you know give give the Lakers a lot of credit they they won the ball game but uh uh the way we played both defensively and offensively was not good I know they shot 40% from the field uh for the game but they touched our paint whenever they wanted they drove us whenever they wanted which collapsed our defense which allowed them to shoot very easy catch and shoot threes um they manhandled us on the boards I the 15 offensive rebounds uh for the 18 Second Chance points especially in a low-scoring game uh is hard to overcome um we did not box out at at any point during the night and uh and all three of these were our keys uh to the game I put our defensive Keys up on the the TV screen again for our guys to see uh because we talked about protecting our paint and they got there easy and sprayed the basketball we talked about boxing out and they just manhandled us on the glass they had 15 offensive rebounds for 18 Second Chance points again a low lows scoring game that’s going to be hard to overcome and and then uh the next thing is um whenever we did get beat we didn’t stay on the guy’s hip and take them to our help defense we just reached we reached and they had 30 free throws because we reached um so somehow some way we have to make up our mind and decide who we want to be uh because uh tonight was not a good performance at any level uh in terms of trying to let the Lakers and everybody else know that we want to get back to where we feel we should be in the standings offensively offensively again like I said we we reached they had 30 free throw attempts offensively we had 12 turnovers for 17 points and most of the turnovers were unforced and excuse me in the second half in the second half we had 12 turnovers for 17 points think about this now they shot 40% from the floor but for a half we had 12 turnovers for 17 points that were probably majority of them were unforced one of the things we keep doing we keep trying to throw dolas the basketball when a small guy’s on them and we keep throwing him a bounce pass and I tell her guys if you have if dolas has a small guy on you you can’t throw a bounce pass you got to seal do almost got to ask for the ball away from the small guy and you got to throw it up to his hand because if you throw a bounce pass the pass is slower not only is it slower it’s bringing it down to where the little fella can get come up with the basketball or deflect it but Time and Time and Time and Time and Time and Time Again we keep doing it not only that get taught this in middle school if I see a switch and domas has a guy sealed and I’m at at the top of the floor I’m going to throw it to Tony on the wing so Tony has a better angle to throw it in the dness in the post I’m not going to try to throw it from here because that’s a tough angle to throw him the ball so between the unforced turnovers and a handful of them being us trying to feed domas in the post with bounce passes or from the top of the floor uh it resulted in them shooting 40 points but excuse me shoot shooting 40% from the floor but still scoring 113 points and last thing I would say is um we didn’t move the ball the ball stuck it was almost for the first time yet we had 27 assists but I’m telling you guys if you get an opportunity to go back and watch the film go back and watch the film and and watch how many times we touched the paint and we tried to thread the needle to dome us we tried to score they had six blocks in the first half because we’re trying to shoot over ad and when you go back and watch the film you watch when you touch that paint those guys wide open on the perimeter you got spray it we had four we had four sprays in the second half four and we get around 20 21 or something like that a game we had four sprays not not not we made four we made two but we only touched the paint and sprayed it four times the whole half the whole second half so if the ball’s going to stick and not move you’re going to score 100 points especially when you have 12 turnovers for for 17 points in the second half coach a second straight game and there’s been a couple um earlier as well where they’re not executing the keys as you’re pointing out or like The Possession game that you emphasize a lot as a coach what do you what do you do in those scenarios I’mma keep drilling it I’m going keep showing the film and I’mma keep demanding that they do it that’s what my job is and sooner or later I got to find somebody that can do it do it consistently so I got to keep searching Mike forgive the bluntness no you good kind of a lot of talk not a lot of action we’ve heard what your challenges are to the guys they’re saying the right things at least in in front of the media and then we’re not seeing the results necessarily on the floor I know there’s the contract that you have all the guys sign up saying they’re 100% engaged in bought into what we’re doing are you seeing that with this team action wise other than just just words no right I me it’s it’s evident we’re not seeing it a action wise you know I mean it is what it is and that’s why I mean I didn’t yell at the guys cuz there’s no nothing to yell about they know exactly what we have to do whether or not we go go do it and tonight we didn’t go do it you know and so somehow some way again starts with me somehow some way I got to figure out how to get him to do it by continuing to drill it by continuing to show him on film and if need be I got to try to find somebody else that can do it you know Mike it does feel like this team like three steps forward two steps back like all the time yeah what do you think that they can’t capture any momentum at all and sort of carry something from one game to the next well you know in order to be really good in this league you got to fight through hard you know um it’s not easy and it’s not going to be easy at any time and so sooner or later we have to just make up our mind no matter how tired we are physically no matter how tired we are mentally no matter what the officials are calling or not calling no matter what’s going right or what’s going wrong we got to make up our mind that we’re just going to leave it on the floor and try like hell to play the right way on both ends of the floor Mike just how do you see your team um you know you end up with some bad habits and how do you prevent some of these new ones from compounding maybe some of the things where you just have a laundry list of things to focus on at that point Sean it’s we just got to keep coaching you know I got to keep coaching point out the mistakes um and you know in the same breath I got to keep encouraging because we do we have a chance