[Music] what is up everybody welcome into the back to 12 podcast I am RC Maxfield and we’ve got a lot to discuss about Texas Tech football as the portal is on fire not just for your Red Raiders but just across the country as more players are in the portal than ever this is probably a theme we will see moving forward since there are no guard rails for the portal but for the Red Raiders so far so good we’ll discuss the two previous commitments in Hunters and brono as well as Cole wisnowski and then also there was a commitment today from another DB in the portal we’ll discuss him and his skill set as well as look at some well guys they’re going to be on campus this week and there’s actually a guy on campus right now including another DB but we will discuss two players in particular that will be scheduled to be on campus this week that I think could be instant impact players for the Red Raiders if they can land them out of the portal but before we get into anything like that all I ask and that was of Dante balfor from UNC Charlotte um db62 actually started his collegiate career at UNC and was a fourstar DB um when he committed to the Tar Heels also how about the Tar Heels huh getting Bill bellich let me know your thoughts in the in the comments on that because that’s absolutely insane to me um I digress a little bit but um he played two years in Chapel Hill did balour before transferring to UNC Charlotte while at UNCC Charlotte Bal for became the program leader in career year pass breakups with 18 He also had a program record in pass breakups in 2024 with 11 he is a long rangey DB that totaled 49 tackles and two interceptions this season to go along with those 11 pass breakups and he isn’t afraid to get involved in the play you know there’s sometimes where you see some of these DBS and I’m not going to call out any names but you know who I’m talking about that are kind of afraid to get involved in tackling let’s just say um and he is not one of those guys he is afraid to go down and be impactful in the Run game but he’s long wiry not the you know biggest guy in terms of weight but he makes an impact on the outside with his length again 62 little under 200 pounds but he is a guy that has been proven to when the ball is in the air he can go and get it and really impact plays on the outside or even across the middle as well and I really like his vertical speed that’s one thing that stands out to me along with his obvious length at 6’2 and he has really good ball skills as well so is he a guy that comes in and starts right away for the Red Raiders I I think there’s a chance for it he’s obviously got one year of Eligibility remaining he is a guy that has proven that he can make plays on the outside I think he’s going to be firmly in the mix to potentially come in and start on the outside and remember you’re trying to replace a guy in brillan Lux who was your best DB yes he was a roller coaster but let’s be real he was your best DB this season and now you’re trying to find different ways and you know creative ways to go out and really impact the secondary that if we’re being honest about it Red Raider Nation it was it was pretty shitty right like their secondary was not good um this season so um going out there and finding long rangey DBS has been the plan if you look at the guys that they have targeted in the portal so far outside of a Caleb Weaver from Sam Houston State who was already on his visit he’s more of a rabbit type guy they have gone after long rangey DBS that can make impacts and not well be afraid to come in and help in the Run game as well so he fits the mold does Dante bfor um he is a guy that I’m very very interested to see and again he is lengthy he’s a proven contributor um and he’s a vet and that’s something you need in the secondary where really if you think about it you add a guy like Cole wineski as well um you got two vets back there now because you’re going to have some younger guys now some of those younger guys have played um some snaps but you think about it you’re replacing guys out there in terms of the brilin Lux the CJ Baskerville of the world like you are going to need some vets back there starting in the secondary for the Red Raiders or at the bare minimum be debt pieces and these two guys Belfor and wisnowski um definitely fit the mold there so I think so far so good in terms of what Texas Tech has done in the portal again there’s going to be some people that are upset in these smaller schools um and everything like that I I I don’t get it um you know if you’re a part of the aspect of production over potential I mean I don’t think you can have any qualms with what Texas Tech has done so far in the portal um Landing a guy like Hunter and BR who by a lot of estimations I mean shoot uh 247 Sports had him ranked as the number one offensive tackle currently in the portal and the Red Raiders landed him just a couple of days ago was neski is part of an North Dakota State program where albeit he didn’t play in 2024 but he had 92 tackles and a program record at least tied the program record there for the Bison of eight interceptions in 2023 he should be fully healthy coming off of a foot injury right same was Zan bro who only played two games in 2024 but he should be good to go um from the jump in 2025 and who knows where he plays