[Applause] hello everybody and welcome to the devil’s digest postgame show following Arizona State’s 49-7 victory over U OFA in the territorial cup here in Tucson Arizona State finishes the regular season at 10-2 7-2 in conference as always my name is Justin lerosa that’s publisher hod orbino and hod as of this recording we’re still not sure if Arizona state will be advancing to the Big 12 Championship yet there’s still a couple factors and a couple games that have to play out before we really fully realize what that game’s going to look like but regardless of huge win bringing that territorial cup back to Temp B and 10 and two season who would have thought yeah I think after the bit the bitter loss that that Arizona State suffered uh last last year in TP I mean sure the big 12 title game was on everybody’s mind I mean there’s really no way around that but uh you know in the meantime just to just to get that territorial cup back home to see the joy of the players of the coaches Kenny Dillingham and AC alumnus you can uh bet you know what that bringing back the cup means just a little bit uh more uh when when when your head coach actually got a a diploma from Arizona State and uh I think it’s just really a testament to to this team that uh was was able to play with the passion but not let the emotion uh uh take over um I think the crowd over here at Arizona stadium was really kind of subdued even when the game started so maybe it was uh easy not to encounter that uh that hostile environment but I think Arizona State not only wanted to win this game they really wanted to make a statement um I thought that uh maybe they might we see a repeat of the 70 to7 win that we saw over here in in 2020 uh was wasn’t quite that a little bit of let down in the second half offensively but um but nonetheless uh it was an incredible performance by Arizona State this was the biggest game um of the year and for them to play as well as as well as they did and deliver the way they did it was definitely impressive yeah and we talked about in our preview that this Arizona State team sometimes struggles to keep their foot on the gas offensively and keep the points coming in bunches but we saw tonight against U OFA 49 points the offense really didn’t seem to slow down even though it did a little bit in the second half um still a couple of big scores what’ you like at A’s offense yeah honestly you know when you go up 35 nothing at halftime I think there only so much you can expect to see uh from the offense in in the second half but what an absolute uh to T to force big game means that big players do show up uh you know for that occasion and uh by halftime cam scadu already had 100 yards uh rushing by halftime Jordan Tyson already had 100 yards receiving uh so I mean that that just gives you an idea of what this offense was able to do I mean almost scored on each and every each and every possession I mean the the numbers for the offense at the end are just extremely extremely impressive as you would expect quarterback Sam levit a 77 completion percentage 17 out of 22 291 yards uh three touchdowns uh no no interceptions cam scabo finishes with 21 carries for 177 yards averaging over eight yards a carry actually almost eight and a half yards a carry and Jordan Tyson um eight receptions of 143 yards so like I said Jordan uh Camas scabo scored three touchdowns Jordan Tyson scored one touchdown the damper of this win is obviously uh we don’t know the extent of the Jordan Tyson uh in injury that he did suffer in in the second half it looked like a a collone injury he was uh came out of locker room with a sling on on his left arm he he was reportedly uh in good spirits but if Arizona state has a game uh this coming Saturday with Arizona State uh next game is going to be sometime in the month of December I would say this availability is very very uh up up in the air right now but uh but nonetheless I mean just a great a great game for this offense obviously the feeli go the the Feelgood story of this game is uh Tren bgay uh the backup quarterback who grew up uh just 20 miles uh from here in in Morana a lot of people were hoping that that he was going to play and and there was going to be a blowout it was only going to be the only scenario that Tren Bor gay was probably going to see the field he see this he sees the field and boy does he make a statement with a 64 yard uh uh touchdown pass to Derek isubo a player that uh Justin and I saw a lot in full Camp uh you know really be one of the standouts wasn’t able really to crack the rotation once the season started so for him uh to have a game that he’s not going to forget for a long long time was just really I guess uh the icing on the cake on a big big win uh just just an incredible incredible uh job by the offense iiss if I didn’t mention the long uh touchdown pass from Sam Lev to Xavier gillery on Fourth and eighth no no no less and it looks Gill really has carved that niche in the last couple games that if you need uh just a touchdown bomb down the field then he even he is definitely your guy so uh definitely uh a big big uh game for the offense like I said the the wet blanket portion of this statement is uh let’s see how life without Jordan Tyson looks like because I think his availability like I said if the for the Big 12 uh title game is very very much in question so I’m curious to see which of the wide receivers is going to step up when needed yeah although Arizona’s offense has struggled All Season we talked about in our preview you got to slow down that tandem of faf and McMillan and that was a QB wide receiver connection