I think right off the bat I feel like we’re just gonna get a lot of caul brener touches Force feeding Ryan caul brener what did he finish with he he by the way sorry take a step back he by the way has two of the most absurd stat lines for a guy like Ryan runer that first game he had what like 49 uh yeah something like that and then this last game against Nebraska he had three points yeah he went 18 of 20 for 49 points with 11 rebounds and three blocks against utrgv he went who by the way utrgv is not terrible they’ve they’ve done all right this season sorry yeah 20 of 22 I was just looking at his two-point shooting um do against Nebraska 0 of one his only shot came from three he he did go four of eight from the stripe uh with 11 rebounds again and one block against one shot one shot and it was from the three point line yeah no I I’m pretty sure coach McDermot is going to say force feed this man especially with Ashworth out which if you saw that injury it didn’t look that painful like in live action but then you saw the replay and you saw him really grimacing and really hurting and having to be helped out to the locker room you kind of knew there was no chance he was going to play sdsu’s been operating without Reese Waters and knowing he’s going to be out for a significant amount of time and then that SDSU Gonzaga game is really where we saw um we saw Compton go down and have to go to the the locker room saw miles Bird go down so those are lingering injuries but really what I’m looking for right away is force feeding the big man get Ryan cul brener his touches like if you lose you lose but you cannot go down in that fashion with a guy like Ryan cul brener uh on your team Connor I I want to get your thoughts on this game obviously but is there like a little bit of Voodoo or is there like this narrative that I’m leaning too much into with kraton versus the Mountain West because it hasn’t been great over the last few seasons and I think last year they lost to uh uh UNLV right like is that a narrative that we should take seriously no uh no I don’t think so um this is a a different team uh I mean a kind of a different team for kraton it’s a completely different team for San Diego State uh none of the players in that San Diego State Elite 8 loss I believe are there um if they are they weren’t rotation pieces the the one player that maybe you have like a little bit of a you know oh it was my fault in that Elite Day game just beat San Diego State by 13 on the road so about that foul call yeah so uh you know I think there’s GNA be like a forced narrative in this one but I don’t think it’s actually G to play much of a factor I question the blue jay’s ability to get caul brener shots and the reason I say that is this kraton team for as good as it has looked against Bad opponents um they’re not shooting the ball well which means they’re not spacing the floor really the only player on this roster who you are as a defense are going oh yeah we need to key on him on the perimeter is Stephen Ashworth who’s not playing in this game what Nebraska was able to do so well people call it the Zaki rules is they did a hard and then they had another Defender another bigger Defender shading behind it really makes it difficult for to get cul Breer the ball and then once he gets the ball he has another Defender between him and the rim and I think that’s a strategy that San Diego State can kind of deploy um you can have a guy like miles bird or uh I don’t know I guess you’d have jiren uh colan LS fronting caul brener with Moon Guth behind as like the seven-footer between him and the rim and if kraton beats you from three okay okay right like that that’s what you’re banking on I think in this game San Diego State’s entire defense is going to be just make jamaah Neil and pop Isaac’s be efficient scorers yeah I I chose my words carefully when I said force fed because you you nailed it I I’m I’m a little concerned about kraton’s offense just in general and their ability to get caul Bren brener the ball so when I talk about Force feeding I get they may not be clean gathers for Ryan cul brener but I trust him to hopefully get his shots up and maybe make an impact down low offensively in the paint but I agree with you that these entry passes and trying to get him open in general is going to be a very arduous task especially against a really good defense in uh SDSU but and also stsu has experience now they they kind of got torched by Graham eek and gonzaga’s offense is clicking on a whole new level arguably than anyone else in the entire country but we saw gram eek feast in a half uh against stsu there is that potential for Ryan caul brener uh to to do that but I am concerned a little bit about kraton’s offense and you mentioned Jaan Neil pop Isaac’s struggled a little bit against Nebraska I’m still waiting on Mason Miller man like I I don’t think he gets a pass at this juncture of his career Steven Ashworth is out if you want another true knockdown shooter from the perimeter he’s got to be your guy Mason Miller man it is time to step up and hopefully provide a little spark for this kraton offense because if there was one thing Conor who but we both have kraton in the final four I didn’t think offense would