the description who else could it be but me you’re man Lou T welcome to Thursday night football overtime Broncos Chargers AFC West family business you know how to family do it not going to get to do that too many more times we got one more Thursday night game and it’s a it’s nasty I’ll just say that I’ll be nice um but this one this one was good this was some quality ball and didn’t feel like it was going to be at the beginning of this thing it didn’t feel like the Chargers were going to be able to get a stop tonight and I was asking myself what the hell happened to this defense just a week ago they were the number one scoring defense and now they can’t buy a stop I mean they were converting third and 11s third and nines third and sixes it didn’t matter what the distance was they were converting and I was like man this defense is struggling and I’m listening to Kirk herb Street try to convince me that they’re missing aloy Gilman and cam Hart and I’m like that’s not why this defense is struggling okay that’s those guys don’t play defensive tackle those guys don’t play linebacker they’re struggling because they can’t stop the run and then on third Downs whether they they they can’t get any pressure on the quarterback so finally Jesse Mentor said to hell with this [ __ ] man I’m just going to Blitz if we get beat we get beat but I’m not going to sit back and let this man have all day to throw and us play soft coverage drop into you know coverage and and be you know allowing guys to catch check downs and run for first downs because we we’ve gotten too much depth in our drops to hell with that [ __ ] and he just started blitzing but I thought there were so many turning points and so many big plays that kind of swung the pendulum of momentum in this game and we’re going to hit all of them as we go through this game but obviously Chargers get the win 20 or excuse me 34 to 27 over the Broncos finished the game on a 21-3 run I mean this thing was 21 to 10 and that’s when all hell kind of broke loose right before the half we’ll get to all of that but big win for the Chargers because it look they were going to win their last two games more likely than not so this whole notion that uh oh you know but the pressure starts to mount you lose this game that’s two in a row you start looking over your shoulder you start to realize hey we need to win here and maybe you you have a cluster F against the Patriots next week and then the pressure really starts to M but the likelihood is even if you lost tonight you were going to rebound next week and you’re going to beat the Patriots and you’re going to finish up beating the Raiders as well but that’s no here nor there you took care of business you ensured yourself a winning season and you’ve essentially punched your ticket to the postseason because you’re winning one of your next two so instead of you having to win the you know the you know final two games you just got to win one more that’s it and so um Big Win um I think you would have needed to just win one anyway but um you’re all but a short of the playoff spot so this was a big one but this was another one of those games and a middle finger to those who love to bring up Justin Herbert’s record instead of just acknowledging that he’s one of them ones this is why um bum ankle not a ton of talent around him things aren’t going well but he continues to play at a high level the throw to Darius Davis for the touchdown down rolling out to his left with pressure in his face as he’s getting hit throwing across his body what are we talking about man seriously like I get it that throw from his own End Zone across his body was dumb dumb stuff okay something you tell every kid at home don’t ever let me see you do that [ __ ] and most guys in the league wouldn’t even think to attempt it because they don’t have a strong enough arm to be able to even think about completing something across their body like that but that was a bad decision and sometimes when you have that kind of talent when you have the arm talent that Justin Herbert has which is probably top five in the NFL you you you think you can get away with [ __ ] that you probably shouldn’t try like a guy with a lesser arm isn’t going to attempt that because they know they can’t get away with that but when you have the tools that Herbert has in his toolbox it starts to allow you to get cocky and a little bit arrogant that athletic arrogance kicks in and you’re like no no I can make that throw probably shouldn’t do that but that throw to Darius Davis that was special okay that was special and I don’t know of many guys in the NFL that can make that play that was some special stuff but I digress um fast start I think he started eight of eight the game but you know weren’t able to finish drives got the finish on the um second Drive of the game they went three and out I hated the play calling on the first drive like it’s third and two or three and you go with a toss outside with um I think it was Darius Davis they tried to get him on the perimeter I I didn’t I didn’t like the play call like anytime I got a chance to put the ball in the hand of 10 I’m going to do it and I felt like a lot of the drives that stalled out early in the game were because they didn’t trust 10 enough you know and so I was really disappointed in that Denver then gets the football and remember what I talked about you know yesterday we we were on the podcast I broke this game down gave you my preview in my prediction I told you I thought the final score would be 2420 Chargers and I said the reason I thought the Chargers would win this game is because the one thing they’ve struggled with here of late stopping the run and I said here’s the kicker the Broncos don’t run it well so they really don’t have anything to worry about tonight that was my sentiment that is why I thought the Chargers would win is because defensively they’ll get their [ __ ] together because Denver while they can be a solid offense they’re no world beaters and I felt like Bo Knicks was starting to regress a bit he was awesome tonight we’ll get to him here in a bit but he did miss a throw and I thought that was the that was the game turning like that was the opportunity for them to win the game that’s not why they lost the game but that’s a huge part of why they didn’t win right but we’ll get to that when we get to Denver um so that was my whole basis for picking the Chargers is that the one thing that they aren’t doing well right now which is stopping the run the Broncos don’t do well at all so they don’t have anything to worry about there so they’ll they’ll get back on track defensively offensively they’ll do just enough and they’ll win the game and in the first possession