that really couldn’t get it going yeah I think uh that the ASU defense did really did a a great job not only FID to uh throw off throw off platform not really uh have him get get out of the pocket and uh when you have a smaller stature signal caller like faf and really contain between the tackles that makes it really really hard for him to to make any any plays yes McMillan scored uh the the only the only points uh for Arizona uh tonight today but I think that uh you know if if there only seven points on the board uh that’s something that the Arizona State Defense can live uh you know uh quite well with I mean ultimately this was an Arizona team that really they really struggled all year I thought they might play just a little better just because it was the terar troler cup game but uh I think uh when you come to uh this point of the Season uh you really are what you are as far as an offense as far as a defense for that matter and uh Arizona again is a team that really struggled quite a bit on this side of the ball so uh uh today was no different but I was happy to see the defense really really really not letting up and really uh and really making sure that uh this win would be as convincing as possible no it wasn’t a 70 to7 win but I don’t think it’s really the defense has fa uh that much so I’m really really impressed by the defense I also like the fact that a lot of freshman saw extended playing time U Martel Hughes uh who burned his red shirt weeks and weeks ago uh some big plays uh Rod Rodney bimage uh the the true freshman defensive back um came in had um at three tackles all solo so it was also fun to see uh the young players get get some serious playing time compared to earlier in the year and really really really able to deliver uh the Stephie was one of the better uh defensive performance we saw yes it was an Arizona offense that struggled all year but when you have a quarterback and a wide receiver like FID McMillan uh you never know uh what you know what will happen in that case and I think the defense does absolutely shut them down ear early in offense so kudos to that suble unit and as we just mentioned we’re not fully sure yet if Arizona state is going to be advaned to the Big 12 Championship but one thing’s for sure and Kenny Dillingham said this before the game we can only control what we can control and they got the win 10 and two on the season highly successful and overachieving year for Arizona State what did you see out of ASU throughout the season holistically yeah Ken Kenny Dillingham said that this is a season he’s not going to forget for a long long time and maybe kind half admittedly said I don’t know if I can really repeat uh you know such a turnaround having uh three wins uh one season and uh and seven seven win Improvement the next season and obvious obviously get anying up hopes that they’ll never have a three- win season at all in in his tenure at Arizona State no matter how many years or decades it it really is going to span but uh I think it’s this there really two things that uh this coaching staff has done great first of all is a is Talent evaluation um you know you can bring transfer portal auditions by the bus load and really you look at the numbers that’s what Arizona did more or less but I just really feel there was so many more bulls eyes and whiffs on the transer portal players transer portal players that they brought not only this year but but last year and that really helps when you have just a massive roster turnover as a a new coaching staff and the and and the second one and I know we talked about it a lot is just the team culture that Kenny dingan was able to ingrain uh with with this team um it’s not only that you have great players from is a nose perspective but you have just players that do have the personality that that that is conducive for success and I think in this very cynical college football world uh when nil is all the talk when trans Porto is all the talk uh sometimes um having uh players that can be just as good uh from the neck up as they are from the neck down is uh I’m not going to say Mission Impossible but sometimes it’s really uh much harder to uh to gain uh those those type of players and again I think this Arizona state has done an excellent job uh getting getting the R players not only uh physically but also culturally so I think that uh you know whatever you’re seeing right now is just the fruits of the labor of Kenny Dillingham and the coaching staff and all the hard work that they put in I don’t think anybody expected the turnaround to be this Swift I don’t think anybody expected the turn around to be this dramatic but obviously uh you’re definitely going to take it and not and not look back as Drake once said started from the bottom now we’re here you have a team again blows my mind to even say it again that was predicted to finish dead last 16th in the media preseason poll and is all but assured now a spot in the Big 12 title game uh this is the type of turnaround Justin I don’t think we’re going to see in a long time not from ASU not from any team out there so I think a a lot of Kudos do go to the coaches and do go to the players and The Season’s not over that’s really that’s really the beauty of all this I mean I think a 49 to7 win and ASU maybe uh just makes it to makes it B eligible just makes it the 7 eight wins would still be quite uh quite a reason to be joyous but now to to know that this win has all but assured you a spot in the Big 12 title game that is just major major icing on the cake so kudos to the sunev well hold one thing for sure if Arizona State’s going to