Zan brono as I’m kind of going all over the place there right but who knows where he plays on the offensive line I would love to see him get an opportunity at left tackle because I think he’s good enough does he end up at Right Guard potentially but you feel good about three of your players on the offensive line albeit two are coming back from injury you have Vinnie Scurry Sheridan Wilson and then hunters and brono that is a good nucleus and foundation for your offensive line headed into 2025 and they’re not done yet are the Red Raiders you got to think about this they’re in the running for a five-star offensive lineman in the class of 2025 and Denton Ryan Tai Haywood right you’re also going to be in the mix for other offensive lineman in the portal since really a lot of your guys went portaling including D Ty Buchanan Dalton maryman and others as well so when you look at everything I think Texas Tech has done a solid job in terms of adding guys that can come in and fit certain needs and fit certain skill sets that the Red Raiders needed including length and including instant impact on the offensive line and hunters and brono um and they’re not done yet we’ll we’ll talk about more guys here in a minute in terms of that are set to have visits does that mean they’re going to have visits hell if I know it’s the portal Everything Changes in the blink of an eye but as it stands right now at the time of this recording which is uh Thursday December 12th at about 6:20 might have heard the misses coming in to uh the house here but um listen hey there’s a lot going on right so if you want he won’t make it more than two years college kids have no power than NFL players do I have no idea who you’re talking about I have no idea who you’re talking talking about right there I’m just being honest um let’s see um don’t care just name m in that festar tackle big boy football to the SEC schools cry that’s weird Lucas you also have to have other positions on the field um I’m just saying I think these are solid quality pickups um by Texas Tech so far yeah I would love um media as well but I mean he’s going to visit Arkansas does he come to Texas Tech I don’t know um but yeah I mean you would love to have the five-star offensive tackle but other positions matter too um to say you don’t care as interesting in my decision or in my opinion um Tulsa Oklahoma we’ve got Devonte saying hey what’s up RC we got Nashville Tennessee in the house shout out to the Titans even though they are ass um this season I am a Titans fan uh Sebastian ask how about the receiver room for Tech we’ll talk about a receiver that stands out in his scheduled to have an official visit later this week it will be between Oklahoma Nebraska and Texas Tech for that said wide receiver um but there we go oh Jared sorry great point I forgot I mentioned bill bich it’s been a long day at work but I want to talk Tech football with you guys good call I I I think he’ll make it more than two years I think he will I think he’ll go all three and then that’ll probably be it and then his son will take over or something like that hell if I know um it was an interesting hire though it it made little to no sense to me but um again what the hell do I know you know what I mean uh it was just a weird hire by North Carolina all right I do want to jump in before we get to the Q&A and everything like that lay of the land on guys that we know are going to be on campus or at least scheduled to be on campus this week okay we already know Caleb Weaver the Sam Houston State transfer was on campus he obviously had Hunter and brono on campus you also had uh CW from North Dakota State on campus and then you also obviously had um Dante balfor excuse me on campus as well and he committed while on campus um overall here are the guys that we know okay that will be on campus or are scheduled to be out in the 806 we know this one for sure jacobe Henderson the Marshall DB 62 long rangey Corner he’s actually on campus right now uh for the Red Raiders one of the guys we’re going to talk about more in depth here in a second who I think the Red Raiders have to be hyper aggressive on um is scheduled to be on campus tomorrow that is Skyler Gil Howard from Northern Illinois um the DT he is scheduled to be on campus tomorrow you got cassim Moore from Elon The Edge he’s getting a ton of run from a lot of power for programs he’s scheduled to be on campus here in the not too distant future again he’s former teammates with well John Carlos Müller I third the tight end for the red rders who signed from Elon last year to where the Scarlet in Black Amir Boyd Matthews the UTEP DB another long rangey DB um he’s scheduled to be on campus from the 15th to the 16th and then you’ve got naiah Hunter another guy we’re gonna talk about here in a second because that guy that boy good okay I had to watch some tape on him to see if like the hype that I was feeling for him in terms of hearing that he had a potential chance um to come to Tech was it legit or not we we we GNA have to have a conversation about NH real quick I mean he Hunter he he might be one of them ones okay um heard we lost out on uh Pounders any word why I think it’s because you got Zam brono more than anything Jared I think that that’s the big reason why he’s also getting a lot of run from power for