to be good and you’re not going to always climb this way you’re going to take a couple steps back but some of the mistakes that we’re making that are self-inflicted or that have to do do with being hard like how many times do we actually go hit somebody and beat them to a long rebound or loose ball that’s just a determination and willpower that you H have to have inside to say I am not going to let my man beat me to this loose ball I am not going to let my man get to the offensive glass how many times were we there and they just grabbed us and threw us out the way and went and got the ball and put it in again you got to have a a mental uh discipline to say that’s not going to happen on my watch and then you got to go do it and like I said that I me I I had no timeouts with four minutes ago and literally every time I took a timeout I said the same thing man we got to box out we got to move to basketball we got to box out we got to move to basketball long shots equal long rebounds you can’t turn and walk to the rim you got to go find your guy you got to hit him and then you got to go track down the long rebound or the loose ball Mike uh one of the things that you’ve been asked a lot about and you’ve you’ve talked a lot about is the slow starts um and I guess this is maybe just a symptom of of you know something bigger with these other issues as well but but to be down 15 to after you know some of what you you’ve tried to say and and emphasize how disappointing was that how frustrating is it to to you know see that happen again and again uh no Jay it’s it’s just disappointing you know uh because you know again we’re saying the right things you know as a team say hey let’s go hit first and the guys say it but uh we’re not doing it and again it’s it’s tough to overcome I mean you give up a 37o quarter and now you you got to make up ground the whole game and like I said not only you got to make up ground the whole game you’re giving your opponent confidence I mean everybody on that team at the end of the first quarter felt a confidence level that helped them throughout the rest of the game and until we do what we’re going to say do excuse me until we do what we say we’re going to do uh it’s going to be a tough go but the neat part about it it’s in our control and if we want to go get it we’ll go get it Dean there’s been a lot of talk when we were talking to coach about the same things being said but seeing the same results how is the team reacting to what Mike has been telling you guys I mean we got to go out there and and and execute the plan at the end of the day I mean uh once you step out there you know obviously you have what he said in mind but you know if you’re just thinking about it and not doing it then at the end of the day like that means nothing so um I mean a big thing about it tonight was uh keeping the free throw line and them touching our paint um I don’t know how many threes they hit that came off of Threes that were just like isolation and them just shooting the ball but I would think at least 10 of their 12 came from after they touched the paint dear just where is the level of frustration with the players like behind the scenes with you guys and how do you get through a situation like this I mean you’ve been here before in your career but how do you fight through this I mean you got to find ways to to break through that um in the day like it’s not like like offensively outside of turnovers like we shot decent percentages but you know we didn’t keep them off the offensive glass and we allowed 30 free throws d as as the leader of this team uh what are you doing personally to try to get the message that you guys have to have a sense of urgency to win these games I mean at some point you know especially in this uh in this conference like you you keep losing games like this and then we look back like last year and uh you’re you’re on the outside looking in so um I mean just let letting guys know like we’re we keep talking about how good of a team we think we can be and you know this and this and that and that but until we’re able to you know roll off consistent wins or be consistent as a team like that that means nothing Fox does it feel like you know a lot of problems that you guys have had now when you add new things to it does it tend to kind of double up on those some of those issues and those frustrations uh yeah I mean even through like the first three quarters we weren’t we felt like we weren’t playing good and I think we’re down like six like we were still in the game so um just being able to execute in that fourth quarter and get stops when we needed and get rebounds when we needed we just didn’t do so like I said at some point we have to be consistent with what we’re doing Fox you guys have a tendency to fall down maybe double digits early and then put together these runs and battle back and even take a lead and then it seems to stop is that something that’s on you guys taking the foot off the gas is the opponent adjusting why does the lead or the run not continueing the lead not continue to build in your mind uh well all teams go on Le on on runs good teams bad teams so uh if we want to be a good team we have to be consistent throughout the game obviously it’s a game of runs and those things happen but um until we’re able to put together a run and try to sustain it you know if we’re able to uh hit them they hit us back and we’re able to respond then um you know we can’t call ourselves a good team we have to be able to do that and we’ve done it for stretches but to be a good team in this league you have to be able to do that on a consistent basis if not then you know you look like I said look at a season you’re like oh well we had um spurts here we looked good but everybody has those spurts so Mike seems to hold you to a really high standard as like the guy on this team um how much do you also take on that responsibility yourself and like looking back on these games feel like there’s more that you could have done yeah I mean uh obviously like with fouls and then I think I had two or three minute stretch where I was turning the ball over uh just have to be better in those um in those moments you know those are moments that we were fighting back uh getting the game to you know seven back to five back to four um and then I turn the ball over and it blows back up to 10 so um like I said it’s it’s always about trying to be consistent especially um in those moments where where the teams need you um obviously we weren’t great offensively tonight um so the least amount the less amount of possessions that we’re getting isn’t going to help us
