hey Dan coach milillo here for NorCal Sports Network with another video this time it’s on Michael conforto signing with the LA Dodgers on a one-year $17 million contract before we get into this let me Dodgers I like this move for the LA Dodgers if you’re a Dodger fan you should be thrilled because you’re getting a ball player who was misused badly in San Francisco and that platoon system that they employed under Farhan zi was a disaster for Michael conforto he came off a really good career in New York he came off some soul shoulder surgery and in the 23 season it took him a while to get going last year Michael conforto actually had some reverse splits for the first time in his career he actually hit 284 off left-handed pitching last year while only hitting 225 off righties but when you’re in a lineup and you’re pressing because it’s your turn to play because you get to face you know the righty is your turn I think that just messes up with players psyche a lot they don’t perform then they get benched and he always was benched against lefties and then he when he was in he had 106 plate appearances last year hit 284 had six home runs off lefties Michael conforto 20 home runs last year for the San Francisco Giants only three at Oracle Park 17 home runs on the road what does that tell you that tells you he will hit a lot more more in LA because Oracle Park in triples alley that’s where balls go to die as a long out many occasions so I think the Dodgers as they did with martinez a couple years ago getting him back in and becoming an Allstar and then last year teoscar Hernandez on a one-year deal this year it’s Michael conforto so what does that mean does he play every day it’ll remain to be seen depends on if the Dodgers signed teoscar Hernandez now I look at this deal as kind of insurance and I think it’s a really big move for the Dodgers in this sense it gives them more Outfield depth with mooki Betts moving into the infield and it gives them depth and insurance in case they’re not able to get teoscar signed but you put Michael conforto in this lineup with guys like Otani Betts Freeman Will Smith Max munzy there’s so much more protection than there ever was for him in San Francisco and the Dodgers have a way of making players better and you’re getting a great guy too you really are La fans you’re getting a great guy I interviewed Michael conforto down in spring training on the ball field in 23 and just a downto earth guy a really really good guy I just can’t recommend his character enough and I know and it’s one of the things the Dodgers do they get High character players and they gel together and you end up getting the best performance out of these guys I would anticipate Michael conforto if he hit 20 home runs last year for the San Francisco Giants in an offense that was pretty weak in a ballpark that’s difficult to hit home runs in hit 17 Again on the road of his 20 I think Michael conforto easily hits 25 home runs in the 25 season we took a look at conforto’s career Michael conforto as a career has an 804 Ops 804 guys that’s pretty good take a look at it there his career Ops 804 last year 759 is respectable he’s got a good Ops plus 120 as a career 116 last year how much better will he do surrounded by a group of Hall of Famers I mean this is a this is a guy that’s entering his he’ll be 32 entering in next season he’s currently 31 I believe he turns 32 in January if I’m not mistaken going into next year yeah no March March 1st so right during spring training he will turn 32 so he will be 32 all of next year I think conforto on a one-year deal this is a really really good deal for the LA Dodgers a lot of people the Giants didn’t care Giants fans but they didn’t understand conforto’s value he was misused badly by the Giants because the Giants didn’t allow players to just play was constant platooning take a look at Michael conforto here when we look at his baseball Savant okay I want you to look at those numbers and you see the red is where you want to be look at his Barrel rate 80% his hard hit percentage he’s at uh he’s he scores at 77 percentile he is bat speed 82 his K percentage isn’t great he’s at 24.2% but if you look at a player like let me show you another player who’s going to get paid handsomely very soon in free agency remember one year 17 million take a look at the hard hit rate take a look at the barrel rate take a look at the average exit velocity and the xwoba and xba look at those all those numbers in red and then let’s compare that with another player here let me pull this one up for you guys and I will pull up this ball player who’s about to get paid really nicely Anthony sandoor lower Barrel percentage hard hit rates less sweet spots less bat speed 69 compared to 82 squared up is a lot less so better he didn’t strike out as much as conforto but conforto look at the xwoba numbers all those top numbers pretty much much better for Michael conforto than Anthony sandor their Barrel rates are pretty pretty equal 80 80 score to 80 for conforto 79 for sandor sandor’s Barrel rate 11.7% Michael conforto 11.8 so virtually the same but look at these ball players guys the difference is sandoor is a switch so the Giants did not allow conforto to face too many lefties last year even though he hit 284 against them in just over 100 plate appearances that tells me that maybe he’s starting to improve a little bit that area of the game we’ll see but I definitely think Michael conforto is an excellent signing for the LA Dodgers he will be utilized correctly there and he will help the Dodgers he will be you know look teoscar Hernandez made an All-Star team last year right and then you U look at what uh they were able to do for Martinez in 203 season made the All-Star team and brought him back to life and he was excellent for the the Dodgers the Dodgers have a way of correcting some of these guys and making them a much better hitter and it doesn’t hurt at all to have be surrounded by all those other great hitters in the lineup so I really think this is a big plus for the LA Dodgers you tell me what you think about this signing let me
