welcome into latest edition of espnfc I’m Dan Thomas joined in the studio today by Craig Burley and Ali Morano there really is of a sense of we can’t quite believe what we’ve just seen play out at the Santiago burn about Barcelona beating Real Madrid by four goals to nil a real Madrid side who hadn’t been beaten in La Liga since September last year that record smashed and any sort of hopes that maybe the momentum had been built up after that second half performance against barusso Dortmund very much put to bed Real Madrid Stars didn’t shine barcelon as players of course did and then some as we welome in for more reaction to this Stuart Robson Jurgen clintsman and Lis Garcia the only man to predict a Barcelona victory Craig that there’s so much to talk about but let’s just start with overall generic look at it I mean it’s not just that it went against what most of of us thought and it was the game just was a the game just had a different Dynamic and we went oh that surprised us it was going the way we thought it would we’re talking about 45 minutes of football here that was stunning and 45 minutes from Real Madrid that was diabolical and when you put those two worlds together you get four goals and it could have been five or six when levandowski missed an absolute sitter when he hit the post and I’ve yet to see a side as experienced and as Elite as Real Madrid capitulate like that in the second half it’s another one like the Bayern Munich game in midweek that’s kind of weird and strange to analyze because there was so many opportunities where the way Barcelona defend in the first half but Real Madrid L Bayern Munich did not take it and most of that fault was a bad finish from from Venus Jr and really bad timing and really bad runs from Kelly and mbappe but the change from Hy flick at halftime was key experience and ball retention from Frankie D young they got their goal they forced Real Madrid to push and push and make changes and that game just opened up and then welcome in Lin Ma and Rafia and they just swallowed up that space it was in behind them it was a performance and a result that I don’t think anybody if they’re being honest said Bas are going to win this game comfortably by three or four now it’s not even a debate nobody was saying that it was just a stunning stunning second performance and I have to say not from a real Madrid point of view view but from a neutral point of view that was that was an open open Classico was it not yeah it was it was a classic Classico one that Real Madrid fans will want to forget very quickly one that Barcelona fans will be more than happy to remind them about for years absolutely and going into halftime for nothing Barcelona was not in play was not in play when I say was not in play I really mean that if we were to pick a winner going into halftime we think you know it’s more it’s more likely Real Madrid and it’s not supposed to happen this way at Santiago Vero Santiago Vero that history that energy elevates usually elevates Real Madrid in the second half instead Santiago bername and the pressure of Santiago bername Swallow Real Madrid and the Real Madrid players and we saw guys who we think are at an elite level today not quite there the very experienced players of Real Madrid today disappeared and the young guys from Barcelona who we question are they going to be able to handle this moment men they elevated their game to a completely different level and it’s marasop who’s playing through balls and of course Robert leandos is scoring goals and Rafa is running in behind and of course lamin is creating problems but beyond that what you have to be encouraged if you’re a Barcelona fan is this is not even the best version of your group just yet because one would assume that when Gabby comes back they get even better and they have more bite in the Midfield and they have more strength in the Midfield and Frankie the young is just coming back from injury and Danny ormo has been injured and so now you put all these pieces together and you say at the talent the young Talent with the structure with the manager with the experience with the goals they they look like a really good team that just took a completely different step to a Next Level that I don’t know that we thought they were capable of at the be in fact I I I never thought that I would see Barcelona playing at this level so early in the hansy flake era and they have taken it to that level Real Madrid on the other side completely the opposite direction but Jurgen we saw Real Madrid let them get to that level it could have been it could have been three or 4 nil at halim killing mbappe such a signature signing in the summer such a soap op for to get him but many thought wow this is going to elevate Real Madrid who let’s not forget won the Champions League and La Liga to another level yet today when it when it came to turning up in a big boy game he was making school boy errors yeah I think this today was was really the beauty of a a huge huge game like a classical like a derby like that you know it’s it’s the those games that really kind of show the real character of players it shows uh how fascinating things can change within a couple of minutes I think you know Real Madrid did well the first the first 25 30 minutes they had their chances obviously MPP too often and offside uh venu junor kind of they played against their own nerves in a certain way and they lost against their own nerves you know because they couldn’t control themselves and be balanced enough and relaxed enough to finish things off then at a certain point they brought Barcelona back into that game and and Barcelona took advantage of it then in the second half with a very experienced leowski with two goals and then you know then they yeah they executed every little move perfectly but you see that those type of games they’re literally controlled on on the mental side of things you know and if you don’t get yourself in the right mindset in a balanced mindset if you are too anxious if you are too too motivated which in case of Venus Jr and and mbappe especially um you you’re not getting a result and uh it will be obviously interesting to see now the next couple of weeks how Barcelona will handle their type of game with that High Line you know if they get maybe here and there some some lessons as well because it’s very risky style to play but obviously 4-0 nobody would have thought that be when the game started especially not