welcome back everyone my name is Patrick you’re watching the Oilers rundown broadcast on the Oilers fanatic and the heavy hockey Network coming to you from a temporary studio for tonight should be back in the home studio tomorrow earlier today at lunch I put out a video on the Oilers newest waiver claim Alec rajula I’m still not entirely sure how to say his name but I’m going to go with a combination of Drake koua there so Alec rajula maybe it’s different feel free to correct me in the comments below but that aside so we weren’t entirely sure what was going on when the Edmonton Oilers claimed Rula earlier today what was the plan here for the Edmonton Oilers they have a lot of right shot defenseman down in Bakers field but as a few of you pointed out in the comment section in my lunchtime video the Oilers if they put them right back on waivers he would likely just be reclaimed by Boston and they’d lose him so what would be the point in sending him down to Bakersfield a point I didn’t think of earlier when I said Bakersfield was his most likely destination so thank you guys for pointing that out I’m going to blame it on lunchtime busy day wasn’t thinking of all the scenarios properly so Alec rajula is staying it looks like with the Edmonton Oilers he hasn’t played at all this season so far battling a knee injury so the Edon Oilers are going to nurse him back slowly Daniel nen Bowman of the athletic put out an article this afternoon with a great explanation of why the Oilers made the waiver claim and what the Oilers are interested in in rajula let’s go over a few highlights from his article as Daniel notes on the surface the Emon Oilers claiming right-handed defenseman Alec rajula from the Boston Bruins seems surprising the Oilers have won six of their last seven games they’re already carrying an extra blue liner and according to a team Source there are no injuries to any players on the back end however general manager Stan Bowman knows rajula 24 well when GM in Chicago Bowman traded future Oiler Brendan to acquire him from Detroit in October 2019 rajula got his NHL time with Chicago between 2021 and 20122 before he was dealt to the Boston Bruins rajula also has a familiarity with top pairing defenseman Evan bushard rajula and bushard were Partners while playing for the Ontario hockey leagues London Knights it was rajula who mostly played the left side so there’s some versatility there even if it’s unlikely he plays much with Bard so what do the Oilers see in boua according to the team Source rula’s patience and Poise with the puck and ability to pass it are the attributes that Intrigue them the fact that he shoots right is a bonus bringing in rajula and his two-way contract with an NHL league minimum capit of 775,000 means the Oilers are now carrying eight defensemen it also means they’re back in ltir and are no longer AC crewing cap space this could open the door for a subsequent roster move in the near future because Oilers management has been consistent in its desire to acrew cap space ahead of the trade deadline in March it’s worth noting that number seven defenseman Travis Dermot has appeared in just 10 games this season and hasn’t played since November 19th at Ottawa a span of seven contests so there we have it guys a connection to Evan Bard right shot who can play the left side 775k contract nothing really to lose here for the Edmonton Oilers if rajula heals up doesn’t work out just throw him back on waivers someone claims him or he goes down to the condors and if he works out the emont Oilers have a number seven defenseman possibly a top six defenseman for 775k and a player like Travis durit who hasn’t played much this year for the Edmonton Oilers could also go on waivers get claimed or go down to the Bakersville condors and the Oilers just simply have more depth in that scenario so that’s the reason why the EMP Oilers made the waiver claim today hopefully that provides more clarity like I said I want to get this information out there because I put out some bad information at lunchtime thought he was going to Baker’s field but it looks like Alec Rula is staying with the Edmonton Oilers at least for the time being and we may see a player like Travis dermit go on waivers in the coming days I think that’s all I got for now guys I will be on the heavy hockey Network later tonight at 9:00 P p.m. mountain on Oilers live with lsy and dash in the Parks so come join us at 9:00 p.m. for some Oilers discussion that’s all I have for now guys let me know your thoughts on rajula in the comments section below if this is your first visit to the channel and you like what you see please consider liking and subscribing for all the latest Oilers content you’ve been watching the Oilers fanatic thanks for being a fan [Music]
