showing up for showing face here um I’m a Michigan State fan and getting on these Recaps fresh off your team losing sometimes is very very tough so first off I commend you for hopping on here fresh off the 69 to 55 loss the Duke BL Devils pick up the win on the road at male uh the first true road test for the Duke Blue Devils a very young team and they answered the call on this one Cooper flag had 24 points in this game to Le lead all scores KH kiple turned it up late had three big threes in the second half he added 13- seven himself and then the role players for the blue D Devils did their thing as well while on the other side of the of the coin Jaden Bradley LED Arizona with 18 points in this game and then kind of after that everyone else really struggled Caleb love three for 13 we’ll dive a little bit deeper into that uh but subie for starters here um what are your what’s your overall takeaway like just immediate reaction to this game uh and kind of how it played out first of all I come to you all with hat in hand I’m a man of accountability and right now I’m a man of Contrition okay because there were two huge whiffs I had in the preview like I mean helmet came off I threw my back out like that big of whiffs first and foremost what stood out to me was the offensive rebounding which is what I highlighted in the preview but I Ed it for Arizona Duke dominated the glass and kept Arizona off the glass which I didn’t think was was going to happen I mean I used that analogy of like you know single guys basically telling guys that are in a relationship like you don’t want that you don’t want to be out in these trenches and I said that you don’t want to be out in the trenches down low with toe aaka uh maybe you do want to cheat on your girl and go out back in the trenches because Duke Duke maybe the streets aren’t that bad they’re not that bad clearly like Duke was dominant uh on the glass they created so many Che Second Chance opportunities um but I think another thing that I was wrong about like big time Caleb love I thought he was gonna show up and erase a bad performance in Madison and follow up with it a really good one in male it didn’t happen like he was just straight up bad and I mean I am a Caleb love guy I’m not writing him off for the season I’m not writing Arizona off uh for the season but he’s kind of a liability right now and you know I think that is a growth for me to admit I don’t know if you guys are probably just sitting there being like yeah no kidding uh but that’s growth for me Caleb BL wasn’t good Arizona was not good on the glass uh so those are the two big whiffs and the two big things that I saw but one more Carter Duke’s defense was Stellar I mean so Stellar dude they they clamped Arizona uh every entry pass was challenged or a pain in the ass every inbounds pass was a pain the halfcourt set that Arizona was running just looked choppy disjointed they were they would just throw the ball around um at the top of the key for like 10 seconds and then you get a challenge shot Duke’s defense was incredible uh Arizona’s defense was pretty good but it was missing against Wisconsin uh their offense was missing in this game but for in all seriousness car like hats off to Duke they dominated this game and pretty much every facet yeah they outrebound Arizona in this game by 13 rebounds you added the 13 offensive rebound rebounds they had Arizona was the best offensive rebounding team in the country and they were limited to six in this game Toby aaka only had three rebounds honestly The Bigs very much struggled in this game and obviously it’s early in the season right um and I think here’s my two like very early season takeaways for both teams one obviously you brought up Duke’s defense I don’t even think their offense is as great as it can be right now like right now it’s a lot of like Cooper flag ISO or someone else ISO and like maybe kick out or run something for Khan if they get into like an offensive Rhythm it’s going to get extremely spooky but you mentioned what they can do defensively it just doesn’t it’s it’s not fair it’s not fair because super Flags your best player and he’s a he’s a great defender he’s always in the right spot he has quick hands uh malaak is just the length is crazy and then you have Tyrese Proctor I thought did a great job on Caleb Love Tonight uh defensively I thought he um really made things things uncomfortable for him and look as an Arizona fan you cannot have Caleb Love play like this like you just can’t because tonight when Caleb love did play like this you look to the bench there’s not really much guard Wing depth there like you have Carter Bran who I really like he’s he has a lot of potential but I honestly like his potential as more as like a three small ball four even uh than possibly being in the guard spot and just some very questionable offensive things things for me for Arizona tonight like it just seemed like they were so set on feeding uhar and feeding aaka and uh feeding crous and they really just didn’t those guys just didn’t have it tonight uh and whether it be you know uh offensively what they were trying to do I mean obviously you want to throw it to those guys in the post sometimes but you know sayon James and Malik Brown and everyone else just hands everywhere they couldn’t even put the ball on the floor to make a move and once they couldn’t do that they started trying to do too much like Toby Waka like traveled trying to do a dribble to the free throw line he tried to do another one late in the game where he took two dribbles of Lay It Up and Cooper flag just like sto stared at him like DeMarcus Cousins did to that Carl Anthony talins meme uh there there’s some things that Arizona needs to figure out um offensively because as bad as Caleb love was I wish I would have took down the actual Tim stamp of it but it was late in the second half and like he just wasn’t even a part of the offense like they were literally trying to force feed high lows with the bigs and it just was not working Trey tal was struggled in this game uh it was I mean things were hard to come by offensively now Duke was great defensively I think you hit the nail in the head there but Arizona didn’t do themselves any favors I think with how they approached the game offensively no they definitely didn’t and I understand wanted to critique the personnel which we are doing like and and I that is one thing I I did hit on the preview which was I’m a little nervous about Creos and vsar because what I saw against Wisconsin and honestly what I’ve seen the last couple years against stiff competition is that they get pushed off the block and they get bullied and I said hey man stand on your ground do something against these Duke bigs uh they didn’t and they’re upper classman right these Duke like malow watches a fresh freshman didn’t didn’t phase them at all and so cras got in uh some what we thought was foul trouble but he just had a disjointed sloppy game vsar is putting it on the deck like what what are we doing here yeah I was I almost texted you I was like subie when since when does when