the Broncos come out and run the ball down the throats of the Chargers it was incredible and you could tell that the the first 15 that was scripted was intentional because they were cycling in backs they put four different guys in the back field on the first five plays of the game the first play of the game they started with esime took him out the second play of the game javante was in took him out third play of the game they put in um the receiver Mims fourth play of the game they put in a dude I never heard of before 25 I I I don’t even know his name now right and so I’m like what the hell is going on here like why are We Cycling but they made it a point of e of intention to try to get this run game on track and he wanted to give multiple guys an opportunity to showcase what they could do and it worked early on everybody was getting something javante was eating ese was eating 25 was eating and everybody was eating good in the neighborhood and they ran that thing right down the field down the Chargers throat estimate caps it off it’s seven nothing I’m like oh [ __ ] if that’s going to continue tonight the Chargers don’t stand the chance unless Herbert feels like scoring 40 tonight so of course Herbert says all right see what type of time time y’all on y’all still think we playing Tampa Bay y’all ain’t woke up from last week so let me get on my [ __ ] so he takes him down the field him and L Maki do what they do best got him all the way down there they C the drive off with a gus Edwards touchdown 77 and I’m thinking okay herbs Jay Jay herbro is up for the challenge if that’s what y’all trying to do tonight eight of eight to start the game Jay herbro is up for the challenge if that’s what y’all try if y’all want to take it there he can take it there tonight and Bo just kept he just kept going and you know the Run game was continuing to have success but now Bo was starting to get into a little rhythm and now they calling some nasty plays they got him with a little you know play action fake you know hit the the you know fullback out of the back field and touchdown I’m like uh oh Sean’s starting to get deep in the bag now um and it felt like they’re not going to be able to stop him they’re going to have to keep matching them and the Chargers they couldn’t keep up they ended up selling for a field goal and then they were done and B went down three possessions three touchdowns it looked easy the Run game is killing them the pass game is killing them they haven’t stopped them on the third down yet I mean everything looks easy they’re getting six seven a pop on the ground when they decide to throw it he’s got all day there’s zero pressure on him he’s comfortable when he doesn’t like what he sees he’s tucking it and running and he’s getting 10 11 12 a pop this [ __ ] is too easy and then they’re showing the yards they’ve given up 240 on the ground and they’ve given up 270 through there and uh or vice versa and they’ve given up over 500 yards and you know 40 some odd points and I’m just like what happened to this damn defense that’s what I’m asking Jessy Min what happened bro you were just the number one scoring defense everything was all good just a week ago what happened and then Jesse said eff it after that third touchdown Jesse said eff it if we going to go down we going down blitzing and he started bringing them from everywhere you know Derwin James jir Taylor um Tully uh uh TPU he started bringing guys from all over the map and what it did was I mean Bo was still doing a good job at handling the blitz he was you know checking it down he would take off and run If he if he had space but what it was doing was it was forcing him to speed up his process and then Bo would be off balance sometimes and he start skipping some passes and he start missing some open receivers and so it got him out of there Rhythm they held a couple of times put them behind the sticks they still were converting La down in distances but eventually it caught up to them and they stopped having the success that they were having on those first three possessions and then the Chargers had an opportunity before the half to get back in the game like they’re down 2110 and here’s an opportunity because the Broncos get the ball to start the third quarter you’ve only stopped them one time that’s it they’ve had four first half possessions they scored touchdowns on three of them you just got your first stop against them you need to do something here to stem the tide because if they pick back up where they left off before the one stop you’re in trouble so you need something here preferably a touchdown but if you got to settle for a field goal so be it and Herbert’s taking him down the field and then he gets picked off by Chris Abrams drain the rookie out of zoo and I’m like damn that’s a that’s a hurt head right there so here was big turn of event number one in the game you’re pinned deep enough in your territory I I I understand wanting to take one opportunity to see if something could pop right nothing wrong with that I think that he had ran that interception out to like the 22 yard line or something like that no no harm in and just checking the temperature it was about 40 seconds left in the first half no nothing wrong with just checking the pulse right I think I think it was like 47 seconds left nothing wrong with checking the pulse and the temperature of can we go get something here or no right so they try a little screen not happening all right at that point Chargers they got all three of their timeouts they elect to call no timeout all right bet we up 2110 we get it out the half let’s just roll right let’s bounce for some inexplicable reason Shawn Payton decides n holes no they I think they ran it on first down he tries to throw the screen on second down and it’s incomplete or they try to throw a pass and it’s incomplete after that first down run ain’t popped it’s halftime bro what we doing he tries to throw a passes incomplete and harbar is like oh so you want to do it like that bet so they they try screen on third down the charger stop it Harbaugh Pops that time out Bop and I might have it backwards it might have been a screen on first down it didn’t work and then he tried another throw didn’t work and then he tried to run it on third down and hard ball I think it I think it was a run because Harbaugh was waiting on that run and soon as he Bop let me get that timeout with about eight seconds left and at that point if you’re Shawn Payton you screwed up because you shouldn’t be punting this football this shouldn’t be taking place he was conceding the end of the first half and once you didn’t get a sizable gain on first down you should have let it be but okay here we