obviously the the big move over the week uh weekend um year Che um a very high rated Prospect with Columbus Blue Jack’s number six overall pick just a few years ago um little bit on the outs there from what we what we gather is skating was an issue uh with him but what’s the overall rate on him as a player and Prospect and what his upside is and what do you make of kind of how much the wild gave up um in that particular deal well the upside is massive right I mean that explains what they paid all those draft picks uh as well as Damon hunt and you know when you have a 6’4 defenseman who’s just turned 21 here in the last couple days shoots right I mean those kind of players in the NHL they’re they’re they’re not very plentiful and the ones that are um you know make a lot of money usually so you know I think whether or not he can become you know what made him a six overall pick a couple years ago that’s that’s the two be determined part and and you but I can see why the wild were were so you know Keen to get him because this is a weird trade I mean think about it Columbus is still in a rebuilding process this is a player they’ve taken who they I mean obviously they feel they know what he is that clearly if they’re trading him I think it’s it’s implied that they don’t believe he’s going to become a Difference Maker as an NHL player or else why why trade him um but you know there’s still a lot of time for him to to have a say in that and for you know the development team with the wild uh to to work with him and to get him under his feet I mean it has to be said he he didn’t have a very stable you know beginning of his NHL career that the the Blue Jackets have changed management they’ve changed coaching staff a couple different times uh you know before his 21st birthday he’s played for multiple coaches when he has played he was in and out of the lineup up and down with the American Hockey League I mean I think a little bit of stability and will will do him well in terms of seeing you know can he reach that ceiling can he push Beyond it but you know this sort of trade I’m I’m trying I’m struggling to think of one in modern times where we’ve had this where it’s just this early in a top prospects uh cycle where the team that’s trading away for draft picks is still in a rebuild and it’s a team in this case at the top of the standings that’s getting him with a long-term view in mind I mean basically all the assumptions that are usually built into NHL trades were thrown out the window on this one and I think it’s a bold play for for the wild if they can turn him into something I mean we’re going to look back on this even with all those draft picks and say what a home run to get that guy before he even really established himself as an NHL player and people ask me too like how that’s a lot to give up and I tell them first of all they they hope that first round conditional first rounders like in the mid 20s right if the season goes the way they want it to go and they’ve drafted probably more players in the last four or five years than most teams have they haven’t really traded a lot of their picks um a lot some of the prospects are coming and going to be playing in the NHL they hope and I guess the big crystal ball is to have the you know broin you know Faber Middleton Spurgeon Bome and year Che and that’s a pretty good six right there you know going forward for for for a while so I guess if you look at that way if you build your your team from the goal tending and defense out I guess that’s kind of one strategy to look at it if this guy does turn out right and and you know some people do have those pick valuation models where basically every pick has an expected value that you can put a number to and you know to simplify it down essentially if you add up the expected value of those picks it’s roughly a sixth overall pick I think that that that informed a lot of the discussions in terms of getting arriving at that final trade price and so you know really what you’ve done is you’ve given up quantity in terms of number of picks for quality and you know a lot of this will now hint you know hinge on whether your Che becomes the kind of NHL player that obviously Minnesota thinks he can if he does I I’m pretty confident in saying they’ll probably gonna win the trade and now it’s going to take us 20 years to figure this out I mean that that that 20 27 second rounder that that kid still like a freshman in high school or something right now so it might it might be a long way being able to just you know until they’re doing the trade Tree on this one it’s going to be a long way in the future but you know I think if your Che becomes a regular NHL player contributor someone maybe eventually is on their second pairing you know that’s that’s a pretty you you’d make that trade it’s just you know this is the unknown you’re dealing with human beings there’s there’s aspects that no one could know for sure but I I I admire how bold they were and I think it is interesting that one of the better teams in the league was the one pulling the trigger here I mean it tells you a lot of what the organization thinks of this player and um you know draft picks aren’t worth much you want you want players you want people to make a difference and you know this guy’s up with the NHL team now I know he’s not going to play tomorrow but you know he’s he’s someone that’s that’s going to play games for them soon and you’re getting that return Now versus waiting you know five years down the road just to make a
