got the onside kick and ran it back for a touchdown I was Furious also the Chicago Bears came back somehow after getting an onside kick yes went to overtime got the ball to start overtime and then lost the game Lost lot has happened Beach you miss some wild I try to look it from a coach’s point of view like when would you ever actually turn an onside kick cuz wouldn’t they just want you to go down because you’d risk fumbling it in a situation where yeah know go down and you win a football game he intin take over man he’s athletes man what was the line I have so many questions oh the P the commanders were 10 and a half Point favorites okay or so it didn’t matter anyway did it hit the over because of that play it was like 30 something to 20 what was the defender thinking that’s what I need to know I think he was thinking oh got the ball better uh pounce on it better run I don’t know keep running MADD Lane says hoopers hoop and we’re going to