are right you’re punting the ball you should have told your punter that this ball is not returned period like I’m not talking about Fair caught or none of that and another thing you would like your Gunner to not run into the guy but he’s hustling he’s doing his job you can’t you know he got a little push in the backat but you can’t be mad at him you know you tell your punter this ball goes out of bounds that’s what you tell your punter like there’s no return on this I don’t want you shanking it but this ball either goes out of bounds or you kick this thing so high that he has no choice but to fair catch it and we go to half time somehow they run into the the uh punt returner fair you know kick catch interference um so now a rule that I’ve heard about at least 25 times in my life as a football fan I’ve heard it I’ve never I think I’ve seen it once actually attempted but they weren’t that close so I’ve never seen anyone no you know what I’ve never seen anybody attempt a kick a free kick I I’ve heard this 20 at least 25 times talked about I’ve never seen it done though because even his teammates were lined up almost like a kickoff it was weird because they can’t rush and you know normally when you kick a field goal because I’m looking at where he is and I’m like that’s still not he’s not gonna make like you might as well throw the hel he’s not gonna make this because in my mind I’m preconditioned as a fan to think well is he’s going to be back eight yards you know or 10 yards excuse me and you know the field goal post is or I have it backwards he’s going to be back eight yards and then the the field goal post the upright is 10 yards behind the end zone so I’m like he’s at the 47 bro this is a 65 he’s not making a 65 yard field goal and then they they like it’s a free kick he kicks it literally where the ball is so it’s 47 to 10 the eight doesn’t come into play here he doesn’t have to back up because you’re not facing a rush so you can kick it from right where it is you just take tackle on the 10 from where you know the goal post is it’s 57 yards Dicker the kicker can make that and then when you watch him kick it and you see the re that [ __ ] might have been good from 65 while you bullshitting but that’s another story for another day bottom line is the three points that they could have gotten if Herbert doesn’t throw the pick they got it back in the most unusual um damn near impossible fashion I’ve never seen that done before that was crazy and you know now I can say I’ve almost seen everything on the football field so check that off of my NFL bucket list of things to see Right add that to the list with the Doug fluty drop kick that I will probably never ever see again in my life right so it’s 2113 at half and Shawn pton is going into the locker room and you know Kaye Hartong catches up with him and she asks him about the second half you know how you had all this success in the first half offensively how do you keep it going and he’s like we got to be able to run the ball in the second half those were his exact words and he said we had great battles in the first half and we got to be able to run the football in the second half if we want to win this football game and I lie to you not I swear that the Broncos might not have had 40 yards rushing in the second half if you probably got to add in some bonick scrambles and I’m not even sure that you you still get 40 yards rushing in the second half this was after a first half where they dominated I’m guessing they had to have damn near 100 yards rushing in the first half if not more than a 100 yards rush in the first half and my guess is they didn’t even have 40 in the second half they could not run the football effectively and that put them and and then you know when they did have a good hit penalty holding right something calling it back so it was a struggle for them in the second half gotta credit to Chargers defense and I told you Jesse Mentor at the end of the first half he figured it out I’mma press your bow next I’m I’m a blitz on on run plays I’m a blitz on pass plays I don’t give a [ __ ] durren James is coming off the backside of these runs I’m blitzing on every single snap that I can I have to create chaos up front because just rushing for just playing you know defense with our normal front it ain’t getting it done we’re not creating enough you know negative plays hell we not even creating neutral plays they’re getting five and six and seven a pop and when B is dropping back there no pressure on them they did a Flea Flicker the the running back they did it with their receiver uh Mims I think this man ran like four yards up to the line of scrimmage and then toss it back and both still had about eight seconds to throw just couldn’t they just did a really good job of not falling for the banana and the tailpipe but like that was to me a microcosm of the the lack of pressure they were getting they couldn’t stop the run they couldn’t stop the pass and Jesse Min said all right bet if we going we goingon to keep getting our ass kick we gonna get our ass kick blitzing and being aggressive and it worked and they were able to get stops they drew holding penalties which put them behind the sticks which allowed them to get off the field because a lot of times even with the holding penalties it’d be second and 18 and they end up two three yards short of the first down four yards short of the first down hell one time Shawn Payton went for it and got it because they got a a nice Chunk on Third and long that got them into a position where they felt like they could go for it and they did and then they had another situation where they got close enough to go for it again on that same possession it ended up being fourth and three and Payton this time elected to kick the field goal take the points to get his field goal that he gave up right before the half back to make it 24-13 um and then they would not score again until that last field goal they kicked at the to give themselves a shot they would surrender 21 unanswered points in that process and you got to credit the Chargers offense for just staying the course because it wasn’t pretty and they went through a stretch there where they were struggling and it felt like the game was getting away from them but they stayed the course they hung in and U Herbert made some plays because the Run game really still was ineffective largely um and so they back in the game go for two I thought that was too early to go for two I think there was a little bit under four minutes to go in the third quarter when Harbaugh decided to go for two after the um the touchdown to um who scored that touchdown was that a running that might have been a Russian touchdown I felt