🕵️‍♂️ Transcript:

[Music] welcome to crias chatter this is day two of this SPS test match the first of the Border gaaska trophy 20242 and something incredible happened today 2117 for 17 wickets on day one then Australia lost two a couple of wickets early and then someone crept in and replace the pitch while nobody was watching and then Australia went on to score 104 but that last partnership between Josh Hazelwood and M Stark showed that batting was possible and then India came and said what was all the fuss about in the first Innings 172 for no loss from 57 overs now Adam gilgas isn’t just an alltime Aussie great but he’s a resident of Perth very proud resident of Perth an ambassador for wa great lover of wa Cricket tell me about this illusion that took place after the ninth Wicket fail did someone quietly creep up and change the pitch yeah what contrasting days hasha that was um quite extraordinary I think uh well it looked like jff sprit was going to have uh business as usual coming in and picking up a wicket with his first ball of the day uh gets his 11th five Wicket Hall and what an inspiration he’s been already in just uh a couple of days for India on this tour um yeah no one could have predicted what the outcome was going to be but just in that first session uh I think both teams were able to make observations of of what was transpiring in the form of that Cricket pitch a warmer day today than yesterday in Perth it was sort of unseasonably cool yesterday and a little bit of humidity around but today was back up mid to high 20s tomorrow is going to be into the 30s but the pitch certainly was much more sedate certain uh once that ball got a little bit older and when your last Wicket stand numbers 9 and 11 batting out a partnership of 18.4 overs the Australians would have been looking saying wow it is possible to get through on this pitch uh and the Indians would have too been watching and saying we can take comfort that yesterday was a different story today there may be hope for us to dig in and go long and go big and we saw the result so yeah quite extraordinary um that we’ll talk about it in this chatter but the pitch is going to play a big part I think now I wasn’t sure that the cracks were going to open up but they may well do it was like a delinquent was out on parole and everybody was watching so was on on his best behavior then India came out to bat and Australia’s chance at that time we thought 46 could well be a big lead and it’s it’s it’s a new ball surface isn’t it the moment India played out that new ball India didn’t seem in a rush and Gilly I was so impressed with yashas jwal because I’ve seen him bat in this little career of his and he likes to get a move on today he’s on 90 of 193 balls and he he just hung in there the old victim allowed the new ball Bowlers their time and then your time will come afterwards and I mean Gil is you you could play in two gears too I mean he’s if if you look at the 50s that he’s had so far this was his slowest 50 of the 50s that he had so far his last three have come in 31 balls 43 balls 41 balls today 123 and I I think he should be Mighty proud of this what did you make of of jwell oh just so impressive I I love looking at that uh that little graphic we had there that that first test match 104 ball 50 on debut the concerning thing for Australia every Indian cricket fan and pretty much every Cricket fan around the world knows what he went on to do in that Innings on day 171 occupied uh upwards of 380 deliveries so his appetite was there right from his very first Innings to show that he can apply himself and you pointed so beautifully harsh a contrast there that he can get 40 50 ball 50s in this format we we’ve seen what he does in the IPL and how he lit that up but um nothing but wonderfully impressed with this young man and all this on the backdrop of uh a duck in his first outing in test Cricket over here in Australia so the psychology to come in there on a pair uh I was calling at the time he got one on his hip and I said oh he’s off the mark and then the Umpire raised the leg and said no no it’s a leg by so I thought oh put the mocker on him have I but no I certainly haven’t that’s um a commanding performance of skill and technique but as equal importance was the mindset with which he’s gone about it and you suspect a little bit of cramping in the forearm towards the end of the day a good night sleep I think there might be more tomorrow it won’t be surprised at all because the one thing I wanted to see from Jess was whether he could resist that urge to go and you saw he he sort of came out of his shell a couple of times one when he slogged one over midwicket I think it went one bouns for four then finally relas shot against Nathan lion a significant move up for yeses jball in his career he’s a chirpy little fellow too he might have uh he might have had a little bit of a conversation with mid Stark once or twice but the quality that he possesses is he he could tomorrow if he thinks right we’re in a good position just quickly quickly turn it on so well played yashas J well during the IPL I had a long conversation with with with Brian Lara we found ourselves in the car together going going to the game and coming back and he said this this boy is so hungry to learn every time he met Brian Lara he said he would be with me for three hours just asking me about batting so he he’s hungry but let’s see if he can get a 100 tomorrow I was very happy with k r i get a lot of flag Gil because I’ve been saying n k R’s a special player and I get a lot of flack for that because