Vancouver canx Buffalo Sabers mock trade thrown out there by Elliott Freeman on 32 thoughts so Ry I thought we just jump right into it Sabers perspective from yourself and uh I’ve followed the Canucks closely over the years and definitely just by default follow the Sabers being Atlantic division but I want to get your thoughts right away just for context and for everyone watching I think when you and I have talked and all the JT Miller stuff happening in Vancouver like I thought Buffalo and Vancouver like weeks ago could be actually a really good trade partner uh I thought not knowing what’s happening behind the scenes with JT Miller and not going to make any assumptions but I thought maybe there’s a package similar to what’s now been put out there by Elliot Freeman including Dylan cousins for maybe a JT Miller but now it seems like the Elias peton stuff’s coming up out of nowhere once again the only Devil’s Advocate I’ll say against that out of nowhere is Rick toet has made a couple comments recently that everything he describes is like not Elias pesque like a lot of the Canucks and what they’re I would say I would say team Dynamic and how they’re kind of playing and basically their identity I think that’s the best way I should use identity is not really Pon like if you see how they played in the playoffs like a lot of their guys whether it’s like Dakota Joshua big-time player like Garland even being a smaller player how JT Miller plays how besser plays how a lot of these guys play Peterson’s obviously at times not that but but I’ll play on the other side and I don’t know if you’ve seen it Riley ps’s also late some hits randomly at different times that’s also because his size yeah huge ones and it’s the most random thing and you talk to Canuck fans it’s like where does that come from cuz like he doesn’t play like that for stretches and then he just lays a big hit it’s like did Rick toet bring this guy into a room and just scream at him for 10 minutes like where does that come from right so um again we know that there was a time where Freeman and other insiders were talking about a trade that was going to send Elias pson to the Carolina Hurricanes now we’re back at this Riley the proposed trade was Elias Pon for Dylan cousins and bow and Byrum without even showing what I’ve got up my sleeve what do you think of that and as a Savers fan are you saying yes as fast as you possibly can oh yeah that’s almost a snap except if I’m Kevin Adams um and you know how Jim Rutherford likes to work he would make a deal midseason but um yeah I think for value’s sake like you look at um Patterson’s put up 30 goals each of the last three years um cousins have done once and then kind of fell off like I said uh last time we talked I think Dylan cousins needs to change of scener change of scenery and I think he’ll be a good player and like you were talking about with the Canucks identity uh I think Dylan cousins fits really well within that identity the issue is like fans in Buffalo want to see that identity in Buffalo so do we need another um Elias pson type that’s kind of why I like the idea of JT Miller more than Pon but uh no that’s exact like when we talked last like we can’t trade prospects trade for prospects when getting rid of Dylan cousins we need to trade up so like Elliot’s uh talked about B Byam and and cousins for patteron I I can get behind that I do think um bow and Byrum will uh be a top four defenseman on on a contending team a team that can win the Stanley Cup as he’s already shown um but yeah I like that trade for Value I think it makes sense from a salary perspective bow Byrum’s due for a big contract um Pula is kind of getting cheap and uh even this year I think P’s making around 11 cousins is at seven and Byrum’s at 3.9 so pretty much a wash I it’s it’s an it’s an perfect deal for Buffalo any way you look at it um especially like Ryan Johns just flip right into uh Byrum’s role um and own power you got own power so yeah I like it so I’m going to show you a lineup and again that that’s the review right now right I’ve talked in the last basically today I’ve reached out to people including yourself on saber land and knucks land and then also just going through X for the majority I would say of people I’ve talked to on the Sabers land it’s a yes for majority of people I talked to on the con land it’s a no so knowing how some fan bases operate and know how just us fans operate I put a trade together I’m going to show you the lineup first what peton looks like for the people that want to get more of a physical image of what the line can look like and then I’ll show you the trade and I want your reaction zooker Tage Thompson petka I think that’s the top line right now correct me if I’m wrong or at least they’ running um tuck and Thompson are always together but yeah tuck and Thompson are usually but I I know they’ve beening them they’ve been jumbling them like yeah so I’m fine with that whatever maybe more balance like we talked about Pon being that kind of player maybe tuck and Benson guys that can get dirty in the corners right get the puck to Pon I I that that was my mindset in doing that and zooker kind of doing that for for those guys as well so yeah top six zooker Tage JJ PKA uh second line Benson Pon tuck third line hoglander so again you’re already getting a a sneak peak of what else I’m adding into this trade hog glander McLoud and Greenway as a third line uh then the fourth line basically stays the same other Krebs or kolich in there and then defense defense definitely takes a hit but I think this is where the perspective is you have to make a decision if you’re either trading Samson or you’re hoping for him to bounce back you’re giving Ryan Johnson more of a shot because that could be a scenario where you you you change this where I easily could