programs as well but I think you got Zan brono and that just kind of uh you know deterred Pounders from being in a way and to be honest with you I’d much rather have zamb brono than Pounders if he had to pick um but let’s jump into two players that I mentioned that we know will be on campus this week okay two guys that I think Texas Tech um I don’t know necessarily has to get but I think would be impact editions and be instant starters and really stalwarts in their position groups okay and we’re gonna start on defense Skyler Gil Howard okay I know what people have been saying you know in the sense of why is Texas Tech only really going after these small school guys we need to go after guys from Georgia we need to go after guys from Bama right like okay every team in the country wants to go after those guys right part of college football and finding sustained success is your evaluation process right you build from the high school ranks and you go in and you fill those holes and maybe those misses that you had in the high school ranks with the portal that’s what the Red Raiders have done here and what was one of the biggest misses last year for Texas Tech simple and plain they missed on a lot of those DTS okay they did not have an answer and part of that was due to injury right you had damus sometimes Quincy leet others as well but you missed on some of those guys in the portal from the dline perspective okay because you didn’t have somebody to replace Hutchings you didn’t have somebody to replace the mayor and Tony Bradford right so you have to go out in this portal cycle and be hyper aggressive on key impact potential guys I think Skyler Gil Howard is one of those guys from Northern Illinois okay he’s 61285 do those measurables wow you hell no they don’t but I encourage you highly encourage you go put on the tape okay go put on the tape most notably the tape against Notre d game when the Huskies went up to South Bend and just beat the golden domers okay they beat them and one of the guys that stood out the most on tape in that game is Skyler Gil Howard okay he absolutely dominated a Notre Dame offensive line specifically the interior he owned the trenches in the inside of that line for Notre Dame he controlled the narrative for Notre Dame and really impacted their ability to run the footall football again is he the biggest guy in the world no we just said he’s 61285 but PFF graded him out as the number 11 defensive tackle in the country this year okay in the FBS he ranked out and graded out at an 83.4 am I saying that you need to take you know pff’s grade as the gospel no I’m not but I again encourage you go turn on the tape this is a guy that could come in day one and be an instant impact player in the Big 12 and be an absolute anchor in the trenches for that Texas Tech defensive line okay he had 51 total tackles five sacks and eight tackles for loss in 2024 he was an all Mac third team again that’s not cool you know what I mean go watch the tape okay and I wish I could show some of you it here on this but YouTube is finy was showing tape sometimes and it just has a potential chance to take away the channel from me and I’m not going to do that CU I want to keep talking to you guys but he is a guy that is an absolute Bonafide star and in my estimation when I watch him and again there will be multiple other players that go into the portal because they have about till December it’s about 30 days the Portal’s open so really about early January late December something like that in terms of entering that doesn’t mean they have to be committed by that time just in the portal there will be multiple other high quality defensive linemen in the portal but as stands right now on December 12th Skyler Gil Howard is easily in my estimation a top five defensive lineman in the portal okay again his measurables are not going to wow you he’s 61285 but damn it he knows how to play The Leverage game and get under these offensive linemen and just really move them around like it’s a ragd doll type situation he may be 285 but I guarantee you that man squats you know what I’m saying he squats okay he has tree trunk for legs he moves offensive lineman with ease and he’s also got finesse game as well but the best part about his game in my opinion is the fact that he doesn’t try and do too much he understands his assignment and what was one of the biggest issues for the Red Raiders in the Run game this year staying in their damn run Lanes this guy understands football he has a high football IQ he understands leverage understands he’s not the biggest guy in the world but he knows knows how to get to the quarterback right in front of his face and set an edge if need be but most importantly where do QBs feel the most pressure in terms of making mistakes when the pressure comes right at them and Skyler Gil Howard has a tendency to do that at an elite level a very high level again number 11 player at the DT spot in all of college football according to Pro Football Focus right there right like PFF like this is one of them once you got to go get this guy in my opinion in terms of this is a game Cher on the defensive line and I think really impacts your ability to see those guys like a harvey Dyson have an impact next year you know the Spencers of the world the Isaac Smith this