after half an hour when Real Madrid was in total control of the game Rob Robert how do you explain it I understand maybe one or two times early on in the game you’re nervous you’re excited you’re looking to make impression at your big at your big move yet we saw it time and time again in that first half where a man who has won the World Cup who’s regarded as one of the best players in the world who kept making the same error it didn’t look as I was thinking about you know it’s obvious I he must have watched Barcelona many times season all said it everybody said it they play high offs almost on the halfway line don’t make the run too early let the ball go in there first you know get yourself on the half turn get but not between the two centeres but get on the shoulder of the second Center half so you can see them both and you can time your eyes and he didn’t have the intelligence or the football knowledge which he should have as one of the world’s best players to see it he kept on making the same mistakes and to make the runs after half time when they lost the first goal there was another thing mentally they lost their discipline round suddenly charging towards the ball played around so Barcelona could play around any sort of pressure one and two players were going they were trying to step up for offside when it wasn’t on back line was completely disjoint the front players were here there and that a lack of organization it showed a lack of discipline and it showed you that Barcelona mentally were far far better than Real Madrid today uh let’s welcome in shall we our match commentator stepen manman of course former Real Madrid player with us Luis Garcia as well Ma I don’t think at least anyone could have foresaw what happened in that second half at halim no it was um it was embarrassing wasn’t it Dan in the end I was listen I’m listening to to Jen and and and Robo there you know I I completely agree can care with all of them Real Madrid lost the shape Barcelona were fantastic Real Madrid were all over the place defending like children in the end I mean so lopsided so dysfunctional um you know they they ConEd four but levandowski missed you know an incredible chance for his hatrick it could have been five it could have been six and um you know Real Madrid were brilliantly bad weren’t they and Barcelona with the youth and their experience that they have scattered around the pitch I thought we we’re excellent welld deserving of the Victory and um I mean it’ll be a huge postmortem tomorrow won’t it Killian mbapp looked as if he couldn’t play in the end he was just bereft of all kinds of confidence and um it’ll be interesting to see what happens because you know Madrid were all over the place it was very very very strange performance that second half performance today what’s strange as well m is we’ve seen like this is Real Madrid hasn’t got a glass draw we’ve seen them been punched so many times over the years yet they bounce back and they get the result but this time there was no sort of resilience any sort of show of a comeback whatsoever no not at all um it looked as if Barcelona was just going to carry on and score more goals you know even in the five minutes to go mbappe is still running offside I mean it’s incredible the fact that we’re having this conversation about one of the world’s greatest players with blistering Pace he could not keep himself on side it was incredible to see and to watch and it sort of brings you back down to Earth really when you when you look at these humbling experiences because you know maybe they’re not as good as we all thought yes glimps is outstanding but tonight on the biggest stage in his first Classico um when it looked as if they could score at will after 20 minutes in the first half you know Madrid were found wanting and it’s um it’s a very strange scenario because I think when you spoke to everybody before the game we all thought it was going to be goals but we thought it’ be Madrid scoring them so the fact that you know it was it was a humbling 4-n victory for Barcelona you know in their head-to-head games as well that gives them a psychological edge of 4-n Victory when they have to go to the monck or Camp new if if the camp new will be ready for that particular game um but six points clear Barcelona I mean you don’t want to go on about how bad Real Madrid would be because that’s a disrespectful for BARC Ona they went there on a night with youngsters and they just ran all over Real Madrid and it was a really really Stellar performance from them so you’d have to say well you know incredibly well done to hansy flick because he’s Brave playing that style of football against venicius Jr and killing mbappe but he’s walked away with a fantastic 4-n Victory I me you what did we say I mean when somebody is getting caught offside as much as that and we’ve we’ve talked about it all game Mar’s right ridiculous in the end ridiculous to continue to be in offside positions when you have that level of understanding of the game and experience uh and he wasn’t the only one but he was the the the biggest culprit and we know they do play this line right here’s they’ve got the most off sides almost double anybody else in European football so what do you have to do we talked about it you’ve got to get Runners from Deep and you got to talk to your front men and say play away from it don’t always try and run in there play away from it let the Midfield run us how many runs tell me how many times Freddy Val Val Verde got in behind I don’t remember Val Verde once and he’s one of the quickest most energetic players in World football how many times did he make a run from deeper penetrating that defense or offside I’m going to say zero I remember one from Jude Bellingham in the first have one so what you have here to an extent is you have and I suppose at Real Madrid it’s happened a lot you sign these galactical just big stars you got to sort of find a way to to to get it right but they’ve basically taken again another side that was fluid and and and very successful and ripped up that blueprint and moved a lot of people around to try and make it work for Kelly and mbappe and yeah they’re only a few points behind but we’ve seen all the performances we’ve seen the games thus far it is not working but they had no Midfield Runners today to try and break an offside trap and they had one guy who was trying to break it for 95 minutes or whatever it was and he couldn’t do it