like that was like Herbert threw it touchdown pass I think he threw a touchdown pass but um no Gus Edwards got in on a on a run there for a touchdown his second of the night and they went for two I thought it was a little a bit premature going for two there don’t chase points in the third quarter look you know this is not your last time scoring and I didn’t think it would be the Broncos last time scoring it almost was but there will be more points SC don’t chase points right now you’ll be back down here again but in his mind and this is what the analytics probably told him to do you go for two in that situation because four and five are are the same thing you know being down four or being down five it’s all the same you still need a touchdown versus being down three if you get the two-point conversion now you only need a field goal and analytics part jumps in there because if we miss this and they kick a field goal it’s the same ideology when you’re down 14 and you score a touchdown and on the first touchdown that you score to cut into the deficit you go for two because if you don’t get it you know you you you still have a chance to tie the game with a touchdown and a two-point conversion if you do get it now the next time you score a touchdown you kick the extra point you’re now leading in the game or you’re you win the game right it’s the same ideology if they kick a field goal guess what you can still score a touchdown two-point conversion when you tie the game so I I understood the math of it I just didn’t like the decision because of how much time was still left in the ball game and they didn’t get it and so they were down five and I thought that the next Turning Point came with the Broncos up 24 to 19 they went heavy play action fake and bonick dropped back and he had Marvin three to four yards behind the defense and he threw and one of the notum bonick coming out of Oregon doesn’t have the strongest arm in the world and he threw a moonball in the air that felt like it was up there [Music] [Applause] forever and could was it pass interference maybe but he didn’t do his receiver any favors by throwing the ball the way he did it was a horrible pass it was his worst pass of the night and it wasn’t close they he completes that pass first of all if he hits him and stride it’s a touchdown but forget about that if he completes the pass and he gets tackled they’re in field goal range but they’re probably going to score a touchdown the Chargers weren’t doing a very good job of stopping them once they got close to the end zone that was a big Miss in the game I thought it was one of the biggest reasons why they didn’t win the game but um the Chargers got the stop they went right back down the field again um ston smart is becoming a big factor on this team um lad makoni is he’s that dude like he’s legit and um they moved it right down the field Herbert did a great job of you know dispersing the football buying time using his legs when he had to got out of there a couple of times had a big scramble on the third down to um I was wondering how no Bronco Defender was able to at least threaten him from getting the first down on that one run well it was third and like 16 or third and 14 and then you saw the the um Endzone angle and the two Bronco Defenders run into each other knock each other on the ground and that’s how he’s able to get to the sticks turn you know and get up the field a little bit more past the sticks so uh Herbert was very resourceful using his legs when he had to he had another scramble where he broke two tackles and then got up the field and that was also I think on the third down so he was he was problematic with his legs um so they get in the end zone they take the lead they go for two they get it on crazy play where the ball’s tipped after Herbert makes a tremendous um you know play to uh Darius Davis just an incredible throw man like that’s that’s why he’s one of them ones right there um that’s an incredible play so you get the great play by Josh Palmer on the two-point conversion and he uh they take a three-point lead and uh the Broncos had their chances you know they had the ball again um but they just they they could not sustain offense and they couldn’t get out of their own way you know B Knicks made a good play uh I think he had a little scramble where he threw it backwards I think they called it the illegal forward pass I don’t think he needed to do that but I I understood what he was trying to do but caught holding anyway before any of that even took place so um they just couldn’t get out of their way they had a lot of penalties um they were off sides a couple times another big play and I left this out was the Herbert scramble he got hit by uh sternod on a on a slide on a third down where they would had to settle for a field goal and um I thought it was Ticky Tac I thought Herbert did a little bit of acting that was a good job on his part right because he slid it was a love tap you know his head wasn’t involved he really didn’t hit I don’t think he hit Justin in his head Justin goes back oh my God he stays down and he he stayed down a little bit longer for effect what you got to do if you want to sell it and he laid down like oh my God he just P he just hit me and then once he saw that flag he looked over he saw that flag he got up like all oh he got up slow like oh man he got me you know and we watched it live like he barely touched him you watch the replay he barely touched him but he did slide early and you know the contact was still made but that was a big play because that took a a three-point possession and turned it into a seven-point possession and I think It ultimately turned into a eight-point possession because I think they went for it um on I think that was the possession they went for it and got the two-point conversion as well might not have been that might have been the one before but still you took a possession that was going to end in three and gave it gave him a touchdown so that was huge then they had the Cooper you know penalty that was on I think a third down if it wasn’t a third down it would have brought up a third and long a super long and so that was big too they had a number of big penalties um did the Broncos defensively that helped out the Chargers in this game as well so that was another turning point there that sternod penalty but QJ had a drop and I was saying if they have to punt that down there uh cuz that would have made it third and like maybe four if he didn’t break a tackle cuz he looked like he was going to catch it get up the field a little bit but if they had to punt because they were deep in their own territory Chargers fans would have been on his ass pause but as it