is a guy that helps you solidify the interior and then there’s a domino effect outwards in terms of the edge rushers being productive he’s that type of player in my opinion and a guy that will be on campus um later on again I highly encourage you to go watch his film against Notre Dame um it got me excited I’ll just say that it got me excited uh watching him um he he’s a true impact guy in my opinion all right before we get into uh discussing hunter from Cal and a red shirt freshman wide receiver going into his red shirt sophomore season be sure to like the video there’s about 85 people in here we only got about 20 likes be sure to like says 247 rates Z brono the level with Hudson yeah no I mean again I there is risk I don’t want to say that he is a for sure home run you know all Big 12 type offensive lineman hunters and brono right because he is coming off of injury but he is a guy oh let me put it this way to you Jacob Rodriguez was likely to be a fifth to seventh round pick in the NFL draft how do you feel about Jacob Rodriguez in terms of we understand you know all Big 12 First Team defense all that kind of stuff right like we get that okay but he was graded out like that right and we know how you feel about Jacob Rodriguez granted different position I understand that you understand that it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to say you know linebacker is different from offensive linemen we get it but hunter Z brono was in the same range in terms of draft grates as Jacob Rodriguez that five to seven range you’re talking about a legit NFL offensive lineman and if we’re being completely honest about it how many Bonafide for sure NFL offensive line prospects as Texas Tech had in the past two years I’ll give you a second and you only need a second because the answer is zero right zero and we’re just being real about it right like Caleb Rogers is the closest thing and no disrespect to him I think he can play on Sundays but it’s not a for sure thing I think think that when you look at zamb brono and what he brings to getting 65 305 quick as Lightning off the snap I think he can play left tackle at the P4 level will he I think they have to give him a shot but I’m not sure he will he move may move inside to Right Guard but he’s versatile right worst case scenario he’s your starting Right Guard okay and you feel really good about the interior of your offensive line with Vinnie Scurry coming back zamb brono at Right Guard Scurry at left guard and then and Sheridan Wilson in the middle that’s a pretty damn good interior you got to figure out the tackles because woof right now right like woof um but I feel good about him and then you add two guys that are veterans into the secondary obviously CW from North Dakota State again eight interceptions I don’t care what level of football you’re playing eight interceptions is impressive let alone at the FCS level where you are the best team in that division of football year in and year out north North Dakota State could be a ton and I mean a ton of FBS teams don’t get that twisted and he was arguably their best defender in 20123 right and then you bring in Bal for a guy that is proven to be a playmaker on the outside has length has good vertical speed quick twitch on the outside and can guard the best wide receiver on the other team I I like what Texas Tech is doing so far do I want them to go out and land other guys obviously I mean they they have probably about eight or nine more guys they can land in the portal I mean there’s some guys that I really want I mean there there’s a couple guys I just saw somebody ask in the chat about one of them there there’s a couple guys I really want okay um will they get them hell if I know the portal changes every damn minute it seems like but I think Texas Tech is in a really really good spot um and I think they’ve done a really solid job like right now so far against Zan brono if you go look at really any portal rankings at worst he is the four fourth offensive tackle in the portal I I don’t know what else you want from Texas Tech at that point right like that’s a hell of an ad okay and then you go look at CW he was getting offers left and right from high major P4 conferences including you know Wisconsin Iowa so on and so forth and then you’ve got balfor who was also getting high major offers from SEC ACC schools but he lands at Texas Tech okay I’m not saying these guys are going to be all Big 12 first teams guys but they’ve done a really good job at pinpointing needs and they’ve done so at an aggressive rate so far and again good stuff from Texas Tech they’re not finished yet but um really really good start RC what do you think about Conor wigman going to Houston it’s fine I don’t know I mean I I think he’s a solid player I mean can he stay healthy um I I like him at with Fritz I think that they might get the most out of him but I don’t know I don’t really feel any type of way I thought I was like okay good for Connor to stay home um and go back to Houston where I believe he’s originally from so um makes sense good pickup for Houston though no debating that but it doesn’t really I think move the needle they need far more than just a solid quarterback to change their fortunes down there that’s that’s a rebuild for Coach Fritz um any chatter on Prince Will no