that is not fair what the Dodgers are doing oh he is referring to obviously news that broke yesterday Blake Snell is now part of the Dodgers rotation the Lefty and the Dodgers agreed to a 5year $182 million contract according to sources from ESPN uh pending physical but we are counting on him getting through no opt outs $52 million signing bonus and as now becoming the way of the Dodgers deferred money you should not be allowed to cheer this if you’re a Dodger fan why you be because this is ridiculous now this is ridiculous your payroll last year was over a billion you know what now you added the best Lefty in the game what are we doing here there are plenty of other teams that could do this if they wanted to name one they’re all run by do what the Dodgers are doing they are all run by billionaires name one that could do this because if they could they would no no no no no actually they wouldn’t all that’s the thing not all of these billionaires are willing to spend these guys are all some of the richest 1ers on the planet you buy for the most part sports teams to be your play thing and an ego thing like it’s very rare to have a team and you have to have a team that makes money sure that that puts you in a very small group and the Yankees could right the Mets could the Mets could the Cs could four five teams can do this no no I think more teams could because these are all run by super rich people but as you pointed out they care about the money they spend they care about it but that’s not the same thing as not being able to do it it’s very rare this is what you turn the rest of the league into a bunch of window Shoppers whatever if the if the Dodgers want anybody they’re going to get them no but P so let’s start with the great news of the night last night uh which is towards the end of the Lakers game we got an I got an alert from Brian Cohen who was there Blake snell a Dodger I was now I knew they had met and I knew offers had exchanged but I did not realize they were that close to a deal 5 years 182 I did not realize that it was even close yeah so the when it came out I was like what Blake Snell that doesn’t make any sense but actually it’s fantastic for this team they needed a lefty and they said let’s just go get a lefty and they got with the best one that’s out there on the market right now it’s amazing what they’re doing yeah I mean Ireland they are so loaded at I mean obviously they’re going to go to a six-man rotation which they did a lot of last year let me ask you guys some questions as soon as I saw the snow thing does this mean they’re out on flarity I would say I would say likely like okay does it mean they are out on berer I don’t think so I think so I don’t think so I don’t think they’re out on anybody John I think they’re in on Sasaki though I think they’re GNA get Roki Sasaki if you can get Walker ber for a one or twoyear deal at a low aav then they’re going to do it so what I read is 2 years 30 Mutual option after one why would they not do that and by the way they can do that could get more money somewhere else maybe that’s why that’s the reason they wouldn’t do it sure well they they’ll put it out there but he if he wants more money elsewhere he can take it but the fact is that if they give it to them they can also say hey here’s two years 30 and we’ll defer $15 million of it and that’s true so so here again they go they deferred another 50 on the uh Blake Snell cont oh 60 on the Blake Snell contract they don’t even have to pay the PIP for like they’re playing they’re playing chess and everybody else is playing checkers yeah it really is John I don’t think they’re out on anybody they are not never as as long as they can defer money and they are they have okay well let’s let’s do an exercise here all right so otani’s your number one starter if he pitches right yep yamamoto’s to or Snell to what either way uh yeah I mean there some of these are interchangeable they’re all Aces but all three is r Glass now is he expected to be back yes yes all right so that’s four um Kershaw probably you can count on him for 10 starts but and that’s going to be in the middle of summer so let’s move him to the side so we’re right back to four again if they get Sasaki he’s five right Bobby Miller six probably Tony gonin former Allstar probably competes for that along with Bobby Miller along with Justin roesy along with Landon Knack along withen I I they have so many guys they can plug in but you see you see what I’m saying Greg you say they’re not out on anybody other than Sasaki do they even have room for another pitcher yeah they always have room they will make room if they want to get Corbin Burns and Corbin Burns wants to come to La they’ll go get him if they another 200 milon I have to believe the problem the problem is if they do that then I think both ber and flarity are gone well sure if you’re get yes if you get Burns and Snell ber and flarity will be gone and you would prefer to have Burns and Snell but I I don’t think they’re going to get Burns I I think they’re going to be out on Bur Max freed are they out on him now I personally think they’re out on Max freed and he also has some arm stuff that I think is a concern although Andrew Freeman loves guys with arm stuff he does he’s got a lot of them uh I would just think that as long if they’re making an offer they’re not out on anybody just like stto they put an offer out to soda we don’t know what the amount is but it’s there because they want him and if he wants to come here they’ll take him they don’t care about money right now they make hand overfed money and as John I think you pointed out a couple weeks ago this