would happen as fate would have it Herbert was able to ex you know extend run the two Broncos players collide with each other he gets the first down and um the rest is history like six plays 90 you know four yards 96 yards whatever touchdown to um Hassan H Haskins to uh pretty much sealed the deal and uh what a turn of events in the second half this if if you turn the game off Midway through the second quarter you thought the Chargers were going to get blown out you would have never guessed that the Broncos would only score three more points the rest of the game you would have never guessed not after the first three possessions of this game you would have never guessed that they didn’t score 40 plus tonight with the way they were humming on offense and in the Inc capability at the time of the Chargers to get off the field especially on third Downs there was no way you thought that that the Broncos would only end up with 24 points at 21 points Midway through the second quarter which takes me to the Broncos big win for the Chargers man and they still you know the only bad thing to come out of this is they still don’t have a win in a game decided by three points or less which this game was at one point um and then they scored the touchdown and so um they’re still they still lost their last their last 11 games that have been decided by three points or less so that’s the only thing that sucked in this whole thing for the Chargers but they don’t give a [ __ ] they just wanted to win the game and they did um if you’re the Broncos look man you might be in some trouble here right like this was the one to get now your Saving Grace May ultimately be the Chiefs may not need week 18 right and with Mahomes dealing with an ankle it’s very realistic that they sit him um in that season finale especially if they don’t need it you don’t need that regular season finale um if they beat the Texans um well they have to win their next to in order to make week 18 IR relevant because they can’t finish tie with the bills so um they’re up two with two left so they could if they lose to the Texans they’re going to need that last game of the season no matter what unless Buffalo loses and I don’t see the bills losing too I think they play um some garbage team at home like somebody that we expect them to take care of business against so um that that’s what it could come down to because I don’t I don’t see you beating the Bengals I’m G be honest with you now their defense is still ass but um burrow is still cooking now the Broncos defense is the type of defense that would give him some problems but we’ll see I mean Cincinnati has the Browns that’s family business Anything could happen but the assumption is they going to win that game because they’re the only one nobody’s worried about Miami nobody’s worried about Indie those those Indie has the softest schedule though of any team but they’re capable of losing to anybody in their division they’re not good it’s it’s Cincinnati that you’re worried about because you play them next week if they beat you head tohe it’s it’s a very similar situation to what the commanders face right they’re they’re comfortably ahead right now but they play the team in week 17 that could ultimately be the team that bounces them because of the head-to-head matchup if they don’t take care of business and so um you got Bengals on the road Chiefs at home to finish up I see you losing both of those games and missing the Playoffs so um it’s not going to happen cuz ultimately I don’t trust Cincinnati so um we’ll see and I I I really don’t think the Chiefs are going to need that final game so you should be able to beat them at home theoretically speaking you should be able to beat Carson Wentz but I digress you had your opportunities in this game I’m I was shocked at how well you came out running the football you have not been a good Rush offense this season at all whatsoever which is why I didn’t think you would win the game and then for you to come out clicking on all s ERS on the ground um almost shocking that you didn’t continue to have success in the second half because the Chargers have really struggled to stop the run this season and you sort of reverted back to your inability to stop the run and that’s what ultimately hurt you because then you had to rely on Bo Knicks and not that he wasn’t capable Bo Knicks had a really good night 29 of 40 for 2632 touchdowns I don’t think he ever put the ball In Harm’s Way he had one third down where he tried to force it to v um and it got tipped in the air but he never put the ball In Harm’s Way tonight like I said the one play he probably would love to have back is the Miss to um Marvin Mims Jr he was so wide open and in this league I talk about this all the time what separates the good quarterbacks from the elite Elite quarterbacks is uh you know three or four different metrics and three or four different things but one of those items is the ability to hit the Deep ball when it is provided to you when the opportunity is provided because you don’t get those opportunities very often in this league it it it just most teams want to force you to be patient they want to play two high safeties they want to force you to do it over and over again force you to to make the right decision make the right play execute without making a mistake no holding penalty no bat at ball no negative play on first down on a two yard loss on a run and then a bat at ball on second down or drop pass and now it’s third and 12 like you got they force you to be patient because they’re not giving up the big play and when you get that opportunity when they finally come out of that two ey shell when you finally get you know a safety that’s being nosy and and and bites the the bait over the middle on a seam route or a deep over and you get that oneon-one up the sideline you can’t miss especially if they’re wide open and he missed and that was that was the dagger that was the one that was going to put the Chargers away if he hits that one and he missed that one hurt that one hurt bad but um the defense was very disappointing because even though the offense wasn’t generating any points the defense is supposed to be the Catalyst of that team and they didn’t Stand Tall they didn’t do the things that they needed to do to give the offense more opportunities they really failed them in the second half but it goes hand in hand because it felt like the Chargers dominated time of possession in the second half because the Broncos offense ly could not sustain offense you you know not necessarily going three and out but you get one first down then you punt now your defense is back on the field again and so that’s a bitter pill to swallow if you’re