I haven’t heard any um the last I heard there was like six teams involved that were showing him interest um let me go double check see see if there’s been anything um oh that’s interesting though real quick um sounds like Seth Dey is going to be the new offensive coordinator at Arizona so there you go that’s interesting um former Red Raider obviously look let me look up those teams for princewell real quick because he he’s a guy I really want I I think he’s a guy that does have all Big 12 type potential um and we’ll talk about it here in a second um in terms of like a guy that I think is really really good um from the standpoint of Texas Tech will have him on campus so the teams for princewell are Old Miss I probably think they’re the favorite I believe that’s where his brother plays currently uh but they did just land an LSU transfer correct me if I’m wrong there chat um I believe that they landed an LSU transfer today that would be at the same position maybe they need multiple I don’t know uh but Texas Tech was one of the six teams that was mentioned according to on three um alongside Old Miss Auburn A&M LSU in Florida State um he is visiting Old Miss today and tomorrow then A&M after that it would not Shock me if we hear about him heading out to Texas Tech if he does if he doesn’t commit to one of those two schools that he’s visiting right away um it would not Shock me at all if he takes a visit out to the 806 as well um he he he’s he’s one of them ones right there he he’s a Difference Maker okay um yeah he he he’s a guy that I could see Texas Tech you know putting on the edge in a shieldwood defense and getting nine and a half 10 sacks in year number one and then him just being in Leck for one year and going to the NFL I I really think he’s that good I I really do and I think he’d be perfect um in a shieldwood defense I really really do all right um speaking of skill position players that from jet it I might be pronouncing his name wrong so apologies but is it Nisa Hunter I think it’s Nisa I’m Gonna Roll With It um but it’s the cow wide receiver um he’s 62 210 um a former fourstar wide receiver from the class of 2023 was actually not really supposed to play too much in 2024 but um ended up arguing being their best wide receiver um posted 40 catches about 600 yards 578 to be exact five touchdowns when I watch him play these are the kind of traits that stand out to me and I think he would be a great addition I’ll say that but these are the traits that stand out to me I wrote down that he plays fast and he’s confident right a lot of wide receivers play with hesitancy that are young he plays fast and he’s confident in his route running ability now when you look at everything he covers a lot of ground um in the short area half field and I think one of the best traits that he has and one that kind of reminds me and hear what don’t hear what I’m not saying here but when I think of a wide receiver that is slippery or hard to tackle he kind of reminds me of that AJ Brown um Debo Samuel guy in terms of it never seems like the first guy get gets him down like it just doesn’t happen very often in the film that I’ve seen he’s solidly built with good overall Sid and bulk um he has long arms and does a nice job of extending um his arms and making sure that he doesn’t allig alligator arm it he actually goes out and attacks the ball right like that’s something that stands out to me um and he has a large catch radius as well um it he’s not going to be a threat to take the top off the defense though um he’s he’s not a 4-3 guy probably closer to a four five5 um I would say but I do think one of the benefits of Hunter is he can kind of line up anywhere I would not mind seeing him in the slot I wouldn’t mind seeing you know move Caleb Douglas to the slot to give the defense a different look and Hunter’s on the outside same thing with KY Aken and Hunter flip around like I think that would be a tremendous Trio for the Red Raiders and I think Hunter could easily play the slot now would he step in and immediately be that Josh Kelly roll type guy I don’t know because a lot of the film that I saw he played on the outside doesn’t mean that he can’t play in the slot because there were a few plays that he played in the slot but I do think he is the guy that really stands out to me in terms of I think he could come in right away in a ma left wi offense and get 800 yards I I think he could be that type of guy 62 210 I would love to see him in a Mack left wige offense because I think he can create and do a lot of things at a very very high level um that not many if any wide receivers currently on the Texas Tech roster can do I think he could come in right away and be the best pass catcher in terms of just strict hands on the team in terms of actually pinpointing the ball and going out there and not having to be you know a catch in terms of catching with your body right would he be the best wide receiver on the team for Texas Tech no I think that would be Caleb Douglas but I think he’d be in the conversation right he’s that type of player and again 40 catches 578 yards five TDs is that going to wow you on paper no but much like Skyler Gil Howard I encourage you to go watch the film of Hunter at Cal and see what he did in a situation that really wasn’t too great um until later