he’s averaging 32 but I thought he showed a lot very good temperament you did say he was UN on air I thought in in the first Innings 62 of 153 uh an Innings sort of identified by patients yeah yeah look I guess the people that give you Flack for supporting him so wholeheartedly may look at him and see the the talent and the skill and the Brilliance at times of K Rah in all formats of the game uh he’s uh he’s has consistently performed in T20 white ball cricket and then into the Test match Arena but maybe not with the consistency that that the talent and the potential that we all see in him that might be the criticism of him but he’s a versatile cricketer he wasn’t even in the original touring party he’s batted between 1 and six in that batting lineup um in other versions of the game he’ll get called on to Wicked keep so what I love is that his ability to be on call to commit to whatever the role is for his country and part of the role today was not just to get himself to 60 yard and and absorb deliveries but was to help coach and encourage through in Partnership it’s a game of Partnerships uh the younger batting Partners so of vital importance all the headlines I guess at the moment will be about J SW but and who knows what unfolds tomorrow but uh I think a lot of the focus a lot of the glare should be on K Rahul because that’s an Innings of great substance and and and just has India in such a dominant position still a long way to go in this test match and I think that’s what those two batters knew even as that partnership grew they knew they had to Value their Wicket because it will still be a Pitch I think that wickets will come not necessarily 17 a day but little batches of wickets might come in clumps because it it mightn’t be that easy to start on since you mentioned Gil R and his versatility we’ve actually got a question that’s coming one of our ask cribs questions and it’s an interesting one actually we discussed it a bit today on commentary when Rohit Sharma returns as he will for the second test match assume K rul gets a 7080 is almost there gets 100 maybe does he go back to number six look if Shan Gill is fit he comes to number three otherwise kale rul can bat at three but assuming everybody is available what do you do do you tell him thank you very much we’ll give you a little little medal for volunteering to open the batting but thank you we’ll see you back at six what a headache to have two days into a tournament and into a series coming over here after a 3-0 drubbing to New Zealand and there’s a little bit of panic and chaos and uncertainty and they go underground for 10 days in their buildup but all of a sudden here we are spoil for options uh potentially when the the various uh members either get fit or turn up for the tour um and throw you know rumor swirling around per Stadium today Muhammad shami might be joining in time to even play Adelaide I don’t know what the Intel is from back uh back home in India but uh yeah nice nice options for India to have look I I don’t know there’s a lot to play out between now and then we need to see what happens with shman Gill how quickly that injury can heal what Row’s mindset is when he turns up does he does he come and allow himself a bit more time to be ready for say the third test up at the gabber um so many variables in there it purely is speculation at the moment but I guess that the one thing we do Uno is the point we touched on Kale Rahul is versatile enough to fill any number of those roles and if he’s left out after what he’s achieved in this series it’ be a tough leave out it’ll be a hard call but you would assume that they would only do it if they felt that they were making the Indian team stronger for it Ro sha will come in Father mode isn’t it how easy is it to move Killy from father to criet might need some sleep he might need more sleep but the these opening Partnerships they achieved a lot of first today I think the last time India had a century partnership was back in 20034 might have been seag and uh and and Akash Chopra but you look at the main Partnerships you’re going 1948 2003 1981 1986 there were a couple of gabas Shri Partnerships as well visiting teams Gilly don’t come to Australia and put up too many Century Partnerships I think there was truss and cook there might have been at some point but it’s very rare that visitors come to Australia and put on 170 yeah that that’s exactly right even the generation of cricketers I played against for India and and and a couple of Series where India challenged us and even drew a series and and then the successful Series in the last two visits it’s been that probably more the middle order runs hasn’t it it’s your pajara 3 who was the the the Rahul dver equivalent of being the wall or the Rock the foundation to build around and then and then the flashy flamboyant of rishab pant down the order uh but the openers have had a tough time of it because Australian Opening attacks generally exploit these conditions really well so the value there uh on a on a pitch that again in contrast to yesterday certainly played uh wasn’t as badly behaved but uh it’s as much about mindset we we play these highlights package in our broadcast don’t we have a 50 partnership 100 150 or individual accolades we never in those packages put in balls that were left they’re not that exciting to watch I know but it’s as much about the balls that you don’t play at that can contribute to the building of such significant Partnerships it’s a very fair point because at one point I think it might have been when they’ got 30 35 together