a Broncos fan because the opportunity was there you were dominating and you knew what lied ahead you knew that waiting around the corner are two teams that are very dangerous in the Cincinnati Bengals who are fighting for their playoff lives as we speak and the Kansas City Chiefs who you could have beaten earlier this season but you know good and well you don’t want to have to face the chiefs with the season on the line especially if they’re playing their players you could have avoided all of that if you would have won tonight you would have clinch a playoff birth and all of that would have been a moot point instead now you fighting for your playoff life so that is some interesting stuff to say the least um um bonick I just I just need to say this he played well tonight he played well used his legs um he was on time I thought he used the outlets the checkdowns the you know his fifth eligible a ton tonight guys would chip they would stay in delay release late and he would find them um he he never made I guess say never put the ball the Harm’s Way he had one miss I think they they still scored a touchdown on The Possession but he had the Miss of javante where he Kirk her street identified that correctly where he threw a 99 M hour fast ball when all he needed was a change up and Javonte probably walked into the end zone um they got away with a a penalty on a touchdown that shouldn’t have happened and who knows if they still score a touchdown but the football Gods always right or wrong right they got away with that so there was some get back later on in the game um both teams leave this game at nine and six both teams leave this game at n and six and don’t look now but the Cincinnati Bengals are right back in this thing that was the team they needed to lose if I know the Chargers were closer to the teams on the outside looking in with eight wins but they weren’t losing to both the Patriots and the Raiders to finish up it wasn’t happening you really wanted them to win because it’s more likely and more realistic that Denver loses their final two than it is the P the Chargers doing that so the outcome that the teams in the hunt at 6 and8 needed to have happen tonight Chargers would win the game I had them winning 2420 so my total was 44 they had the total at 41 and a half so um obviously the over was achieved the the Chargers almost hit the damn total by themselves with 34 points Broncos scored 27 so the total ended up being what 61 I believe that 71 excuse me um is 34 + 27 so no what is that 61 I think I had it right the first time 61 50 + 11 so 61 so uh obviously the the total was the over was smashed on that um I think when it’s all said and done and big shout out to bet us for providing us with these odds for this game tonight um I think both of these teams are gonna make it to the playoffs and I I was really fascinated by the matchups that they showed if the playoffs started today you would have had a 27 matchup of these Chargers and the bills that’s not a good matchup for the Chargers at all um and then in the 36 spot it would have been a rematch of week two’s contest um um Broncos and Steelers um that week two game featured no touchdowns by the Broncos they lost that game 13 to six that’s when Bo Knicks was still struggling with turnovers and making a bunch of mistakes and they lost their game 13- six at home so that would have been an interesting rematch because this is a totally different Denver Broncos team from the one that they saw in week two however we all know the Ravens are going to win that division no we don’t all know I believe the Ravens are going to win that Division and I think they’re goingon to make a statement on Saturday against the uh Steelers and come back and take that division from them but um that would have been an interesting matchup and then you would have had Ravens and um Texans if I’m Denver I want no parts of Baltimore played them earlier up at their place got my ass reamed pause if you’re the Denver Broncos you you would much rather see Pittsburgh they struggle to score and obviously that was the Justin Fields Edition they’re a different team now you’re a different team now but they still struggle to score so um you have a much better shot of beating them I think Baltimore would do exactly what they did last time which is put belt to ass so it’ll be interesting to see how all of this kind of shakes out but I think I’ve said this I’ve been I think I’ve been saying this for the last month at at a bare minimum three weeks we know the seven teams in the AFC I I don’t see Cincinnati coming back and getting in or Indianapolis for that matter Miami any of those six and eight teams you know running the table in conjunction with with an absolute collapse of any of the two teams that are currently in as wild cards um at the back end in the Chargers or the Broncos both of those teams are going to make the postseason we we know the seven teams we just don’t know the order in which they will um end the season going into the postseason that’s it for me like I’ll be shocked if one of the teams that’s currently out of the postseason somehow makes it in I’ll be shocked because again it it’s not just them finishing the season hot and you know winning three or four or five straight or whatever it would take obviously running the table here the final three weeks that’s not what’s going to be shocking to me what would be shocking is the other part of that equation which is the the other teams the Chargers and or the Broncos having to absolutely collapse five um but both teams look like they’re going to ultimately make the playoffs when it’s all said and done but again nothing’s etched in stone and and there’s still a lot of work to be done for both teams to get in and punch their ticket but um they’re kind of on the same trajectory and path so the whole success of the team element is removed from the equation and and when you strip that away now it’s just strictly numbers and the eye test I think we all feel like jayen Daniels passed the it test more so than Bo Knicks and I think the numbers will also kind of accompany that Bo Knicks coming into the game did not have 3,000 yards passing he just surpass that in this game jayen danels already had 3,000 yards passing and keep in mind he missed a game this season bonick has played in all 15 of his team’s contests jayen danels started all 15 of his team’s contest but he really didn’t play against Carolina he only played one possession so um there’s still some stats that might have been enhanced in a game against a team like Carolina where we ended up scoring 40 Jaden would have probably put up some massive numbers in that game so um even the statistics I think for the most