do this where I put Ryan Johnson here slide him maybe next to Dian or power and then you got maybe a bottom pair of like Samuelson and Vincent de again another sneak peek of who I have in this trade okay well now I’m gonna show you the trade you got to be honest I see Jack Quinn in there you threw him in there yeah I threw him in there because honestly man I’m telling you right now I think Canuck first round pick K exactly man canu and maybe the first round pick has some protection around it but honestly I think as much as what Freeman said and maybe that happens I think this is actually as crazy as it sounds I think this is more realistic and Savers fans might rip me a new one but I want you hey rip me a new one Riley I just think Pon at the top of his game is a top 10 Center in the league and those don’t come by easy all of a sudden you have as a onew punch the cap matches up completely here and Yi Hario has one year left the Sabers shouldn’t have an issue retaining there the Jack Quinn and the first- round pick are the tough Parts here but you know what what did we just talk about in the last pod in recording sometimes the most bold decisions ever are the most beneficial long term all of a sudden you get Pon you can’t have all these guys this is my argument to Sabers fans you can’t have kulich you can’t have Jack Quinn you can’t have Benson you can’t up aury you can’t have all these guys in the top six it’s just not going to work I age you can’t mix all these guys so if it’s not okay if it’s not Jack Quinn in this trade it’s kolich I just like Kit’s long-term outlook for the Sabres better because I think he could play that third line style more than Jack Quinn if Jack Quinn’s not in the top six and on the number one power play what’s his use in my opinion that’s my argument and I think Jack Quinn if he went to Vancouver he could be the long-term right-wing replacement for Brock besser if the conck don’t bring him back so that was my argument for this again it’s a lot I think this is so unfair for the Sabers in terms of value we just talked about asset management but Riley I flipped I said for the Sabers sake right now on a 10 game losing streak if the Sabers are not on a 10 game losing streak I’m talking to more rational here but for the fact that you are talking about a 10 game losing streak the Sabres clearly need to do something bold and drastic I think it’s time to do something crazy like this and if he gets Elias peton out of Vancouver I mean Canuck fans have to be happy with this return and and again if you need to protect like do top five protected for that Sabers first round pick then I’m for it I think that’s the conu F uh fans should still be okay with that because what a nightmare would be if Buffalo lost to potential Matthew schaer or Michael Misa uh or James Haggins or uh who am I for Porter Martone like those four guys you don’t want to lose if you’re Buffalo so I’m okay with I don’t know how you do it on puckpedia maybe there’s a note you could have added but I was thinking top five protected for that first round pick um okay so right off the bat like I do like I think all those guys can fill a good role in uh Buffalo Vinnie de har people are GNA call me crazy but um I wanted to sign him in the off season and you look at the deal he got um one thing I would maybe say is uh we could throw in laery if if Vancouver still likes him I know he was on Vancouver um and he just doesn’t have a spot here at all he just doesn’t fit you look at the fourth fly numbers with and without him but so if we’re looking at so we’re adding on to byon and cousins for Patterson they want to get rid of toet has fallen out of or hoglander and de Har have fallen out of favor from what I’m seeing online and from what I’ve seen with the healthy scratches and stuff both of those guys have fallen out of favor with the coach so I can agree with sending those guys back those are guys that could also do well in Buffalo um Jack Quinn is such an interesting guy to talk about like um he scored three goals all year two of them are last night after being healthy scratched um for six games or whatever it was um I just don’t know what you do with him because he putting him in this trade would be selling him so low like it would it would be terrible Asset Management like you say um I think we have 10 other prospects that you that are above jacquin’s value as to trade value around the league so I would throw them in over him I just don’t know what you do with Jack Quinn like looking back at the lines are you going to have them on the top six over I mean you could have him on the top six over Zucker and not take on hoglander and have the greenway McLoud Zucker that’s been working this year um but yeah I just think throwing Jack Quinn into this deal if that’s what puts it over the line man I don’t know if I’d do it uh I probably would do it would you do it if it’s one or the other qu or the first round pick adding to that package oh 100% um that’s what I’m saying I think Sabers fanss are on board that’s why I was riding the line with this offer because I’m like I’m not gonna like appease Sabers fans right now I need to ride the line a little bit so I was like I don’t know if they give up I don’t know if they give up this first Year’s first round pick just because of how bad they’re doing yeah uh te top 10 protect it and have it next year or something um but yeah those are two assets where it’s like going into the year we didn’t think our first round pick was going to be a top 10 now it’s like almost seems like a lock um Jack Quinn you thought he was going to be a 25 goal scorer and he’s kind of struggled big time maybe you got to send him off because he’s not working here and he needs to change the scenery too but I think trading him would be selling him very very low thanks
