welcome into the show I’m am Emily proud happy playoffs to all who celebrate we certainly do here at 247 Sports and the first 12 team playoff officially gets rolling tonight with Notre Dame in Indiana but on this show we’ll go through each game in the first round Cooper pagna will stop by and pick this entire bracket but let’s start with the one at the top we have Clemson and Texas and not great stats for either team on this graphic Clemson 0 and 13 on the Road versus AP top five teams in Texas is riding a 10 game home losing streak vers AP top 15 teams so something has got to give Austin Hannon from Clemson 247 and Chip Brown from horns 247 have more Clemson was a surprise in the new 12 team field making the college football playoff despite being a three loss team from the ACC the tigers are taking a mentality of Clemson versus everybody as they head out to Austin to take on the Longhorns in the first round de the tiger staff encouraged the team to make it back to Atlanta after a season opening loss to Georgia at Mercedes-Benz Stadium if Clemson finds a way to pull off an epet over the Longhorns Arizona state will be waiting for them in the Peach Bowl in the quarterfinals offensively it’s a homecoming trip for lifelong Austin native Kate kumnick who played down the street from Saturday’s venue at West Lake high kumnick is looking to beat Quinn yers again after the two faced off at the high school level his running back Phil mafa is still playing through a pretty serious shoulder injury and Clemson lost its backup running back back to an ACL tear the last time out meaning kumnick will need to shoulder the load against Texas’s top ranked pass defense Antonio Williams the Tigers top receiver will be crucial in the short passing game defensively the Tigers will have to deal with a tricky scheme to defend Clemson’s defense isn’t the feared unit it has been in years past but the Tigers have some individual stars and the ability to turn the opponent over something that has plagued Texas in recent weeks sween’s team needs to shrink the game turn it into a low-scoring affair ensure an advantage in the turn over margin and hope that Kate kumnick can make some heroic plays down the stretch if all those things can happen Clemson might just have the chance to pull off this upset on the road this is what Texas has been waiting for I mean they set out at the beginning of the year Steve sarkeesian in February said that he was borderline obsessed with winning a national championship it was college football playoff or bust for this team because this is a team capable of winning a national championship but it’s starts with Clemson in Austin on Saturday Texas will have the benefit of the home crowd uh but there are some interesting storylines in this one because you’ve got uh this Texas defense going up against Cade kumnick the Clemson quarterback who’s from Austin West Lake in fact um Kate kumnick was on a state championship team uh from Austin West Lake that beat Quinn yers in South Lake Carroll in the 6A division one state championship game in 2020 the difference now is uh two of the defensive players for Austin Westlake who were huge stars in that state championship win are now playing for the Longhorns in safety Michael Taff and defensive end Ethan Burke Taff intercepted Quin your Ethan Burke brought the pressure that caused yers to throw those interceptions but as I said those guys are now playing for the Longhorns and will be going after their former teammate Cade klubnik in this game for the Texas offense it’s really about hanging on to the football Texas has moved the ball at will uh between the 20s even against Georgia in the first half of the SEC Championship game but turnovers um interceptions fumbles they’ve they’ve haunted Texas Texas has turned it over seven times in their last three games if they can hang on to the football and grind it out uh I think that Texas handles business in this game Texas is the more talented more complete team so they need to get it done uh on Saturday against Clemson and begin this four game march to a national championship thank you both keep it locked into Clemson 247 for all things Clemson football and horns 247 for everything you need to know about Texas