on in the year uh where he was really starting to go he really didn’t start as a starter until the fourth game of the season so um he’s an interesting one and I think Texas Tech should be hyper aggressive on him I mean I think it would be phenomenal if they landed Skyler Gil Howard the Northern Illinois DT and then they landed hunter from Cal I think those would be two home run Edition I for the offense and the defense for the Red Raiders I I I think they are Sensational players and they are both scheduled to be on campus as early as tomorrow Skyler Gil Howard is supposed to be on campus tomorrow he’s getting a ton of P4 love as is Hunter the cow wide receiver he’s getting a ton of Po uh P4 love um and uh those are two guys that really stand out to me again real quick before I get to the comments and you can uh drop in your questions real quick we’ll probably go for another 10 or so minutes um as long as the questions keep pouring in we’ll probably keep going but the players that are confirmed to have a visit doesn’t mean they’re actually going to be there but are confirmed to have a visit as of now for the Red Raiders are jacobe Henderson the Marshall DB he’s actually on campus today for the Red Raiders Skyler Gil Howard I think we’ve talked about him enough his scheduled visit is supposed to start tomorrow then you’ve got kazim Moore Elon Edge his visit is supposed to start here in the next 24 48 hours and then air Boyd Matthews Another long long rangey DB from UTEP um his visit is scheduled to start on Sunday the 15th and go through Monday and then naiah Hunter the cow wide receiver His official visit supposed to start here in the next few days you’re in the mix there between three schools including Texas Tech so Texas Tech is one of those schools the other two are Oklahoma and Nebraska okay so that’s kind of the situation you’re in currently right now if you are Texas Tech um and again I would love to have Hunter I would love to have Gil Howard I think those two guys are game changers um in my opinion for their respective sides of the football uh let’s see jet hopefully that answers your question on the skill guys um Tyrie needs to talk with princewell yeah I hope so I hope Joey is using all the connections possible right now um if we’re being good stuff okay Jared ask do you think we we can utilize Taj to get us the USC running back I believe you’re talking about Joiner correct yeah Texas Tech has some interest there um I don’t know man I he fits the mold that I think Texas Tech wants to get I just wonder if they go the older route because you think about it you have cam dicki um and you obviously have jacobe Williams do you want a guy in Joiner that is a Sol sophomore you want three sophomore running backs Jer has three years of Eligibility left granted he did just lead the Big 10 and yards per carry and he fits that Taj mold but he is a little bit younger do you want to go that route and have that three-headed monster in the back field I think it’d be interesting no doubt qualified in terms of the skill level that you want um it’s just does he want that and does Texas Tech want that or do they want to go maybe the more veteran approach and maybe go after the Texas State running back and have experience coming in from that perspective with the offense that uh ma Leftwich runs also would love to see uh Alex hary the uh right tackle for Texas state would love to see him follow uh mlff wit outs to the 806 but uh we’ll see how that goes Texas Tech actually offered him um a couple days ago and is a guy that really really could be an instant impact player on that right side if you got zamb brono at Right Guard and hary at right tackle you’re talking about a guy in Zan brono that’s 65 305 and then hary Alex hary um is I believe 65 66 like 330 it’s pretty good start on the right side of that offensive line no doubt about that um what do you think of TOS talking about coming back um in coaching um it doesn’t surprise me Taj loves Texas Tech man um he’s everything that a Red Raider is man he he’s he’s such a model citizen off the off the field and on the field we obviously know what kind of player he is being the all-time leading rusher um in program history but man he’s he’s everything you want right like he’s everything you want for an ambassador for Texas Tech football and to have him um going to the NFL and I think he’ll be a really solid running back for years to come alongside a guy like oh I don’t know the best player on the planet um and Patrick Mahomes those are two pretty damn good ambassadors that genuinely embody everything it is to be a Red Raider at a high level um not to mention pretty damnn good football players but even better people so um doesn’t shock me at all and Taj is definitely qualified and speaking of the running back position in coaching shout out to Garrett Maguire he is the new running back coach took me 37 minutes to bring that up but my apologies um he is the new running back coach for the Red Raiders the son of head coach Joey Maguire listen a lot of people are saying this is a nepo baby hire um Garrett McGuire is a really good coach now let me say this does his dad being the head coach at Texas Tech impact him getting this job probably slightly um but Maguire is more than qualified um he he’s coached a few uh positions