uh Luis Garcia you haven’t spoken yet and I doubt you care considering what you saw take place in that second half it it must just be Beyond any dreams of Barcelona to see what happened and see how it played out and to see the youngsters and to see what Hy flick has done with this side given all the doubts on and off the pitch during the summer yes I think so the for for the club for the supporters for the even for the players to start the way that they have started the beginning of this new era with hansy Fleet with all those youngsters just because of the result they were arriving but also because I think that the way this Barcelona has been playing is been just magnificent you can have ups and downs you can have moments of doubts we saw the other day against Bayern Munich and today at some point in the first 45 when Real Madrid that the Ben of course is going to be dominant is going to put you under pressure but the way that the kids handled the situation he was outstanding and the guys are trying to understand why um Why Real Madrid is not making those runs from the Midfield going forward why mbappe is not making the the right runs H when that Highline is going ahead if you see the way the the Barcelona has been playing for the past two and and a half month three months is exactly the same way with that High Line you need to work a lot during the week and the will tell you that to to make a good pressure the whole team has to do it in the perfect situation in the perfect moment all at the same time or with an organization because in the moment one of the players is out of that pressure then the other team is free to do whatever they want this Real Madrid is trying to manage and trying to find their shape still yet because we saw this Real Madrid starting with a 442 then change it with a 433 then changing the other day with a selta aigo with the three center backs today we seen ju bellinga on the right and kaminga on the as a Wingers so it’s very difficult for the players we are talking about top players they will need to find their way on the field but you need to work that in the moment that that is not work and you start changing replacing players you take away toi and you bring Modric and then there is no transition you take away kaminga you bring BR Diaz and then the whole Midfield is gone so the plan B is not going to work because you haven’t worked with that so you could see in the second out so much space and so much um time for players to to receive the ball of Barcelona and then create cont attack so I think that this Real Madrid needs to find their way they haven’t done it they got the talent on the team but they don’t know if they’re going to play for2 433 or whatever they going to find in the moment they find their way their identity this Real Madrid will go to the other side because as Craig just mentioned we’ve seen them so many times we’ve even last year and in the end because of the talent they managed to get the result but the way that they’ve been playing is not the best of the Real Madrid so I think that we’ll see a better Real Madrid but so far I think they have away from their best uh last word to you Mak before we let you go you can have a little sing song if you like on that karuna microphone okay um well I think that you know the worrying part Dan is it doesn’t seem to be yeah the forwards will take care of themselves but defensively now they look all over the place Danny Carvajal is not coming back this year is he I don’t know how bad TBO cir is hopefully he’ll be back soon but they they’re letting in goals you know they let in two against Dortmund could have been more they lost to Le they’ve been hammered tonight and could have let could have conceded more so they’re going to have to do something there as well so looking at it from a broader perspective they’re in a bit of a mess and they need to sort out a lot of problems and they need to sort it out very very soon thank you very much Steve MC manman jgen cinman still with us a final thought from you Jurgen ahead for car angelot obviously I mean this is a um a brutal defeat and and obviously that that sits in your stomach for quite a bit um but he has to figure out a way and he will figure out a way because he has the experience he has the knowledge and he’s a fantastic manager which he’s proven so many times over and over again he has to um find the New Balance in that team after Tony gross obviously is not there anymore Steve mentioned the players injured still um there was a complete lack of leadership there was no boss on the field that after maybe the second goal that they considered that kind of group the the the players together and say you know this is now how we going to do it obviously mbapp this whole process will take time um and he was pretty much playing against himself today because of of uh this yeah it was simply over motivated in my opinion um so they need to grow together there Venus Juniors mppe uh Bellingham you can discuss now obviously the position that he played today that was not working out at all he could have made a big difference in my opinion if he played behind the strikers in the in a number 10 role role um but there’s a lot of work ahead of Carlo but that’s what he’s doing day in day out and he will figure out a way to to get them together and to to build step by step this Real Madrid to where where it belongs uh and then I’m sure by the end of uh the this season you know they will they will be close again to a title or two but it’s uh um it’s been a a spanking today against this wonderful Barcelona side this young wonderful Barcelona side under F Robo I hope your feed is caught up Barcelona won 4-0 final thoughts two for him well actually you know let’s let’s go on the positive side Barcelona you know we talked about the bad runs ofpp but the good runs of RAF runs that that mbappe should have been making from outside to in you know for the goal it’s a brilliant finish the confidence that they showed when they started to to take control in the second the the strength in depth now that they’ve got they brought on Gaby remember they brought on Frankie D young they brought on Danny Mo three players that didn’t start the game they had an big influence on the second half I thought it was a magnificent performance in the second half from Barcelona I’d like to see more of the same going forward Jurgen Rober thank you very much they’re of course both with us during our