part favor Jaden the rush yards um you know the the fewer amount of interceptions the completion percentage um the passing yards up until you know bonick played tonight jayen had more pass yards than he did the the passing touchdowns there’s not as big of a discrepancy there um Bo is leading in that category but not by much and then um you know it’s kind of evened out a little bit with Jaden’s Rush touchdown even though Bo has some Rush touchdowns like that’s not a you know a wide Gap like I think Jaden might have six or seven and Bo has like four or five so the number isn’t you know tremendously slanted in the favor of Jaden but when it’s all said and done it’s not a contest to me you would more so have a contest if you were to look at Brock Bowers more so than b Knicks at this efficient and effective which Russ was able to do but there weren’t any explosives in in the offense with Russ and you know again that Russ’s style doesn’t really match that of Shawn Peyton’s offense so it wasn’t a good marriage but he inherited Russ he didn’t want Russ he inherited Russ so um he did Russ real dirty it was but I will say Russ was whing Russ was out on that island whing you know when hacki was in town Russ was really running the show remember he had his personal crew and parking spots in the building like we we heard about all of the exploits exploits like it was it was some and you would prefer that but what my argument is the the consistency of running it the attempts are what are important for our offense as well I’m not telling you that that as a standalone is all we need to have are the attempts I’m just telling you that’s important there have been games this season I.E the Ravens where we abandoned the run because we didn’t think we could run and so you don’t stand a chance offensively when you don’t run the football you have to run there have been games this season Cincinnati is a great example we did not have success Austin Eckler had one big run for a touchdown in that game Jaden’s legs were the only source of rush yards in that game Brian Robinson had 15 carries for 31 yards in that game we struggled to run the ball but they did not stop running it and that led to Big Shot opportunities down the field because they had to respect the fact that we were still willing to run the football and that’s what I was referring to same thing happened in the Saints game we did not run it effectively but we kept running it and that’s why we kept getting opportunities down the field they blew one coverage but the other two they had to respect play action fake and that’s how we got those opportunities because we were running the football not effectively but it was the attempts and that is important for us we have to run the football and yes you end of a half like if you have a play that happens at the end of a half like we just saw uh and a penalty occurs so anytime you get a punt at the end of a half um and you have a penalty you get what is called an opportunity at a free kick so in these situations there’s no more time on the clock time is expired the half is officially is actually done but because a penalty happened on a fair catch opportunity now you get an opportunity to get a free kick so now they cannot Rush the kick so because they can’t rush the kick you now do not have to back up eight yards to attempt the field goal you can kick it right where it is so he Fair caught that football at the had to be at the 42 yard line and he was interfered with so fair fair catch interference is a 15 yard penalty so they tacked on the 15 yards from where the the infraction occurred which put it at the 47 so they had two options they could either attempt to play which would have been a Hail Mary um so that’s called the untimed down they would have got one untimed down cuz the clock had already expired but since the half can’t end on a penalty they would either got one untime down or a free kick right so they elected to go with the free kick normally you’re not in field goal range so you don’t elect to go for the free kick because if you’re if a penalty is committed while you’re on special teams nine times out of 10 you’re not in enough range even after a 15 yard penalty to kick a field goal right but it just so happen that that fair catch occurred in a in a spot where you tack on the 15 and all of a sudden you’re at the 47 yard line now you don’t have to back up the extra eight yards your kicker has a leg now you can attempt the field goal so that’s what they ultimately elected to do and so they kicked it from the 4 7 as I said it was only 57 yard field goal and he was able to make it so um it’s a rule that you rarely see take place because generally teams don’t allow you like how many times do you see a team call a timeout at the end of the half like that generally after a team tries that first play if it don’t pop guess what we both going to concede the half and we going to go to halftime let the clock run out I might take a knee and we both go to halftime or I might run it and then we both go to halftime but rarely do you see a scenario where you try play on first down the clock’s running both of y’all are cool with going to halftime then you decide all of a sudden nah you know what I don’t want to go to half time yet and you try some [ __ ] and then it don’t work and then you try to run it on third down so we can now now you like all right now let’s go to halftime and now the other coach like nah F that I was cool with going to halftime at first now you you don’t want to go to halftime now all of a sudden because your plays didn’t work you want to go to halftime now n I’m gonna bang this time out and make you punt it now you done messed up generally you don’t see this play in the NFL because usually both teams concede let’s just go to halftime but and Harbaugh was willing to do that until Payton got aggressive for no reason because they weren’t close and the first play didn’t work and he let the time run it would have been different if after I think the first day I was a scream and they got like four yards maybe four or five yards it would have been different if Payton would have banged the timeout bow okay all right they trying to do something but he just let the time tick down and then he ran another play and it was an incomplete pass that stopped the clock and so now Harbaugh is like oh you know what I’m gonna make you kick this now and so they ran on third down hoping Harbaugh would just let the clock run out and Harbaugh was like nah he banged the time out made them punt the ball and then you know the penalty happened they tacked on the 15 and when you get a penalty with an untimed down like that you have an option for a free kick they took