um you know in that regard so I mean I think it’s a quality higher um for sure and I get the nepo aspect of it but I do think that he’s a quality higher um at the running back uh Coach position uh Chad ask am I crazy for believing mohorn could take a huge leap next year no I don’t think so I think you saw flashes of him um really the last two games of the Season that showed maybe he could be an impact guy um what does that look like exactly I don’t know but I think um him having you know a lot more experience under his belt in terms of playing time and actually meaningful playing time will be super beneficial for the Red Raiders next year he’s got all the traits right like you want in a shut down corner now he’s just got to do it I think the biggest thing he struggles with um is really getting beat on the inside on the outside I think he’s a good corner but he gets beat quite a bit on the inside and that’s something that he probably needs to work on um this off season um let’s see things are we got uh D Wayne saying RC just want to say it’s an honor being your favorite viewer hasf fact I don’t know you you can be number two Dwayne but uh I think my wife will take the number one spot on that one uh but I appreciate you tuning in man nonfamily you can be number one I I I appreciate that um beer man things are starting to heat up are things starting to run through lck or is it just Koolaid I would I would slow down on the Kool-Aid and the running through leic talk let’s see what this Texas Tech roster looks like I mean there they’ve added some three three solid pieces um they’ve added three solid pieces but um there’s a lot of work to be done and now there’s some expectations right and that’s uh that’s a big deal anyone Garrett Maguire can bring with him to the hub no not really I don’t think so um from that perspective I mean I guess you could argue princewell but I don’t know the relationship there um and I think princewell um has multiple suitors in terms of highlevel programs Texas Tech obviously in the mix there um but he’s got some options so um a lot of time it’s not what you know it’s who you know Garrett deserves it but it’s all about connections yeah that’s coaching right like I mean not even just coaching I think that’s just business in general right like I’m sure a lot of you got your job in the professional World um not only because you’re qualified but also because of who you know right like I mean that’s just kind of how it goes I think Garrett is qualified to be an RB coach um but he probably got the job just specifically at Texas Tech because his dad is the head coach but he’s qualified to have it if that makes sense I don’t know if I’m doing a good job of um you know separating those two things but I think that’s how it is I think he’s a good hire I think he’s going to do good things for the development of Cam dicki I think he’s going to do the good things for the development of jacobe Williams so I like the hire and I and I think too an underrated aspect of him that I don’t think a lot of people are talking about he’s a hell of a recruiter don’t take my word for it go listen to Matt rule what whatever your feelings are on Matt rule whatever but Garrett Maguire can recruit and he has a lot of connections just like his dad within the state of Texas that will help the Red Raiders in terms of um you know getting guys that maybe they wouldn’t in the past um Chad ask where did you see Vinnie got his medical hardship red shirt Joey Maguire said he did so Joe McGuire said he’ll be back he got a proof for it from the head coach himself so PR good source I think um on that one um let’s see Dwayne says I feel the best thing to happen with Garrett is we have success and he gets hired away as an OC in a couple years all positive no nepotism stuff I hope yeah I mean he again he’s qualified right you think about it like would you just blind resume okay let’s think about this would you like a coach that has NFL experience also has coached on the offensive side of the football at a major program in the P4 as your running back coach would you like that yeah I think everybody would if it was a blind resume I think everybody’s just calling it or not everybody but a select few people are saying in bringing up the nepotism aspect of it just because they are father and son right but Garrett is more than qualified I think for the job also I saw somebody ask it I think it might have been Max Olsen of ESPN on Twitter um has there ever been a staff in college football history where three coaches have the same last name and not all three are related it’s interesting right you think about it it got Joey Maguire clay Maguire Garrett Maguire really easy to know basically damn near the whole offensive side of the football in terms of coaches you got a pretty good chance of guessing that coach um in their last name considering got the offensive line and running back coach name Maguire there um again big news for Texas Tech today is that they land uh Dante balfor a UNC Charlotte DB 62 um just under 200 pounds played at UNC for two years was a fourstar DB in the class of 2021 while at UNCC charlet though uh he became the program leader in past breakups with 18 and actually had 11 in 2024 U long rangeb 49 tackles um two interceptions this past season and a guy that