Good News Seattle Mar fans Edgar Martinez is back for 2025 in an expanded role overseeing the entire hitting philosophy and hitting Direction and coaching strategy for the hitting department for the marage in 2025 that’s fantastic news we were worried about how his role will look in 2025 after the end of 2024 really did go super well for Edgar Martinez in that hitting coach role it’s just we know that Edgar doesn’t want to be fully involved in like the travel aspect and we’ve kind of talked about it a lot during this offseason of like whatever you can get out of Edgar for 2025 you should try and do and if it’s he’s only there for home games he’s only there for spring training and then you just have another hitting coach whatever kind of travel with the team for away games and you just have that guy be a sponge for what Edgar’s trying to teach and practice that should be the direction the rers go with because before Edgar Martinez took over the Mariners hitting coaching spot essentially at the end of the 2024 season it was only 34 games but before that the Mariners were 28th in Ops 27th in runs per game and 30th dead last in strikeout rate and in those final 34 games the offense turned it around seemingly because of a difference and of approach and hitting strategy maybe or the players just decided to play better but regardless they ranked fourth in Ops at 764 they ranked fourth in runs per game scoring over five runs runs a game a full run better than what they were doing the previous 130 games and 15th in strikeout rate jumped up 15 spots in strikeout rate I’ll take it Edgar Martinez is back and this is a very very good decision for the Seattle mirers in my opinion this is coming on the news from Daniel Kramer that MERS have hired two new hitting coaches for The 2025 season but to kind of wrap up what Edgar Martinez’s role will be in 2025 Martinez will spearhead the implementation of General hitting philosophies and coaching practices he will be a regular presence for home games and spring training but he isn’t expected to regularly travel something that we kind of all knew was in the realm of possibility for Edgar but the guys that the Mars are bringing in I mean we kind of said the same thing last off season about bringing in brand Brown it felt like a good decision at the time and then he was relieved of his duties a month into the season in May and along with brown the other two hitting coaches on the team in 2024 Jared Dart was relieved of his duties when Scott service was fired at the end of August and Tommy Joseph left the Mariners ball Club as the assisted hitting coach to go to the Orioles for the same role that means Mariners have two open spots the hitting coach and the assistant hitting coach and why not just get them in a package deal one from a team that has done pretty well offensively and have shown great strides in developing offensive players in the Atlanta Braves Kevin siter and Bobby magayanes sorry if I’m mispronouncing that that’s what I’m going to go with are coming over to Seattle supposedly it hasn’t been finalized but it’s expected to be announced today that you’re hearing this what the coaching staff will look like siter will be the main hitting coach he’s been the hitting coach for the Braves since 2015 and aganis was brought in to be the assistant hitting coach in Atlanta in 2021 so they’ve been working together for the last three or four seasons and going into 2025 that’s their expected partnership their roles coming into Seattle something that I found kind of interesting little little little fun fact maganus was actually drafted by the Seattle Mariners way back when in 1989 the 50th round MLB draft used to be massive and the fact that maganis was drafted by the Mariners in the 50th round in 1989 and now is it’s just kind of like not like a full circle moment but it’s pretty cool right he’s the assistant hitting coach he’s not going to have as much say as siter or Edgar in this situation but having him be a part of this process as well I think just makes sense like filling in two spots from one team that has been great offensively for the larger part of both of their regimes in Atlanta of course position player talent and that crop of talent in Atlanta yes it’s easy to point out that maybe they’ve got a bit more star power maybe their operations from the front office standpoint also allows them to bring in better players but even if it’s not just like a coaching staff problem in Seattle having guys that have worked with the likes of Ronald aunia Jr Matt olssen who put up a an amazing year in 23 H his career high in home runs and drove in a career eye in RBI Michael Harris II like yes they’ve had a good crop of young talent but the fact that they were also working with them I think bodess well for what the Mars are trying and hopefully getting out of siter and maganis as they come over to Seattle to be the hitting coaches underneath Edgar and that’s the part that excites me the most is it’s an experienced hitting coach in siter and then a guy who is like underneath his wing but like has some experience as well they are the sponges for Edgar and not to say that siter doesn’t like he he doesn’t have his own philosophies Etc but the fact that Edgar is going to be like the hitting director he’s like the director of like hitting philosophy and hit and coaching strategy revolving around the offensive side of the game I think should excite a lot of fans and siter again it’s a similar situation in my head to Brand Brown it’s a big name in the offensive game coaching wise for baseball coming into Seattle I just have to hope that it goes better and looking at the track record of sites are in Atlanta I think it should courtesy of raise the Trident shout out Jake since 2015 sitzer with Atlanta they ranked top 10 in these offensive categories batting average on base percentage slugging home runs F war and strikeouts all things that if they get better for Seattle should help out this team long term it’s a situation where citer was brought in to help with the Atlanta rebuild of course they ended up winning a World Series in 2021 and have been I think a part of what seven playoff appearances in that stretch from 2015 to 2024 like he’s been a part of winning ball clubs of winning pedigree and has shown the propensity to develop and Coach great offensive talents in Major League Baseball the Mariners have to hope and have to assume that those same Tendencies will carry over from Atlanta to Seattle along with what they show like the offense showed at the end of the year under Edgar will also continue if it’s a change in Philosophy from what the har Brown and Joseph were teaching in 2024 and the heart goes even further back maybe that style of change a more simplistic approach is and Julio praised it a ton at the end of 2024 maybe that’s what is needed and will allow the Seattle Mariners offense to not be completely abysmal for 90% of the 20125 season because if you get a an average offense for 2024 Mayers are probably looking at a playoff appearance and you might say yeah the Mayers had an above average offense according to WRC plus and that’s true but I would be more so worried about the longevity of how that offense looked cuz it’s shown in the numbers before Edgar they were bottom like three or five in numerous categories and those final 34 games with Edgar they really I think raised the stock value of the offense for the Seattle Mars it’s just can they sustain that for a long 162 Game season I’m hoping with Kevin siter and Bobby magayanes as part of the Hidden coaching staff to really Elevate the maror offense and I don’t think they’ll reach the heights of the Atlanta Braves but if Julio puts up a 4070 season I mean hey I wouldn’t be mad at it let me know what you guys think down in the comments down below if you excited about this coaching staff Direction and go