coming out of a break there was a partnership highlights package and it showed a single and I I I thought I thought the single was was such an important part of the early part of the Innings when when they were running well together so yeah that that much about the batting I’m going to ask you just a little later very very very shortly from now where you see this game going but just a final word I know we spent time and time and time talking about bumra but a Fifer on debut a cap a captain spell five on debut and I thought the most important thing jpr bura did today was get Alex car and dare I say number seven was looking the most organized Australian batter on day one that was such a big moment in the game it was if anyone was going to claw Australia back into this contest in the first Innings it was Alex kry over 400 first class runs this year for South Australia uh but he just he didn’t get into it he he wasn’t allowed into it it was uh I mean it may look like a ball that Alex Kerry could have left the first delivery from bura but it was um the angle around the Wicket so as a left-hander a bowler coming around the Wicket a right arm Bower it angles in and then it just so subtly leaves the left-hander so you’re you’re committed to playing you’re trying to feel bad on ball at the start of the Innings and Alex kry does like bad on ball so it led the false stroke caught the edge and at that point you knew that Australia weren’t really going to threaten the total I think we’re all surprised at how long they did end up batting for but uh they didn’t although they battered in that last uh partnership so long they didn’t damage India on the scoreboard and and that was I thought uh through the the Brilliance of buer getting that fifth Wicket and then allowing his Bowlers to Chip Away Chip Away uh maybe maybe just maybe we saw for the first time that the support act around bura whilst exceptional yesterday and and very good today but just that Reliance on Boomer to have to try and come and get those breakthroughs I know that it was hashid Rana who finished up cleaning up that last week of Stark and he was excellent on debut uh maybe we just saw that the the Reliance on bura will be there throughout this series for India to continue to press Australia for a third series victory in a row could not agree more I I I thought the only variome aspect of play today was that India had to go back to harit Rana and jasprit bura to break the partnership right time let’s let’s look at a little bit but it’s time to put the genial Gilly actually that’s a good graphic for you genial Gilly ever since you retired at the jial Gilly to put Gilly in the hot [Music] spot at what point Gilly do Australia start to look very concerned is there can there be a little bit of panic coming oh hang on this was not the script that was intended to be is that point here already at what point will it come if it isn’t I think they’re concerned already without doubt I don’t think you’ll see Panic from Australia that’s not Pat com captaincy style it’s not the way he lead and they are very experienced uh perhap well by age I think they might be the oldest uh more experienced Australian cre team that’s ever walked out there for Australian men’s Cricket but so they have a lot of experience amongst them they’ve been in a lot of different situations not too many times in this situation particularly on home soil so there’ll be concerns mainly I think given we’re going to be upwards of 33 34° tomorrow uh the pitch while sedate more sedate today the cracks were just starting to come into it initially I thought they won’t open up but as we get warmer weather there’s some cracks and I I don’t think they necessarily going to mean uh that the ball’s going to be doing things completely unplayable out of control but that then enters the mindset that coupled with the fact that they don’t have a wicket yet India at 28 18 ahead it’s a long long way back into this game or to survival for Australia at the moment so very much concerned already it is and and and Gilly being the consumit media professional as he is after retirement has almost completely answered my next section but I’ve got just a bit left for him on that we’re going to go fast forward with Gilly they’re not going to see one of those vka kind of cracks it where the ball hits the and goes to Second slip as it as it did sometimes it it’ll never get as bad as that but will there be a little con first Innings concern because some of the Australian bats when you think early the season could they be a little short on confidence and what is a score that Australia will start to get really worried about because you look down that look’s H’s there’s a lot of ability in there and they’ll be looking at it and saying just as India did India looked at Australia’s bowling knocked out 150 said maybe we can bowl too Australia can look at what India did and say hang on we can B too I mean we B it down to number nine and 10 and 11 can hang around too but is there a what what is that score Gilly what is that score that Australia don’t want to see a Target yeah just just so much time left in the game Hasa and it’s about I think for the Australian batting when they get their opportunity it’ll be about learning and and observing I was chatting with ver Coy before play today and he said when he got dismissed in that first Innings he was like down and out and you know disappointed but then he observed the rest of the day and by the end of the day he thought well I don’t need to be too harsh on myself I wasn’t the only one that was