2004 Alabama three turnovers all three picks they had zero turnovers over their three-game winning streak coming in and now Alabama three conference losses Just Like Old Miss CBS Sports HQ is built by what Bren venol is building at Oklahoma let’s start with the positive I mean for Oklahoma to come out and play the way they did to get to six wins on the season get to a bowl game with all the struggles they’ve had throughout the season says a lot about what Brent venol is building at Oklahoma says a lot about the future with all the controversy they absolutely dominated Alabama in this game the reason Alabama lost is Alabama couldn’t run the football with their quarterback Jaylen milro this Alabama offense is good when Jaylen milro runs the ball they are bad when he doesn’t run the ball and Oklahoma shut it down from the very beginning that then forced jayen Miller to try to win the game with his arm which led to the three interceptions 187 rushing yards was the deficit between Oklahoma and Alabama that is not going to win football games that is the obvious statement of the night three turnovers from Jaylen milro we had never seen showing pressure dropping out of pressure for a guy like Jaylen mro who’s not comfortable being a drop back passer it’s not even about the blitzing itself it’s about the illusion of pressure and that milro has to think about it almost every single play that led to the interceptions and then as you said Oklahoma did a great job getting points off those interceptions one for a pick six it’s what led to the absolute dominating performance by Oklahoma we’re going to dive into this a little bit deeper coming up here on CBS Sports HQ with Brad Crawford um but we might have a three lost team in the playoff like we never had a two- loss team in the four playoff teams and you’re talking about a three loss team in the first year at 12 teams I I I I can’t get behind this yeah I’m I’m with you but there’s a real chance that this thing comes down to the winner of the Clemson South Carolina game versus a n a three loss Alabama team that’s had some good wins but also the loss against vanderbelt which is a bad loss I mean it’s really going to be interesting to see how this all plays out especially when you think about teams that lose in the conference Championship game and the ACCC in the Big 12 do they deserve to be in over a three loss B Team I’ll tell you one thing no matter what everyone will be talking about how or how not Alabama makes the playoff I’ll say this Alabama has a top two or three roster in the SEC they have a quarterback who is one of the best one of the best talents in the conference and to have three losses and have an outside chance of making the playoff I think gives kayin the board their head coach a c minus grade in year one this Alabama team underperform this season given their talent on their roster I think what it does here Adam certainly is it opens the door for the ACC yeah right I mean now now we’re talking about that being a one conference uh League into the college football playoff now we’re talking perhaps two teams getting in cuz I mean you got ask him you got and you’ve got Clemson as well right there and if they can take care of business against South Carolina but that’s a tall task cuz South Carolina is playing better than Kansas right now and Kansas is playing really good right now like all these teams down the stretch here that are just playing spoiler like they could be finding a way to be in the conversation here yeah and it’s funny CU you look at the SEC they’ve all beaten each other right every team has beat up on each other Alabama has some great wins South Carolina arguably has better wins than Alabama does but Alabama beats South car so how do they how does the committee look at those two teams when deciding who gets the final playoff spot who who everyone that said the 12 team playoff wasn’t great look at it right now all these games that we’re talking about you think about these games these things matter and if if it was a 14 playoff this game would not have been as impactful as it is right now give me an expanded playoff all day I love it I mean look I I love it the fact that we got chaos here on Saturday this was a this was a prove it Saturday and a lot of teams did not prove their Worth or their value plenty of upsets here in week third week 13 rather much more ahead here on CBS Sports HQ presented by the Home Depot as we break down a busy chaotic night in college football and you take a look at Alabama’s largest losses we mentioned that national championship game they lost by 28 to Clemson and now they lose by 21 to Oklahoma their fourth tied for their fourth worst loss since 2000 kin dore’s first season at has been a roller coaster he got yelled at when he lost of course to Vanderbilt they were mad that he was wearing a t-shirt then he’s back in the good grace he on a three-game winning streak and now he goes to Norman and and by the way Old Miss did lose star receiver Trey Harris he left the game in the first half with an injury bring you back inside our HQ Studios Jeremy St Louis alongside Damen Harris Mackenzie Brooks and Danny canel so uh let’s start first with reaction here Florida Gators get it done versus old missing Gainesville and I know we’re going to sit here and talk about old Miss and we’re going to talk about how they’re not in the playoff and how Jackson D threw two interceptions at the end of the game what we need to be talking about is Billy naer and the job the turnaround project that he has had in Florida the fact that he got the the school behind