does he do this is this what does he have that am I am I missing something here no no man he does not so so the point that I’m making is yeah the Personnel was we can critique them but Tommy Lloyd doesn’t get a free pass in this um he didn’t have any adjustments for Duke just shutting him down offensively like I said they just kept tossing the ball around at the top of the key and then he inserted Carter Bryant who’s just been who for this game I thought was just languishing on the bench and there was a little bit of a jolt and they got the the lead down to like six or seven um I mean in all reality they were never really goingon to win this game it didn’t feel that way but at least you had a spark with Carter Bryant coming in um so I think Tommy Lloyd needs to figure out his half court offense because within the first seven minutes like their only points came from turning Duke over and trying to get out and run like there was nothing in the half court really for the entire ball game so Tommy’s got to figure that out and honestly dude I shudder shudder uh to think what this team if like if this is what Duke’s defense is going to do to them what happens when they play Iowa State and Houston like that’s a horrifying proposition yes yeah very much so especially you talked about what the bigs look like against malok and malok’s a great defender in profession but you talking about Joan Roberts and tuggers of the world and you know Jefferson and deshun Jackson on Iowa State like those those are different level defense they’re definitely going to have to figure it out um and I think you hit the nail in the head with with with Tommy Lloyd in this one I was I was just very shocked to see the lack of adjustments like it was kind of just like I’m just keep doing keep like it’s not working but I’m Gonna Keep on that and sometimes that works like you know what I’m saying like when you have a really good player a really good system and you’re just waiting for it to break through but eventually like you know you had 27 points in the first half and 28 points in the second half so you basically just said I’m going just keep on doing this and it’s not working and I would rather you know I’m always an advocate of coaches making adjustments and maybe it’s time to zag instead of zigg and see what could work uh I I agree with you visually it seemed to me that when Carter Bryan was on the floor it seemed to give more of a jolt to the offense and defense Carter Bryan’s a great defender I love what he does defensively on the ball uh little off the ball laad desal on this one kind of letting Khan kiple get some late but also KH canle is just an elite shooter but it it just seemed like the the two bigs thing was the the the way to go tonight and it just did not work out for Arizona uh tough one coming off that loss tough one seeing Caleb love have back-to-back bad games um but also a great time to be a Duke Blue Devil fan I don’t I don’t want to like take anything away from Duke in this one like you this this team is is can can be something really special they’re good now but I think they’re gonna this is like the worst Duke is going to be which is a scary scary thought no I I for sure again I I said in the preview I thought Duke was a better team they clearly showed that tonight and you have my word sleepers audience and cart and everyone like I’m not going to pick with my heart going forward anymore uh I could probably get away with that when Arizona was in the Pack 12 playing those bum teams but I can’t do that in the Big 12 anymore right like I went with my heart on this one and it blew up in my face but from a Duke perspective uh Cooper flag like I thought KJ Lewis played pretty good defense on him and then you look up at the stat line it’s like golly like you are insane Cooper flag hats off to you young man he had he ripped off like 10 straight for Duke as a 17-year-old um look I’m a Jason Tatum fan so I love when people are just like he’s only 19 right like all this stuff Cooper flag you’re only 17 uh he was Sensational but really there were two other guys C that kind of broke the back for Arizona it was KH canle and Caleb Foster Caleb Foster didn’t have like an allaround amazing game but there was one three it was a relatively challenged three from the wing when Arizona cut it to like six or seven and it dropped K canle hit another one of those it was six or seven he extended it to maybe nine or 10 I forget but those were back breaking threes because you’re like okay we played good defense they just hit a better shot than us and you’re right Duke like I I don’t like that people made sweeping generalizations about Duke after losing to Kentucky who by the way is a very good team and I said that game was about Kentucky ky’s better than Arizona Duke seriously handled and it shouldn’t go overlooked how they handled business in their first true Road game in a rockus rockus environment that’s what I’m saying with three three freshman starting one of those freshman not even old enough to vote like and he just like walked up in there and he wasn’t at all like he had seven like he he wasn’t necess shooting the ball like he was 10 for 22 in this game like he he had to earn it but sometimes I hate that freshman coming to games like this and they’re like they they’re scared of the moment like Cooper wanted this moment and and I saw that against Kentucky though like obviously he turned the ball over down the stretch but yeah he there was no way that was leaving his hands yeah even like towards the end of the game like Arizona was pressing and trying to get like them sped up and Cooper just like yeah I’m just going to calm down here like I’m going I’m going catch at the top of the key I I have a floater I’m going just throw a floater and we’re just going to calm this down and if not I’m just going to throw it out to Khan and Khan’s gonna hit three threes that just don’t even touch any part of the rim and you’re just like all of a sudden you know it’s you look up and it’s over but you know Arizona has some things to figure out obviously um this game was one that was I’ll say with Cooper flag like when he I remember one play they broke the Press he got the ball at the free throw line took a dribble in a little floater I saw Malik Brown go up as if he thought that was like an Alle my brother in Christ nuh like you don’t you’re not you you don’t need to jump because it’s not an oop and you don’t need to jump because he’s not gonna miss that shot yeah resp I remember that exact play like yeah respectfully that you’re you’re wasting energy right now go ahead and get back on defense let’s not do this shout out to Duke really shout out to Duke but all right yeah congrats to Duke on this game big first win on the road true first road test they pass with flying colors they travel to I think they play Kansas next on a neutral site game in Vegas I believe it is so that be a good one to see Arizona coming two straight losses they can you know they travel to ma Bahamas yeah David next North Carolina team oh no yeah so you know they they possibly have some