dismissed cheaply in a a chaotic day uh here in Perth so and and I would assume a guy like jce made that observation too you don’t need to panic just because of you know one result mini result in in the broader context so Australia will have to observe India’s application and the way they’ve gone about it and built an innings substance in the second Innings and they’ll have to believe that they can do something similar it’s not the pitch that was there on the first day it is an Australian top order uh that there’s a few guys that have been short on runs in their last say 12 months of test match cricket they have had some trying conditions by way of maybe ball just slightly favoring the bat but uh it’s not insurmountable uh I I don’t know well I can pluck a number out of the air I can save 400 I can say who knows it might be uh 350 if they can get a roll on with the ball it might be 450 and upwards of 500 it’s just so unpredictable but that’s the beauty of the game isn’t it I as what I do know is it is a huge advantage to India at the moment tomorrow first session we always say vitally important but more important from an Australian point of view than an Indian Point of View there’s two things happening tomorrow in in Indian cricket in world cricket and on cribuz of course so while we appreciate what Gilli has told us about tomorrow as soon as play ends there is of course the IPL auction and as usual we’ll be live with you analyzing the auction uh 2:00 onwards I’m looking forward to seeing what Joy has to say about these auctions and then and and GK we have a lot of fun so do join us if you’re going to have a lot if you’re looking forward to fun you’re looking forward to analysis and I know Gil’s got to go Gil I’m going to throw five at you five questions quickly if you’re ready auction just remind you actually a lot of you young kids won the IPL as captain of the deck and Chargers all those all those years ago and then of course went up to Kings okay here’s questions for you true or false you think you think yes or no Risha pant highest bid in the in the IPL auction what do you think yes it will be okay yes or no uh yeah I I I think so too Mitch star’s record auction fee will it get breached 24.75 crores people would mind getting that over three years of the IP yeah that’s yeah that’s a that’s a hard one I guess that that price and he and Pat came up in that the mini auction didn’t they I don’t think historically we see the the really big numbers in the in the big auctions because there’s uh so many more to pick from so I don’t think that number is going to be breached so having said that going back to my first answer about rishab P the reason why he’s going to be the highest speed he is such an impressive character he’s got the skill he bats he keeps he can Captain he’s got the personality and he’s marketable what an asset so oh yeah but I’ll still say a no to that one I don’t think uh the record is going to be breached I don’t think so either my gut feeli is that Henrich clarson 23 might just end up being the highest figure okay your friend Ricky Ponting he’s he’s gone off to uh to Saudi Arabia is is he going to reunite with SH a do you think they they actually had a very good run at Delhi capitals is he going to reunite with SH AER do you think at Punjab Kings yes or no yeah I would think they’d be very keen he he’d be one player that they would have a tick next to that uh whether it’s at all costs they’ll have to look at their you know the the the players that they retain the balance what they’re trying to build uh but uh they’ve got a big budget haven’t they up there at Kings uh they’ve certainly yeah theyve got more money than everyone else Gilly put yourself in the auction you can go there too well is it too late okay uh I think it is jof has joined recently but yeah yeah I think so no no we like we want you on Cribs all our cribs people are going off to join teams that’s how valuable they are we want you on cribuz okay today’s knock will prepare K rahul’s stock at the auction oh look I don’t think anyone needs convincing any further convincing about his we’ve already spoken about his versatility his adaptability uh maybe you know by the end of tomorrow there might be even more belief in his game if he can turn one on and turn this into a really big daddy 100 as they say he’s got to get to 100 first but uh look now I think everyone’s fairly um knowledgeable on his skills and his attributes again he’s a he’s a marquee player I think he’s a guy that any franchise would love to have so um yeah he’ll be highly sought after but whether it blows him into the top Stratosphere he’ll be picked up for a healthy price my gut feel is this knock may not have much to do with because it showed a completely different facet of k r it may not have a direct impact on the auction it’s a last one before we let you go do you think Glenn Maxwell I tell you why we’ve got a we’ve got a couple of Hardcore RCB fans here at crickbuz will Glenn Maxwell reunite with RCB in your view oh goodness I really am speculating here gee they had to drop him for most last season didn’t they yeah yeah I I don’t think so I think he’ll still be a very very hunted player he’ll be very sought after but I’m not sure that RCB will be going back inre I’m I’m going no on that one as well thank you very much Gilly as usual for joining us crib chat we will use your valuable insights at the end of day three the question is we have no idea what Daye three is going to throw up after day one and day two so we’ll wait and see we’ll join you tomorrow cheers [Music]