him his players never abandoned him they kept playing hard every single game they kept improving to where now you’re in a situation where you win two ranked games in a row like you have nothing but excitement going into the you know the rest of this season going into next year I mean huge huge huge kudos to Billy Napier because we we all talked about this it wasn’t about if it was about when Billy neb got fired well that did not happen his team has showed up week in and week out and even in the games that they’ve lost they’ve been competitive they have been scrapping all out what do we have to write the checks and there’s a very real possibility that things could have come off the rails completely and you’re staring a three- n season in the face but this is why I tell people don’t look at the wins and losses look at the response of the team is the team still invested in the head coach in his philosophy and the Florida Gator never gave up on Billy Napier the players in that locker room which matter the most and even still after the loss to Texas remember the Texas game was not pretty but that was out DJ lagway they could have thrown a Talon again but they come back home they beat LSU they beat all miss it really is a a great story of sticking behind somebody instead of panicking because it could have been easy for Scott strick the Florida athletic director to say you know what we’re going to start looking at other options his his job isn’t safe but he gave him that endorsement fully knowing I think that the players liked loved and wanted to play for billyon Napier and they improved to six and five which now means they’re also Bowl eligible so on the other side of this though cuz that’s pretty much it for Florida Bowl eligible that’s as far as they’re going to go this year but McKenzie for Old Miss how devastating is this for them in terms of the college football playoff it’s because like I said the 50% chance for them to make the playoff relied on Old Miss Tennessee not winning out and here we are basically freeing up you know at least a portion of a playoff spot for this team so huge for Indiana to see this Old Miss L and we talked about this at Bray this huge for my Miami too because now this win that they had in Gainesville looks a lot more impressive now so when you’re beating a when you’re beating a middle tier SEC team that’s competing with the top of the SEC and Miami is blown them out that is a huge huge great look for the ACC in general and one of the things the committee looks at when they say they they’ll use DET ter me their top 25 wins but they also look at teams over 500 both eligible teams like and if if Florida does win which we’ll see it’s going to be a tough challenge for them to go to Tallahassee but if they do win and they finish seven and five like that’s a that’s a pretty all of a sudden that win looks better for everyone that they faced in Lost to even Georgia I mean everybody that’s played him it looks better okay so we saw BYU tumble last week uh 6 to 14 is where they went how far does Old Miss Tumble do they tumble right out of the playoff picture Danny what do you think yes I think they do um I think they go back to like the three lost teams South Carolina was at 18 um Missouri was somehow still ranked I think that’s maybe bump out Missi missing that spot um but they did beat Georgia like they so they’ll be in that probably 15 to 18 range which is clearly outside of the playoff picture but it’s still a pretty good season but this is a program remember they went pretty hard in the portal and the expectation with their schedule which was manageable was supposed to be this was the year that ol Miss was going to accomplish something special for them to miss the playoffs is a pretty big disappointment especially after Lane kein finally got that top 10 win too especially after that like even I was a Believer I thought okay Miss has started toig figure it out they’ve got the offensive capability they got the quarterback they got The Playmakers Keen has finally figured out how to beat that bigname opponent that bigname coach so here they go like watch them catch some steam well it’s sputtered out here we are yeah and now they’re that spot where Tennessee was when we were looking at they were kind of that bubble team as well and now you’re just simply out of the driver’s seat now you could see Notre Dame potentially lose you could see Texas maybe lose two games who knows so there are ways this could happen certainly out of your control you could see the big 12 eat itself maybe we don’t even need a big 12 team things like that could work outside of their control it could end up benefiting them the same way that this loss benefited in Indiana good news is they have Mississippi Statewide I think it’s good news Mississippi State to finish season two and you never know you never know but I guess that’s I guess the Silver Lining is they’re going to get the chance to bounce back so now the control truly is not in their hands anymore Kenzie no not at all I mean you have I’ve always said it all year you really are in an SEC you know playoff yourself just the SEC you want to be a top four SEC team we’re prettyy sure odds makers are going to put at least four teams in so if you’re in that top four you in the driver seat if you’re that fifth spot I can’t say you’re completely out yet you have to rely on other teams losing maybe we only get one ACC team maybe we get no Notre Dame maybe we only get three big 10 teams if we see Penn State go down today who knows so just looking for other things to happen a big big loss for