is a quality pickup for the Red Raiders in the secondary to go along with Cole wineski from North Dakota State who well committed to the Red Raiders um last night so Texas Tech in the past three days has had arguably the best offensive tackle um in the portal in Hunter am brono commit you’ve had a guy that led um his conference in ints in 2023 missed 2024 due to a foot injury um and Cole wineski come in who’s probably gonna take that CJ Baskerville role if I had to guess and be the starting safety against 64 I’ve seen him listed from 205 to 220 I’ll go with the most common number I’ve seen I know I said 205 in the video um you know discussing his commitment the most consistent number I’ve seen after looking at it um is about 215 218 something like that um so you get two long rangey guys in that regard um and then you look at the guys that are set to be on campus one’s already on campus and jacobe Hollywood Henderson from Marshall the DB there um he’s on campus as we speak you’ve also got Skyler Gill Howard um from Northern Illinois I encourage you to go watch this tape against Notre Dame because I know somebody’s looking at their screen saying oh God here we go again Texas Tech going after small small school guys go turn on that tape against Notre Dame you will not think that he should be playing at noron Illinois you would love to have him on the interior of the Texas Tech defense specifically in a shieldwood defense okay then you’ve got kazim Moore the Elon Edge he will be on campus soon as well as air Boyd Matthews the UTEP DB another six-foot uh Corner he’ll be on campus from December 15th to the 16th and then naiah um Hunter the cow wide receiver former fourstar wide receiver there he will be on campus soon as well and that could commitment looks like it will come down it’s either Oklahoma Nebraska or your Red Raiders those are the big things to watch for for Texas Tech right now and the big news for the Red Raiders so far today I will answer these two questions before I head out of here jet what happen to the festar offensive tackle it will come down to the Red Raiders and it will come down to Michigan um it sounds like money will be a large portion of that you’ve got Cody Campbell going up against Ellison um Henry Ellison you may know him as one of the richest in the world um we’ll see how that goes but um Texas Tech does have the home um State connection there didn’t Ryan guy um he will not commit or at least sign I should say until the later signing period in February he cannot sign right now there was only a three-day window in the early signing period so you’re going to hear a lot more about him probably running into the new year but it sounds like it’s going to be between the Wolverines and the Red Raiders right now um for him so there you go on that front does does Maverick mcgyver end up at a P4 program yeah I think so if not maybe like at a Washington state I think that would make sense something like that I think he’s good enough to play at one of those schools um he’ll definitely make the jump to the FBS but I think he could uh play it like a Washington state Oregon State maybe just below the P4 um but wouldn’t be surprised if a P4 team went after wouldn’t be shocked at all you know it’ be fun to see him play FAU with Zack kitley that’d be pretty fun right Maverick mcgyver and Zack kitley offense I think that would be a match made in heaven um for Zack kitley and Maverick mcgyver but um Renee says I saw the dude play last week versus Alo hos yeah like I mean he he’s a stud bro I mean dude moves other humans at a rate that most humans cannot okay he he would be a guy Tai Haywood who’s Rene is talking about there the five-star offensive tack out of didn’t Ryan he’d be a guy in my estimation that could come in right away and be a starting left tackle for the Red Raiders from the jump as a true freshman he’s that freaking good um would probably need to put on another 20 pounds but BR moves people the power that he possesses and how Fleet of foot he is for his size is um not normal it’s freakish um in a lot of ways it it’s really really freakish um but yeah Texas Tech is firmly in the mix there um and it’s more than likely going to either be Michigan or Texas Tech I mean Alabama’s pretty much dropped out that’s who he was committed to It’s Gonna between be between excuse me Michigan or Texas Tech I I I firmly believe that and it’s going to come down to money and probably who plays him from the jump right and if he wants to stay home if he wants to stay home wants a chance to probably start right away if it’s earned and then money it’s probably going to be Texas Tech right but Michigan offers quite a bit as well um you think about it you would have the chance to play with Bryce Underwood Michigan’s an historic program they also have a pretty damn good track record at getting highlevel offensive lineman to the pros right so um it’s going to be a battle to the end but he cannot sign um until February until Signing Day really early signing day is the normal signing day now with this new modern college football but technically signing isn’t until February technically get what I’m getting at there all right that’s going to do it for today’s live video again big news there Texas Tech lands another DB and Dante Bal for the UNCC Charlotte DB