be this difficult to come by and that’s why I’m a little concerned and now you got Ash rth down man it’s it’s tough let on offense for kraton right now yeah and and I think defensively uh the defense is where San Diego State’s going to win this game if I’m San Diego State I’m doing the hard front shade behind on cul brener I’m also I’m I’m testing jamaah Neil as this team’s point guard I think he’s going to get the primary point guard responsibility you know you might throw Isaac’s pop Isaac’s in there but in terms of playmaking for others uh through his five games J Neil just looked better at that I think pop isacs will get the ball he’ll play uh he’ll play one of those like Mark seers Caleb L rolls where he has the ball in his hands a lot but it’s for him to score and not necessarily for him to pass but I’m testing jamayah Neil at all junctures because I also think jamayah Neil is probably the weak link of this backcourt between him and pop Isaac’s and then forcing him into a point guard role that I don’t think he is used to uh it’s G to be tough It’s G going to be really tough for him um and same thing goes for pop ISAC pop ISAC is turning the ball over like it’s a hot potato but uh be like force the the backourt of kraton to beat you and you give yourself a real shot if you’re the Aztec so part of part of this calculus also Connor that we have not brought up is Nick Boyd Nick Boyd is capable of taking over a game for stretches at a time and we saw him actually do I don’t know if he necessarily took over against Gonzaga but he was clearly sdsu’s best player and be best offensive option and this was a team that chipped away to about seven or eight tried to make it a little threatening for Gonzaga yet again though Gonzaga is on a whole new level so it would not Shock me at all if Nick Boyd takes over for about seven straight minutes and kraton gets on their heels and that’s when SDSU pulls a little bit away just I I couldn’t go this preview any longer without mentioning Nick Boyd and really him being the best offensive option for the Aztecs yeah and I mean BJ Davis as a sophomore has looked pretty good Wayne mckin has years of experience under his belt um no I agree with you I think right now without Stephen Ashworth even though op isacs and Jamiah Neil might have the higher ceilings individually I think the backourt for San Diego State is just lighting better basketball uh they’re not going to be efficient offensively that’s never been San Diego State’s game but they without Ashworth especially are going to make life hell for this Craton offense uh diers has this as a 7370 Craton win which makes their best bet kraton money line uh make to beat Gonzaga and trying to be pick an obset maybe I should do it at This Way Conor I don’t know man I’m gonna go Kayon what about you I struggle to see this game hit 70 okay I’m not going to say it hit 70 for either team what I saw from San Diego State in their loss to Gonzaga to me was more impressive hold on I’ll get get to my point was more impressive than what I saw from Nebraska against St Mary’s and we saw what Nebraska a team that can’t shoot a team that can defend a team that had the perfect counter to cul brener with Ashworth on the floor it wasn’t like Ashworth went got hurt and that’s when Nebraska pulled away they did this with Ashworth on the floor M I think San Diego a better team than that I think kraton’s all out of sorts offensively they lose their point guard who would have been the second best player on the floor in this game uh so now you have cul brener and you have arguments about second third fourth fifth I think because of how that offense looks and kraton’s been a team historically that needs their offense firing on all cylinders to win games I I’m going to go 68-65 San Diego State I just I I’m going to go against you I’m going to go against dimer’s Pro which means I’m probably going to be wrong but I just think that this is a grinded out game which is a game that San Diego State historically performs better in than kraton does without a doubt and it’s not lost on me where this game’s taking place right we’re in Vegas I’m sure blue jay fans travel pretty well but so do Aztec fans and I wouldn’t be surprised if this is goingon to be a pseudo home game right so man I I look I I I might need to take a shower or something after my like I went back and Conor I will say of all the previews that we’ve done this is probably the most unsure I’ve been like even I I was even pretty not confident but I was sure of San Diego State beating in zag it was dumb it was foolish but in this game I’m just like man I genuinely have no clue I’m going to lean kraton as someone who’s done a bunch of ugly games this game is probably not going to even be in the top three of games I’ve had to preview and recap I did the Villanova Virginia game and I did the V Virginia tennessy game and I’m about to do the the review of whatever the heck happened in fville between Arkansas and Maryland Eastern sure uh I’m hoping this game is at least like a an entertaining brand of ugly but can it has the potential it can be uh but we’ll be back after this game no matter what happens I agree with you I think it’s going to be it’s going to be a close game