the free kick because they were in a position to do so and they made it um we may never ever see that again you know never never ever the LA like you like like they said the last time it happened was 1976 so we may never see that again I’ve I’ve heard about this free kick I’ve seen penalties take place and a free kick opportunity present itself but nobody’s ever been in a position to actually take it they lock the coaches are locked in man like they want this one back they know that in order for us to get where we want to go we got to be able to beat teams like Philadelphia but more importantly I think they still pissed off from the last one they thought they should have beat Philadelphia last time and they got away and they so now they feel like with a full week and a healthy five we need to over John a junkie segment and now he does interviews oh okay got you because Jonathan Allen did used to do the interviews he was the one doing the season interviews with them so now that he got injured uh BR Rob took over got you br Rob said that he believes that they are the best better team in the junkies interview got you okay got you got you got you makes sense um I mean what is he supposed to say I I don’t know like was it unsolicited or did they ask him you know do you think you guys are a better team than the Eagles if they didn’t ask him and he just said that unsolicited then I mean yeah that could be perceived as disrespect but at the end of the day what is he supposed to say now I think they better than us but we on a rise though no I mean Who the hell’s gonna say that [ __ ] right um it’s not a big deal but it does speak to his confidence in the team and it and it can serve his bulletin board material it don’t take much for guys to get motivated you know so so yeah I I I actually like it I I I don’t hate it nobody likes the Eagles it’s good to know that the players don’t really that they like this whole you know I’m cool with the Buddy Buddy thing like I’m I don’t want them to manufacture hate for someone if you cool with somebody you cool with them but I don’t think there’s a ton of Love loss between the commanders and the Eagles and I think right now the Eagles are the most hated team in the division and that’s what happens when you win but their fan base makes it so incredibly easy for you to hate the Eagles I don’t like I don’t know how true the Michael Parson’s thing is but you know he’s got his own podcast so I wouldn’t put it past him to have said something like this but I saw somewhere on social media that he had said you know he’s not rooting for the Eagles even though the only way for the the Cowboys to make the playoffs is for the commanders to lose out um and them to win all the rest of their games and so he should theoretically speaking be rooting for the Eagles to win but he was like nah F that I ain’t rooting for the Eagles ever can’t stand them um I know the only way for us to get in is for the commanders to lose but I don’t care I rather the commanders beat them than them win the game I hate the Eagles that the I be seeing their fans talking trash on social media all the time he said I he I’m never rooting for them so and that’s and that’s coming from a dude that’s from Pennsylvania like Michael Parson’s I’m I shouldn’t say that I don’t know if he from Pennsylvania I think he’s from New York but not sure exactly where he’s from but he went to Penn State so I’ll leave it at that but um I’ve seen him at Eagles games and stuff like that I I’m not Eagles gam excuse me 76ers games stuff like that but he all over the place but I think he’s a Pennsylvania dude so even Michael parsons’s apparently has had some run-ins with some Eagles fans and he’s he’s hearing the noise he’s seeing the disrespect and all the trash they talk it’s easy to not like the eagles it’s easy to not like the eagles they make it very easy to not like them anyway I digress um but anyway we’ve hit our um we’ve hit our a lotted time tonight um big win for the Chargers I’ll be honest with you weren’t sure they were going to get it those first three possessions of the game defensively they looked awful looked like it was a continuation of last week’s second half against Tampa Bay where they couldn’t stop a fly right but they made some adjustments the biggest of them was blitzing B Knicks run blitz pass Blitz it didn’t matter they were they were bringing extra guys and it proved to be fruitful um got them out of their Rhythm they started to stop the run which was something that eluded them on the first three possessions of the game and were able to you know climb their way back into the game after falling down 21-10 scored 21 unanswered points and um ultimately held on and won the game 34- 27 both teams leave the game at 9- six Chargers advaned to 9- six um Broncos dropped to n and six and you know both teams are still in great position to make the postseason both teams are two and a half games clear of the next you know three teams in the conference so they’re still in great shape but but understand that all it takes is one and if you’re Denver you playing great football right now but you just lost all it takes is one loss to send you spiraling out of control so um I still think both of these teams are gonna make the playoffs when it’s all said and done I think we I think we watched two playoff teams tonight but the Broncos clearly have the tough tougher Road of the two teams especially if the Chiefs needed in week 18 so big loss by them had a chance to clinch a playoff birth tonight now they got to try and do that next week against a very dangerous and live Cincinnati Bengals team and if the Bengals beat the Browns this week and improve the seven and eight you’re going to get a Bengals team that is believing that we still got a legitimate shot at making the playoffs and in order to do that we got to beat the team that we’re playing at home next week in the Denver Broncos so you could end up getting a uh Bengals team that is locked in and giving you everything they’ve got so missed opportunity for Denver big big win for the Chargers uh they feel like a lot to make the postseason now not that they didn’t before but you know eight with coming off of you know a loss and if this would have been a second straight loss this would have made them Losers of three out of their last four they were definitely struggling you could make the case that they were about to do the charger thing and literally implode but coming back and winning the game tonight in the fashion that they did made a statement and um I think this Chargers team um if they play the way they did tonight on offense they they have a shot especially in the second half but give a quick shout out to