deal for uh Otani has resulted in a ton of revenue for the Dodgers right a ton of Revenue um if I was Roki Sasaki I would want to pitch for the Dodgers of course that is I I would imagine we saw the ratings for games involving Yamamoto and Otani this year you you want to be on the team that is the most popular in your home country I and Sasaki by the way is super cheap uh he is you got a a posting fee and he’s got a minor league deal for just a few million dollars a year until he kicks into arbitration so he’s an unbelievable bargain and I think they’re going to get him so do I because Roki suaki also is like Yamamoto he needs to pitch on Six Days on five days rest and there’s maybe there are other teams that are doing it eventually I think all MLB teams will start going to a six-man rotation because of how all the arm issues that are going on but the Dodgers do it right now so it makes more sense for him to come to the Dodgers where it’s already in place with all their starters here it is no question about it um that that’s the deal and that’s what we have to get uh we have to wrap our heads around so let’s start with this where were you when you found out the Dodgers got Blake Snell yesterday because I feel like the entire baseball world was set you know on its head yesterday yeah I was you know I was just home um you know family in town for the holidays was just kind of wrapping up the evening not really doing much and I I got a text from a friend who is a Giants fan and was just basically expressing his disgust yeah over the Dodgers he all he sent me was the picture of Blake Snell in the Dodger uniform just with with some expletives that I won’t say on the radio and that’s how I found out last night that the whole thing happened that was it yeah uh so I saw it I I have Jeff passon on alerts and I happened to be on my phone and it popped up and then I sent it into our group text and I was just like whoa I couldn’t believe it like I I was because the Dodgers have not really spent on Frontline pitching like that has not been a a thing that Andrew fredman has done but it just goes to show you how special they think this particular guy is I think it’s some of it is obviously Blake Snell has been excellent over the last several years for most of his career I think some of it was being able to pick up a guy who has been one of your Chief tormentors over the last couple of years I look I I didn’t know that there was any real serious talks about the Dodgers bringing him in everything with the Dodgers in pitching has been centered on Roki Sasaki to this point so it’s sort of caught everybody off guard and now I think the Dodgers are basically George leaning into this whole idea of like we can be the new evil empire we can be oh yeah what the Yankees were we’re going to go out we’re going to buy your best player and we’re going to use this to win for a long time uh as they should by the way um because they basically have a new economy with Otani Otani saved them a ton of money right and then he brings in a whole new economy on top of that so you’ve got this incredible um you know amount of money to work with that why not use it especially after what you saw last year yes you ended up winning the World Series uh the margins were very thin particularly in that first series um you know a few things go wrong in that in that Series against the Mets and and it could be a different story the Yankees one we all know it just you know we even talked about it yesterday just kind of what the way it all collapsed for them but uh who cares the Dodgers close the deal but the that it just shows you that you could have been out in the first round potentially and then you won the World Series fairly easily that’s just life in Major League Baseball so you don’t want to give you want to give yourself more room for error and having a guy like that certainly does that and I was I was thinking about it excuse me this morning driving that what the rotation is going to be right because now you’ve got in some order Tyler glass now who’s expected to be back in healthy uh you bring in Blake Snell you’re gonna have shohi pitching you’re gonna have Yamamoto there’s still a chance that Sasaki shows up yeah um you know like who knows like when or if Gavin stone is going to be back next year who is having a great rookie season until he got injured and on the surface it feels like there’s too many stuff starters but one there’s no such thing as too much starting pitching two if this year was any indication about 60% of these guys will be on the injured list at some point and three C Point number one there’s no such thing as too much starting pitching no such thing I mean we we put out a graphic by the way um on ESPN Los Angeles Twitter and Instagram that had basically 10 guys right and that doesn’t even include like River Ryan and Gavin Stone on that particular gra we just didn’t have enough to put up there anymore I mean this the the team has gotten so deep on the pitching side now obviously this means there are there are questions right I mean sure Blake Snell coming in means Walker bu thank you for your service and if that is the last we see of you it was a hell of a way for you to go out in a DOD uniform um you know does Jack flarity come back that seems a little bit up in the air at this point uh so those those are guys that were big contributors this year uh who are likely not going to be back because because you brought Snell in but offensively we know how good this team is and really pitching wise George this is a good team it’s just a question of keeping these guys healthy over the course of 162 games