Old Miss as they go down to the Florida Gators in Gainesville as mentioned two ranked wins in a row for Florida as Billy Napier really has started to turn that program around and next week they finish against Danny canel’s Florida State seminal Old Miss in the Red Zone today not very good Red Zone drives they only had three turn over on downs and missed a field goal and that is why they were only able to put up 17 points as they go down to the Gators we’ll see when the new rankings come out how a rooting interest in Notre Dame we were all hoping that the Black Knights could somehow stay undefeated come up with a huge upset they do not what impressed you about the way not Dame played this game this was pure Domination by NRE Dame it it wasn’t even about the the scheme the game plan it was just vertical displacement by Notre Dame’s offensive and defensive line they took control of this game and proved that they are one of the top teams in college football the formula for beating Army is to force a turnover against them and to hold Army to under four yards of carry rushing they did both those things got a turnover in this game and army averaged three yards a carry as we all know Army needs to run the football well to win games and Notre Dame is really the quarterback run game when he adds that element to this Notre Dame offense of pulling the ball getting on the perimeter running it himself and then he takes care of the football on top of that it helps Notre Dame in every other part of the game plan they want Notre Dame ran the ball 10 yards a carry today helps their quarterback so much and when they dominate on both sides of the ball like that they are extremely hard to beat well for Army to even be in this position undefeated going into the army game what does that say about Jeff monin and his program because this this team fought like crazy right and I they score a late touchdown Bryson Dy one of the best quarterbacks in the nation running the football uh it says a lot about Army to even go into Yankee Stadium and play this kind of game yeah Jeff monin has done a great job with this Army team this season huge turnaround from last year I mean this Army team last year struggled continuously throughout the season lost to UMass last year now comes into this Notre Dame game this season in 2024 undefeated until today then and played one of the best teams in the country they and and LW as a lot of people expected but still a lot to be proud of what Bryson Dy has done this season just dominating performance by this Army Team all season long have controlled the the the pace of every game they played in except the game today I think Army has a lot to be proud of and still has a chance to go win the AAC title indeed they do going to face two lane in that American Athletic Conference Championship time now for the players do doers Playbook built by Home Depot how doers get more done breaking down how a team’s game plan leads to their success phase of the game was critical of the victory the the the Run game really for Notre Dame huh yeah yeah I’d say Notre Dame’s Run game being able to control the time of possession in this game and run the ball as well as well as they did is what controlled it I thought that Notre Dame did a really nice job of using different formations shifts and motions to open up the Run game for their offense this Army defense has been really good against the run all season long so Marcus Freeman and his offense knew that they were going to have to use unique shifts motions and formations to get themselves numbers on the perimeter and they did just that Notre Dame dominated running the football 10 yards a carry which then opened up those down the- field passing plays for Riley Leonard and he took advantage when those plays were there when you look at Notre Dame’s body of work which the committee is going to do so on Tuesday and they came into this game sixth in the nation likely we’ll move up a spot maybe one or two with the Indiana loss to Ohio State when you look at Notre Dame what’s your impression about them being one of the top teams in the country uh Notre Dame is without one of the top team without a doubt one of the top teams in the country I’d say they’re top four team in the country right now you you think about this defense Notre Dame’s defense is the best in the country it isn’t even a question Notre Dame has quietly after the NIU loss really dominated everyone they have played this Notre Dame team is complete on both sides of the ball they have a quarterback that’s playing like one of the best in the country their defense is absolutely dominant I mean there is not an offense out there in the country that this Notre Dame defense can’t stop Marcus Freeman has them playing with tons of confidence Notre Dame is a complete football team and one of the best of the country and is a national title Contender on day one of the playoff this is a team I would not want to see in the first round because they might Molly W you would that be the right I mean that might be the term right that I mean that’s how bulldo yeah absolutely steamroll you in the first round of the playoff uh Army a heck of of a season still got a couple games to play uh of course we’re looking forward to the one against Navy at the end of the season right here on CBS take a look at Notre Dame and what they have done thus far nine straight wins since losing two two Northern Illinois in their last six games against ranked teams 6 and0 taking care of business and uh they finish out the regular season against USC a rivalry game there take care of B
