did the New York Yankees overpay for Max freed well there’s two parts to this at 8 years 218 million that comes out to 27 million per season at 30 years old I definitely see that contract biting the Yankees in the ass down the road it’s going to be one of those Albatross contracts the last few seasons however if Max free can stay healthy the next few years I don’t think it’s an overpay at all so the first half of that contract I think is going to be a good deal the second half not so much but is it an overpay well not really when you compare his contract to other major league starting pitchers that are top tier such as number one number two starters here’s a list of the top paid pitchers in 2024 I’m not really going to include Otani cuz he’s a category all by himself sherzer 43 million Verlander 43 million deg Grom 40 million Cole 36 Corbin 35 straber 35 he retired Blake Snell at 32 rodon at 27 .8 NOLA from the Phillies 24.5 Castillo from the Mariners 24.1 wheeler 232 and Ray 23 so max freed kind of Falls right in the middle of all that and honestly that is the contract that you would have expected him to get the8 years though is what kind of throws me off and is more than likely the reason people say overpay because in 8 years he’ll be 38 making 27 million is he going to be able to hold up that long well I don’t think so but only time will tell I don’t think the Yankees are overpaying per season I think the Yankees are overpaying over time but again we’ll see and there has been a lot of talk about the Yankees and Cody Bellinger and the Houston Astros in Cody Bellinger but if you remember these comments I really don’t think the Houston Astros will have any chance at Cody Bellinger and I don’t think the Astros are going to want to take that chance the apologies were whatever uh I thought Jim cranes was weak um I thought man Fred’s punishment was weak giving him immunity um I mean these guys were cheating for three years um you know I think what people don’t realize is Altuve stole an MVP from Judge in 17 um everyone knows they stole the ring from us personally I lost respect for those guys um I think I would say everyone in the show in the big leagues lost respect for those guys human hits a walk-off home run against rdis Chapman to send your team to the World Series and one has the thought to say don’t rip my jersey off but to go in the tunnel change your shirt and then come out and do your interview like that that makes no sense to me and as for Cody Bellinger and the Yankees what the Cubs are wanting the Yankees to do is pay the majority of the 52.5 million remaining over the next 2 years the Yankees want the Cubs to take on more of that contract but in this case I really think the Yankees and hin Bruner just need to pay the deal did Cody Bellinger have a better 2024 than his 2023 no absolutely not but he’s a left-handed bat that can play first base center field right field and has a really good swing for Yankee Stadium yes he has a player opt out in 2025 but after losing stto the Yankees really do need a first baseman and in my opinion if I had to choose from Christian Walker and Cody Bellinger I would go with Cody Bellinger he would be making $27.5 million this season and if he decides not to opt out he’d be making 25 million in 2026 now I don’t want the Yankees to give up a shitload of young talent and have to pay all the money but if the Yankees have to give up minimal talent and pay the money in my opinion I think that is the right move what do you guys think about Cody Bellinger and the Yankees this Darren with grunt baseball I will talk to you guys later [Music] oh [Music]
